Staff is polite; the facility is fine; they were punctual - none of these questions address quality of care. Price is secondary but extremely high when charging people to "learn" (make mistakes) that cost our pets in pain and suffering as well as draining our pocket books. Specifics - Our puppy had surgery and was shaved (understandable). She had such severe razor burns, they scabbed and caused her more discomfort than the actual surgery. Staff (surgery) seemed unconcerned/offered no treatment options to reduce discomfort. Fortunately I have a vet in the family (not in the city) who helped. As well, overmedication resulted in a need for drug reversal - puppy suffered, I was charged - vet college received education opportunity. Surgery was more invasive due to first year resident's inexperience - longer under anesthetic; more drugs; more cost; more healing time. Wow - wish we had other options!!!! RID: 68757
Click to report rating    5/1/19   5     5     4     5   I have taken 2 of my Yorkies here to have leg surgeries and the staff here is top notch. I now own an animal rescue and live in Lloydminster but I still ask to be referred to this clinic. The cost is about 2/3 of the cost it would be if I took my animals to an Edmonton surgeon and I love all the care the animals get. Thank you for all you do! RID: 67968
Click to report rating    3/7/18   3     3     5     1   My dog had a cancerous tumor behind her eye and ophthalmology was paid to run tests for diagnosis. She was go to good for surgery only to pass away a week after the surgery. Her abdomen was full of cancer. Her organs had shut down and she bled to death in pain. Yes, she had cancer but we paid for tests that were not thorough, surgery that was not good to go and she was put through the pain of surgery. The ophthalmologists narrowed in on her eye tumor without testing for more cancer. You are required to prepay yet you do not get the files till some time later. I recommend that you demand the files on the spot. When you are stressed and emotional, remember that your pet is a test subject to them, but a family member to you. RID: 65712

12/7/17   1     1     1     1   WARNING ` They just want your money and use extortion tactics! My pet was bitten and I immediately brought him to SAC. Vet told me price range. Vet wanted to shave my pet ($50), put him under ($100), clean his wound ($50), and send him to xrays ($100). This was on top of meds which had already cost me $250! Note: cleaning of his wound is done only with saline solution. Using anesthetics risks the pet's life; they make you sign a waiver for. They wanted to do this to pour salt water on him!? I brought my pet home and immediately proceeded to clean his wound. I then dried him up, gave him his meds, and placed him in a comfy cot of his own. I moved food and water for him to reach. I've beed observing him carefully since; he's getting better. The Animal Protection Services were sent to my house two days later! They have received a complaint. I know who made the complaint, it was SAC and its because I wouldn't give them all the money they asked for. RID: 65169
Click to report rating    10/17/17   5     5     4     5   I'm shocked at the poor rating on this clinic. I've been here a few times over the past 4 years and I always had a very positive experience. In August my dog was severely sick with what was believed to be pancreatitis. I thought I was going to lose him. I live in Regina, I love my vets, and they did their best with the equipment they had, but when my dog wasn't improving and needed 24-hour care I took him to Saskatoon. It was the Small Animal Clinic who had the equipment to do proper diagnostics on him and fortunately found and treated the perforated ulcer my vets could not detect. I am convinced I would have lost him had it not been for the Small Animal Clinic. Was it cheap? Nope. Did I expect it to be cheap? Nope. I had excellent treatment from the reception staff and Jasmine Gu, DVM and Robin MacRae, BVMS Resident. They were nothing short of wonderful and they even gave me reports on my dogs progress twice daily. I highly recommend this clinic for serious issues with your pet. RID: 64855
Click to report rating    6/22/17   1     1     1     1   Had a terrible experience today with Dr. Grahn at the small animal clinic. I have a farm dog border collie who is very nervous and barks at new people. As soon as he walked in the room she started to bark at him. He started to get very angry and upset and spent 5 minutes lecturing me about disciplining my dog. I pulled her back and tried to talk calmly to her telling her to calm down, the only technique that has worked best for me.He made the situation so uncomfortable and then left the room. He had a student check her over then came back in the room 5 min later. By this time the dog had completely calmed down and he said that he did not want to look at her. He then said he didn't think her eyes would have changed since two years ago and that likely her eyes will not get worse as she gets older and gave me a prescription.I think it's time he calls it quits. With a loud, rude, obnoxious personality I don't think he is a good fit to be training the new set of veterinarians. RID: 63989
Click to report rating    1/19/17   2     3     1     1   Our dog had all the classic symptoms of a UTI/possible bladder problem and when we brought him in after he was unable to urinate which was a medical emergency at the time it took 4+ hours for him to simply be catheterized (without any sedation or pain killers) and then they started with wanting to do every test under the sun instead of just checking for an infection (urinalysis and blood panel are what we asked for) but they insisted on an ultrasound etc and we did it, left WITHOUT medication and were just told to "watch" our dog. No answers, no nothing. He continued to decline, took him into another vet and sadly was diagnosed with transitional cell carcinoma (that should have been seen on the ultrasound or in the urinalysis they took but never tested even though we PAID for it) as well as acute canine dysautonomia. We had to put him to sleep within 12 hours of having him into another vet. Waste of money and complete lack of compassion, over $1500 there just to have them screw it up. RID: 62407

