6/30/18   5     5     5     5   I brought in Foxy yesterday for an ear check as she’d been scratching her left ear. We had a 9:30 AM appointment and were taken back and seen promptly. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and obviously care for their patients, our pets! Dr. Doug and Dr. Pam have a new associate, Dr. Magan, who took care of Foxy and was wonderful! Turned out Foxy had an ear infection and also suffering from allergies. Received ear drops and a 4 week allergy shot and Saturday morning can already tell a dramatic difference. Foxy hasn’t scratched at all this morning. And everything was explained along the way including cost so there were no surprises. The office was recently remodeled and updated and is first rate and very clean and tidy! I have been taking my four legged family members here for 21 years and would never take them anywhere else! And this is a great place to adopt also. My cat Blue was adopted from here. RID: 66407

6/5/18   1     1     1     1   The vet (Pernikoff) is a nice person. That is the ONLY positive thing I can state about this clinic unfortunately. I brought my animal to them in an emergency situation, and it required hospitalization. I was told I would receive daily updates on their condition -- I did not receive an update until two days later, when I was told that it had passed away. When I asked for a necropsy service to be performed (on that animal, and another that had passed from the same thing), I was told it would be done the next day. I then called in for DAYS in a row, asking for an update. I have yet to receive any call back from this vet office in further regard to ANY of my animals or necropsy. I have never encountered such neglectful service, and I regret bringing my animals to these people. If they can't pick up a phone or answer basic questions regarding what happened, I have my doubts that my animal was cared for properly in her emergency state, and that they were very possibly liable for her death. Click to report rating    3/28/18   5     5     5     5   Dr. Doug is so genuine and caring not only for the pets that he treats but for the humans who love them. He is excellent at what he does! Thank you Dr. Doug for taking such good care of my sweet Scootsey (ferret)! RID: 65842
Click to report rating    11/14/16   1     1     1     1   Ineptness by Dr. P and his staff. Clinic is never clean. Staff has no professionalism and doesn't do what they say they will do. Too many mistakes kept happening but I hung in there hoping it would improve....never did. Finally had to find another vet/clinic. RID: 62002

10/4/11   5     5     5     5   AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, DR. DOUG & TEAM, R FERRET SAVING GURU'S & I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! THIS TEAM HAS BEEN TREATING/SAVING MY FERRETS 4 A DECADE NOW...LUCKY, MY 1ST FERRET, LIVED AN XTRA 2 YRS THANKS TO DR. DOUG SUCCESSFULLY REMOVING MANY TUMORS...IT WAS A RISKY SURGERY THAT MOST VETS WOULDN'T ATTEMPT BUT DR. DOUG DID! 11 DAYS AGO I RUSHED DEBO, MY 5½ YR OLD FERRET N2 DR. DOUG'S OFFICE, AFTER THOROUGH TESTING IT WAS NECESSARY 2 OPERATE ON THE LIL GUY, THAT SAID, DEBO HAD HIS SPLEEN REMOVED & SURGERY WAS A SUCCESS! W/IN A FEW DAYS OF SURGERY DEBO WAS BEGINNING 2 EXPLORE AGAIN, AFTER SEVERAL DAYS HE WAS DOING THE WEASEL DANCE & YESTERDAY HE HAD HIS STITCHES REMOVED…LAST NIGHT HE WAS SO FULL OF ENERGY THAT I GOT OUT HIS HARNESS LEASH 2 SEE HOW HE’D REACT & SURE ENOUGH WE WENT ON A WALK DOWN THE CONDO HALLWAY, SOMETHING I WAS GR8FUL 2C! AS I SAID, DR. DOUG & TEAM R FERRET SAVING GURU’S; I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS VET FOR ANY PET. I WILL NOW & 4EVER B A LOYAL CLIENT…THANKS AGAIN DR. DOUG! RID: 28066
Click to report rating    1/24/11   5     5     5     5   Dr. Doug has provided excellant care to my animal family members for over 10 years. I would trust my dogs to no other veterinarian, after all the care and compassion is what it is all about. RID: 22318
Click to report rating    10/6/10   3     5     5     5   I am a reptile breeder, and have three dogs. I grew up a farm where my family had chickens, ducks, etc. I was told anywhere else for exotic animals wasn't going to work. Dr. Doug took us in right away for everything from our Rats, to our geckos, to dogs. I even trust him to put my dog to sleep when he couldn't walk anymore and couldn't see. He out did himself having my dog last until 18, and Dr. Tim is pretty cool himself. They always do non profit organizations. I perfer giving my money to him, rather than another vet who just takes dogs and cats, no offense to dog and cat lovers. RID: 20094

