This hospital forces you to pay upfront and tells you what your cost is going to be while paying upfront only to tell you something else (bigger payment for something other than they told you at time asking for upfront payment). What rubbed me the wrong way is that I put the scheduled time in my phone calendar as I LIVE by my calendar, only to receive a call day of tell me my appointment was scheduled for a different time than what was arranged! Get all appointments emailed for confirmation, AND make sure to get the cost of any fees associated with your visit to avoid them telling you something different when you go there. Oh and by the way They want $450 usd just to fill out the health certificate, which gets electronically sent and the only fee associated with that is the FedEx return fee of the document. So if you are looking for travel purposes look for another accredited location there are a couple. They seem to want to milk you just because you are traveling! RID: 70942
Click to report rating    11/17/23   4     5     5     2   This review is based on my over 15 yrs as a customer (2-dogs, 5-cats) with Penfield Veterinary Hospital (PVH ) through thousands of dollars in surgeries, euthanasia and urgent health care. PVH has provided very good professional service, however, since becoming a Thrive-owned vet practice their business integrity has become very bad. Pricing has gone up a lot. Extra service fees appear on bills. (like a "Clinical support fee" on top of the doctor visit fee). PVH pushes for more extensive and costly blood work and then follows-on with more diagnostics. Medicine prices are astronomical. There have been no customer considerations whatsoever. (like waiving a clinical support fee when multiple pets are brought in together). The trust I had in my PVH “vet” is no longer there. If my pets need surgery or hospitalization, I am convinced that “fees” will inflate beyond the healthcare need. Pure greed! RID: 70918
Click to report rating    10/28/17   5     5     5     4   Dr. Todd Braaton is excellent, compassionate, caring and cost conscious. He will ask you if the bill is within your budget and ask yo how far you can afford. He does not do unnecessary treatments or drive up your expenses. He spends time with you and talks to you about what is going on with your pet and he is gentle with your pet. Very intelligent and is very knowledgeable without ordering a lot of tests. RID: 64949
Click to report rating    6/30/08   3     3     3     3   We stopped going to this vet for a couple reasons. One, the head veterinarian had the nerve to tell us our dog was not a purebread labrador retriever (had the papers to prove it). The same vet put my dog under to look for something in her nose when what I was describing was something well-known as reverse sneezing. They could have saved us a ton of money and my dog a lot of discomfort. Thirdly, when we brought in our brand new puppy for her first visit, he instructed us to feed her as much as she could eat in 15 minutes. Apparently, he's never seen a lab eat. RID: 9095

Click to report rating    1/15/07   1     1     1     1   I used to work for PVH from 1998-2000. Dogs are stuffed into kennels too small for them and are not exercised at all when boarded. The day the owners pick up they get a bath and are greeted with a clean dog (who is obviously excited to be going home due to the horrific conditions they are kept in) and a smiling kennel person (why would they tell you the truth?) I don't know if it's still like this but it was when I worked there and it's horrifying. Never board your pet at a hospital- look for credible boarding places in the area and make sure they have the facilities to EXERCISE your pet, not just throw them in a small filthy cage. RID: 2000
Click to report rating    12/30/06   5     4     5     5   This veterinarian office is excellent. Their prices are very reasonable and competitive in the area. You get the feeling that the staff genuinely cares for your pet. The facilities are a little small, but they make up for it with their big hearts. RID: 1642
Click to report rating    12/27/06   5     4     4     4   A warm, caring facility with a great staff, indcluding the front desk help, kennel staff, technicians, and doctors! RID: 1509