7/27/16   5     4     5     3   I had a great experience with this clinic. Our vet in Regina referred us to Saskatoon to the UofS Oncology Unit for my dog. Although the end results were devastating, we were very pleased with everyone at this clinic. All the various admin. I spoke with were very diligent and helpful. The oncology technician went over all questions I had before making the commute up to the University Clinic. Then both the leader doctor as-well-as the resident vet were caring, informative and knowledgeable. I appreciate everything they did. They handled everything very professionally and followed up with us to ensure our pet was doing well and ensured that all our questions were answered. I would recommend this clinic to others ?  11/11/15   4     3     2     3   My experience was not good because I lost both my reptiles. I questioned the vets decisions and what more I could have done. The procedures scared me because they both passed after. This result lead to a meeting with a pet grievance councilor and the vet to explain everything. I recommend this to anyone.do not let your pets death go unexplained, because even if you signed a form saying you understand the risks, as a owner my experience is your not thinking the way you would normally because it is a tough time. It helped me a lot, for example I did not know my pet was being fed or the care for leaving over night but that was explained. RID: 58925

7/24/15   3     1     1     1   There is very little to no communication with you from the vets. I was sent on a referral from my vet and they did not even acknowledge his requests or even mention them. They told us they would do a quick evaluation of our dog and be right back, an hour and a half later they finally came to talk to us and we never saw our dog again. We were waiting on blood work and they were charging us to "monitor" our dog although all he was doing was hanging out on the ICU floor awaiting results - no treatments were being administered. When we requested to take him home until we had further information they were very insistent that we not remove him from the clinic. We insisted and they brought us our dog and we will never return to this clinic, not likely even if its a matter or life or death. RID: 57795

12/18/14   1     2     2     1   We were going on a holiday and taking our dogs to the kennel.I called the small animal clinic to make sure our dogs were up to date with their shots/vaccinations.I spoke to 2 people on 2 different phone calls.I asked them BOTH to look up my dogs and let me know. They BOTH said"Yes,they are up to date with all there shots." erfect i thought!I went down there to get a paper copy to give to the kennel. When i brought the paper copy home and took a look at it.the dates did not make ANY sense.I called the clinic back and told them to explain it to me... cause they should know how to read it right? The lady said she would cal me back and wasnt sure.SO i called the next day because i NEEDED to get this figured out otherwise NO trip for me AND i lose my deposit from the kennel.I asked what the deal was,she said ya... your dog isnt up to date with his shots. that would have been GREAT to know when i called and asked 2 TIMES!they couldnt get my dog into an app in time. WONT never be going back.! RID: 55089

9/18/13   1     3     1     1   Referred by my regular Vet for a specific test, sent with X-rays and blood work. They decided they wanted to do all their own. Every test but for the one I came for was not performed. They wanted a MRI($1500)and that is were I stopped. It wasn't the money, it was the fact that I was sent there for something specific an this was ignored. So left with no answers, not the test I was referred for and almost $3000 ligher. A few different treatments from my regular Vet and my dog is doing very well. I will never step foot in there again, not even for an emergency. I will phone every Vet in the book before I would go there. RID: 47042

8/11/13   1     2     1     1   Went to take my pet in... These people are heartless... In it for the money only. I'm crying and the veterinarian with blonde hair says that she's gonna charge me for my pet being there... Deciding on whether putting my pet down was the right choice.. This decision isn't easy and this lady was awful about giving me any time..I am in the room saying my goodbyes to my pet and she comes in and disturbs me asking if I need more time... Says its $1500 for a urinary blockage and isn't the least bit caring... I also was asked to sign an agreement which I wasn't dumb enough to because I wanted to speak to the veterinary first regarding costs... This place is very misleading and they do not care for animals or you... Do not trust these evil people RID: 46227

