I am writing to recount an incident that occurred at Academy Animal Hospital, located at 5915 Belair Rd, Baltimore, MD 21206. I dropped my dog off there on Tuesday Feb 9 for a spa bath treatment ($75.00). They returned my dog to me with one of the nails on his rear paw completely extracted. He was injured - left bloodied and limping. To add insult to injury, the animal hospital added $120 to my bill for a prescription medication (an antibiotic) for an injury that occurred at their facility, on their watch. I asked that the prescription be sent to my pharmacy instead - they later told me that my pharmacy was out of the drug. I called the pharmacy myself and was informed they'd had no request for a prescription from the Academy Animal Hospital in my name...
Last time my pet came home with kennel cough and redness in his eyes - they attributed it to pulling, he hadn't experienced eye redness or kennel cough before being boarded there.
I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone!

I have gone to this practice for at least 8 years and though they are very busy and it is not the newest building, my animals receive excellent care. I have moved out of Balto. City but still drive past about 4 different vet practices to go here.

The one main male doctor (about 50yrs old white man)seemed to have a switch that goes off if in a bad mood that causes bad manners. The mandated 60 dollar exam fee is supposed to include a real exam which the tech barely did at all. The staff i dealt with doesnt seem very compassionate at all and seem to not really care if your animal dies or just died or not. Seems like more of a job for the vets and techs than a passion for animals and there health. One vet there seemed very nice and thorough but i dont know the name and havnt seen him there again.(younger black guy w dreads) Overall I'd say they should all go back for bedside manner classes since this seems to be something they missed.

good vets, no appt required, efficient front desk staff; they treat cats, too. Not recommended for boarding, though.
