Click to report rating    2/22/17   1     1     1     1   VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED! I took my dog in because she had a bump filled with fluid on her leg and one on her back. After looking at her for maybe half an hour, they said they would have to take a sample of the fluid in her leg and some xrays as they did not know what it might be. They also told me that my dog had fleas, and said they saw one jump off of her within that half an hour. Which I did not believe at all, considering ive never seen her scratch before and she isnt very fond of other dogs so shes not in close contact with them. So they didnt take any fluid samples or do any blood work, but they told us to bring her back for a full day for a procedure. They charged us for an antibiotic, the visit, and flea medication which was a rip off. We booked for another appointment, but when I asked for a quote they said they couldnt give me one and told me to call back an hour before the pick up time on the day that I was to drop my dog off,and then they would have a price for me. Click to report rating    10/27/16   5     5     5     5   I have been using this clinic for my pets for over 20 years. Dr. Abbey is the best vet I have ever dealt with! I have always found him professional, thorough, knowledgeable and gives my pets the very best care. Can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Abbey! RID: 61894
Click to report rating    2/17/15   5     5     5     5   I'm a third generation client of this vet's office. I tried another vet when we moved to another part of town but it was a mistake. I'm glad to be back. Dr. Bergeron is friendly, punctual, and above all great with my dog. RID: 55916
Click to report rating    12/17/14   1     5     5     3   The office manager makes the ice queen look warm. When the dog was very ill staff did not return calls and the front staff only wanted money. If end stage compassion is important to you think twice about this clinic. Dr. Claffey saved the day but it was not without a great deal of stress. RID: 55070

10/26/14   1     1     1     1   I have gone to this clinic for over 20 years and finally had to make the hard decision to find a new vet. Dr Abbey is by far the best vet in the city. Having said that, I cannot deal with the front end staff anymore. I have put up with it because leaving Dr Abbey was not something I could do. I believe the problem is with the manager, Edith. I have talked to her several times about the staff and it's the same canned answer and snotty attitude. Not to mention the way she talks down to people like they're idiots. I also know several others who have left the clinic after years because of the terrible front end staff. I have found another clinic and when I call or have to go in they actually seems happy to hear from me. What a difference it makes. It's already a stressful time without having to walk in to a clinic where no one even smiles EVER. I do still miss Dr Abbey though. RID: 54291
Click to report rating    4/8/14   5     5     5     5   When we moved to Edmonton it took a while to find a vet I liked, we started at General based on a recommendation from or Calgary Vet. It wasn't close to or house so I tried a few that were closer. We have been with General vet for 15years now, the drive is worth it. Dr Spence is absolutely amazing and her love of all things furry shows. Would recommend them. RID: 50936
Click to report rating    3/5/14   5     4     4     5   I have been going to this Vet for Years and love it there! Have seen a few vets that have come and go but have now settled in with Dr. Spence. I've never seen Dr Abbey but have heard he is an incredibly knowledgable Dr. Dr Spence is wonderful, knowledgable, compassionate and a true animal lover. I don't think any vet can be perfect and I imagine it can be quite a challenge in some cases figuring out what's wrong when it's a complex case and when an animal can't tell you what's hurts. I have always had positive results with them and I've had some tough cases for them that they have been able to work through. I've taken my dogs in for multiple follow ups at times and was never charged. The front staff is busy but always friendly and there are times I've been kept on hold for a few minutes but never too unreasonable. They have even let me stay right in the kennel with my dog when she was there for a day getting fluids. Very accommodating and would highly recommend them! RID: 50320
Click to report rating    9/28/13   3     3     1     1   After $1200. in dental surgery I was told to bring my dog back for a follow up check after two weeks. Could not believe I was told that this follow up appt. would cost an additional $42.00 In 40 years of pet ownership and multiple dental surgeries, never have I been charged for the follow up visit and in some cases more than one. I've only dealt with this clinic for the past 18 months and although previous service with a young vet that has since left the clinic, was excellent, I will not return. Telephone and follow up service is terrible. RID: 47260
Click to report rating    4/12/13   2     3     1     3   For the past 5 years, I have been very fortunate to have had two wonderful veterinarians at this clinic. But with both leaving the clinic for better work, I have been forced to try out different vets within the clinic, and I am not impressed. The three other vets that I have recently dealt with have either not read my dog's chart properly (I had to explain things for her, and it wasn't complicated), have given me the wrong medical advice, and have tried to rip me off by asking me to have my dog stay in the clinic for an entire day to run one test that had been run the day before. Also, not one of these vets showed any true care or compassion for my dog. The receptionists are very busy, causing LONG wait times on the phone (today I waited 12 minutes to get through) and in the clinic. While there are some wonderful receptionists, the staff turnover has brought in some terrible ones. They are condescending and rude. I truly miss the way the clinic used to be. RID: 41711