7/16/12   2     2     1     1   The vet on my dog's case (not the student) had no bedside manner. He was cold and came off as uncaring. He had a smile on his face, telling me as I'm in tears, that my dog's case is very unusual and every intern and vet on shift has looked at the case and has scratched their heads. That was the only time I saw him smile during our interactions. He called me at midnight, going on about CPR and resuscitation... my heart dropped. Turns out he was calling about a formality form all owners needs to sign before being admitted. He didn't apologize for calling at midnight nor did he state that my dog was FINE before strangely rambling on about resuscitation of my dog! I received no updates on important matters - all of his probable diagnosis were unlikely (he said it himself) yet he ordered tests upon tests - I took my dog home and to another vet- the UofS failed to notice simple symptoms that I noticed right away upon having him home. and to the other vet hospital. RID: 35687
Click to report rating    7/16/12   1     1     1     1   It's too bad this is the only place open for emergencies. I have no problem paying whatever I need to pay to make sure my pet is healthy, however, I feel this is a money gauge. I brought my dog into the clinic two days after she got spayed due to sickness, I told them what kind of medication she was on. They kept her for the night and gave her some fluids and sent me home with meds saying they didn't know what was wrong. I asked if these new meds could be combined with other meds given post spay surgery, the doctor didn't even answer me. I had to call my own vet when they opened and they said it was possible her original meds is what caused the upset. $600 later for no answers, and no thought to the meds she was on. Very impersonal, makes you pay before you can see your pet. Unfriendly and cold. If this is a teaching place, perhaps they should teach some bedside manners. I also had same issues with my late cat and given the option, I would take pets elsewhere. RID: 35677
Click to report rating    7/4/12   1     1     1     1   This was the worst experience we ever had with our animals. For starters everyone was rude. They did not have any acceptable answers regarding the odds of survival for our dog who had a ruptured ulcer. Each vet we spoke with had a different answer with the odds ranging from 10% to 50% -60% chance of survival...a ridiculous difference in opinions. Our dog was clearly agitated and in pain and wanted to be close to us and they were far from understanding and would not let us stay for the examination. There was not a kind word from any one of them and to make it all worse they were abrupt, cold and acted as if we were an inconvenience. They treated our poor sick pet in the same way! RID: 35433
Click to report rating    6/11/12   1     1     3     1   The examining room was filthy, my cat came out with more fur than he started. The resident (Lemetayer) had such poor communication skills and 'owner bedside' manners, it threw our entire household into chaos, cost me hundreds of dollars in vet bills to take my other cat elsewhere so I could get straight answers and also someone my cat wasn't terrified of. Ultimately we lost one cat. Whether it was due to her lack of knowledge or just her inability to communicate her findings and knowledge, i believe she is directly responsible. Needless to say, my other cat will never set foot in this clinic. Between insanitary conditions and my experience dealing with this resident vet I'd go elsewhere. RID: 34908
Click to report rating    5/4/12   1     1     1     1   I have had both good and bad experiences but what happened today - I will NEVER go back to the U of S Clinic. I brought my rabbit in to emergency at 4 am and was reluctant to hand her over to anyone but a rabbit vet, I told them this, and they told me they just wanted to stabalize her till the vet got there. I was not told a rabbit vet was not coming in, but a dog and cat vet. What she did messed my rabbit up, caused her pain, and she could not do the necessary surgery so I had to wait for 4 hours for a rabbit vet to call me.. she tried her best but my rabbit had been through such an ordeal already and waited so long that by the time they put her under anesthesia to operate, her little body couldn't handle anymore and her heart stopped. The secretaries were rude on the phone and in person. The morning vet did not communicate to the rabbit vet what my bunny had already gone through. I was told I'd have to wait an hour and I waited much longer. Now she is dead, and so are the two babies. RID: 34015
Click to report rating    4/8/12   4     4     3     5   I have taken all my pets here and have had no problems whatsoever! It is a teaching hospital, so you will meet students, and interns that are still learning. What I find ridiculous is that people on here complain about multiple tests, uncertain diagnoses and/or no definitive treatment plan. Well if you don't understand medicine what you may not know is: You CANNOT and SHOULD NOT treat an animal for some ailment you don't know the cause of!! Unknown diagnoses happen A LOT - it is NOT the fault of the medical staff. It is biology, it is medicine. These are not vehicles we're talking about, they are LIVING ANIMALS! The science of medicine is not cut and dry. It may be frustrating for you, but it is equally frustrating for the veterinarians. The Small Animal Clinic is NOT a money grab, they offer competitive pricing! Living in Canada we have NO IDEA what healthcare costs. You take your pets to a vet hospital and complain you're being fleeced? Get real! RID: 33407
Click to report rating    2/27/12   1     3     2     1   My own Vet concluded in 5 mins that my dog had a polyp that can either be banded off or surgically removed. He than explained that either way it would have to be done at the U of S as he did not have the tools at his small clinic to do it. Than it started..even though we said we didn't want the lump tested before or after the procedure and just wanted it removed they of course had to put him under and do two tests, both with the same conclusion (polyp). Than we take him in for his operation...drop him off and they explain that they need to do more tests prior to surgery and test the polyp post surgery and if we decline than they won't do it at all! I love my dog very much and $$ is not the issue here. The fact that I feel he's being used as a guinee pig and some how I'm backed into a corner cause there using him to pull out my wallet for their benefit pisses me off!! A real Vet is here to help animals, not put them through unnecassary tests. RID: 32515
Click to report rating    2/27/12   2     3     2     3   Tests test and more unnecessary test money****you! Even when you request no more testing. Rude even when you say no thank-you to unnecessary treatments or tests. Example anal polyps after doing a byopsy and testing its fluids they still needed to do an entire body X-ray. when all tests before came back good. Then still want to test the mass after removing it. They told me they would not do surgery if the couldn't test it after. Never again! Something faily simple is turning into a complicated mess my poor boxer boy In the middle! Cost is going to be about $2000. Think twice before you take your animal there. They have a reason for everything and don't take no for an answer. Stressful to say the least. RID: 32511
Click to report rating    1/17/12   4     5     4     5   As a tech student that has gone through the WCVM, I find that people don't seem to realize that this clinic is the only referral clinic in the province and the fees are under what I have seen in Calgary. My clinic has had issues with the reception staff and that is all. The doctors are wonderful and give free consults to other vets that call or email. I guess all I can really say to the people that say the prices are too high is that you get what you pay for. The animals are checked on hourly at a minimum, whereas some clinics leave animals unattended overnight. And if other thoughtless people didn't skip out on their bills and/or leave their pets there for good vet hospitals wouldn't have to demand money up front with emergencies. It is still a business!  9/18/11   2     4     1     2   I've been here several times for exotics and emergency services and have had more bad than good experiences. Several years ago when my cat had a urinary blockage, he was seen by an excellent intern. That was really the only positive experience I had. Another time a student told me that my cat might have had no kidney function, but not to worry (it was likely a faulty test strip, my cat is fine). I have had mostly negative experience in bringing my reptiles/amphibians there. The exotics head, Dr Parker, is ok, but I had a bad experience with the newest intern. She knew nothing about the species I brought in, which I understand, but I spent 3 hours waiting and then she later copped an attitude on the phone. My regular veterinarian, who normally doesn't see exotics, was much more helpful. Bottom line - I avoid the SAC at all costs. Although there are some excellent, caring people who work here, there are just too many cooks in the kitchen and communication and care of pets suffers. RID: 27694

