I used to work for a great vet in SoCal for 12 yrs. I give every new vet the chance to hang themselves. I took my older dog in for a rabies vac, & the young woman vet found the lipoma (a non-malignant fatty tumor). I knew it was there & it hadn't changed in 5 yrs. The vet said she should check it. She stuck a needle in it and aspirated some fluid, came back & said it was infected & needed an antibiotic. $100+ dollars later, my dog had a rabies vac and a bottle of unneeded pills that I never even gave her. I had my records transferred to another vet. Next vet checked it, asked if it had grown at all, I said 'no', and he said, "Then we won't worry about it". When she died at 13, the lipoma was the same size/shape/consistency as it was when I found it. BTW, the inadvisability of medicating w/antibiotics unnecessarily was already in the news. But they did it anyway. And they did build a nice, new clinic, didn't they?
