I took my dog in because she was whinning and squinting, and wouldnt open her eye. NPEC in nashville told me i would have to leave her the night. When i picked her up the next day they gave me 2 eye ointments and told me she had a corneal ulcer. I took her to her regular vet for a recheck and the doctor tested her eye and informed me with the eye ointments it would be fine. They charged me several hundred dollars for overnight care for a service that took 15 minutes.

My friends all told me these places were bad and to find a vet who did their own emergency care but that is easier said than done. I have been to both 12th Ave and Rivergate and I will never go to either again. Their costs are ridiculous. They do so many unnecessary tests and procedures that it adds up to insane. Just about every time I have been there they have caused my animal more pain than if I hadn't taken them. This is just nuts that Nashville can't provide good, affordable ER care.

I had to take my dog in on a Sunday for dehydration and diarrhea. He was young so they ran a battery of tests. They eventually gave him fluids and something to stop the diarrhea.Although I agree the cost is outrageous, I cannot say it was a completely negative experience.I just hope I don't have to go back any time soon.

My father had a golden who was attacked and he was taken to our local vet who had closed and sent his staff home. He needed assistance because Bear had sever trama to his neck. The vet said he was as good as gone and my dad would not give up. He took him to the ER in Rivergate. They didi not tell my dad the odds. They took him back. Dad looked back and Bear was laying on a tabel with zero staff around and no kind off trama care. Such as fluids, heating pads, breathing help, or a much needed blood transfussion since his juguar was completely ripped out. About an hour later they cam eout and said he was dead and charged dad 1,200.00 for what we don't know because dad was so sick from the loss and stress he just paid and left with his dead best friend. I have been a vet tec for 10 years and if I could have been in state with dad there would have been a lot of questions. I was not there so this is second hand from my dad. He has nothing to gain from this tell except to help someone else.

I agree - I have only delt with the Nashville ER but the care given was not what I expected expecially for the prices charged. I know it is as stated above the luck of the draw with the vet you get but I have not been impressed with either visit I have made to the facility.

My friend took in a little yorkie she bought from me in the middle of night,he was 9 weeks old, she gave him a bath earlier that night using Flea shampoo(bottle stated not for use in dogs under 10 weeks)She brought shampoo with her, told them it might have had a reaction-he had been fine-then suddenly went into a seizure or some kind of fitthey ignored what she told them, didn't even look at bottle, treated him for heart problem he did not have and also made it clear that the facility closed at 6:00 a.m. -he was in real bad shape as they were trying to figure out what was wrong (she told them-they didn't listen)finally as he was barely hanging on and she felt he was suffering-and not knowing how she was going to take him from facility when he needed to be monitored, she allowed them to put him to sleep,We were so heartbroken and when she said they had told her he probably had something wrong with his heart,I had autopsy done -was flea shampoo that killed him-Please DO NOT use flea shampoo

I have been only to the Rivergate clinic and even though the prices are over the top, I have had mostly good experiences. I had a dog with diabetes and we made several unscheduled visits and they pulled him through every times. I agree that the quality of the vets varies depending on the luck of the draw. The new facility is so much better than when it was in a renovated residence. It is certainly good after hours care if no one else is open.

Rivergate and Nashville Pet ER's both owned by a consortium of vets in town. You can often get great advice over the phone - sometimes even life saving advice. The vets rotate so the vet care fluctuates wildly. Some excellent, some awful. Despite the ungodly high prices (I mean off the charts), both facilities are run down and not places I would want one of my pets to be subjected to surgery in. If one of my pets were dying I would be hesitant to go to either ER, having had enough bad experiences at each one.