8/21/11   5     4     5     5   I don't have any idea what kind of place these people are reviewing, but I have to say I didn't experience any of those horror stories. Today, a sunday, I had to give up a long time friend who was 18 years old as she finally lost the battle of time and had to be put down. When I had to make the phonecall, the receptionist who answered was gentle with her voice and seemed to choose her words so I wouldn't become upset. When I arrived, the receptionist was at her desk and had me fill in the paperwork, while she held my cat and comforted her as best as possible. When it came time, the student doctor gave me the obvious choice of being there or not (which I stayed), as well the doctor asked again to see if I had resolved my choice. The doctor brought her to me, I said my good byes, she administered the medicine gently, and that was that. She did this on her day off, and I couldn't thank her enough. $120 for her to come in is nothing for the compassion and kindness she showed me. RID: 27073

7/6/11   1     1     1     1   I had to take my dog who was only 4 months old here as my regular vet thought she needed to have a scope done on her throat. I waited 3 hours crying in the waiting area while I got dirty looks from staff, I then went to counter and waited for at least 30 mins right in front of several staff who never responded when I asked about my dog or tried to get their attention. My dog went in because my regular vet thought she may have something stuck in her throat (small as she was still breathing fine) and she died of congestive heart failure. The staff was VERY cold, wanted money money money and charged me 650 dollars to say there was nothing they could do and then I was billed another 51.60 a few months later??? For no apparent reason. I will never return to this clinic. RID: 26045

