Click to report rating    5/1/19   5     5     5     4   The staff are super knowledgeable! They are all so sweet. They really helped me with my rabbit. They gave me some really good advice on what and how much to feed. I just took my little guy for a general check up. But SO worth it. Loved Dr Regan, at first I was hesitant in doing treatments but after she throughly explained them to me I felt much better and went ahead with almost everything. RID: 67966

4/20/18   2     1     1     1   This Dr. Regan is horrible. I thought my pet was acting unusual but at the vet's he showed no signs of illness. For no reason, Dr. Regan immediately assumed I was mistreating my pet. She wanted my pet inhospital for observation & incurred a large bill for me but my pet was not sick. Sadly I was too young to know this is her way of gouging customers. I also do not appreciate that she at times takes photos of our pets to post on their website, as it is a breach of patient privacy. When I came to collect my pet, she did not have the decency to see me but sent the other vet instead, who was actually really nice and so was the receptionist. I notice Dr. Regan tends to petition issues associated with a particular country which makes me wonder about her dislike for certain kinds of people. I highly do not recommend her. RID: 65992
Click to report rating    3/21/18   5     5     5     5   I took my cat to this clinic for a check up and for an update on her shots. The staff was extremely welcoming and were very gentle and loving to my cat. They had a great "cat room" for the examination that included fun cat things (stairs a little hiding dome and toys)'. They were very clear on what shots they were going to give my cat and explained why she needed to get them (one was a booster and the second one was for rabies). They taught me how to take better care of her teeth and her nails (no cost and not trying to sell product). Contrary to other comments, they did not try to up sell me on anything and the total cost for the visit was very very reasonable. I would highly recommend this clinic! RID: 65797
Click to report rating    3/3/17   5     5     5     4   Vets are always expensive, but we've been quite delighted with the care and service we've received here, both with a new, young cat and with our old boy who ultimately died. Dr Banerjee and the rest of the staff have been just great. RID: 62903

11/28/13   1     1     3     1   Do NOT bring your rabbit here. My husband and I rescued a rabbit and have been nursing it back to health. We brought it here rather than our regular exotics vet because this place is closer. They are a money pit. After ten minutes of poking around its genitals, we were told it was PROBABLY a 4.5-year old female, even though I suspected it was a baby male. The vet's solution to our differing opinions? "Open bunny up and have a look inside." (That's a direct quote). We were then handed a quote outlining $800 worth of *pre-emptive* procedures and vaccines to treat problems our rabbit may or may not encounter in the future; and that's "Not including..." the exploratory gender surgery. We laughed. By the way, he's a male, and his testicles haven't dropped yet, so he's under a year old. As suspected. Please note: Anesthetizing and cutting open a baby rabbit to tell it's gender merely as a cash grab is not only totally irresponsible, but infuriatingly uncaring. RID: 48490

9/3/13   1     2     3     1   We had taken our cat to this clinic because of the close proximity to our house. Starting from our initial visit it was clear that the emphasis was on the $$$. The vet tech looked at the list of shots they were telling us were necessary, and after my wife explained that we could not afford to purchase all of these, the tech said "Well, just pick one then." After my cat received this shot, she came home and was a zombie for a day. When she continued to become even more lethargic the following day and would not eat or drink we returned to the clinic, and they said "oh she must have had a reaction to the shot" Ugh! And then they flushed my cat with a water injection. A year later when my cat became ill the suggested path of treatment quickly approached the $3,000 mark, with the disclaimer that there is no guarantees. We started down the path, but our cat's conditioned worsened and she passed. I never felt that this clinic had our best interests at heart. RID: 46706

3/11/12   5     5     5     4   The staff and Dr. Regan were kind and caring to both my canary and me. There were always follow-up calls after a visit and when I called with questions/concerns, my calls were promptly returned and staff took time to help me. They really listened, were patient and friendly. And I learned more about birds in the process as they were quite knowledgeable. RID: 32820

