I am writing on this forum for the first time. Dr.Rana at Apex Animal Hospital in Langley BC saved my 13 year old cat's life this past April. I have two cats, and my disabled son has a service dog . The oldest of my two remaining cats ( I had 3 till Oct.31, 07) started to have tumours on the inside of his ear. They looked like warts. I originally took him to Atlas on Fraser Street to have them removed in September. He is 13 years old, but he thinks he is 13 months old:) At any rate the owner there did laser surgery on his ear and did tests. They did not get the results back before they did the laser surgery I was told and after the surgery I asked again at his first check up. They finally called in for the results and I was told Phantom had the worse kind of cancer, almost always returns and is deadly. So we took Phantom home and for about a couple months he was fine then the little growths returned. Phantom however was not bothered. They would come and go. then one tumour showed up and it began to grow. I came across a posting in the pet section of craigslist referring to a vet referral listing and on that listing I started researching vets so I could take Phantom in and get a second opinion. I took him to one in Burnaby, but they were not too friendly and I did not get good vibes. They did however confirm that Phantom did indeed have the cancer and that the outcome was not good most likely. He was so healthy otherwise, maybe not as frisky but still a great dal of living left. So I researched again and about the same time I came across another posting praising Dr. Rana at Apex Animal Hospital in Langley. I found their website http://www.apexanimalhospital.com/
and proceeded to read. I called and made an appointment and I was invited by the receptionist to ask Dr. Rana the questions I had. She said he would call me back as he was with a patient at that moment. Well he did call backand he asked that I have Phantom's records faxed to him. After he read them he called again and confirmed that according to the records Phantom had the cancer and it was the worse kind of cancer. IT returns 90% of the time. He said he would have to see the cat to see if it could be removed. A few days later Phantom's tumour began to grow rapidly and I did not want to wait for his appointment 4 days more so I called Apex and spoke to Dr Rana. I live downtown Vancouver but he said he would see Phantom that afternoon. I rushed home after work at 2pm, bundled up my son , his service dog, and Phantom, ( who hates car rides) and rushed out to Langley where the hospital is. He immediately checked Phantom out, and said he would do the laser surgery and I could pick Phantom up at 6pm that same day. So Jared, my son and his dog went to the mall, and waited. At 6 we were back at the hospital and good to his word there was Dr. Rana finished, Phantom was awake and not too drowsy. Dr.Rana brought us back into the back and showed us the tumour he removed. It was the size of a thumb nail area. He gave he some medication for Phantom for infection but not expensive and not several bottles like the first time Phantom had surgery. God Bless Dr. Rana for his kind, gentle, honest and for his talent He saved Phantom's life. Phantom now is cancer free ( I know because before the dog would constantly sniff the tumour area and the other cat would hiss at him). Now the other cat kisses Phantom, Party no longer sniffs him and he is stealing toys, food and playing like a little kitten again:) Dr. Rana is one of the best vets in BC I am sure. If you need a vet go to Apex Animal Hospital, it was worth the drive for me.
