Click to report rating    1/15/13   4     4     4     4   Our Boston Terrier was born with pinched nostrils (stenotic nares) and were recommended to see Dr. Cumberbirch at Amherst. I absolutely love Dr. Cumberbirch - he's very kind and I felt our girl was in good hands. He did a fantastic job on her nose! She went from constantly having difficulty breathing to sniffing everything like a dog should. You would never even know she had surgery. The only issue I have with this clinic in general is that we have never seen Dr. Cumberbirch since then (he works limited hours, partially retired?) and it's always a different vet, none of them quite felt as comforting as Dr. Cumberbirch. I realize in order for a vet office to maintain decent hours they need a lot of staff, including doctors.  RID: 39635

Click to report rating    7/25/12   5     5     4     5   I have been going to Amherst for 16 years with my own dogs as well as my with my foster dogs. I have had excellent service and veterinary care from all of the vets there. I really appreciate the fact that they take do not order unnecessary tests. On one occasion I asked for a thyroid function test on one of my dogs who was not as active as was typical of his breed. The vet took one look at his healthy shiny coat, did a physical exam and said that there was no way that the dog had a thyroid problem and therefore a thyroid function test was not indicated! I appreciated his honesty when I was willing to pay for for the test. I have recommended Amherst to friends who are also very happy with the care that their pets receive.  RID: 36050

Click to report rating    7/2/12   3     4     1     1   My dogs have been going to Amherst veterinary for over 15 years, basically due to location. When one of my dogs got extremely sick i was forced to take him to the Burnaby Hospital because noone was around to monitor the dog on the long weekend with an iv. Thus this led to an outstanding amount of money!!!! Not to mention they had wrongly diagnosed the dog. Needless to say i have moved my pets to a different vet that offer much better hours, and emergency care. Not to mention that when i called in with a sick dog at 9am, i wasnt able to bring him in till 430 that day!  RID: 35375

11/15/10   1     1     1     1   The doctors here are only after a quick buck. After hudndreds of dollars in tests, they came up with the wrong diagnosis, and my poor baby suffered for months before we found a competent vet to help. I would not reccomend this place to anyone!  RID: 20884

Click to report rating    10/13/10   5     5     5     5   I have a 5 yr Rottweiler x Coonhound that is very healthy so he's only been for a check up. I did however lose my 13.5 yr old Shepard cross at the end of May 2010 when she lost her battle with cancer. Dr Wark worked with Bailey the most however she did see all but one of the veterinarians in the clinic and everyone was fantastic. Dr Wark was with us when Bailey was put to rest and I'll never forget the compassion of all of the staff. I'll always recommend Amherst to every pet owner.  RID: 20272

Click to report rating    6/26/10   5     5     5     5   I have taken my pets to Amherst for the past 22 years. Without exception the service and quality of care has been excellent. Dr. Cumberbirch and his staff have advised me on numerous issues and it has always let to a good outcome. When I have had to make the decision about a difficult treatment issue or in the final stages, about ending a beloved pet's life Dr. Cumberbirch and his staff have not only attended to the needs of the animal but those of the owner as well, walking me through the decision as if the animal in question were their own. It has made all the difference and set the standard in my mind for good veterinary care.  RID: 18551

Click to report rating    5/17/09   5     5     5     5   Dr. Grant Cumberbirch and his staff are unquestionably the most kind, caring, knowledgeable and helpful people on the planet. They CARE. They take the time to make sure you are completely informed so you understand and know exactly what will be done and why. I have taken my beloved pets to Amherst for 25 years. I highly recommend Amherst.  RID: 12833

Click to report rating    1/15/09   5     5     5     5   We have been with Amherst for more than 15 years and they have taken extraordinary care of our dogs; all but one of which were/are rescues with multiple physical and psychological issues. Grant Cumberbirch and the rest of the Veterinary Team (doctors, techs and front staff), are unfailingly professional, compassionate, and thorough. It doesn't get better than this for our companion animals, and I can recommend them without reservation.  RID: 11248

Click to report rating    6/14/07   4     5     4     5   We have always adopted our pets. This means dealing with & resolving wide variety of health issues & problems that can afflict older animals. Dr. Cumberbirch has a wonderful overview of current data & respect for how important a family member each animal is. He has an appreciation for all breeds, types and personalities. He is rational about expenses & catering to the family & each individual. We currently have 2 chows & 3 cats. One cat is 22 years old, another has a neurological problem. head, the third cat was so ill when I found her that several vets said she would die. Amherst gave me tips for caring for her and while Angel was very small she is now robust & almost 12 years old. Sarah, a chow, was rescued after being left for dead with a broken jaw. Some vets have been very forthright in their dislike of chows - i can't imagine what terrors a pet feels on a trip to the vets - it would be so much worse if i thought that the Dr. didn't like my dog. I can't praise him enough.  RID: 4568