1/23/12   1     3     4     1   Brought my budgie in with a prolapsed uterus. After a brief examination was quoted $1,000 for two days hospital stay with a possible chance of recovery. I was quite taken aback. Asked for the euthanasia option, and still had to pay $300 including the 5 minute consultation. Paid less than half this amount a few months ago at another clinic for a late night visit (another budgie with the same condition). Came away with the strong impression this organization is preying on concerned pet owners. Beware. RID: 31744

1/23/12   3     5     5     2   My pets are rabbits. I went here for years, but I won't be going back. AHHP is a teaching hospital, and the student techs are really inexperienced: three times I watched them mishandle my bunny, and twice almost drop him on the ground. Otherwise, the service is high-efficiency, low-intimacy: I never had to wait long for anything, and they have the best equipment, very clean facilities, and high levels of expertise, but they're also the most expensive in the city, and I couldn't talk to the vets about my deeper questions and concerns (finally I opted to PAY for a conversation, but even that was rushed). The vets always jumped to the most expensive options (i.e. overnight intake) and were generally unwilling to help me help my rabbit. Considering they aren't a 24hr facility, and considering they know damn well that the local 24hr facilities are far from ideal for rabbits, you'd think they understand how important it is that health begins at home, but no.  1/1/12   1     1     1     1   DO NOT BRING YOUR RABBIT OR BUNNY OR ANY PET INTO THIS CLINIC!!! THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY & TRIED TO MANIPULATE & LURE OUR FAMILY INTO PAYING OVER $2000 FOR A 3-DAY STAY. THEY ENDED UP CHARGING US JUST OVER $500, & PRESCRIBED THE WRONG MEDICATION WHICH RUPTURED OUR BABY'S STOMACH TO DEATH!!! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE WELL-BEING AND RECOVERY OF PETS!!! COMPASSION & EMPATHY WERE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND WITH THAT CRUEL VET DR. REGAN WHO SCAMMED US INTO PAYING OVER $500 FOR POORLY PRESCRIBED MEDICATION THAT WORSENED OUR RABBIT'S G.I. STASIS!!! PLEASE, WE URGE EVERYONE & ANYONE WHO HAS ANY PET TO NOT BRING YOUR LITTLE ONE INTO THIS AWFUL, HORRIBLE MONEY-SCAMMING FACILITY. DR. REGAN IS DISHONEST, UN-CARING, AND ONLY INTERESTED IN MAKING QUICK $CASH$ AT THE EXPENSE OF THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF OUR LOVING PETS!!! THE EXAM ROOMS HAVE TALLY-CASH REGISTERS IN THEM, FOR DR.  11/16/11   5     5     5     5   I brought my pet cat there, greeted very friendly by the receptionists and had a technician start the appointment she was very through with her questions, finally when the vet Dr. Chung came in she was friendly and very knowledgeable. They gave me a cat folder which had emergency clinic phone numbers which i now keep on my fridge. I got my kitty vaccinated he got worm medication and some blood work and i found the costs to be reasonable. I was very pleased with my visit there and i recommend this clinic very much RID: 29175
Click to report rating    11/13/11   1     1     1     1   I brought my cockatiel in one day to the animal hospital of high park. We got there, the clinic was not busy but charged us $80 for an emergency fee (????). They set us up with Dr. Karen Regan. She had a brief look at our poor bird and clicked away on her computer. She gave us a total of $1500 dollars for treatment and for keeping her there for several days just to test her and when asked, she could not give me a proper diagnosis and the treatment would be a "maybe" as to whether she'd be ok or not. Ridiculous. Not an informative vet. She then gave me the guilt trip saying "well many people pay this much or even more every day to get their birds treated". End result was she spoke to my father as well to try and convince him of the costs and we talked her down to giving us the necessary medication and the visit price. I ended up paying $380. In the end i still had no idea what caused this condition and I was incredibly upset with this vet. DO NOT Recommend. Seems to be a trend with her. RID: 29083
