Click to report rating    6/12/12   1     1     1     1   I brought my Black Lab into their office because he was extremely lethargic and had not been able to eat/keep any food down for over 24 hours. Even water was hard for him to keep down. I gave him a little water at 9:37am before going to the CAVES Capital Area Vet Emergency Services at about 10:30 and he was able to keep that down for a bit while we were there (which was over an hour between the waiting room and our time alone in the exam room-no vet present) A Dr. Holly VanNess came in, talked to me about his condition, patted him, with my help, helped him to stand, which he didn't do for long as he fell back on the floor within a couple of seconds. She left the room again and said she would get a xray room ready for us and to wait a few moments for her. While she was gone another girl came in with two applications for credit (care credit and Wells Fargo Financing-don't even try calling you'll never get a chance to apply-automated) She said she would go out and allow me to call e RID: 34936

Click to report rating    5/21/11   2     4     2     1   I am grateful to have an emergency clinic nearby. I brought my dog because she had watery diarrhea. The receptionist was perfectly nice as was one of the assistants. The vet, while doubtless competent, was not good at dealing with people. After barely examining my dog, he insisted that she probably had parvovirus, which was terrifying. He did a test and found that she actually had giardia. While I can appreciate that he might have looked at her and thought "parvovirus", I don't think it was very helpful to tell me that before doing any conclusive test. I also did not like that they did a bladder puncture on my dog without telling me (she can pee on command) and I could hear my dog yelping in pain when they did it. We waited over an hour for the vet to see us (it was not very late at night when we came in, only around 8 pm) and my dog was the only patient in the clinic at the time. CAVES is very expensive, but pets are worth it. The parking lot is poorly lit at night. RID: 25138
Click to report rating    3/6/07   5     5     5     5   I worked with Steve Graves, DVM for 4 years prior to him going to CAVS. He is an excellent veterinarian. I've seen him work to save a dogs life after being hit by a car and he was better thatn a human doctor in an emergency room. He is a wonderful veterinarian. RID: 2963
