Click to report rating    8/12/17 My dachshund hurt his back, he barely walks and when he does try to walk his body is curved and he stumbles and crosses his back legs. He is clearly in pain and miserable, he only lays down... He doesn't eat or drink. I brought him to lsu after my vet took x-rays and saw he has 3 slipped discs in his back and recommended it. We saw Dr Cox who told us she doesn't know why he is there bc "he can walk" and we need to go back (pay the $100 exam fee again) to see a different doctor. She didn't even bother to look at the x-rays I brought before giving me her "opinion". Complete lack of care and respect, only wants money... Do not care for animals! RID: 64412
Click to report rating    9/20/15 On Dec. 19, 2014, my weim Hotstuff underwent surgery to remove his diseased eye. A board certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist named Dr. Filipe Espinheira performed the surgery at LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital and removed Hotstuff's only good eye by mistake, instead of his diseased eye, even though the correct eye to be removed was the only eye prepped/shaved. My nearly deaf 13 year old baby was left instantly blind. The diseased eye is actually opaque, while the healthy eye looks like a regular eye, but the wrong eye was still removed. The surgeon who did the surgery was not required to have a license to work at the LSU Vet Teaching Hospital so I could not file a complaint against his license since he didn't have one. Also, the LSU Vet Teaching Hospital did not require that a surgical checklist be used for their surgeries. A checklist could have prevented the mistake on my dog. A checklist is used is human hospitals all over the world and also some vet hospitals, just not them. RID: 58472
Click to report rating    12/3/13 I took my dog to LSU for a herniated dis at c 6,7. Her surgery went great. The doctors where great. She went to ICU and her care was neglect. She went 12 hrs. with no vital signs taken the night after her surgery. When they did check her vital signs, her heart rate was 170,temp 105, and respirations rapid and shallow. She died the next day. She walked into the hospital and came home in ashes. The doctors can be the best but the staff in ICU did not monitor my dog. My dog trusted me to take care of her and I trusted LSU. $4,700 and a dead dog. I miss her more than words can say. Paula RID: 48582

4/2/12 My dog had osteosarcoma with metastasis to the lung, along with prostate cancer, anal sac cancer, and a previously undiagnosed, dangerous heart arrhythmia. The medical care he received at LSU was excellent. Every vet we consulted with was professional, competent, & compassionate. We were clearly informed re: my dog's diagnosis, treatment protocol, and prognosis. We knew going in that there would be no cure, but we worked with his doctors to extend his life as long as he enjoyed a good quality of life. He had his leg amputated, underwent injectable chemo, and oral chemo. He tolerated all the recommended treatments with few side effects. Due to the terrific work of the veterinarians at LSU, our beloved dog lived several months past our expectations. The expert care provided by his doctors allowed us to spend 10 extra months with him. It is expensive, but the medical staff worked with us to hold down costs. I have nothing but respect for the medical care provided to our beloved dog. RID: 33304
Click to report rating    3/31/12 I brought my dog there after he had been bitten on his ear by another dog. It was a bad bite and probably needed stitches. They decided all they needed to do was clean the ear and gave me some antibiotics which cost me $186.00. It's been about a week and now the ear looks more inflamed and is bleeding again. I am very disatisfied now that I am having to bring my dog back to the vet to get treated again. Definitely will not ever be going there again. I basically spent my money on them cleaning his ear. I hope no one has the same experience I had. RID: 33268
Click to report rating    3/13/12 Experienced exotic pet vets are really hard to find. When I brought in my leopard gecko after months of trouble (not shedding properly or eating normally) since I moved locations I brought him in there. He had lost a couple toes, had some problems with his eyes, and had lost a lot of weight. The Dr.s I saw, Nevarez and Brandao were great. They spent a lot of time talking with me about housing issues and after they treated Marcos I noticed a drastic difference in his health. Very pleased, although be prepared to spend a long time there, but they are teaching so it should be expected. RID: 32875
12/15/11 My 8 year old cat  was diagnosed with Hepatic Lipodosis about a month before I brought her to LSU Vet School. This is a liver disease where the cat basically starves itself. Very stressful for the owners. I had to force feed her with a syringe for about a month. My regular vet referred me to LSU for an ultrasound. 2 days later she was dead. She never left the clinic. Needless to say I am ABSOLUTELY HEARTBROKEN over what happened. To top it all off I was told by an intern Dr. Fox that it would cost about $1500 for the ultrasound and surgery (but could be more If she had to stay for 3 weeks after surgery for feeding and therapy). So I paid the $1500 deposit up front.  This is where it gets cold. Two days ago (2 weeks later) I get a nice letter in the mail saying how sorry they are that my cat died and even included a sculpture of my cat's paw. The next day I get a bill for an additional $2300!Did I mention my cat died after a 3 day stay. That is just cold hearted. RID: 29875
Click to report rating    9/15/10 My experience with LSU is with Dr. Tracy Geiger. She is an Oncologist there. She was very unprofessional, lacked important knowledge, gave me medication that could cause an adverse reaction with his other medications, overchaged me, lost the records I gave her from another clinic and oversedated my dog when they took more unnecessary x-rays. I took my dog to Texas for treatment after this experience because he needed radiation and LSU is the only facility in Louisiana that has a radiation machine. AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE, THERE IS NO WAY I WAS ALLOWING HER TO TREAT MY DOG. If you live in Louisiana and your dog is diagnosed with cancer, I urge you to seek treatment elsewhere. RID: 19740
