Click to report rating    7/9/14   1     2     2     1   This place is a money making enterprise first and foremost. Doctors are 50/50 because they are most often wrong or misdiagnose aliments, prompting a re-visit which guess what, costs more money ($85 it seems is their current rate, up from $60 just a couple years ago). The thing that bugs me the most is their staff - very unfriendly. I was made to feel like I was leaving a cult after asking for my pet's records in order to go somewhere else. Come on, be a professional and hand them over with a smile. These people are horrible since the original owners left themselves, probably due to everything I mentioned here and more. STAY AWAY FROM OAKHURST VET. RID: 52468

Click to report rating    2/7/13   1     1     1     1   WOW, you guys are a RIP OFF!!! I'm a breeder and I show Standard Poodles. I called around to get prices for health certificates and 8 wk vaccines for my 9 pups. A few other Vets wanted $35-$40 a pup. Oakhurst Vet wants $125 for the 1st pup and $115 for each additional pup which does NOT INCLUDE DEWORMING!! And the woman that answered my call, STEPHANIE was VERY rude and sarcastic! RID: 40236

Click to report rating    7/14/12   5     5     4     4   From the second the women picked up the phone, I felt relief. I explained my situation, and the women was extreamly compassionate. When I asked about the fee, She was going to put me in as an appointment and with the $25 new patient discount, it would only be $60. Upon arrival, I noticed how well kept the place was, and how wonderful the staff was. The nurse was passionate about helping and knowlageable of Thor's condition. When DR. Applegate arrived, my boyfriend swore that we have found our forever vet. not only was the Doctor helpful, He walked through everything he was doing and why. Gave him a complete check-up and provided a fluid treatment to re-hydrate Thor. He provieded us with some amazing take home information that would help us keep this problem from happening. He comended us for noticing the change so quickly. We prevented a larger problem. The best thing? The whole ordeal cost me $89 with the liquid treatment! I would suggest OVH to anybody! RID: 35640
Click to report rating    10/9/11   1     5     5     3   I've been going to Oakhurst since before it went corporate. Dr. Fanders and Dr. Doolen were great, but have left now. I had a recent bad experience with Dr. Applegate, who I believe does not know much about my type of exotic and is not very connected to the animal itself. He advised me to continue a course of medication that was clearly harming my pet, with disastrous results. Dr. Fordham has a better attitude, but seemed clueless on how to treat my pet. If you have an exotic, please: go to Northstar in Robbinsville and see Dr. Doolen. If Oakhurst's medical staff changes again, I could see going back in the future, because I think the tech staff are very caring. The boarding facilities are very good, though expensive. RID: 28193
Click to report rating    8/24/10   1     5     5     1   can barely give them a star. We brought our cat in due to his bad breath. The vet took a quick look at him and said that he had an abscess in his mouth and suspected kidney failure and diabetes. She wanted to hospitalize this 17 year old cat and aggressively test him for these "conditions". When we balked at putting an old cat through these procedures, she said..."Well, then let's euthanize him today". We were appalled. This cat was not suffering, was in fairly good spirits, and she wanted to put him to sleep because we weren't willing to subject him to a barrage of testing and told us it would cost thousands of dollars.. Bottom line, we asked her for some antibiotics and took him to another vet who said the cat was in good health for his age and needed his teeth cleaned!!!! Beware. RID: 19386
Click to report rating    8/23/10   1     5     5     1   Although it is a beautiful facility, the doctor I saw was way below satisfactory. I recently adopted my first exotic pet and took him to see Dr. Applegate. After meeting with him, I was very concerned how he appeared not to know what he was doing with my pet and that all he wanted to do was run tests that were unnecessary. It was all about making money, and not what was best for the pet or the client. I would not recommend him as a vet to anyone. RID: 19358
Click to report rating    6/29/09   2     3     2     1   Doctors very impersonal, and for the money you spend definitely not worth it. Stay away from Dr. Campbell, very sly! RID: 13332
Click to report rating    12/27/08   4     5     5     1   Oakhurst Vet. 5 STARS. Good for local visites, but not for a treatment plan.Reason they have a low/high cost as others give you the real price.Ex.Oak vet.L $1400/H $1,946 & you must sign a good faith Est.& 50% of money placed down from the H Est. as well. It"s like having a license to steal. Also their medication is so so costly such as heartworm pills by as much as 30% more than the ASPCA or PETMED.COM.They hate to write a RX for you to go elsewhere they want all your $$$.Moral of my story :I found another Vet. rated 4 1/2 STARS and in business for over 50 years as well. Cost for same treament ($485.00) The money I saved is for my pet to go on a vacation with the whole family to enjoy next year. Its like a BONUS for all.PS:NO NEED TO IMPRESS MY PET WITH A 12,000 Sq foot building in which neither of us have STOCK in the Co.IT'S YOUR PET/YOUR MONEY SO BE SMART MY PET LOVERS.HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL RID: 11003
Click to report rating    8/3/08   5     5     5     3   I have been going to Oakhurst for several years now to see Dr. Doolen and Dr. Fanders for my pet rabbits. Both are very knowledgable and have tried everything they could to keep my (often sick) rabbit in good health. While I agree that sometimes treatment can be expensive, they always provide a detailed explaination of the costs BEFORE anything is done with both a minimum value and maximum value and you have to sign that you realize this is the price. I admit I have spend over $1000 in one go on my rabbit, so it can be expensive, but it was my decision to do so and I do not regret it because I know my rabbit received the best care in new jersey. Their hopital facilities are amazing and immaculate and their emergency care is absolutely the best. I would never go anywhere else. I realize the price might be high for some people but knowing that my animals are in the most capable of hands, I would not trust them to anyone else.We drive over 50miles each way just so our pets can see thedocs RID: 9550
Click to report rating    7/31/08   1     4     3     1   I would strongly discourage anyone from going to Oakhurst Vet!! I recently brought my dog in for a routine rabbies shot. To my surprise, the bill wound up being $400!! Besides getting bloodwork done, a rabbies shot, and heartworm pills, I am still unsure what they did exactly. The Dr. spent about 10 mins with my pet and I told me that my dog was in great health despite needing her teeth cleaned which they gave me an esitimate for $700/min and $1300/max. After the clear impression, that their main concern is to make as much money off you as possible, I went to another vet. Great news is that I found wonderful, caring vet as a result of my experience at Oakhurst. My pet just had her teeth cleaned yesterday, was licking her new vet on the face when we left....and I was only charged $240. RID: 9516
Click to report rating    6/23/07   5     5     5     5   They saved my animals life and were excellent. Other offices would have charged alot more..... RID: 4799

Click to report rating    3/21/07   3     3     2     1   Extremely expensive and when advised that you choose to take your animal to a cost efficient shot/spay/neuter clinic--they insinuate that the "quality will be lacking". They are not fond of writing Rx's either (i.e. "petmeds.com", drs foster&smith.com, etc). They LOVE to run tests too. They are good for an emergency situation, and I am sure that they are very good doctors-clinically speaking, but they DO SOOOO cherish the almighty dollar, this makes me wonder "who do they care more about-the animal or the money?". Oh, and yes...emergency visits even during normal business hours cost more than a regular (prescheduled) office visit. It's really sad when vets get to that point in their career. By the way, my comments are based solely on personal experience. RID: 3104
Click to report rating    1/23/07   2     2     1     1   They are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. The doctors are more focused on getting tests done and procedures than anything else. MONEY MONEY MONEY is the only thing that they seem to look at... RID: 2152
