1/9/19   5     5     4     5   Bringing a pet to the vet requires active participation on the part of the pet parent. Too often decisions are left up to the vet who will cover all ground necessary for the proper diagnosis of your fur child(and rightfully so). You cannot leave a pet at the vet and simply say "fix this" and be surprised at the cost. BE INVOLVED. ASK QUESTIONS. After opening a dialogue with your vet, make your OWN decisions. I have been coming to Smith Veterinary for over 30 years with my fur kids and have always been given options, estimates and all the time needed for questions etc. Even when I have been in panic mode over my pet I have never been coerced into unwanted services. Pet parents need to remember to speak up, ask questions and ultimately make their own decisions. RID: 67208

10/21/18   5     5     5     5   After a traumatic experience at another vet clinic, Dr. Cox and this clinic were recommended to me for which I am forever grateful. Dr. Cox repaired the dental damage done to my senior cat at a more than reasonable cost. Since then, I have brought my other cats here (I rescue and foster) for dental and medical procedures and everyone from the front desk staff, to the vet techs and especially Dr. Cox and Dr Herzog, have been exceptional, going above and beyond in the care of my fur-kids. Two thumbs up! RID: 66934

5/23/17   2     4     2     2   We brought our dog here because they were sick and it was closer than their regular vet. I echo one of the other reviews about billing: they ordered several tests, and then more tests - exploratory surgery was also recommended at one point - for what appears to have been a minor infection. They also DEMANDED payment even though the dog's case wasn't closed, but provided no invoice, indication, etc. of what I was actually paying for. I feel duped and incredibly disappointed with the overall experience. RID: 63708
Click to report rating    4/8/17   5     5     5     5   We have been bringing our dog to Smith since 2005. The entire staff (including the groomer) is absolutely fantastic. They have always gone above and beyond to care for our little fur baby. I can not think of any other vet I would rather have. Dr Cox and staff are the BEST. RID: 63284
Click to report rating    7/27/16   5     5     5     5   Dr Dana is the most humble and kind person I have ever met! She is intelligent, thorough and always keeps you calm with her warmth, compassion and understanding. I brought my little girl to Smith because she was about to go through a very abrasive procedure with my previous vet. Dr Dana made my little Roxie all better after years of sickness. I truly believe Dana is an angel! She explains everything in terms that can be understood and gives me 110% confidence that my baby is in good hands. Every visit to Smith is a wonderful experience. The staff is out of this world! Erica that shows friendliness and top notch customer service, Amanda that keeps calmness and has an amazing vibe and Monique who smooches my baby and brushes each visit with complete warmth....that is just to name a few of the wonderful people that work at Smith! They have become our family and I would never trust anyone else! And....to the people that have giveng Smith a bad review, I suggest you look in the mirro RID: 61213
Click to report rating    7/13/16   5     5     5     5   This is the first time using this vet as I have not been pleased with my past vet as there were always random vets for his visits. No continuity and rushed visits. Smith Vet was an absolutely different experience. Dr. Sean Herzog was incredible in the time he spent with us and his compassion for my cat. My cat was so at ease (it was amazing). Everything was explained and the staff was very supportive in showing how to administer parasite protection. I overwhelmingly endorse this vet and his staff. I will be returning 100%. RID: 61097
Click to report rating    1/17/16   5     5     5     5   I have been coming to Smith vet since the clinic was owned by Dr. Smith. I have read some of the comments and can't believe that you people feel this way. They are an amazing caring and loving group of vets techs and staff. the prices are good and the treatment of our fur kids have been wonderful.I wouldn't care my pets anywhere else. Maybe the reason that you are not having a good experience with the clinic is that you are trying to diagnose the issues on the computer yourselves instead of listening and asking questions from the people that are experienced. Just a thought... Thank you Dr Cox and Dr Sean... and thank you to all that work here you're amazing. RID: 59521
