We took our dog here because our usual vet clinic had no available appointments. We saw Dr. Douglas, who was mindful of providing excellent care, but not over-treating. My dog's ears were painful and we initially struggled to get him to hold still for evaluation and treatment, but their assistant Diana was amazing, and she was able to hold my dog so everything could be done. She also picked up that another dog that came in while we were waiting needed immediate care and she did appropriate triage. For my dog, the vet even came out to show me the microscope slide images of the ear swabs showing yeast and bacteria. I felt like my dog was very well cared for, and that the treatment and options were clearly and properly explained. My experience with them was that they were thorough and caring and I will bring both my dogs here again.

Did NOT like the form they gave me asked me to choose which type of care level I would agree to pay for my dog. Right from the start it felt like they were checking to see how deep my pockets were. I was there because they had better hours than my regular vet. I paid more there for just a visit and no answers that I did when I brought my dog to our regular vet who then treated my dog.

Brought my 9 week old puppy here for broken leg. They saw us immediately, gave us options, provided clear, concise information and cared for our puppy like it was their own. Their follow up was amazing and we felt we could ask any questions, anytime, day or night. Staff from front reception to vet techs and veterinarians all first rate. Highly recommend this hospital.

My cat had a bump on his side and bloody diarrhea. The vet said the diarrhea and the blood were nothing to worry about, and the bump was just a scratch, but prescribed anti-diarrheic, a probiotic, and antibiotics. So I asked shouldn't I just let the diarrhea run its course? Looking irritated she said at least get the probiotic because the antibiotics cause diarrhea. I didn't want antibiotics for a scratch but felt pressured. She tried to push their cat food, but it had four times the ingredients as the one I use. They gave two weeks’ worth of antibiotics, I asked if it was excessive. Annoyed the receptionist said he'll be resistant if I don’t get the full dose - unnecessary antibiotics causes that. I used polysporin and the next day brought them back. The snooty receptionist tried to keep the dispensing fees yet I never even wanted them. A vet that has your pet’s health in mind wouldn't push drugs on a healthy pet. This was the second time the vet tried to push unnecessary drugs on me.

After having a brush with a bad vet (Blue Cross) we decided to bring our dog here. Dr. Megan Jones is the most helpful vet we have come into contact with. She answered all of our questions and she was confident about her diagnoses with our puppy. She never uttered the words "Uh, um, I don't know, don't worry about it" to us. The staff at OAH are wonderful, kind and helpful. They helped answered a lot of questions we had as well. Great service, great clinic, great staff. Overall the environment was awesome. I will definitely bring my animals back to see Dr. Megan Jones.

The technicians have always been very kind to us when we were there with our sick cat, but the vets themselves seemed very annoyed and frustrated with the fact that they had to actually do something. I found it very difficult to understand what the vets were saying, and on one day, I left the clinic in hysterics because I thought the vet told me I had to let my cat die. Fortunately, that was a language misunderstanding, but this same vet was very cold and lacked any discernible bedside manner. Our cat was absolutely terrified, which was not how he behaved when he had life-saving surgery at another hospital. Our cat was not treated well there, and we made the (right) decision to remove him once he was stable and took him to a much better hospital, where he was calm and received much better treatment from more knowledgeable and compassionate vets. The front end staff were really quite sweet though.

I took my little dog here when I was visiting Vancouver. She was just a puppy. She had been throwing up with runny stools. This Dr. did every test in the book, did X-rays, kept her overnight on Meds. When I got her back home - the vet told me it was all nonsense. The XRay was a complete waste due her being a puppy and she was seriously dehydrated. Terrible care, only interested in the cash.

I really thought that they were all about the money! Very overpriced. I was twice told wrong info about my cat -luckily I know enough about cats to know it was incorrect. Another time the receptionist lied to me about why my cat had to wait an hour before I could take her home. (it had to do with an error the tech had made)

Judy and I were shocked to read that someone had been making public comments criticising the staff at the Oak Animal Hospital. We have been involved with Oak Animal for more than 7 years. We have two cats and a dog who have been very well cared for by the doctors and staff. We appreciate the regular contact calls and especially the follow up calls after one of the animals has received treatment. The atmosphere in the hospital is always friendly and caring and we have recommended your services to several friends.
Keep up the excellent work you do

I went to this vet for 5 years before realizing that the vet is horrible. He scammed us on 2 occasions and my friend, who alo goes there, also got scammed. Their only solution to any problem is to run these really expensive tests and take days to perform so you need to pay for baord as well. Second time I got scammed, I took my dog there because he wasn't eating his kibble. The vet ran tests for a week. In the end, I solved my dog's problem by buying his soft dog food (because his teeth were giving away). I didn;t need $3000 tests and board before I figured out the problem fo myself.