10/24/11   1     1     1     1   Absolutely horrible. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS TO THIS PLACE! My girlfriend and I brought our cat to here becuase she was making snorting sounds. The vet told us that she required immediate surgery or she would die. After we left, the vet did an x-ray and found no evidence of what she thought the problem was. Disregarding this fact, our cat was taken into surgery without any additional diagnosics and without informing us. This surgery was extremely invasive, invovling her being cut from her rib cage to her pelvis. After the unnecessary surgery, we got a bill for $3900... We then took the cat to another vet who told us that SHE HAD A COLD and the sound she was making was her trying to clear her nose. The other vet also told us that if we continued to give her all of the antibiotics that Animal Hospital of High Park had prescribed, it would likely kill all of the good bacteria in her digestive tract, and told us to cut the dose in half. NEVER BRING YOUR PET HERE!!!! RID: 28542

10/7/11   2     4     4     1   First of all, the vets at High Park are knowledgeable with rabbits. With that said, their bedside manners are pretty bad and they are super aggressive for your business. But what's worse for me is that they did not cure my bunny. Greenwood Park Animal Hospital did. My pet rabbit, Mori is a pure-bred netherland dwarf, unspayed and currently 4 yrs old. I would like to get her spayed, but her bigger problem (and why I took her to the vet) was that she had MRSA. The medication schedule High Park prescribed for Mori didn't work. When I took Mori back for a follow-up, the vet pressured me to get her spayed. I made it clear that I don't want to spay her until she's cured, but instead I got the guilt trip tactic ("it's in her best interest if you spay her now"). When I got back home, they called me to make a spay appointment for Mori. At that point, I told them I was going to another vet because they didn't respect my decision to hold off spaying until Mori was cured of MRSA. RID: 28160
Click to report rating    5/17/11   1     1     4     1   Worst vet clinic I've been to. From the first second we stepped in we felt pressured into spending money. We saw Dr. Loews who didn't seem too confident with what our dogs needed however she was kept trying to convince us to get extra vaccines that they did not need and told us we need to let them do dental surgery for one of 5 month old puppies because she had her permanent tooth coming in and still had her baby tooth by saying it will not fall out on its own. NOT TRUE. I brought up that we thought our other puppy may have problems with his vision and she dismissed us.The visits were both focused on selling us surgery, supplies, food that the carried etc. They asked us what we feed them and we said Origin which is one of the best foods on the market but she along with the techs said they've never heard of it and continued to insist their food was better. We just didn't feel like they had our dogs best interest in mind and we decided to switch vets. Total money grab is all they are. RID: 25058

4/14/11   5     5     4     4   I have brought my cat and dog to see Dr. Louws and Dr. Regan (whoever was available) and each time the technicians were helpful and extremely knowledgable about what the best care was for my pets from diet (my cat has horrible teeth) to wellness and prevention. I was given a welcome package, and my cat who is afraid of everything was handled calmly and they were able to vaccinate her without a lot of restraint (something that could never be done at my previous vet.) Ya it costs money for an exam, bloodwork and vaccines... things we as people dont have to worry about. Overall it costs money to have pets and unforeseen things happen just like us, unfortunatly they dont have free healthcare or people wouldnt be complaining. I dont see why all people take about is money when you love your pet money shouldn't be a question. Bottom line is if you cant afford them dont get them. I love my dog and cat and would finance if i had to.. thats a responsibility i took when i adopted them. RID: 24401
12/18/10   1     1     1     1   Dr. Ginger Louws is an incompetent unprofessional poor excuse for a veterinarian, who clearly should not handle any animal due to her "hard personal life" If my job is to save lives I am going to save them and not make excuses for why I would forget to inform a patient who has paid a costly bill some simple directions such as things that can be done at home to save the life of the sick pet for those who cant afford even more costly treatment. I feel very used for my money and completely disappointed with her moral ethics as a vet. DO NOT TRUST HER WITH YOUR PET RIP CLYDE RID: 21478
