If you love your pet, do NOT take them to Dr. Gonzales. She has shown time and time again that she is not passionate about the animals she treats and is very rude to the owners. Beware!

I have been going here two years for check ups for my dog. One day my dog could not eat and could not keep the little bit of food down that he was eating so I took him in, he is 11. Well I had to get blood work/senior screen was 182.00. Ok still not eating and don't know why. So then we had x-rays 110.00. Still cant tell what the problem is. Then we had to do a ultra-sound that cost 150.00. Still nothing. Surgery was the only option now and at his age, probably not good but they said we would do it, well 4th July weekend came and went and it was like a different place when I went in on Tuesday. The week before I had told them what kind of money I was working with and that I could not afford surgery,I asked if I could post date two checks. They said sure. Well something changed their mind and they said no. After all that money, $750.00 including 150 for medication. They would not operate. Now I am watching my loyal friend die right before my eyes. I feel like crap, not again!

I have seen Dr. Barnes and Gonzales. They are a bit expensive and they are never on time.I know they are the only exotics vet in this area,however Barnes and Gonzales is very knowledgeable about both Guinea pigs and Chinchillas, and the vet techs are as well.They tend to hire new Vet. Assistants and the front staff is young, and slow but very nice. I would agree with a earlier post that they don't call back in a timely manner. Even if they weren't the only exotics vet I would be going back for both yearly checkups and emergencies. I have been to them for both, and even for rescue chinchillas before they went to a foster home, they have never over charged us and they care about the animals, including the front staff. Dr Gongalez has a tendency to not listen to the peoples knowledge of the animals/ideas however she is knowledgeable.Dr. Barnes listens and takes what you know into consideration.I went several times in 2 months and everybody was loving on my pet, and asking of the other

I have been going to Lakeside for a few years now and love it. It is alittle more expensive than other local vets. The waiting room is very clean as well as the rooms. The front desk was great, Crystal has been there since I have and is great. The assistants are very knowledgable. Only thing that needs work is my wait time.

I have gone to this vet for many years because she is honest and does care about all pets. The front desk staff is the best I have ever seen, bar none. Yanna has helped me many times with always a pleasant attitude and professional mannar, even on difficult situations.

Major complaint - pricing. They gave me an estimate for our dog's surgical procedure and then the final price was double their quote. They didn't call us or anything to ask permission. For another dog we got an initial quote and they were triple the price of another vet in town (I went to the other vet b/c it wasn't urgent). On the first visit I called inquiring of prices for a "office visit" and they charged me more than what they quoted on the phone for a routine check. Staff and doctors seem adequate, but I've got to wonder if the doctor was well skilled, if the first surgery I referenced would have gone better and fit wihtin her original estimate. I will not go back there ever, nor recommend them. I won't even take my pet back for the after surgery care, planning on seeing a different vet. Consdering hiring a lawyer to recoup my costs, as they were excessively over their quote. Oh yeah, and get ready for a guilt trip if you disagree with them or challenge the costs.

The office is clean and the staff is ok, but my primary complaint is their pricing. If you have exotics, they will charge you an arm and a leg even for a wellness checkup; I was charged almost $200 for Dr. Gonzales to do a simple physical exam on a small conure I had just adopted from a rescue. Unfortunately they are one of the only exotic vets in Richmond, and that is probably why they are so expensive. But I will not be going back. If I have to drive out of town, I will. There is no reason to spend so much on mediocre service.

The facilities are nice and the staff pleasant, but there is a lot of turnover and often I have had to call in to get results from tests. They are not good about returning phone calls and I am planning to change vets.

I went there once with my husband and one of his dogs. They tried to sell us everything under the Sun! Ridiculous. The front staff was young and giggly and acted like they didn't know what they were doing. Won't go back.

This is my favorite vet in Richmond. Dr. Gonzalez treats my pets like they were her own. A lot of vets just get you in & out, but she takes the time to discuss & explain things. I highly recommend Lakeside Animal Hospital to anyone!
