Poor compassion for animals unless you have lots of money...Was told to take my animal to the pound and have it put to sleep...PS animal is doing well thanks to a vet whose major concern was not money

These are the best educated and informed vets I have ever known. They all truly love and respect their patients, and their patients humans. I cannot say enough about wonderful they are! It is worth the wait. I will never go anywhere else!!

Assembly-line veterinary services, with overworked stressed out staff and doctors. Good prices on routine care for people who would otherwise not be able to afford vaccinations, antibiotics etc. But I will never trust this hospital for any procedure or critical care. In prep. for having my cat undergo a surgery they weighed her incorrectly (I corrected them and had her re-weighed - they were 3lbs over!!! would they have given her that much anesthetic????) and when I asked to have he reweighed, they acted like *I* was out of line! but they actually were wrong. I had seen 3 different vets on the pre-op visits and evidently they did not take notes nor did they communicate with the surgeon who was supposed to preform the surgery because he seemed surprised as I went over her history. . . I left and took out a CareCredit account and paid $300 extra to have the surgery done at a LVSES. I do not regret my choice!

While the cost of this clinic is very low, there is no value because they don't diagnose things properly and you will then have to go spend more money at a qualified veterinarian. They diagnosed one of my dogs with allergies. He had cancer. After seeing another vet that diagnosed it within an hour, the vet at Shively said the second vet must have had different equipment. He had a microscope! They tried to send my other dog home with a blood clot in her leg that was clearly visible and then their "emergency specialist" rolled his eyes and gave me attitude when I pointed it out. They told my sister her cat had allergies when his heart was failing and filling with fluid. You will wait for hours for an appointment while owners scream at their animals because of the complete disorganized chaos in this place. I once waited 2 hours to find they had misplaced our file so we weren't "in line". Horrible place! If you care about your pets, spend an extra $20 elsewhere!

9pm Sophie breathing deeply, stiff &eyes glazed. 1215AM Dr "Sookie" died. 630pm
Me:Y u point out the +vitals when I said 2u that she was dying?
Dr:I told the lady, only 2ways this could go &she had a strong heartbeat.
Me:This is lady &that isnt what u said. I say "I think she is dying" U say "What?" &I repeat
Dr:U said "Shes dead" & I say "Got a strong heartbeat"
Me: That doesnt make sense. Y would I bring a dead dog the ER? I went to u for help.Y u would say she had a +vitals. She spontaneously lost her bowels isnt that a sign of organs shutting down?
Dr:Only 2ways.Admit &we could try 2help or put to sleep.
Me:we wouldve been there if u had said that, not admit &give CPR which I didnt want.Y did u say 2x "good heartbeat &blinking" when she was dying instead of telling us she may be beyond help?
Dr: U didnt ask.
Me: REALLY? Isnt your duty as a PRO to give us info so we can decide? I asked at what point does it become 2 much &u insisted better 2admit her &do tests.

A once caring & compassionate place for pets & their owners has turned into a nickel & dime hustle that reflects "subsidized healthcare" for animals. The relationship with your vet should be a joint interest in providing care for your animals. Today, the staff of Shively Animal Clinic lost my respect; not only as veterinarians-for undermining my intelligence to care for my pet, but as an amiable establishment for their rude dissension. Denied an OTC dressing for my dog, & scolded about the “seriousness” of applying it, I was pressured after hours to be examined. I refused, explaining it was nothing serious. A cut that needed looking after & was denied a product that I could purchase myself online. “We don’t want to be responsible if the dressing isn’t put on correctly.” You won’t sell me a glorified ace bandage, but you will sell me a product that has a MSDS on file with the federal government-Frontline and HeartGaurd. After their neglect of customer service and over inflating the ser

Kind caring vet, Dr. Joyce, wonderful and compasionate during the loss of our 16 year old poodle. my two baby toys go there as well as my 10 year old mini. They are well recommended by breeders and dog owners all over the county. long wait time but the sign-in and call back feature works well for us. It takes 1/2 hour to drive there but worth the drive in the care given. I have tried other vets but this is best. They explain everything and want to get to the cause of the problem and do not treat symptomatically. Understanding that we do not believe in better living through chemistry; we like a more homeopathic approach with our family members. Local family run facility, has always had best reputation. I have lived in area 35 years and have never heard anything bad about this vet.

The vets are excellent and compassionate. They have cared for 2 of my dogs (one on long term basis) and explain things well and help you make difficult decisions. If your animal is in the hospital the doctor talks with you daily and additionally anytime you call with questions. Will call to check on animal at home if has had surgery or ill. The staff is great and are there 24 hours. They definitely go the extra mile to do everything for your animal. The system of no appointments is at times a pain, but the wait is well worth it for your animal.

I have been with this family of vets for 22 years and I will never go anywhere else. They are the most compassionate, kind, and caring vets I have ever met. They are there for you and your animals 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

My family has been going to Shively since the late 60's and all of them love it. I now take my dogs to this clinic and love it too. Yes the wait is long but the care your pet's get is well worth all of the wait time. I have called around to other vet's offices to compare prices, Shively by far is the best in town. I have choose Shively to care for my pets now for 3 years.

For your routine care, this vet has a wait but worth every second. In a true emergency, your animal is taken right back. My sons dog was in the middle of a major seizure, which he had never had, he was taken right back and assessed and put on an iv to calm the seizure. The people were great, the nurse even gave my son her number to call anytime and she would check on his dog. He was hospitalized for 2 days, ivs, blood work, ekg, medicine, etc and it was under $100.This is only one story of their excellent care they give to the animals thatcome to the facility. I drive extra to get here and am willing to wait for the care my animals receive.

I took my pup to this vet several times due to a knee injury, NO COMMUNICATION awful if any, rude nurses. DISORGANIZATION !!!! After waiting 4 1/2 hours with my injured puppy I finally went back to the desk to ask if we would be seen, they lost all of her information and charts and forgot to tell me nearly 5 hours later. DO NOT GO THERE. may be Cheap but very disorganized. beore this incident my pup had surgery for her knee, and i was told she needed to be boarded there for two weeks afterwards to be monitored. I went to visit on the 9th day ( earliest they would let me) She had lost at least 20 pounds, wasnt eating and had terrible eye infections, and was soaked in sweat, old dog food. I would not reccommend shivley at all, if anything stay away unless its routine procedures. DO NOT GO THERE FOR SPECIALTIES !!!!

Wonderful docs, great staff, prices that a family with 4 cats, 2 lizards and a dog can afford!!! The wait is long, but really, when the docs are as great as these who cares? I am so glad that my friend refered me to this clinic. They really do go above and beyond caring for your babies.
