Click to report rating    8/26/19   1     3     4     3   My dog could not bark for a few months after one of the female vets at Granville Island Vet cleaned my dogs' teeth (I think his vocal cords may have been temporarily injured). Therefore, cannot recommend this clinic for teeth cleaning with this particular female vet even though she is a very friendly person and treated my dog kindly during examinations. My dog is now fine however thank goodness. My dog has had many teeth cleanings in the past and one recently and this problem of not being able to bark after the cleaning has never ever happened anywhere else. Hopefully, this vet has improved her skills. RID: 68496

5/7/16   5     5     5     5   The care both of my dogs have received here has been wonderful. My younger dog ate a sock and needed surgery for a blockage in Dec/15 and the vets and staff who cared for him were amazing. My older dog recently was diagnosed with Cushing's disease and the vets and staff went out of their way to help both of us. RID: 60520

6/26/14   1     1     1     1   One of the vets here said my cat had kidney problems, and needed large amounts of sub q fluids. He recommended so much fluid that it made holes in my cats lungs and they filled with fluid. When I took her in to get the fluid removed, he said he had already done everything he could. I insisted and only then did he remove the fluid. I took my cat to two other vets after that. Both vets told me her kidneys were fine and that she hadn't needed the fluid. I asked what to do about her lungs and was recommended to a specialist who also said her kidneys were fine, but that there was nothing that could be done for her lungs and she died two days later. The former vet also insisted that we get blood tests every week to monitor her kidneys, even though this is only recommended every few months by other vets. She became anemic and was put on iron supplements, dangerous to cats with heart problems like her, but the vet hadn't told us of the risk and she became very ill and did not recover. RID: 52292

Click to report rating    8/28/12   5     5     5     5   The vets here are excellent. Very caring and helpful. They go above and beyond the call of duty - I wish my own doctor was as nice to me as they are to our animals. Great vet (Dr. Wallace is excellent). Wouldn't go anywhere else. RID: 36865
Click to report rating    5/25/12   5     5     5     5   This hospital far surpasses my expectations of a pet clinic. It's facility is clean, and the staff is extremely experienced. If a case is "out of their depth", they are more than willing to refer to a specialist. It is also one of the few clinics to have staff working overnight! Yes, they are a bit more expensive, but as is the case with most things, "you get what you pay for". RID: 34504
Click to report rating    3/6/12   5     5     5     5   My apologies to GIVH with regards to the treatment of Rumble. They were not the one who looked at Rumble. My source misinformed me as he was unaware that the hospital he was referring to was the Vancouver Animal Emergency Clinic, which is across the street. He was in a tizzy because his dog was shot, his house broken into and robbed and, his parents, due to cultural differences, told him to put Rumble down. My neighbours told me that they bring their pup to this vet and really liked their quality of service. They have insurance and they are renters and not exactly rich so I assume they found the pricing reasonable. I will personally apologize to GIVH for this error. RID: 32683
3/3/12   1     1     1     1   http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Dona... The owner brought Rumble right after finding his dog shot and beaten. The vet DEMANDED $2000 up front before helping Rumble. It was late at night and the owner said he had only $350 now and will get the rest next morning when the bank opened. The vet refused. The owner feeling overwhelmed, helpless, angry and very upset about his poor dog, walked out, and told them to put Rumble down and ran out leaving Rumble. The vet called the SPCA and reported this as some form of negligence on the owners part! The SPCA called the family who were fully distressed over Rumble. I believe the SPCA is aware of the money grubbing practice of the Granville Island Veterinary Hospital and called around for some help. Granville Island Veterinary Hospital did not humanely evaluate the unusual circumstances and the poor dog nearly died from THEIR neglect and greed. Granville Island Vet will rip you off!!!! Click to report rating    12/23/11   5     5     5     5   We recently moved to Vancouver with two elderly dogs. Both have had numerous medical issues and I have had experience with both routine and emergency situations at this vet. I could not recommend them more highly. The staff is without exception kind and compassionate and they have provided excellent care for our dogs. Recently we had an emergency situation late in the evening. Dr Wallace felt that our dog should be at the emergency clinic supervised by a veterinarian throughout the night. She contacted the clinic on our behalf, walked us across the street and met with the vet to ensure that he had all of the information necessary for her care. The next day we had to move her to the critical care unit. Dr. Wallace called me throughout the day for progress reports and very kindly helped me to make the necessary decisions. She called in the days following to see how we were. I cannot imagine how much more difficult this would have been without her help. RID: 30043

