I have to say, this was by far my most pleasant experience at a vet in my last 4 years as a dog owner. I have had some bad experiences with past vets and was looking for a new, local vet where I could take my two dogs. Dr. Geoff Toole is cheery, professional, and very reassuring to work with. He took great care of my dog Charlie who is normally pretty stressed out when she goes to the vet. She stayed calm and this was definitely her most enjoyable trip so far, haha. Liver treats and all!
Even though proper care for your dog/family member is absolutely priceless, this is the first time I have been to a vet where I didn't feel as though they were only there to empty my wallet. Dr. Toole cares about his clients and it shows. I will definitely be back again!

I have never experienced service so great and so helpful as I have here at Village Gate Animal Hospital. Dr. Toole and his team have been of great help to me and Jazzy, my dear cat. Jazzy is very sick and is struggling her life. I am completely shocked and devastated by knowing Jazzy's serious blood problem. I brought her to see Dr. Tooles suggested by my friend. Now she is at the hospital for about 4 days under the care of Dr. Tooles and his team. I am so impressed by Dr. Toole’s humanity, kindness, warm personality, and professional demeanor!!! His entire personality brings great credit to himself and this animal hospital. I know it is very difficult in saving Jazzy’s live but Dr. Tooles is giving his best to do so. Jazzy is so lucky and I am so grateful!

Dr T takes a little getting used to, he can be blunt and has a quirky sense of humour, but I like him. He is so completely dedicated to his patients, he works ALL the time. Seriously, the guy never takes a day off! I don't get the negative reviews here. I have never ever felt like I was being ripped off, on the contrary, Dr T has been very careful to lay out options, and never pushes unnecessary tests or procedures. He takes great care of my pets, explains everything fully, is always available, and I find Dr T to be the most honest vet I have been to. His staff is great too, very caring and cheerful!

Dr. Geoff Toole truly has a heart of gold and is so wonderful for myself and my dog, Sophie.
Sophie was hit by a car last week and we thought we were going to lose her - it was such a traumatic experience. He took her right away on a Sunday and was able to provide care right away.
Dr. Toole is so dedicated to the animals and families he helps. He found the best medication combination to keep Sophie as comfortable as possible, he checked on her multiple times during the day and night, and even offered her homemade food when she wasn't eating. I was encouraged to visit her as often as I could and met other animal parents who were also doing the same.
I truly believe that thanks to Dr. Toole Sophie is resting here beside me. I have never met another vet who is so dedicated to his patients.
Thanks again for your truly exceptional expertise.

Our pets have seen Dr. Toole for years. He isn't rude: he is very busy, he is very thorough, and his level of communication demands you have some knowledge of veterinary care (otherwise, he talks over your head). I find that he accepts approaches other than his preferred, if your knowledge and reasoning are sound. I like that in a vet. As for his costs, it really doesn't matter where you go in Toronto, vet costs are high. Why? Because office space and property tax is obscene in Toronto, and they need to make a living. I've seen Dr. Toole's car: it's a Ford Focus. If you think he's living "high on the hog", well, evidence would suggest he really is in it for the animals.

My dog has been going to Dr. Toole for the last 3+ years. Based on my experiences, I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Toole. He and his staff have been great to us and have treated us amazingly. He does what is right for the dog and does not do additional, unnecessary and expensive procedures where there is no need. He is EXTREMELY responsive and considerate. I feel lucky to have such a great vet for my shih-tzu.

I was a client here until a few months ago....the staff is terrible starting from when I called to make a simple vaccination appointment, I felt like I was inconveniencing the receptionist by calling, she was quick, depressing, and just uninterested, when I brought my dog in the girl who took a sample from my dog doused his neck in alcohol and it took FOUR tries while my dog sat calmly in the assistants hold....it was traumatizing to say the least, she said his vein was small, HE'S A LAB CROSS, it can't be THAT small...the vet was just rude and made me uncomfortable...the ONLY plus is it's open 7 days a week (the facilities show the wear and tear of this)...not worth the expensive bill!!

I would NOT recommend this vet. First of all you can never get an appt there when you need one. Would you like to wait 10 days if your dog is sick or injured? He's expensive and rude to boot. In the past he's hired other colleagues because he's busy and they never last there. I wonder why?? Not a good sign. I'd look elsewhere.

Our young cat was having some health issues regarding swollen mouth and ears. We took her to Village Gate and they ultimately dismissed her problems as an allergic reaction to "something" and that we would just have to deal with it. No suggestions were given for treatments or preventions. But in the process we spent a fortune as well as had to take the cat back and forth as the vet could not get a blood sample and tested her for fleas several time (even though she is an indoor cat and has been treated with a flea preventative medication before). We did not see Dr. Toole, we saw another vet on staff but she was clearly clueless. Since then the diagnosis as "allergies" has now been submitted to our pet insurance so any other issues our cat has our claims have been rejected as possibly a prior issue related to this diagnosis. We have found a new vet who has properly diagnosed our cat, she is on the right medication and is finally improving. Avoid Village Gate!

Dr. Toole is great. He doesn't talk to you with an "I know best, don't question me" attitude which I have encountered from other vets. In fact, he is quite willing to explain different options and pro and cons of various drugs/procedures, etc so that you can make an informed decision with his help. You can tell he is passionate about what he does and also very knowledgeable.

