This place is HORRIBLE! I brought my cat because of a lump I found on his neck. They handled him very roughly, even after being told he had a severe heart murmur and needed to be kept calm. They ended up telling me that it was most likely cancer, but due to the heart murmur they couldn't do many tests. They wanted me to put him to sleep on the spot and told me I was being abusive because I wanted to keep him alive till he was ready to go. They told me I wasn't thinking about my pet and that I was letting him suffer in pain for my own selfish needs. I was so hysterical I had to have my grandmother come and get me after they talked to me. My cat Tom lived another 6 months before he started to decline in health due to his cancer and thats when I put him to sleep. NEVER go here, they just wanted money and could care less about your pets or your well being!

We have had 4 greyhounds as pets since 2003, and Dr. Bazar has cared for all of them. He is always very kind, and when one of ours developed bone cancer, he couldn't have been more helpful and compassionate. Two weeks later, our other dog developed an abscess in her eye. Dr.B took us to another room so that we would not have to be in the one where we had euthanized our dog 2 weeks earlier. He has referred us twice to specialists who were awesome. The reason I give a 4 on facilities is that they are a small, basic hospital and do not have a lot of the high tech things. For emergencies I go to Ocean State. The facilities are clean, and the staff has always been friendly and kind, both to me and to my animals. :-)

I have not nor will I ever take my cats here again. My one and only visit was to have both of my cats neutered. The place was a bit scary and the employees were cold and unwelcoming. They called our name and basically took the cat carrier out of my hands and told me to come back for them at X time. When I returned to pick up my cats, one of the workers emerged from the back with one of my cats in the carrier, they proceeded to tell me I was "all set". I asked where my other cat was, they were a bit shocked, the guy went to the back once again and returned with my other cat, sans carrier. Aside from that, I honestly do not think they performed the procedure correctly. I would bet money that nobody's neutered cats are more sexually frustrated than mine. I'm being serious when I say that.

I went to Hoffman Animal Hospital to have my dog neutered. I had a certificate from Petco for a low cost procedure, $70 fo my male dog. The certifcate clearly stated that presurgical exams were inclued in the cost and that befor any proceudre was done, anny addition costs would be discussed. When I brought him in, they said that my pup needed a second kennel cough vaccination, for $14. This didn't seen unreasonable. When I picked my dog up, they told me the total was $105. &0 for the neuter, 14 for the vaccination, and 20 for the exam. They threw away my paper that said it was included and would not give me my dog until I paid this additional fee. The guy at the desk was completely unreasonable. Also my dog was sent home with absolutely no medication, pain or antibiotic, and no surgical collar (Add that $20 to the cost above). This vet does not care about what is in writing, and will cost you way more than the cost that they tell you upfront.
DO NOT GO TO THIS VET

This Vet is the worst I've ever seen. The woman doctor is rude. She puts on a fake smile and is only in it for the money. She talks to you like you're stupid with a smile on her face. She told one of the techs that was helping her that foreign people are stupid she didn't realize I understood english. She told one of the staff that spanish people are poor and they bring in dirty dogs. I would NOT recommend this Vet to anyone.

I am so surprized to read these ratings that are poor. I have a pit puppy and I love the male dr and the staff. They have been so nice to me and Milan. I rate them well and very caring.

my bassett hound was brought there by rescue after being struck by a hit and run driver. That stupid bi*ch was in the other room doing a exam on a perfectly healthy cat while my dog lie there and died from internal bleeding. I was so upset it hurt so much to see rex die and no body help him she should loose her license. She dont care for the animals all she wants is the money. And after that she had know remorse all she could say was well there was nothing i could do mind you she had not even looked at him nothing she waited till he was dead b4 she came in please dont let anything happen to your animal bring them to oakland animal hospital in cranston ive been there ever since with my other animals. iwish i had gone there first maybe my rex would still be alive.

I agree that they are too rough with their clientelle. I worked as an assistant for another vet and one pet owner switched to us and her poor dog was terrified at first. He released his anal glands, peed...it was sad. I sat on the floor with the little guy, petted him, spoke softly and he slowly started to calm down. The owner was so incredibly grateful for our care and compassion that the next day she sent us a cookie gram with 100 cookies. She told us how rough Hoffman's staff is and how if a pet was "a problem" they would just quickly care for what they owner wanted (usually in back) and sent the pet off, totally a mess and traumatized. Oh, and this is one of the vets that, still, performs ear cropping. Unfortunately it is shoddy, at best, and our hospital had many of their clients come in with open stitching, oozing and infected incisions and just a bad cropping job. We used to call these a "Hoffman Hack".

I would never bring my dog within a mile of this vet again. I had to take her there for a paw injury about a year ago, and to say that she was treated roughly is being generous. She was so traumatized by this visit that she had to be sedated when she went back to her own vet for follow up care...this vet has no compassion for animals.

I have been here once and the doctor gave some heavy shots to my puppy for a simple flu without really examing him. I had to pay more than $100 just for this. I wouldnt recommend this vet.

I love Hoffman Animal Hospital on Broad St in Providence. I have taken both of my kittens there since i first adopted them and they are wonderful. The staff is friendly and super helpful and the place is always clean. The prices are also great, especially being a student it makes it much more affordable for the average person