3/11/09   5     5     5     5   Dr. Doug and Dr. Pam have treated my cat and two dogs for nearly eight years. My cat, in particular, has had reoccuring issues with his urinary tract health and there have been NUMEROUS occasions where Dr. Doug has met me (once in his sock feet even) after hours to tend to my pet. My cat is on special food and the vet often closes before I can get there. Dr. Doug has often left a bag outside for me and said, "Just pay the next time you come in." When my cat had to have surgery, our dog was also diagnosed with cancer and both were being treated by Dr. Doug; we lost our dog after one chemo session Dr. Doug and his staff felt so sorry for us and the double expense of both our pets having surgery that they signficantly reduced the bill. They have been VERY generous with love, care and consideration of our animals and us. I moved out of proximity of them and still drive the extra distance as I refuse to go anywhere else. RID: 12045
Click to report rating    2/23/09   5     5     5     5   Dr. Pernikoff is an absolutely brilliant vet, and he has been working with our pets for more than 10 years. I wouldn't think of recommending anyone other than him. He saved our cats life a few years ago, and could not have done a more perfect procedure on her. A few of the comments below are absurd. I can personally say that, after working with Dr. Pernikoff for so long, they aren't at all reflective of what it's like having him as our vet. Doug, I would like to personally thank you for everything that you have done for us. We are, and have always been, very pleased working with you and your staff. Keep up the great work! RID: 11774
Click to report rating    1/23/09   1     3     1     1   See Dr. Sullivan instead. He is caring and will take the time to talk to you. Dr. Doug refuses to come to the phone and is only interested in adding to your bill. The front desk staff is also very rude and unhelpful. RID: 11341
Click to report rating    12/20/08   4     4     2     2   I have not used this clinic for about 5 years, but used them extensively for quite a while. Dr. P is very talented but as someone else mentioned over confident. He often seemed very too preoccupied to actually get the benefits of his talent for my pets. I was foolish enough to keep using him after my ferret died b/c of a completey irresponsible, rookie mistake that shouldn't have been made (verified by another vet). I was charged as usual for this surgery. After my other ferret was injured during a different surgery (I was also charged for the surgery required to repair that injury) I had had enough. It was a tough call b/c in some instances I felt like he was best for our pets, but when it came down to these major, major issues it was obvious we had to leave. I felt guilty as we had come to know him well over the years. Reading these posts it sounds like the problems we had back then have just gotten worse. Please use caution here.We have been a million times better off leaving. RID: 10958
Click to report rating    10/11/08   4     2     1     1   about 2 months ago my pet was sick and I went in to see Dr. Doug with an appointment maid days before. When I got there I was told that Doug left and and they kept trying to call him and it took forever to get ahold of him . When the girl at the desk finally got ahold of him he told them to have me leave my pet there and he would look at him later that day. I did and had to keep calling everyday and no one would tell me anything besides that the Doctor would call me back. I found out almost a week later that doug neglected to ever look at my pet because he was never in the office and they passed it onto another guy there to look at after a week even though i requested Doug since a friend reccomended him. The doctor i finally talked to was very nice and was able to send my pet home the next day on medicine. I felt bad for the girl that had to keep calling me back about my lizard, I got angry with her and now I realize it was Dr. Doug being a bad doctor and not her. See the other doctor. RID: 10277
Click to report rating    9/6/08   5     5     5     5   Dr.Pernikoff is amazing he is great with every type of animal and loves people. He does a great job of taking care of the animals the whole time they are at the office and really cares about each one RID: 9920