Click to report rating    1/23/13   5     5     5     5   We have taken our pets to Dr Abbey for many years, 30 to be exact. He is an excellent veterinarian who has a true love for animals. We have visited some of the other veterinarians within the practice, some very good and others ok. I believe staffing the office with reliable individuals is a challenge for many businesses. Many of the front desk staff are very competent. Our pets all love Dr Abbey! He takes the time to hear and communicate effectively with his clients. RID: 39857
Click to report rating    9/18/12   4     5     4     4   Has some of the best vet's in the city. However, there has been some turnover in the last couple of years and keep getting shifted between the new vet's. Clinic is busy, and the front staff are run off their feet at times, but they seem to get to you in a reasonable amount of time. RID: 37275
Click to report rating    3/30/11   5     5     5     5   I have 4 pets that are seen at this office - 2 cats and 2 dogs. The staff has always been great. I've never had to wait long, nor have I had to pay termendous amount for exams and/or treatment of any of my pets. Recently one of my dogs was attacked by a large dog at an off-leash park and they were able to get me in immediately, my dog examined and treated, and was able to calm and ease my worries about what happened. I also board my dogs here when I'm out of town and my dogs love it there; it's the only place I'll kennel my dogs. I recommend this clinic to everyone! RID: 23961
Click to report rating    7/27/10   1     3     2     3   I kick myself every day for being naive and overlooking "signs." Staff never smile ... why not? Firstly, on her one and only boarding, my dog didn't seem to enjoy stay: when I went to pick her up, she leapt into the car and whimpered all the way home until she fell asleep. Our last visit was to see about an injury that was caused by vigorous play (my fault). We had to make 2 visits. On the 2nd visit, I was foolish not to accompany the tech to x-ray. Unfortunately, staff could not handle my dog (they said). I think my dog was rough-handled. I was told to come back another day to have my dog sedated for x-raying. My dog was in pain and whimpered all the way home, but I was too navie to belief that the staff could have done anything wrong. Injury worsened after this visit, and I had to euthanize my dog. I regret ever coming here and should have sensed what our dog did ... we wanted staff who cared. RID: 18968
Click to report rating    1/9/09   1     1     1     1   This occured after seeing Dr. Abbey for over 7 years. Waited 6 weeks for appointment (never got to see/speak to Dr Abbey). Did not get to see/speak with Dr. Abbey on day of surgeries/when took home. Took both cats in 2 days later for recheck, advising one cat was lethargic/not eating. Vet tech took her into the back-again did not see/speak withDr. Abbey. Called 2 days later as condition had not improved, was told if I was worried I should go to Emergency Vet-they could not see me. General Vet had failed to listen to her lungs following the removal of her intubation-she asphyxiated (vomited into her lungs). Called General, Dr Abbey still would not speak to me, but staff told me he said to leave the cat at the Emergency Clinic as they were better equipped to care for her (that was from the owner's mouth - we should all listen)- 72 hours in an oxygen tank. To this day I have not heard from Dr. Abbey, he owes me $3500 in costs paid to the Emergency Clinic for his/his staffs mistakes RID: 11113
Click to report rating    7/29/08   2     2     1     3   I went on recommendation from a friend(who had a very bad experience after herself). Its not that the people are hard to deal with, its just that you can wait for EVER to get a reply on the phone. Also the vet that I saw was very kind but didnt even know the latest on dog food ie Evo, Inova!! All she wanted to do was push the Hills diets... and they are pure garbage. They are way behind the times and need to update their training on newer and holistic type practices. Dogs dont need to be vaccinated every year.... read the research. My dog hasnt been vaccinated since he was 16 weeks old... he is 8 now and his titers tests come back with strong antibodies. RID: 9502
Click to report rating    1/10/08   3     3     1     2   This vet came highly recommended, so I brought my dog in for a second opinion. She had been diagnosed with CAH (very common for her breed), something I understand Dr. Abby sees a lot of. He spent a lot of time with us, okayed the diet my vet had recommended, but suggested I not give her milk thistle since we didn't know what it would do to dogs. He also told me she wouldn't live very long. She was just three at the time. Well, as it turns out, the diet she was on caused her to lose most of her hair and muscle tone. I soon sought a third opinion, and was given much different advice, including a radical change in her diet, and the addition of milk thistle (apparently there were lots of studies on the subject). She is now 12, still active and looks like a million bucks. RID: 6912
Click to report rating    2/1/07   5     5     5     5   The owner of the clinic is one of the most respected Veterinarians in the Country. His staff is equally respected and more than capable. The administration staff are some of the most qualified I've come across. The clinic as a whole is an extremely compassionate group and go out of their way to do whatever humanly possible for both you and your pet. My family has been dealing with this clinic for generations and would recommend them in a blink. They have gone so far as to donate thousands of dollars worth of treatment time to a rescue dog that the organization I volunteer with brought in for treatment. RID: 2400