Click to report rating    11/17/10   3     3     2     1   My cat was suffering terribly and it was clear that she needed to be euthanized. They kept me waiting and waiting even though I had an appointment and my cat continued to degenerate, suffering horribly. When the vet did show up, she took the cat's temperature for which I was charged a $60 exam fee. While I am sobbing, with no empathy whatsoever I was bombarded with dozen's of up-sells for my cat's euthanization, and when I was not interested - all they were interested in was the type of payment I would be making before I left the exam room. Yes - that's right, they have a register in the exam room. When I received my bill - one of the line items next to it was "our condolences for your loss" and it was listed as $0.00 ON THE BILL. I do not recommend this vet at all - worst experience of my life. RID: 20909
Click to report rating    8/31/10   1     2     1     1   The nurse first checked her. Dr. Lane told her how to properly hold a rabbit. I explained that I think my bunny had something in her throat. Her mouth was cut and bleeding slightly after he checked her mouth. His response: that happens. He recommended rehydration & painkiller then she would need to stay for observation. He gave us a list amounting to $2000 for 3 days. He did not tell me what he thinks she has. I asked him about 3 items on the list, he avoided the question. He kept coming in and out with new figures: Plan A (abv). B I give him a # and he chooses what treatment to give; C euthanasia; or just give her painkillers and rehydration and take her home which he said would be "buying time." He kept rushing us. We choose plan C. He did not explain the full process nor did he give the option to come hold her while he put her down. He took her, and I said I needed more time to think, he said there'll never be enough time. The nurse returned my bunny sealed in a white box. RID: 19500
Click to report rating    7/16/10   5     5     5     5   I brought my bird who has a wound on the wing and they gave me a ton of information in a paper folder and it was very helpful, I also bought 2 amazing DVDs and Nutriberries that my bird loves and most importantly my bird was talking on our walk to the car and very much alive. It is a big wound though so she has a lot of healing to do. I don't think it's broken cause it would probably hurt and cause a lot more discomfort. she's on antibiotics, painkillers, and my brother puts antibacterial gel on her although I don't know if this is necessary cause I think it's healing and it might irritate it but we saw Dr. Lane and he was very helpful and very charismatic for a vet, much more than Dr. Axelson at Links Road in plus Avian Board Certified so that helps. He gave a lot of tips although I would have liked them written down and he did kind of rush us at the end but we took a lot of his time too though. the staff were amazing and very helpful and knowledgeable. I will come back! :D RID: 18811
Click to report rating    6/23/10   5     5     5     3   I have brought both my rabbit and my snake here, and never once have they "pushed" anything on me or tried to "upsell" me. They are very knowledgeable about rabbits, especially. My holland lop rabbit was a rescue and had a huge amount of things wrong with her when I first brought her home. With medications, the total only came to $300. I've brought my snake in for respiratory problems, and again, it only ended up costing me about $200. Yes, they will want you to get xrays, but you can decline them, and they have NEVER pressured or guilted me into thinking I NEEDED them. I've seen a couple of different veterinarians at this clinic, and every time I go, the staff is friendly and amazing. The vets always call me a day or two after the appointment to see how my pet is doing. I don't know what everyone else seems to have a problem with. I've had nothing but good experiences here. RID: 18512
Click to report rating    6/14/10   2     3     1     1   I made an appointment to have my gecko looked at since I suspected impaction which is pretty serious. We arrived early to the appointment and were told we would have to wait. We waited half an hour in the waiting room before we were told a vet would see us. We then spent over an hour waiting for a vet to see us!! They later admitted that they "forgot" about us. The assistant told us initially after looking at our gecko that surgery would be required. Finally when we saw Dr. Reagan we were told that thankfully it wasn't impaction but we would need to go through a battery of expensive tests to be sure. The issue was that the intestines were blocked, the solution was a flush of the intestines which was the only procedure (besides an analysis of what came out) we agreed to pay for. She laid out the guilt trip but since we were very strapped for cash at the moment it was all we could afford. Gecko is now fine 6 months later. They promised to make a few follow up calls but never did. RID: 18377
