My family has always brought our pets to this hospital, and now that I have my own I bring them here too. The staff has always been very friendly, and take the time to explain things. My cat recently had some dental work done and I am amazed how much better her breath is.

My dogs have always received top-notch care from the veterinarians at Salmon Brook. They always call to follow up and check in on the dogs. The staff is courteous, helpful and they all know how to make my dogs feel at ease each time we go in!

Please do not use this vet! My beloved dog developed pnuemonia there and had to be put down by my former vet in Colchester. Unfortunately because of a move, i had to change vets. She would still be alive today if this didn't happen. All of her immunizations were current when i had to board her for three days. They called to tell me she had a gi upset and gave her a seditive. My dog was a calm, loving and gentle golden retriever that i had the good fortune to raise from a puppy. They were arrogant, rude and unhelpful when i repeatedly asked them if she was ok, they said she was fine. I was 4 hours away in Maine and my gut told me to get home which i did asap. It was too late, she was so sick. The vets in Colchester tried to save her but when she went to "code blue" during her xray session i knew it looked bad. The veterinarian that i had worked with in Colchester was so kind and did his best. He had successfully helped her for the past 3 years with other minor issues.BEWARE

This vet is the worst. I took my cat there because she couldn't walk. They gave her a cortizone shot and sent her home. A couple of hours later she couldn't breathe. We called the vet 2x and didn't get help. We brought her in to the hospital. Her tests came back so bad and had to be in oxygen. We had to put my poor baby down. And then when the vet called us 4 days later and was rude as could be. I will never go back there

As a long time customer, I like to think I have a pretty good read on SBVH. Like any business, they have pros and cons. Some of the desk staff are great, while others are fair at best. Rating a vet is like rating a doctor-do you want the most skilled, most knowledgeable, one with good bedside manner? You can also request a certain vet or state which you don't want. Costs: Yes, health care/vet care is expensive, and SBVH is very expensive, but I have never experienced high pressure sales. My biggest complaint is the very limited hours/no ER service. I refuse to take my animals to the West Hartford ER, and think at least for their regular customers they could offer a callback service.

Had a sick goat took him to Salmon Brook, they overdosed him on medications, and he died in my arms. They did an autopsy on him and admitted they messed up the dosage amount. Second bad experience I had with them was when my dog was sick, the vet on call was so rude to me that I will NEVER use them again.

The vet care is good. The problem I have with Salmon Brook is that it is very expensive. Their facility with 8 vets is a money-making machine.
If you have the money then go no problem. otherwise the problem - read other posts - is that they push for the most expensive care but don't give you a break if they make a mistake. They pushed for expensive testing of my dog ($300) and when the tests came back they were not sure what to do. So they tried this and it did not work then tried that. At the end, it was more than $1000 and my dog was still sick.
But did they give me a break to try to resolve the situation? Heck no. Their answer was to have a PET scan for $2000.
If I go to a business and they do not fix my problem, they will work for FREE until the problem is resolved but not Salmon Brook so this is the end for me.
Also note that they do not want to give you the RX so yo can buy the pet drugs somewhere else. They want you to buy the drugs at their facility. I compared their drug p

Salmon Brook Vet removed what they thought was a cyst on my Rottweiler, never tested it and now it has grown back 6 weeks later and is actually a cancerous tumor. They have admitted their error and are only offering another surgery at half price, hardly fair for their mistake. Also they never charge the amount of their quote, it's always higher. The staff is very friendly, it's the medical care that I questiuon.

these guys years back told us after my dog was hit by a car the day before to either put him down NOW or ampuate Right now. We left their feeling terrible. Our dog was only two at the time. We left those vets ten years ago. Comet lived another ten and a half years. We did amputate, but after three months of therapy.

I have 4 dogs and 1 horse. This facility is tops. We always see Dr. Paul Groshek and he is so kind. Always takes the time to explain what the problem is without making me feel stupid. I had an old Lab with Cushings disease and Dr. Groshek fought for quality of life with my old girl and when the time came, he didn't hesitate to tell me. When Hannah was put down, they were so respectful and understanding of my sadness. I could go on and on but suffice it to say that if this vet is within an hour of you, you would be doing your animals a great service by going there!
