Click to report rating    8/3/19   5     5     5     5   Thank you to Dr. Erin and staff for looking after a very ill Cockatiel. The professional and kindness displayed will always be remembered. RID: 68431
Click to report rating    8/21/18   3     4     4     3   I will be finding a new vet for my next pet. I noticed there seems to be a high turn over rate in veterinary staff, so the continuity in care my cat received was disjointed. New vets didn’t know the history of my cat(s) and when I brought my cat back two weeks later the vet didn’t even remember me. Wanted to charge $25 me to bring her in for regular sub-q fluids, which is something I can easily administer at home simply by giving me refresher lesson and supplies. RID: 66685
Click to report rating    12/16/17   1     1     1     1   took my hamster in for upper teeth trimming. when i was there the experience felt like it was great but after 2 weeks i noticed my hamster still completely unable to eat solid food his teeth still too long. I called in to discuss with the clinic and was told "if you cant afford your hamster give him up to the humane society". I will say this right now having paid $230 i expect the issue to be solved i mean i paid for a teeth trim so my hamster could eat & still cant? I didn't call in saying i wouldn't pay a cent to have it fully fixed i called back in to work something out so my hamster may have a good life. at this point i am not coming back to this clinic for any of my pets. this treatment at the price point is ridiculous I expected better than what i got from that receptionist.----Final note: paid for teeth trimming, teeth were not trimmed anywhere near enough. Paid twice the price i would have if i had just gone to the vet the Guelph emergency staff recommended instead. RID: 65217

10/27/15   1     1     1     1   Worst vet clinic ever. They kept brushing off our concerns about our cat. He ended up with crystals in his bladder which was diagnosed at an emergency clinic in the middle of the night. We took him back to Amherst the day after that. He caught a secondary infection there. Between the emerg clinic and Amherst that cost us $2000. They put him on a special diet you could only buy there & low and behold he got the same problem. Another $500. They ignored our concerns about his rather large & sensitive stomach. We moved to another clinic but we were too late. My cat had a very large tumour that had blocked off his arteries & took over his liver. Our new vet tried in vain to save his life but he died during the operation. Had they actually run tests in the 4 yrs that we asked it would have been caught in time & he could have been saved. DO NOT USE THIS CLINIC. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY AND NOT YOUR PETS. RID: 58812

3/23/13   5     4     4     5   I have nothing but positive things to say about this clinic. The staff was wonderful. The vet was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me. The prices seemed fair, and nothing was forced on me, I don't have a lot of money so the vet helped me decide on which tests were absolutely necessary. My bird is well now thanks to them.  2/13/13   1     1     3     1   My parrot had his beak and nails trimmed at this clinic. I should say that my issue is not with the treating doctor (who is no longer there) as he was the only one to provide proper response. The beak trim caused my bird pain. When I called, only other doctors were available who did absolutely nothing. I ended up in an emergency hospital which completed a full exam and blood work. Even after reading reports on the beak trim and seeing normal blood results from the other hospital they could not figure out the issue and were not competant enough to prescribe pain medication. Only asked if new people are in the house that stress the bird?!? Hes fine now (after pain meds). My only reason for writing this is to help other pet owners.Staff seems nice when its time to take your money but be prepared for lack of compassion, rudeness, un professionalism, and overall incompetence if something goes wrong. Please save yourself stress and money. Save your pet suffering. Pay more and go elswhere. RID: 40395

1/25/13   1     1     1     1   I agree with you, they are money hungry. I have gone there many times with my dog and they couldn't say really what was wrong with him. They gave me 4 different medications for my dog all suggested by many different vets, everytime i went there, i was seeing a new vet with a new analysis, they didn't seem well versed, it was like they were straight out of school - i felt like my Baldwin was a guinea pig, only to find out much later when visiting another clinic that none of these should have been prescribed. Now months later, my dog is dead and had a very painful demise. RID: 39926

12/28/12   3     3     2     2   Not helpful at all. My poor bird of 6 years was sick, they could not diagnose him with ANYTHING after 3 visits and they tested him for so many different things and gave him 3 different types if medicine. In the end nothing helped and he got worse and eventually died...I would NOT reccommend this place at all. They overcharged me for services I told them I didn't want to do RID: 39269