Click to report rating    6/13/10   1     4     3     1   I only see Dr Robin Lane for my birds, he's genuine and it shows. One time he wasn't available and they made me see Dr Regan instead. She gives you a certain disapproving look if you ask about the necessity of all her expensive recommendations that makes you feel like you are a bad bird owner who isn't truly committed to their health. I can see how many owners would feel stressed and fall for this. My bird also came back more messed up and traumatized than I'd ever seen him. Dr Lane never made me feel that way. When he came back from leave they wouldn't let me switch back and kept trying to push Dr Regan on me... it was enough to push me to Links Road Bird Clinic instead, sadly not before I'd recommended Dr Lane to another cockatiel owner who got given Dr Regan instead and is having the same issues with her, including the guilt trip for questioning the need for so much expensive treatment. RID: 18351
Click to report rating    6/12/10   3     3     2     1   When we told the vet we only wanted to make sure our sick guinea pig wasn't in pain but did not want to go forward with treatment we got the guilt treatment. We left after paying 250$. Second guinea pig got tests that showed he couldn't be saved. Test and putting him down cost 850$! These people are robbing vulnerable animal lovers blind. RID: 18348
Click to report rating    4/19/10   1     3     3     1   I went here with my first cat. On one of the follow up to his being neutered the vet found a lump and it was immediatly diagnosed as cancer. If we acted quickly they might save his leg....it turned out to be a pimple (they didn't use this term but after grilling the vet he did finally admit that it was in fact a pimple. I spent $500 on this..could have had a really nice spa day for me for this. Silly me I went back - i did change vet. At the annual checkup the vet suggested that I have baseline blood work done (he was 3 years old - I thought this was a little early but went for it anyway.) I got a call that the thyroid was totally out of wack. After grilling the vet he finally told me that the T4 level was very high - over 500 with the normal high of 50. I looked over at my sleeping cat and informed the vet that this was a magnitude error (somebody slipped a decimal) if my cats level was that high he would be a blurr racing over the place and should have lost some weight. Click to report rating    1/26/10   1     1     1     1   My husband and I brought in our three month old german shepherd for shots. The vet noticed that her canines were chipped. No big deal, we thought. She was still eating, chewing toys, playing tug-of-war, and besides, her teeth were supposed to fall out any day now. Well, weren't we the ignorant and neglectful pet owners! Didn't we know she was in brutal pain? The vet immediately sidetracked from the purpose of our visit and mocked up an invoice for us to have a surgeon take bone grafts from her hip bones to repair her teeth at $500 per tooth, plus any additional surgery fees. We said no, she persisted, we said no more firmly, she reminded us our dog was in terrible pain. We left. During the following week she left two messages on our answering machine badgering us to get the surgery. End result? The teeth fell out a couple of weeks later. RID: 16332
Click to report rating    3/4/09   5     4     5     1   I got taken to the cleaners, I took my 1 year old rabbit in for tummy problems, got guilted into paying over $1800 to leave him there for three days, got suckered into using a medical finance company to pay it. Only to find out that I could have gotten out of there with my bunny, some meds to give at home and would only cost me $300. Now I have an extra $50.00 expense to pay each month, that I don't really have in the first place. Go to another vet for your bunny, or any other pet for that matter. RID: 11967
Click to report rating    12/20/08   3     4     4     2   To echo others, Dr. Lane is amazing and is the only one who will give you the straight goods. The other vets will try and upsell you. They must work on some kind of commission. On the other hand, they are a forward-thinking organization with a tendency for aggressive treatment. This is good if you can spend the money to try anything to save your pet. These vets keep up with the latest in vet medicine which is why they do lecture and publish. They are very very expensive but the vets and most of the techs knew how to handle my guinea pigs. I had no doubt that they know their stuff. RID: 10960
