Click to report rating    9/14/13   3     4     3     1   These folks charged me $511.00 to neuter 2 kittens. I now need surgery on my jaw from it dropping to the floor when they put the bill in front of me. Anyway you better have deep pockets when you enter this place. RID: 46939
Click to report rating    1/29/12   4     4     1     1   Very disappointed with the treatment we received. It would have helped to have been told what was wrong with the dog after two exams, and over $500 of charges. RID: 31866
Click to report rating    1/17/12   2     3     2     2   Since I'm not given specifics on what aspect of the "staff" I am rating I wasn't sure. I am more than displeased considering I may have had my cat go through a NEEDLESS procedure. I had an emergency with my cat and in my distraught state did not realize I was not told what the actual procedure involved NOR was I told long or short term risks! I have been crying my eyes out apologizing to my cat for something he may not have needed. Staff were nice to me and all but I cannot tell how KNOWLEDGEABLE any of them were because I was not in a mood to test that knowledge nor in a state of mind to ask the right questions. In my opinion the facility should have done that for me! I was surely NOT the first case of this they'd seen. If you know your stuff and can hold your head in emergency situations by all means go. But if you get scared and confused and badly want someone to explain everything to you regardless of whether you want to hear it or not I'd consider going elsewhere. RID: 30626
Click to report rating    11/24/11   1     3     1     1   They can kill your bird, do not go there. They take your animal away for the exam and you don't see what they are doing. We payed 800 dollars for the x-ray of our budgie last Sunday. Dr. Nicholas Cabano told us that our budgie has a broken wing and advised us immediately go to the avian specialist next day. They didn't give us the x-ray images immediately, but promised to put it online next day. It is never happened. I spent half of the day just calling them and asking to send me these files. Finally, they sent them, but it was very grainy and pixelated images. I visited 2 avian vets already. They don't see any broken bones. Actually, it is difficult to see anything on these images. The x-ray procedure is very dangerous for birds and can kill them. I don't want to go this risk again. Do not go to VCA and avoid Cabano. They worry only about money and will lie you about your pet's health. RID: 29371
Click to report rating    11/1/09   4     4     1     2   Their emergency care is very good, but as you would expect, extremely expensive. Support staff have varied - sometimes kind and conscientious, sometimes arrogant or distracted, even rude. Of course, some of this may be because there are stresses going on behind the scenes. When I went there years ago during regular hours as my regular vet, I unfortunately ALWAYS was kept waiting a long time in their large room, which was frequently quite crowded, and that's why I switched vets for routine care. It's distressing especially to cats to have to sit in room with dogs for a long period of time. But I do recommend them very highly for the quality of emergency care. RID: 15144
Click to report rating    4/14/09   5     5     5     5   I am very surprised about some of the poor reviews. I have been going to Alexandria for over 20 years, my entire family has as well. They might seem expensive if you are not used to the cost of vet medicine. The prices are about the same in all the other hospitals in the area, trust me I shop around. Do not let poor reviews discourage you from going to Alexandria. They are the best hospital in the area. It is also a plus that they open 24 hours a day. I have always been satisfied with every visit. The doctors are very caring and the customer service is great. They are always very patient with me and my many inquiries about my animals and their health problems. I am glad that Alexandria Animal Hospital is here for me and the community. RID: 12431
Click to report rating    4/11/09   1     4     1     1   Their prices are way too high and it is clear they are overstaffed. Almost everytime I go there are 5-6 people goofing off in the office area and no one is paying any attention to their jobs. With all those people they missed my last appointment and I was waiting for an hour till they realized I had been skipped. Then to boot the vets don't care about the animals; all they want to do is take your money. They get away with it because Alexandria has enough people that don't care about money and don't know any better. Give me a country vet any day. This place is horrible. Don't take your animal here unless it is an absolute emergency and no one else is open. RID: 12399
Click to report rating    7/7/08   3     3     4     2   horribly over-priced; will prescribe meds without a diagnosis and overlook obvious problems. If you want to take your chances, Dr. Zheni is worth it. Good luck getting an appointment. RID: 9207
Click to report rating    1/23/08   1     3     1     1   We took our newly adopted dog for an initial exam. The veterinarian barely looked at him before he was unnecessarily sedated due to a bulbus looking scar on his lip. Within a week we took him to a different vet and it was quickly determined that the bulb was an irregularly healed wound rather than a skin growth. This unnecessary sedation of our weak and malnourished dog that we just adopted from the pound to become incredibly sick. Furthermore, our request to have him chipped was never fulfilled. He also had some bald patches of skin and we suggested that the vet examine it, yet nothing was done. It turned out to be a simple case of mites, easily determined by a skin scrape. RID: 7072
Click to report rating    6/8/07   1     1     1     1   I and my boyfriend took his cat here for emergency treatment. Some of the staff members did their jobs with reasonable politeness and efficiency, but the general tone of many was one of callous unconcern. When we tried to get information over the phone, we could only reach technicians who told us that we would be called back by a doctor. A doctor only called once during the 2 1/2 days the cat was there. We had also been told that we would be called as needed to authorize procedures. But they did tests that we had never discussed, without our permission and notifying us after the fact. The final bill was exorbitant and unclear (with line items as vague as "injection"). Dr. Bartl, whom I spoke with when we picked up the cat, was the most condescending and unpleasant person I have ever dealt with. We never got a diagnosis. We were supposed to get the final test results the day after we brought the cat home. Instead, an administrator called stating that they had been "lost". RID: 4443
Click to report rating    2/7/07   5     5     3     3   This pet hospital has many benefits, including access to MANY vets and knowledgeable technicians who seem to truly care about your animals, after-hours facilities, emergency care, etc. However, expect to pay a lot for these services (one local boarder told me they are the most expensive in the area). Our experience is that the vets might recommend very expensive procedures that may or may not be necessary (the same local boarder told us they have a history of this as well). Still, if you have the money, this place is probably the best. Expensive but top of the line. RID: 2730