Click to report rating    1/24/12   5     5     5     4   Took my guinea pig because he was having balance issues. He was able to be seen within an hour of calling to make an appointment, and the staff was kind, courteous, and knowledgeable. They were also able to accommodate my financial situation. Hours later, I received a call from them to make sure my guinea pig was okay now that he was back at home. I've never had such a great experience with a vet's office before. I would recommend Amherst to anyone with small pets/exotics for sure. RID: 31760
Click to report rating    12/20/11   1     1     1     1   DON'T EVER GO HERE. The vet couldn't even tell my hamster was a FEMALE not male and FORCED options rather than encouraging them. NEVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. BAD SERVICE. RUSHED. Vet was completely RUDE. Horrible job on euthanasia, pet will be SQUISHED. (my hamster had stains where her eyes were on the given towel. Her eyes are also looked squished and various parts of her body) They do not check your pet properly, if they're sick, they FORCE euthanasia rather than attempt to help. Just save your money and don't go here! Find another vet! These guys are MONEY HUNGRY! Dr.Merryn, or whatever she is, is completely heartless! RID: 29986
Click to report rating    6/13/10   5     5     4     5   I have taken my Goffin cockatoo there many times & have found them careing, helpfull and very informed with my Parrot. I called one afternoon being paranoid seeing as we had only had him 4mth and they told me to bring him in right away, took us right in, weighed him, explained a few things to me untill I was saticfied. I appoligized for being over parnoid, went on my merry way and they happiley told me not to worrie if I had any questions or concerns please call and they will help as best as possible.I take my Cockatoo there every time he needs his wings, beak and nails trimmed, they have always been very gentle with him. I have tried three other places and did not like the way they handled him nore were they as informative and they were money hungry. I will take my parrot to Amhurst for as long as they are open or Joey is with this world. Thanks Amhurst. RID: 18358
Click to report rating    2/20/10   5     4     4     4   I brought my three rabbits here up until my last bunny passed away. The staff were sweet and the vets are knowledgeable. Even so, I will not come back in the future because of what one of the vets put me through the day my last bunny was put down (was nine years old and had e.cuniculi). That day a new vet or vet tech was following my usual vet around to learn I suppose. She was the one put in charge by my usual vet to put down my bunny. After 2 hours, dragging on a already painful process, she eventually comes in to give her the two shots. The first one was to put my bunny to sleep, she did not fall asleep... she came back in and gave her another dose of the first shot. Then later the second one. I did NOT need the experience to be more depressing than it is and it was unfair of them to have done this to my bunny or me. So, I have good things to say about them but I hope this does not happen to people in the future. RID: 16693
Click to report rating    12/24/09   4     4     3     5   I take my guinea pigs there and I'm nothing but happy with the care they provide for them. Dr. Luckwaldt and Dr. McInich are great with small animals. RID: 15872
Click to report rating    6/6/09   5     5     5     4   I have many exotic animals and Dr. Luckwaldt came recommended to me. I have nothing but good things to say about both Dr Luckwaldt and Dr. McInnich. They have been great with my ferrets, dog, and chinchilla. My chinchilla had an accident and both drs worked fast and together to fix my chinchillas leg. I could not be more grateful for their expertise in the area of exotics. THey were amazing with answering all my questions and the vets personally call you if you have concerns or regarding test results. The doctors are very knowlegable. What I found great about them my first time there was that they will not sell you things you do not need like many vets will they are honest about what your pet needs and doesnt need. RID: 13081
Click to report rating    3/12/09   1     3     2     2   i don't know what this place is like now, but years ago the staff was rude, you had to wait over 30 minutes to be seen, there were so many doctors i was confused on who was seeing me. they did take my bird in an emergency situation though, so i have to give props for that. but that is it. RID: 12084
Click to report rating    11/10/07   5     4     4     4   They are very knowledgable in rabbits and small pocket pets. Would very highly recommend them. RID: 6416
Click to report rating    1/30/07   5     5     3     3   I have switched over to this vet & have nothing but good things to say. I highly recommend them. They really know what they are doing. I live in Pickering but travel to Scarborough to make sure my animals are treated by someone who knows what they are doing. I have taken my rabbits & hamster there. RID: 2304