Click to report rating    3/2/15   1     1     2     1   As a first time dog owner, I think it is safe to say that ensuring you choose a great vet is quintessential. As a first time owner there are many things to learn and you put great trust in your vet to offer the best possible care... My first visit at Smith Vet went well and I was pretty confident with my choice. What happened next is DISGUSTING & PATHETIC!! I was given a standard Deworming Tablet to give to my puppy. After looking at the packaging in closer detail I discovered that the Tablet was EXPIRED & THE WRONG DOSE (MG's). As a concerned first time dog owner, I called the vet in a panic. They were quick to offer a credit for the price of the pill ($7.00). I then received a call from the "Office Mgr" who informed me that they will no longer welcome me & my dog to the clinic as I was "rude" to the receptionist. Is this place for real?!?!?! Please, don't invest in a vet that will fire its clients when they screw up. RID: 56097
Click to report rating    7/5/14   4     5     4     4   I find the services were pretty good here...especially the annual medical check for my feline baby...seemed quite thorough. The associate vets seemed to change frequently, some of them were great, others not so much. Dr Cox is the mainstay, and she's pretty good. When my baby got really sick and then passed away, the staff there were quite helpful (except for one associate vet who is no longer there). I got follow up phone calls even after office hours from one particular vet, Dr J Drooker (who is no longer at the clinic, I believe he moved to Montreal). I did find the prices to be higher than other clinics. I moved away from Toronto, but if I ever moved back, I'd bring my feline boys to this clinic again. RID: 52421
Click to report rating    5/2/14   5     5     5     5   I brought my dog in about 2 mths ago for a second opinion and hoping to get rid of her ailment. The staff was excellent and genuinely interested and concerned about my dog. They reviewed lab results from my vet. She was examined from head to toe and the vet thoroughly explained her diagnosis, treatment and follow up. The treatment she recommended saved me spending $2500+ on further testing which she felt was not necessary. Her diagnosis was right on and my dog's medication ensured she recovered quickly. Several check up calls were made by the vet to see how she was progressing. Costs involved were reasonable. Overall a very pleasurable experience. So much so that I'm contemplating changing vets! Click to report rating    4/28/14   5     5     5     5   I've been a client here for years. I wouldn't trust anyone but these people with my fur children. Best staff and Doctors that you could ask for. Straight forward and very fair prices. They don't push for anything that isn't needed. GREAT PLACE !! RID: 51283

9/26/13   1     1     1     1   This is the worst clinic. All they are interested in is billing and will do as many tests as possible, just so they can charge. I took my dog to the clinic for his entire life, as I thought that it was best for him to have consistency. I thought it was the best decision for my dog but I was wrong. I wish I had changed clinics much sooner. In the end, they didn’t even have the decency to express condolences on his loss. And I am so grateful that he spent his last visit for his final rest at a much more caring and considerate veterinary clinic. Do yourself a favour, and stay away from that horrible place. RID: 47228
Click to report rating    3/20/13   5     5     5     5   These guys have a great facility! I had a chance to do a tour before I commited to this place. Wonderful vet, she actually spoke with me the first time my puppy and I came in to the clinic to just take a look. Spent a lot of time with us, and since then, we are totally commited to staying with the hospital. Great staff too, the've been very very helpful. RID: 41192
Click to report rating    7/6/12   2     3     1     1   This clinic is expensive, and the service is poor. There is no rush to repeat prescriptions, even when necessary, as the doctor is often inaccessible. The clinic does a lot of selling rather than care. Associate vets are inexperienced. Would not recommend this clinic. RID: 35499
Click to report rating    12/17/11   2     2     1     1   The clinic is in a good location with parking. That's about the only good thing I can say about the hospital. Dr. Cox was once rude to her staff while I was in for an appointment. If she does that in front of me imagine what she does behind the scenes. No wonder there is a new receptionist or technician or even VET every time I go in. Prices are comparable to other hospitals in Toronto but I feel like I'm being sold things all the time. Overall, I think it's time for me to find a new clinic for my little guys. RID: 29929
