Click to report rating    11/24/17   1     4     4     1   Dr Paul McNamara did surgery on my puppy. Although the surgery itself went fine, everything else was highly upsetting. He (and his staff who take direction from him) were irritated and impatient with my questions. They kept saying "these questions were already covered in the consult". I don't think it's unreasonable for an owner to ask the same question a few times. I am not a vet and the information was new to me and fairly upsetting. I expect to be treated respectfully and patiently even if it takes a few times for me to fully understand the facts. Further, I got no guidance about post operative rehabilitation or long term care. I was ordered to follow instructions without any understanding. I found this doctor to be nasty and even threatening. And even though I had to spend more money to do it, I finally I decided to take my puppy to a different vet who could help me better understand what lay ahead for us. RID: 65110
Click to report rating    5/16/17   1     3     3     1   Have been going to Hudson Highland since the late 80's. They have gone to the Dogs, the staff is incompetent and has cause harm to my pet out of routing visit! Now I'm shelling out tons of money to have the issues they created resolved. Staff did not follow up on it and is now keeping quite and withholding results!!! Do your pet a favor and STAY AWAY!!! RID: 63654
Click to report rating    6/7/15   1     4     3     1   I am very disappointed that this vetpractice recommends a vet ambulance service that I used called Vet Medics. It was extremely overpriced but more importantly, it isn't even bonded. That is a VERY big deal. Even pet sitters are bonded in case something happens. Since they use this person as "staff" , I put 1 s on staff and monetary value. They are supposedly a professional practice? Don't they screen who they refer to? I will never recommend this practice because of them using a service that isn't even bonded to handle sick pets. If something happens, they should be sued for it. RID: 57312
7/22/13   2     2     2     1   I too used to value and trust this group since I moved here in 1999. I have seen numerous vets leave the group to my disappointment. Their prices have skyrocketed and their personel care has declined. They are not updated on toxic use of frontline or over vaccination of pets, in fact they always try to get me to pay for more and more vaccines and tests I do not feel are necessary. Just to get a rabies booster, they charged $45 when the vaccine cost less than $2 to make. They wanted to charge me a full office visit which I talked them out of, so they charged a consult fee. One vet did not wash his hands after performing an aspirate of my dog's lymph node. I could see blood on two of his fingers. I was appalled to say the least. They are open 24 hours and the vet has to be called in, however there is now an emergency vet on route 9 and I think I will switch vets and use the route 9 emergency vet if needed. Something declined after Dr. Whitefield died. What a real shame. They are too big! RID: 45773

Click to report rating    10/18/11   1     1     1     1   Prices are off the chartsand they certainly are not state of the art! They used to be great ... not sure what happened but they are far from great now! Not available 24 hrs like they say, constant turn over of Vets except for Dr. Whitefield, Dr. Mcnamara, and Dr. Kalba who remain a constant at HHVMC. Look for better quality care - your pet's life depends on it! RID: 28390
Click to report rating    1/11/11   5     5     5     5   MY Saint bernard puppy was diagnosised with hip dysplasia at 6 months old. We took him to several specialists adn finally we found Hudson Highlands. At 9 months old my poor little puppy could not even act like a pup he was in so much pain. Dr. MacNamara gave us a full one hour consultation, my dog loved him and he gave us so much hope for this dogs future when no other vet would. Everyone else wanted surgery right now but he set us on the path to medical managment instead of sucking us dry with costly surgical procedures. We have been using this treatment since April of last year, 10 months now, and I now have a a 145 pound happy go lucky pup that I would say is 90% pain free. Thank you Dr. MacNamara and all those at Hudson Highland. RID: 21963
Click to report rating    7/11/09   1     1     1     1   This vet practice presents itself as state of the art.I feel its not. Quality of care, outdated equipment. In fact, they closed Hopewell office, noticed Beacon and the Fishkill office are never crowded. My guess is they are losing business. Other poster is right-used to be good when Dr. Whitefield -husband NOT wife was alive. Dr. Schneck left as did other good vets too. I feel Dr. McNamara has a nasty attitude which may outweigh his ability. He also indicates he was a professor at Cornell. Is that true or was he a post grad instructor-like a student teacher? He is "Chief of Surgery" at Hudson Highlands-actually he is the ONLY surgeon there. Go to NYC, NJ or Westchester for talented surgeons with well equipped hospitals. Also, some techs not licensed.Front desk isn't too bright-you get lots of misinformation. I feel they are costly and it isn't as if you are going to one of the better vets in the area.I have heard radio ads for them-could they be desparate for business?    RID: 13461
Click to report rating    5/31/07   1     1     1     1   I had been a client of HHVMC for 20 years working with 3 veterinarians who I respected. In 2004 when Dr. John Whitefield, the hospital founder, unexpectedly passed his spirit and ideals of service were no longer practiced at HHVMC. The ultimate disrespect to his legacy and the professional reputation of Dr. John Whitefield is that his wife Dr. Twila Moore took his name after his death and is now practicing as Dr. Whitefield. Pet owners should be warned that they are not seeking a consult with the well respected Dr. John Whitefield and question her ethics for the deception. RID: 4309
Click to report rating    1/29/07   3     5     5     3   In the past I would have given a better rating. I still highly recommend Dr. Whitefield, and most of the staff; however I had a very bad experience with their surgeon, Dr. Paul McNamara. He did a cruciate imbrication on my dog, and when I tried to make a follow up appointment to make sure my dog was healing properly I was told that I could not take up the doctor's time. I was even refused a telephone consultation. When I continued to insist, Dr. McNamara came to the phone; he was angry that I had tried to get an appointment and he was very rude to me; in fact, he had me in tears. He is probably a skilled surgeon, but I believe it is possible to find a good surgeon who is also accessible and polite! This is just my personal experience. RID: 2276