Click to report rating    12/17/08   3     4     4     1   I've never felt so miserable in my life as when I brought my sick and ailing cat into them. I should have brought financial statements as that's all they seemed interested in. Constant upselling and guilting me, it was one of the worst veterinary experiences in my life. And the costs were outrageous! When I questioned the responses were guilt-ridden. I should have bailed sooner. Subsequently I have found MUCH better care elsewhere. RID: 10940
Click to report rating    5/13/08   1     3     3     1   This vet hospital only cares about money. Their fees are outrageous (e.g. they charge a new fee each time they pick up the pet to perform a test during the same visit) and they guilt you into paying for every test possible, not just what is necessary for diagnosis. When money becomes an issue (i.e. when their tests add up to thousands of dollars per visit), they don’t provide you with options; it’s almost like you have to accept all the tests or they'll tell you that you’re going to lose your pet and refuse to perform even the least expensive tests. Horrible experience. Would not recommend. If you have to go there, see Dr. Lane. He was the only vet who was reasonable and seemed to genuinely care. RID: 8490
Click to report rating    5/8/08   4     5     4     2   Having several ferrets I've been to many vets; High Park was the only hospital equipped to deal with some of the more serious issues we've faced and the vets (Dr. Regan is the usual one we see) are very knowledgeable. It's costly but I'd rather pay to have a pet than save money and lose them. RID: 8430
Click to report rating    4/24/08   2     4     4     1   Had similar experience to other people here. Brought in my 15 year old cat - started with giving me a big package to take home filled with company sponsered flyers for every product they sell (food, insurance, vaccinations, etc.) geared towards a senior cat. Vet tech was condescending. Vet seemed knowledgable but pushing every possible test. Not provided with options. RID: 8252
Click to report rating    10/10/07   1     1     1     1   They made me so so so sick. Quoted me 600 dollars to get my cat spayed. Had it done at the Bloor Kipling animal clinic for 90 dollars, and they did a FANTASTIC job. High Park site only cares for money, they're like a bad salesperson not professional medical personnel. RID: 6117
Click to report rating    8/16/07   1     3     2     1   These people make me sick. When I was 16 I went into the hospital with my sick ferret. They quoted me over $4000 to treat my ferret and "maybe" fix the problem. When I told them that I couldn't pay that price, they made me feel like I didn't love my pet, and they handed me a flier for a pet loan company. I got the breakdown for the costs and it was ridiculous! $120 for IV administration? I've done this before while working at a vet clinic and it does NOT cost that much! Not to mention all the unnecessary tests! At one point, I did pay for their ridiculously priced blood work. They shaved half my ferret, and then handed him back after 30 minutes saying "he was too wild" and that I'd have to come back! Might I add that this was a severely ill ferret who had lost to use of his back legs! All their "fees" and "administration costs" are so ridiculous. They're preying on all the exotics owners, since they know they're one of the few clinics in the city that can handle them. Really sad. =( RID: 5637

Click to report rating    5/19/07   3     5     4     2   Allow me to qualify my staff rating - Dr. Lane is THE BEST! ONLY allow Dr. Lane to treat YOUR bird. Other vets on staff here may or may not be qualified to properly treat birds - nor do they have the inclination/temperament to do so well. Be SURE to get ALL charges incl. follow up/meds/ EVERYTHING in writing before you agree to ANY procedure or testing done. Testing on avians is expensive, not all are necessary. I recently ok’d a necessary procedure for my cockatoo. Dr. Lane performed the surgery –FLAWLESSLY. Dr. Watson performed routine bandage change/follow up & (IMO) mangled a perfectly executed surgical procedure - by bandaging so tight circulation was cut off. See ONLY Dr. Lane & get all the charges BEFORE you OK anything. RID: 4014
Click to report rating    4/5/07   4     5     5     1   They wanted $1700 to operate on an eggbound lizard (all it had originally needed was an injection to induce egglaying, but they didn't do it because they wanted the eggs to be laid "naturally") and when I said that price was ridiculous they tried to make me feel guilty for not going ahead with the operation. On a second occasion they charged me over $1000 to *diagnose* cancer in my cat and to keep it alive on fluids until their battery of tests was done. Being burned twice is enough. Never again.