Click to report rating    11/15/11   5     5     3     3   This vet clinic is very knowledgeable. The front staff are very friendly and willing to accomodate. Prices are comparable to other clinics in the area. I would definitely recommend this hospital to anybody who truly cares for their pets well being. RID: 29154
4/5/11   1     4     4     1   Smith vet clinic tried to charge $1500.00 for our new 3 year old cat's mouth extractions. We had our cat's mouth done at another clinic 2 weeks later. No teeth needed to be removed - cleaning only and the bill was $135.00. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone ever. On top of that they were rude and insulting. RID: 24135
Click to report rating    11/7/10   5     5     5     5   I Have been to many veterinary clinics and until i found smith veterinary, i really thought they were all the same. I find i always feel welcome. Their pricing is fair, comparing bills from the many places i have been they are in the lower price range and even have prices cheaper on certain things then some of the least costly vets in Toronto. For the care my animals receive i would be willing to pay more. The receptionist and techs are always organized but are able to remember every pet that comes in and give them lots of love and attention, which for a scared and sick animal--is vital. Dr. cox is one of the most professional vets i have spoken to in a long time, and is great at coming to a consensus on the best treatment for the animal and the owner. I could go on, but you get the point :):):):):) RID: 20697
Click to report rating    8/22/10   2     2     2     1   We used this Vet's office for almost 20 years while living in Toronto. Dr Smith was the very best but when he left the clinic went down hill. The costs escalated and care declined and we sometimes felt they wanted to do more tests than necessary . We spent mega dollars there on our many cats but many times they did not pin down the health problem and we had to make repeated visits. Felt like they were guessing sometimes. The front desk staff were inexperienced and sometimes downright rude. RID: 19347
Click to report rating    7/13/10   5     5     5     4   I have been using Smiths for years and always found them to be compassionate and helpful. Never had a bad experience and love that they are always willing to take the time to speak with me at length about my animals. Dr. Cox is an incredible vet who obviously cares about my little guys. The staff are always cheerful and helpful. Their prices seem to be in line with other hospitals. I am a big advocate of pain management and this is the only hospital I have found that is aware of and practices a high standard of preventive pain control. Everyone really seems to care and I would recommend them to anyone I know. RID: 18759
5/7/10   2     2     3     1   my dog came down with an auto immune condition where his body basically rejected his nails. all the vets there had no idea what it was. although rare, we figured it out ourselves online in a day - SLO. they thought it was some fungus infection on one nail. in addition to their lack of knowledge, at one point, they shaved a section of his hair for a needle, but shaved it way too close - so much so that a scab formed. i brought him back the next day and they wanted to charge me for the cream to treat the scab they inflicted. that was my last interaction with them. hear it was a lot better under dr smith. now - no medical knowledge, and money hungry. RID: 17841
Click to report rating    10/18/08   1     4     1     1   This used to be the best of the best. our pets were treated ROYALY by DR.SMITH himself and he was the most compationate vet u could have found. But this is a very far cry from what it used to be. The girls are in LA LA LAND. They are uncoopertive unaware of many remedies and take ur pet to the back to do bloodwork and tests, where u are not permitted. It now is a money orientated business and disrespect for a client that had gone to DR.SMITH with 3 dogs over 35 years...SAD ! RID: 10331
Click to report rating    7/13/08   3     2     4     3   I found the clinic to be a bit outdated. There were very bad rumours about the groomer who came in once a week (not sure if they still use the same one). Most of the staff was excellent, although there was one technician who was opinionated and rather unfriendly (amusingly more full of herself than the actual veterinarians...ah vet. tech's). I've since found better clinics and probably wouldn't go back to Smith. RID: 9290
Click to report rating    1/30/07   5     5     5     5   Very helpful. Amazing staff and great with bunnies. RID: 2344
