Click to report rating    6/12/15 We took our very sick cockatiel to this vet a year ago. The vet had some ideas but seemed to think it was minor. When she didn't get better after two visits, we tried to take her in right away and they couldn't fit her in. We decided to take her to the Avian and Exotic Pet Clinic and they were able to fit her in right away. I tried to obtain our birds records from Avenida and they refused. Said it would cost me and it would take a few days. I offered to come in and copy the file myself, or take pictures and they refused. This made it very difficult for the next vet to continue her care. In the end, we found out she had a cancerous mass in her stomach and she passed away. Avenida clinic never called to check up on her but a year later I continue to receive emails looking for a review, reminding me to book her next check up and postcards in the mail. I have contacted them 3 times and told them that she passed away yet we continue to be reminded of her death with their stupidity. RID: 57385
Click to report rating    12/2/14 The staff was friendly. The vet did not seem to be clear on the feeding of giant breed rabbits. I was told that I should have stopped feeding alfalfa hay at 3 months when a giant rabbit should be on alfalfa until 6 months at the least. She wanted me to feed her vegetables every day as well (from weaning!) and those shouldn't be given until 6 months either as they cause all sorts of tummy issues. I had her treated for mites in her ear and they scraped all of the scabbing off and dosed her with kitten revolution which is fine and they gave her pain medication and sent us home. The problem being that she has mites again (a month later) and I find out today that revolution needs to be applied once a month for at least THREE DOSES to be effective and to catch the mites in each life stage. After reading the horror reviews on here and the fact that I need to go back to another vet now to have the dosage re-applied, I'm upset that I even took her there in the first place. RID: 54851
Click to report rating    10/12/14 My regular Vet does not treat hamsters so I was recommended to go to the Avenida clinic. What a mistake!! Dr Phillips was very rough with my hamster doing a physical exam and after finding nothing specifically wrong with her she said we could try some Metacam and Immune boost to help her regain some strength and to help with some possible issues with her lethargy if this had anything relating to nerves. My hamster has been eating very little lately so was weak and when she did eat she did so very slowly. The Tech came in and gave her 2 syringes of medicine orally VERY quickly. I watched my hamster struggle trying to get the liquid down. The Tech then tried to push a bunch of liquid food into her mouth very quickly again. My hamster tried to push this away but she kept on pushing this into her mouth forcing her. This should have been done MUCH slower. My hamster then died right in front of me. Too much liquid, too fast and for lack of better words she drowned. NEVER GO HERE. RID: 54029

Click to report rating    4/22/14 I took my bunny in today for an appointment and the staff were really nice, I was 20 minutes late and they didn't mind (I got lost). In the appointment my bunny but the doctor when she was checking his teeth and she didn't freak out, she remained calm and assured me that it was fine, he was just frightened. They were supportive of the fact that I don't have a lot of money on me and told me to just come back and grab the hairball treatment whenever I could, they didn't pressure me into buying a ton of different things. They also showed me how to cut my bunnies nails free of charge! I'm bringing him back her for sure :) they are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. They even gave me different diet advice for him. The check up was $85 and the neutering will be $260 with a cone, pain meds, nail treatment and coat treatment. I would prefer cheaper, but they are really good at what they do. If it keeps my baby healthy I'm okay with dishing out a few extra dollars. RID: 51158
Click to report rating    4/3/14 When we got parrots we took them to Dr Phillips. She was not knowledgeable about the breed (she didn't know if it was a male or female Eclectus). She thought there was something wrong with him because he never freaked out when getting his nails done. Then we took our African Grey there for routine wing clip and nail trim. 10 minutes later she says my bird is in distress please come to the back. My bird was in an oxygen tank, hyperventilating. There were two young (late teens)girls standing there - these were the "vet techs" who were trimming his nails. Well I guess they handled him poorly and he freaked out. Anyway as I was talking to her in the office, they came in to say my bird had died. Boom - 15 minutes after I walked in. Then she tried to tell me that my bird must have been sick, and I should have told her, otherwise the would not have started any procedures at all. That was the last time I was ever there, and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER would I go back for any reason. RID: 50846