For 7 yrs & counting, I have sought w/complete confidence the expertise & kindness of Dr. D @ OAH, despite the fact that getting to OAH from where I live is a bit of a haul. I’d alternately relied on a local vet facility which I soon left in disillusionment in favor of Dr. D & his inconvenient location; he treats each animal as an individual & is keenly aware of atypical symptoms that might require add’l, unique or NO treatment. He is patient & will listen to all questions. He does not believe in unnecessary or over-medicating & is very tuned-into the emotional state of the pet ‘parents’ he sees. In his outside life he has minimal time for anything other than veterinary medicine which he studies continually to stay abreast of cutting-edge diagnostic & treatment technology—not so he can charge more for his svces but so he can be a better practitioner with more knowledge to save more lives. OAH is a 7-days/wk standard vet practice that also functions as an animal emerg call ctr 24/7

I am so please with the service i recieved from the whole hospital, they diagnosed my dog with bladder stones via ultrasound and he was treated that same day. The vet i went to before just gave him medication and the problem didnt go away. I wish my doctor provided same day ultrasound and treatment.

I am a new dog owner and don't have too much experience with many vets. i went to this one due to proximity, but I dont go there any more, I dont trust him. Even for a simple problem with my dog (he was constipated) the vet suggested all sorts of tests, xrays, blood work. in the end it took 2$ worth of laxatives to fix the problem, but not before he parted me with 300$ of my money. I feel he is always trying to push something, expensive foods, over the top testing, or expensive procedures (does teeth descaling really cost 500$). On the plus side, the facility seemed ok, recpetionist was nice, and i never had to wait long at all.

I had my rabbit neutered by this vet after they said that they were able to treat exotics. The vet did a great job on the neuter, but the girls that examined my rabbit were terrible. My rabbit was frantic when he was picked up, they were holding him incorrectly and were un confident. They told me I should be holding him every day and get him used to it. If the girls understood rabbits they would have known that as a prey animal, rabbits typically hate being held. During the exam they also missed the fact that he was completely blind in one eye. This was found within minutes of taking my rabbit to a different vet and accounts to some degree as to why my rabbit panics when picked up.

A very dreadful and VERY expensive vet. Told us our dog had bladder stones. Despite plenty of costly tests, he operated and there were none there!! In a three month period we spent $6000. only to have our dog die of cancer. Our other dog was given a bunch of tests for $350. and for ANOTHER $500. we could have her checked out even more. Meedless to say, our remaining poodle is fit as a fiddle 2 1/2 years later. They were masters at oversales. My husband said the vets must have all taken marketing courses!!

I moved to Vancouver a few years ago and I've had a few bad experiences with different vet's here so I called around and visited a few different hospitals before I decided to go with this one. I have never had anything but excellent service and treatment from everyone at this hospital.

I took my dog here on a referral from another vet, because he needed an ultrasound, and my vet did not have the equipment required to perform one. We waited 1.5hrs (first thing in the morning, pre scheduled apt) for the vet to show up at his clinic! The staff were friendly and sweet during this time, but my dog was very sick, and waiting for that long was hard on both of us. After the exam, I felt that the vet used FAR too many technical terms which I found very difficult to comprehend, (but basically he had told me that my dog was going to die)...All of this, interjected with his sales pitches trying to sell me dog food, various vitamins, and further medical procedures, was completely overwhelming. This 30 minute long ultrasound visit cost me well over $500, and my beloved dog passed away (5 days following this visit) from an inoperable tumour on his liver. I wouldn't recommend this veterinarian, not at all!

our cat got blocked from having crystals and i called them a couple minutes before they were closing and the vet and assistants waited for me to arrive and stayed after hours to help my kitty. they were really understanding about the costs and often check up on us to make sure he's doing well. he's never had any problems since. the girls are always very friendly and helpful and the vet was very patient with all our questions. i think their prices are fair. you get what you pay for.

I liked these guys back around 2002 when I first started bringing my dog there, but now every time I go, I feel like they're pushing so many medications, tests and foods on me that I don't know what my dog really needs and what is just them trying to make a buck. Staff are nice and all, but I can't trust them any more. I'm done there. Looking for another vet right now.

Brought my puppy in for shots. Hard to communicate with the vet.. the assistants were nice, but the vet seem to be pushing with all the medication and whatnot. Had trouble understanding what the vet is saying. Puppy was very scare of the vet; vet didnt spend time to "say hi" to my little puppy. Puppy was fine with assistants since they are nicer

Only brought our puppy here once but I felt like they were trying to push EVERYTHING on us... as many shots as they could get us to give our dog. They also didn't know whether the shots had mercury in them.
They even gave us a free bag of dog food because they wanted to get the extra income out of us I guess... the dog food had corn listed before meat so we never even cracked the bag open. We never went back.

Our dog was hit by a car and this was the closest vet. I entered their shop about two minutes after they closed, while all the staff was there, but they still charged me full after hours rates. Our dog was still not doing well, so the next day we took her to our regular vet. They found two large gashes under the fur, one four inches long, that Oak Animal Hospital missed. Avoid these people. My opinion is that these people are the used car dealers of the vet world.
