This place is a rip off. It is obvious they see animals as $ signs, not patients, and communication is horrible. I brought in two kittens I adopted with colds. The first thing they wanted to do was test them for FIV, and implied that if the kittens tested positive they should be put down or otherwise gotten rid of. Come to find out with my own research that cats with FIV can lead normal, healthy lives. They also conducted two other unnecessary tests which had absolutely nothing to do with the kittens' symptoms, neither of which were explained to me. They also neglected to explain that the medication needed to refrigerated immediately, wasting even more of my money, and when I attempted to redress this problem I was told I would simply have to buy more, since all of this was my fault, not theirs. So I am $300 poorer and still have two sick kittens.

We went to the San Marcos location once when our dog hurt his leg and we ended up paying over 500 dollars for an x-ray and told he would need surgery which was fine if our pet needed it. we took him home to discuss and get a second opinion. within a couple days he was fine and has been fine ever since we talked to a friend of ours who was a vet and he said our dog was fine and that the clinic actually gave us the wrong pain meds for him. We decided to try them a second time when we needed to get him fixed. When we got there to pick him up the staff was very short and huffy because our dog was whining in the back. They were upset because our scared dog was whining after surgery. Then when we got him home on the second day his stitches started coming out and he was bleeding and we took him back to get him taken care of and they charged us to glue it and give him antibiotics even though it was from their shoddy work. Overall a horrible place that tries to nickel and dime you. Stay away.

ABC PACIFIC BEACH (HORNBLEND ST). Used to be good, clean, with professional staff and competent service. not any more. Took cat in this week. Place was filthy. My shirt actually stuck to the back of the waiting room bench and the floor looked like a McDonald's kitchen. Gross. Smarmy techs with attitude who looked they should work in a McDonald's kitchen, not a veterinary hospital.

I take my dogs to the office on Normal St. for their vet needs. I like the staff...I've found the girls who work the front desk to be very friendly and patient with my dogs, who are young and still working on manners and training. One thing that does bother me about the place is the price. Every time I've visited I have had to go over their estimate and cut out the items I feel are unnecessary just to get the cost below $200. A years prescription of Heartgard is over $100 from the vet...and available everywhere else for $60. When you add the $50 exam fee, another $100-150 for unecessary blood tests, plus the cost of worm and flea meds...My ticket usually starts out at around $400. But overall, I give them high marks.

The one on Normal street is THE WORST vet I have ever been to. The girls running the front desk were annoyed talking to me on the phone, they were annoyed when I showed up. I explained to them that all I wanted was a $13 vaccine and a blood test that they quoted me for $150. So the doctor comes in and I tell her EXACTLY what I want done, she seems to understand and left. The front desk chick comes back in with an estimate of $208. (This included a $45 "EXAM FEE") I said the vet spent a minute with my dog and she didn't even "examine" anything! This vet is a quack. I told them I wasn't paying and I wanted all my records and paperwork. They gave them to me and threatened me saying my info was still in their computers. I left and about a week later I get a letter in the mail threatening my credit saying I better pay up that $45 "exam fee". The people who work there just want your money and dont even care about animals. They are rude, uneducated, and money-hungry!

This is about the San Marcos, CA location. I have had appointments for my cats with 3 different vets there. Dr Landen & Dr Hansche are great. The other one didn't seem to know much about cats. It depends upon which doctor you get. I like both Drs Landen & Hansche. They treat me and my cats like the family we are. They realize how important my cats are to me. On the last visit, Dr Hansche didn't recommend unnecessary treatment that might've cost a lot--he suggested we come back for a recheck before deciding to do something more, because the problem seemed intermittent. I was glad to hear that he doesn't simply prescribe medication without really finding out if it's needed. Friendly staff. There's a pet portal where you can check your pet's records; a very convenient service. Make sure you check with a doctor or tech for advice, sometimes receptionists will try to help by giving advice, but it isn't always the best advice.

I love this vet. I have been to two of its locations. My dog needed surgery and extensive care and it turned out great.

This is one of the vets I tried when I got my new puppy and I didn't stick with them. They are cheap and OK to take your pet to if you just want simple care, like vaccinations or whatever, but I've gone to better vets who are more sensitive and give you more personalized attention. At ABC I felt rushed and felt like all they cared about was taking care of as many pets as fast as possible.

After having a bad experience with the first vet I went to after moving to San Diego, I was weary of going to other places and dealing with the same "big city" feeling. I wanted something that felt more personal. The moment I walked into the ABC vet hospital I knew they were going to be taking care of my pets for a long time. They took the time to get to know me and my animals. The staff is so extremely nice and caring; I couldn't imagine going anywhere else now.
