We brought our dog in for an emergency. He was bleeding from the ear and the bleeding wouldn't stop. He chased a squirrel behind a bush and came out screaming. We didn't know what had happened to him. We waited in the lobby for 15 min. before going to an exam room. Dr. Sheffield came in & briefly examined his ear and said he would be back in to clean it up. Meanwhile Otto's condition was deteriorating & my husband & I knew something else was wrong besides just a puncture on his ear. My husband told the techs twice that he was bleeding and it wouldn't stop and they kept saying Sheffield would be right in, keep pressure on it. To make a long & terrible story short, by the time Sheffield finally gave him a thorough exam and realized he had been bitten by a snake he was hanging on by a thread. We wanted him to have antivenin and they demanded $1100 before they would treat him. Otto died 20 min. later. If he would have been examined thoroughly when we got there, he might still be alive.