Dr Geoff Toole is a vet, and you can tell he loves animals. I brought my dog in for an eye infection (which was due to swimming) I told Dr Toole this however he proceeded to test my dog for all kinds of eye issues (corneal ulsers etc) I left with a $200+ bill for 15 min and was told that the infection was from swimming (Thanks for telling me something I already knew and charging me a fortune for it) I find him pricey but that comes with the neighborhood. I will likely be looking for another vet as he is a little to pricey for us. Spaying also cost $150+ more than most other vet clinics.

In 2003 I relocated to Toronto and had to find a new vet to help spay/neuter a family of feral kittens (they were living in my garage). I contacted several vets and decided to use Dr.Toole because of his candor and location. The feral cats received excellent care and the cost is reasonable for the service that was provided --- the clinic did give extra love/care to the feral kittens. The facilty is clean and the staff was friendly. Dr. Toole is thorough in explaining the procedures and everything that he had discussed was in-line with what the other specialist recommended. I make it a point to do thorough fact-finding search before I vist any vet, as this helps me understand my animals conditions and what medical procedures being recommended is accurate. I am confident with Dr. Toole's vet skills and his ability to problem-solve and help my cats. Thank you.

Dr. Toole and his staff are fantastic! They have wonderful facilities, and Drs. Toole, Valdmanis & Goldman exhibit compassion along with first-rate up-to-date knowledge. The prices are a bit high, but given the care provided, I'm willing to pay for the good service.

I've been taking my two cats to Dr. Toole since this hospital opened (nearly 7 years ago). I find him and his staff very helpful, the clinic is well-kept, and the hours are flexible. In terms of charges, they are about in line with other vets in the neighbourhood (and I don't necessarily want to go to the CHEAPEST vet around...); I think the value for money is excellent. Dr. Toole has always explained each test or shot, and will answer questions fully. He's recently taken on two more vets to help out and they both seem good too. In short, I'm very happy with the service we get there.

I have brought my pets to this veterinarian a number of times and have often felt like I was being ripped off. During exams, there have been a number of times where tests would be done, without so much as an explanation as to why or an outline of the costs involved, only to be side swiped with a huge bill in the end! While I do not mind paying for NECESSARY tests or procedures for my pets, many times I have felt that they were NOT and more importantly that the costs were not justified at all. The costs of certain straight forward exams is quite unreasonable, outrageous and borderline abusive. I have compared prices with another vet and this only strengthens my belief that this vet will take advantage of anyone he can pump money out of who is gullible enough(unfortunately like me!)to believe what he is doing is absolutely necessary. I find him sneaky and that is why I will not be returning. I will take my business elsewhere to a place that is more reasonable, and honest.

I found this site by accident and thrilled that I did. Sure he has his "burnt out days" like everyone else, but he is the most dedicated vet I know. He always returns phone calls, sometimes immediately - will accomodate an emergency if he can - compassionate, caring, intelligent and will work with the client to provide the best care possible for your pet. Staff is respectful and genuine. Above all he is honest and doesn't push any unnecessary procedures. Please don't spread this "vet" around - would like to keep this hidden gem a secret :)

Not one bad thing to say about this clinic. Dr.Toole was recommend to me by a FEW people. He has been excellent to deal with so far and even gave me a tour of the hospital TOP-BOTTOM on my first visit. I had just rescued my dog who was terrified of men and she was very comfortable with Dr.Toole. The receptionist spent time on the phone with me and answered all my questions (and there were many) before I was even a client there. I especially like the fact that the hours are flexible and he can deal with emergencies after hours and do house calls. The clinic is clean and the appointments are on time. I wholeheartedly recommend this clinic.

I've been with Village Gate and Dr. Toole since they opened a few years ago. Am very happy with the care my cats get and think the rates very reasonable. The atmosphere is welcoming, Dr. Toole takes the time to explain everything to you, and their hours are very accommodating (they also make house calls). Highly recommend them!

Great vet. Caring, available, easy to get along with, easy to get appt with, even afterhours. Geoff is friendly and nice. Sometimes find that a little pricey but then went to another vet and found rates are reasonable. Often does not charge for nail clippings or examinations when there are mutual pets or mutual visits for same issue. Staff are friendly. We have boarded animals there and they kept in touch via email while we were on vacation. We left this vet due to a move but plan to make the trek to the other side of the city as they provide such good care.

Took my cat into another vet (won't name the place) and was entirely unsatisfied. Instead, took her over to Village Gate and was surprised at their collective compassion and good will. You can often tell how a place is run by the demeanor of the staff. At the former vet's place, the staff looked harried and burnt out. Here, it was MUCH different - all were friendly, helpful and glad to help. I HIGHLY recommend this place. One other thing: they are not about the money (like the former vet). They're about your pet's health. It's a beautiful place - can't say enough about it. I was so glad to take Muffin there (she's my cat) as she was well-treated and looked after.

I have 3 cats & 2 pugs Geoff is wonderful he has taken us late at night for emergency sickness I find he is reasonably priced. A lot of vets charge to cut dogs & cats nails he does not charge my previous vet used to charge me $23 to cut my cat nails. He has extracted one of my pugs cracked tooth on a sunday due to being an emergency he is a dedicated wonderful person who devotes his life to animal well being he sacrifices his own social life so that he is available for the animals.I will keep this vet for a long long time.

Very wonderful hospital. The doctor and staff are truely dedicated to animal health and wellness. He even lives above the hospital. He has helped me and my dog countless times. Very knowledgable and patient. A little on the expensive side but worth the service, knowledge, and wonderful team.