12/18/13 I recently moved to the area and was looking for a vet clinic close to home. My dog had been a long-time patient at two great clinics in his 11 years and so I didn't have any reason not to trust a new vet. While I think the care he received was good - I was SHOCKED when the receptionist told me the cost of this routine visit. I have never been charged this much for routine tests (my dog has these tests done every 3 months and the bill was triple what it was at his previous vet's office). I will be returning to the old vet and making the trip across town. I don't feel that the care my dog received here is any better than it was previously and for the amount I paid, I would expect EXCEPTIONAL care and service. The staff and vet were friendly, but I felt were deceptive in adding costs - they cleaned my dog's ears without asking me and charged me $40 for it. I would have said no thanks if they had asked first. For this reason, they get a 2/5. RID: 48848
Click to report rating    5/10/13 The vet there is very rude. She charges for each thing that is wrong with your pet. I asked her to take a look at my cats eye while I was at an appointment, and she told me I had to make another appointment and it would be $90 to look at his eye, on top of what I was already paying for the current appointment. All I wanted to know is if something was wrong, and I would have made another appointment if there was. She is just a very greedy vet. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take their pets there. She also was trying to tell me I should be using her food, and that every other cat food out there is no good, which most pet owners know is very untrue, and that again, she is just a greedy person, not a caring compassionate vet that you want for your animals.  5/1/13 Have used this vet for over 19 years. In the beginning - I felt Dr. Phillips was very good - but over time and many animals later I find that she's getting waaaayy too expensive and charges for anything and everything. Also pushes "diet" food all the time and constantly tells us that our animals are overweight when I know for a fact they are not. She does NOT like to be challenged at all! Gets quite defensive. Can be overbearing and pushy as well as condescending. When we took our animals to another vet we were never told that our animals were "overweight". I think unless they're skin and bones she would then consider that to be "healthy". We are seriously considering moving to another vet that doesn't push so many things on us just for more money. I don't doubt that she has expertise in her field and is a good surgeon - but I doubt that her heart is in it for the animals any more - I think she's in it to plump up her retirement fund now. Click to report rating    1/21/13 Me and my sister brought 2 of our parrots there for a check up a couple months ago and I will never step foot in that place again, Dr. Phillips treated us like we were idiots and shouldn't own birds meanwhile she couldn't give me the species of parrot she was treating in the back while after a brief description I easily told her what it was. When examining the birds she was very rough with them completely freaking them out, my amazon was crying the entire time and she blatantly lied later on when my mother called to confront her on this issue. She cut off my amazons identification band without my consent as well as clipping her nails, she charges me 75$ extra for doing it as well, what was supposed to be a $200 vet bill just for a check up ended up being over $300. Never trust this "vet" with any of your pets, after the appointment was finished before she let us go she took our birds into the back and taped them into boxes that were way to small. Never go here, I know I won't. RID: 39807
Click to report rating    11/20/12 Went there to get my beardie looked at,leaving with a 500+ bill. When trying to get the records faxed to my regular vet, they refused to send records without getting 38 dollars first! Although I recommended many clients from the clinic I work at now, I will not be sending any more business towards them. I believe they're in it for the money, not the animals. RID: 38601
Click to report rating    6/5/12 We would highly recommend this pet clinic dr.philips is very knowledgable and kind she seemed to always be available when needed. We were very pleased with our experience with this pet clinic and soon became close with all the staff. They want the best for the animals and will do everything in their power to help! RID: 34787
Click to report rating    5/22/12 I have been taking all of my pets to Dr. Phillips for years. She is professional and friendly, though sometimes her "bedside manner" may be a bit gruff (which I have come to expect of many human and animal doctors). The staff is friendly and they take the time to be thorough. She is also a very good surgeon and extremely knowledgable when it comes to treating exotic pets. My ONLY complaint would be that due to it being a one-vet clinic, sometimes it can be hard to get an appointment on short notice or in an emergency. But I have always been happy with the quality of care my pets have received. RID: 34397
Click to report rating    12/27/11 Dr. Philips is a pushy, rude vet. Only in it for the $$$$ she makes sure you are paying for something extra before you get out the door. Her social skills suck, time for her realize who pays her bills. Will never go back and will be sure to tell everyone I know never to go here. She examined my dog for 3 minutes and then blew us off because I questioned her... RID: 30091
Click to report rating    8/15/11 They tortured my cat to stress her out so that they could charge us for a shot and x-ray. Horrible people out to abuse your animals for profit. Do not go here! RID: 26928