10/25/11   5     5     4     5   this clinic has taken care of our wheaton terrier for 7yrs and we have always received excellant care. we never feel like we are being upsold on non necessary treatment and medication. RID: 28584
Click to report rating    10/22/11   5     5     5     5   I recently had Dr. Clark of the Granville Island Pet Hospital examine my six year old multi-poo's teeth after being told by my vet that he needed his teeth cleaned for a third time in his six years. Because of the risk of general anesthetic and the cost, I wanted a second opinion. During Dr. Clark's physical examination he was able to dislodge the surface plaque with his fingernail and prescribed regular teeth brushing. This saved my little guy from going under the general anesthetic unnecessarily and saved me a lot of money. I am most impressed with Dr. Clark's professionalism, honesty and follow up. I highly recommend anyone who cares deeply for their pet to see Dr. Clark. T. Mitchell RID: 28509
8/26/11   5     4     4     5   Quality and service have a price. SO yes they might not be the cheapest in town, but they never pushed me to do useless tests (I even had to insist to get some blood work done). They are very professional and very human. I really recommend Granvilel ISland Hospital. RID: 27185
Click to report rating    12/17/10   3     3     3     1   This hospital is out for your money rather than your pets health. We spent 2500.00 and got NO ANSWERS. "It's a mystery" is all they could tell me. Test after test after test. Including x Rays which were completely unnecessary. I then went to another vet who could tell me exactly what was going on. RID: 21454
Click to report rating    8/29/10   1     5     4     1   They gouge you at every turn, repeatedly encouraging you to buy this (very expensive) bottle of food supplement for loose stools, that bottle of ear wash, etc. It gets ridiculous after a while. They also over-treat: My dog was scheduled for a spay but had vomited the night before (she had apparently eaten a kid's sock the day before) so surgery was delayed but the vet said "we should see her anyway and run some tests." For a lab puppy who eats everything in sight! After one vomiting episode. When she was spayed, the pre-surgical exam was so cursory they didn't check the tumor on her nose which now turns out to be cancer. They demanded an overnight stay for the spay, which very few vets do.The tests for the tumor came back more than two weeks late but the vet refused to call the lab and ask about the delay. As for expense: the estimate on the surgery was 40 percent more than the estimate we got from the vet who actually did the surgery, a man who is now our regular vet. Stay away. RID: 19472
Click to report rating    7/24/10   2     3     4     2   For my new kitten, I wanted a long term vet, available for urgent situations, so I specifically asked about this. Their material + signs said they dealt with "emergencies" and staff said they make every effort to deal with urgent needs of regular clients. So I took my cat for regular check ups + shots. She broke her paw and got a splint. A week later, she fell out of a 2nd floor window. I was very upset and took her right away to the vet. The staff asked if I had an appt. I said no. They said they were too busy. No attempt at triage. They didn't ask any questions or look at her. I had to have her treated elsewhere. When I told my concerns, they emailed back they were removing all reference to "emergency" in their material-but repeated that they help patients they have a relationship with. There was no apology. I emailed back more fully explaining my concerns. No response. Like others posting here, my sense is this place is interested in financial gain-getting clients, not keeping them. RID: 18932
Click to report rating    6/14/10   4     5     5     2   Very clean facility and very caring staff. I am not sure whether they are more expensive than other vet clinics. My cats have received excellent care and the vets take time to explain otions. RID: 18379
Click to report rating    7/16/09   5     5     4     4   Having 24 care for my fur-mily is extremly important and being able to call any time day or night was a blessing. Dr Bill is the best in the business with DR Adams a close second. I would never take my cats any where else. Yes they may be $$$$ but they are worth every penny!! RID: 13501
Click to report rating    7/14/09   2     5     2     1   The facilities is very nice and fancy so nothing to complain about there. I've seen two vets there : Dr. Adams and Dr. Huggins. They seem to be really nice but however it does seem a bit fake to me. Something about the atmosphere. Their prices are ridiculous. I was given a quote to get my puppy spayed and it was over $400. Neatherless to say I've been shopping around for a good vet, not easy but after 3 different vets I think I found a place I can trust that will truly care for my pets. Not that cheap but definitely a vet not in it for all the money. RID: 13490
11/26/08   1     1     2     1   NO NO NO. This place is ridiculous. As others say, they scare you into spending money. A simple spay/neuter costs over $200. I went in there asking about a rabbit neuter, they told me they would have to charge several hundred dollars to cover the costs of bringing in extra equipment that they did not know how to use, and none of them had ever operated on a rabbit before. Yet they tried to convince me that they were the best place to do it. I have NO DOUBT that they would have killed my animal, no vet in any good conscience would perform a procedure they had never done before on someone's loved pet. If this place only handles cats and dogs they should state so. I know dog owners that raved about this place, and all it took was a rotten experience to find out what I feel now. This place is all just for show- if you stay long enough you will see what they are really like! NO NO NO. Take your loved pet and money somewhere where the vets don't lie and won't place the animal at risk! RID: 10713
Click to report rating    10/29/08   3     5     4     1   The staff is nice, however I swear the doctors are only out to make money for the place. They do completely un-neccessary procedures and tests, which are expensive and they charge for every little tiny thing. A normal check-up will never be just the check-up price. They made me fear taking my dog to the vet. Once I took my dog in as she had a small lump on her chest. The doctor that saw her, a new one in the clinic, told me it was nothing, it would go away. about 2 hours later one of the regular doctors called me, telling me she had looked at the chart and that it was probably a cancerous tumour which must be removed immedietly-next morning at 8 am, no time for a second opinion. Well, the fear of this made me bring in my girl, where they butchered her with an 8 inch insicion and charged me $2800. It was not a cancer tumour, it was nothing. Beware of procedures/tests they insist must be done because most likely they do not have to be. They are only out for money and they overcharge. RID: 10408
Click to report rating    3/19/08   4     5     4     1   Granville Island is probably the most high-profile vet in Vancouver. They have modern facilities and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The level of care for your animal is excellent. However, I agree with others that they do seem to favour surgical options, and their pricing is very high compared to other animal hospitals. Always get a second opinion before surgery on your pet. RID: 7764
Click to report rating    9/10/07   5     5     5     5   The best darn veterinarians in the city! The overnight care is essential to any of my animals staying overnight anywhere, especially if they are sick. I feel well cared for and my pets do too!! RID: 5870
Click to report rating    5/9/07   1     5     3     1   These people play on the fear and love you have for your animals. They kept our cat alive with pills and treatments when it shoudl have been put down long ago. They charged us alot of money for something that should have never been done. RID: 3840
Click to report rating    4/6/07   5     5     5     5   I've find their diagnostic skills to be fast and, more importantly, accurate. My pets are treated with compassion and respect. RID: 3321
Click to report rating    1/30/07   5     5     4     5   They have a nurse that stays overnight all night with the pets to make sure they are okay, which is really important to me. RID: 2311