Click to report rating    8/18/08   5     5     5     4   Dr. Doug and his staff have amazed me by their graciousness and ability to fit me in for an appointment any time I needed one. I am a PreK-5 science teacher with a laboratory full of animals. Dr. Doug, Dr. Tim and Dr. Pam have all either seen or operated on most of the pets I have at school. They have also treated my two Golden Labs, Jack and Buddy for the past three years. There was one time when Jack was unable to get up and we thought his hip had given out on him. Dr. Pam observed Jack for a few days and correctly diagnosed Jack's problem as having to do with a severe ear infection that influenced his sense of equilibrium. Dr. Doug and Dr. Tim are now treating Jack for cancer. I have comple confidence in the Clarkson-Wilson staff and appreciate all that they do for the animals in their care. RID: 9690
Click to report rating    8/15/08   1     1     1     1   When we moved to Chesterfield, we tried Dr Pernikoff for our dogs and cats and were totally unsastisfied with the care they received, or rather did NOT receive and had to rapidly search for another clinic. After years of caring for dogs and cats I felt that I had a deeper knowledge and better diagnostics than this vet. Also, I was shocked by the rough/uncaring treatment of some animals who had been left at this clinic by their owners. While this vet was friendly, witty and personable with the owners, I got the feeling that he did not care much about the animals and was totally unreachable during an afternoon emergency. RID: 9677
Click to report rating    7/29/08   2     1     1     1   My rabbit had a hair ball in his stomach, so I took him in for care. The vet put him in a cage in the back. I would call daily for a report and ask to speak with the vet and Doug was never avalibale. finally after four days I came and got my rabbit and had a outragous bill of over $300 dollars for what? Room and board fees!!! I would recommend another vet clinic. RID: 9494
Click to report rating    6/19/08   5     5     5     4   We have used the Clarkson Wilson Center numerous times for our two dogs and three cats over the past several years. Drs. Doug, Pam and Tim have always been first rate in treating the animals and saved our cat from dying last year. They have always be available for emergencies. Prices may be slightly high compared to other vets but the service and treatment has always been great. RID: 8961
Click to report rating    4/14/08   1     1     1     1   I took my poor golden retriever to Dr. Pernikoff because she was breathing heavy and gaining weight. They automatically put her on thryoid medicine. They would have me bring her in constanstly for rechecks and I did some research on the internet and found out they weren't doing the tests right. After tons of procedures and a huge amount of money being spent I switched vets and found out she did not need the thryoid medicine. Dr. Doug was hardly in the office and didn't even know what was going on when I told him. He just commented, "Oh Well, I guess you do need to see someone else". RID: 8070
Click to report rating    4/8/08   5     5     5     5   thanks for helping me awhile back with my leopard gecko, amy. she needed surgery and you did it for me. she didn't survive, but you still did it. from daniel RID: 7973
Click to report rating    3/25/08   4     5     3     1   I was forced to use Dr. Doug after my Short-tailed opossum went ill. I was happy to have someone who knew my pet but upon reading other reviews, I'm noticing a trend. I was asked to leave my pet overnight, even though I felt as though he was going to die soon. I informed them that I only wanted to treat if they thought it would prolong his life significantly. I then had to call day after day and never got any news about if he was improving or if they were going to treat or not. Finally I just couldn't stand it and told them I was taking him home. My bill was for 18 $24 nebulizer treatments, after I had already asked to be informed before treatment began. I only actually spoke to Dr. Doug on my first day, he did not send my pet home, or even discuss his health with me after we left. My pet ended up dieing on his own comfortable at home within weeks of his visit, thus I'm fairly certain the treatments were of no use. RID: 7822
Click to report rating    11/25/07   5     5     5     5   i have many animals and dr pernikoff has seen all of them and treated them all and they all have recovered perfectly. On Christmas eve, he performed surgery on my little rat who had to have her tail removed due to a garland mishap. the fact that he would drive up to his clinic in the middle of the night to perform surgery on my little rat was amazing and has inspired me to become a vet also. i hope to one day be as talented and as good of a vet as he is. Thanks to Dr Doug and his wonderful staff, all 10 of my animals are healthy and happy. Thanks Dr Doug! RID: 6482

