June 17th, my cat Gus was favoring his ear, so I took him to VCA All Creatures. I thought we were going to be seeing Dr. Miller, but instead it was Karen Baggett. She cleaned out some ear wax from his ears, checked his vitals, which were "really good," prescribed antibiotic ear drops and gave him a steroid shot. Monday his breathing was rapid. I rushed him to a 24 hour Animal Hospital; they did X-rays and tests. The vet said it was possible that the steroid shot triggered an underlying problem with his heart, causing heart failure and for his lungs to fill up with fluid. I took Gus to see Dr. Miller and she also said that it was possible that the steroid shot triggered a problem with his heart and that she wouldn’t have done that given his age, 13 years old. I took him to two more specialty Animal Hospitals. He was suffering, so I had to let him go. July 5th, I received a card from All Creatures, with a picture of a cat that looks like Gus, letting me know that they understand my loss.

When I first moved to OFallon my Collie needed to have her anal glands expressed and figured this was a good time to find new vet, I picked VCA. When the tech came to take my collie to the back she wouldn't go, so I started walking with her and stopped about half way since she was walking with him, but she turned around and seen me not with her and instead of the tech asking me to continue with her he "dragged" her to the back... I never went back to VCA after that! Also, I don't like not being in a room with my dog when anything is being done to her, just for this type of thing. You never really know how they are treated when they are out of your sight. I will never go to a VCA ever again...I changed to Cloud vet until they changed to a VCA and I changed vets, just for that reason that they are now a chain.

The staff has always been supportive and knowledgable. A special thanks to Dr. Gwen Bilyk who has been there for our family - many, many times. The technicians, Paula, Kelly, Nicole and all the others show a personal concern for our animals. The vets encourage client participation in the health of our pets. They want us to be involved and informed when we make decisions about our pets. Unlike so many "people" docs, the staff here appreciates that we ask questions, research on the internet and pass on what we learn. We have prompt response to our problems. When one of my larger dogs had to be rushed to the clinic and I could not get her out of my car because of her size and dead weight, Dr. Gwen herself ran out to my car to carry her in. The vets are not afraid to try new and/or unusual treatments or to recommend specialists, drug trials etc. The staff has taken care of my animals for nearly 15 years.