3/9/07   5     5     5     5   Dr.Pam and the staff (especially Jen) have gone above and beyond to help my pets. My dog HAD a persistent problem and Dr. Pam's follow up was outstanding. She always stayed on top of all of his issues. Glad to say he is FINE only because of love and expertise from Dr. Pam and staff. RID: 2993
Click to report rating    2/22/07   1     1     1     1   I USED to go to this Vet. But after outragious fees and lack of concern for my pets and the inconsiderate staff it was time to move on. He had one vet that was awesome but she left due to the procedures of the office. I followed her foot steps after my last and final horrific experience with Dr P. assistants. Dr Doug obviously couldn't help due to the lack of being in the office regularly. My recommendation....someone else other than Clarkson Wilson RID: 2885

2/22/07   2     2     1     1   I have been going to this vet for years and each time I think to myself that I need to find a vet that gives more consideration to the clients as for as price is concerned. They do more procedures that I consider unnecessary and my bill is always very high even when I say lets not get carried away. I believe you should be told when something is over $200. Not everyone is able to pay for high bills when you are not told of the pricing. I complained one time when it was over $400 and then it happened again. I now go to the Humane Society. RID: 2884
Click to report rating    2/15/07   5     5     5     5   Dr. Pernikoff has gone above and beyond for me and has always been there when I needed him. He takes care of my dogs as well as my exotics. His office staff has always been fantastic in the 6+ years I've been going there. Everyone I've referred to him has been pleased with the service they've received. RID: 2851
2/5/07   1     1     1     1   Over confidence endangers the animals under his care. He is a brilliant and talented vet but is extremely lazy when it comes around to caring for injured animals. RID: 2626
Click to report rating    1/31/07   1     1     2     1   Dr. Pernikoff billed for services not performed. He often left some procedures to technicians that I thought should probably have been performed by him instead. RID: 2375
Click to report rating    1/31/07   1     2     2     1   Kept my snake for "observation" and would not give any information on her health for over a week. I finally got fed up and came to pick her up, and she was almost completely emaciated and had obviously not been cared for. I nursed her back to health on my own, no thanks to Pernikoff. RID: 2362
Click to report rating    1/31/07   1     1     1     1   Dr. Pernikoff spayed out kitty and didn't take out her ovaries. She then came into heat. We took her to another vet and he discovered that the ovaries had not been removed. I would never recommend this veterinarian. RID: 2352
Click to report rating    12/30/06   2     2     2     2   I took my puppy to Dr. Pernikoff to get spayed. She was sent home without any pain meds. She therefore was miserable and cried the whole night. Then her stiches from the surgery were infected so I had to go back. He asked me to hold her down, not a vet tech. He then turned her over and sliced open her wound to get an infected stich out. He did not numb her first or tell us he was going to do that. She was screaming in pain and he did nothing for her. I have since found a vet that I love and I realize that Clarkson Wilson vet does not do things the way they should. They never called me to tell me when she was finished having her surgery and they forgot to tell me that she needed a follow-up apt. I would stronlgy suggest not going to this vet. I will never go back! RID: 1634
Click to report rating    12/28/06   2     4     4     1   We have pet chinchillas and brought one of them to Dr. Pernikoff upon recommendations of several people that he is very knowlegable about exotic pets. Our chinchilla had lost a lot of weight and wasn't eating or****ing. He kept our chinchilla in his office for 4 days, never once calling to give us an update on his condition. We called each day inquiring and they always told us he was the same. On the fifth day, we called around 11 am (they open at 9 am) and we were told that he died during the night. THEY DIDN'T EVEN CALL US TO TELL US THAT HE DIED, WE HAD TO CALL THEM! It might just be a chinchilla to Dr. Pernikoff and his staff, but Teddy was our baby. Please do not take your beloved pets to this man. RID: 1573