Click to report rating    3/10/11   4     4     3     2   Testing seems to be their priority. My parents paid over 7000.00 in x'rays, ultra sounds, blood work, etc. etc. They finally decided to do surgery to see if they could see what was wrong with the dog. My parents were continually asked for more money for more tests. Two days after the surgery, their beloved dog passed away from complications of the surgery. Nothing was ever found, they received no answers and are heart broken they put their boy through all of this. RID: 23445
Click to report rating    2/20/11   5     5     5     4   To begin w, I've had at least 3 experiences w/ the clinic over the past few years. 2 out of the 3 dealings were w/ my late dog. The first experience w/ my dog, was kind of not the best. Not that any harm was done, just not enough communication, for what should of been done. Would say it was Dr. fault for the lack of communication. But now this time, July of 2010, w/ my late dog, it was a total different story, the tests, the care, the compassion shown to us will not be forgotten. Thanks to Dr.s Val MacDonald, her asst. Kirsty and Dr. Stephanie Bolduc-Beaulieu. Very caring & compassionate group. As far as fees, an ultra sound done there , was cheaper fee than the one in my regular vet clinic, which was just done the prior day. RID: 23028
Click to report rating    1/28/11   2     1     3     1   I took my dog there as an emergency for mucus discharge from the nose and persistent coughing, lack of interest in food/water and lethargic. After 2 days and numerous test they discharged him and told me "they dont know what is wrong" and that they would recommend doing more tests. At this point my bill was already 1600.00 and no treatment was admistered, just 'tests' and those tests lead to nothing. The performed a 600.00 CT Scan that I did not authorize and therefore refused to pay for. I had explicitly told them NOT to do the CT scan because the vet herself said it was not necessary at this time. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. The staff/vets are cold and do not seem compassionate. It was literally 1600.00 for them to tell me they dont know what is wrong! that is ridiculous. not once did they attempt to treat. just kept PUSHING more and more expensive tests. And i LOVE my pets and money is not an option if results follow. Precious treatment time was wasted. NOT NOT TAKE YOUR PET THERE! RID: 22446
Click to report rating    12/15/10   5     5     4     3   I am a little shocked at the comments on this site. I took my cat to the Arlington Animal Hospital, they charged me $700 just to tell me they couldn't figure out what was wrong with my cat and that it would cost about $160 to put him down. He spent 3 days locked in a kennel and they didn't even do any tests. I took him out of there and to the university and within 4 hours they told me he had a very bad urinary tract infection. They performed lots of tests to ensure there was nothing else wrong, gave me the medication, and sent me off. This is a year later and my cat is better than ever. BTW - the cost of my vet visit here was $330 - (less than half of the other place, and 10x the service, and my cat is alive and well) Well worth the money! The staff were courteous and helpful, and everything seemed clean and bright to me. Good experience for me and my kitty! : ) Thank you! RID: 21427
Click to report rating    5/11/10   1     2     1     1   I have had too many bad experiences at the U of S to mention. I highly recommend you never take your pet there. I have had 2 pets die while in their care. They never contacted me except to send me a bill for cremation services. When I wanted to visit my dieing dog, they would not let me see him. When a specialist saw my female, he was extremely rude, discourteous and abrupt with me plus he was extremely rough with my dog. My husband and I will never go there again under any circumstances. Horrible, considering they are supposed to be a teaching facility. The staff seems to always want to take your pet behind the scenes and not allow you to go with the pet. What is that all about? Click to report rating    4/23/10   1     4     1     1   Cost of appointments is comparable to other clinics in the city, and not reflective of a teaching facility or buisness that receives donations/funding. The exotic vets are the worst I have ever experienced in 3 cities. Birds are left sitting in a cold steel weighing container while a history is taken, stressful handling goes on far to long- when breaks are needed, The head of the service- Dr parker didn't even know what kind of bird I had.. If you can even identify a species, how can you possibly know anything about it's requirements. I also brought a duck with a broken wing in for care/euthanasia one morning and when I called at the end of the day (8 hours later) it was still sitting in the box with no food or water suffering. NEVER TAKE YOUR BIRDS THERE. RID: 17651
Click to report rating    3/24/10   1     1     1     1   Very Expensive. For emergency cases they will not even start treating until you pay 50% of whatever ridiculus quote they give you. My dog was hit by a car and they quoted me $2400-2800 before they even took exrays and expected me to pay right then. When I didnt have my purse they said I would have to take her and come back. Brutal. They should all be wounded and then made to wait outside the hospital. Cold, impersonal to say the least. I thought my dog was going to die and they were just worried that they would start a procedure and then not get paid. Then they had the audacity to call me at 8pm on a Sunday night to say that they needed more money asap or they would quit treating her. Like I was supposed to pack up my kids at bedtime and drive down there to pay, or like even banks are open at that time. NEVER TAKE YOUR DOG HERE! RID: 17218

They also don't treat patients until they have a 100% confirmed diagnosis (which means a lot of test$$$, most of which are unnecessary). My initial quote was $700-900...within 24hrs, they requoted me $1500. Pulled my puppy out immediately and took him to Westward where the vet felt he was suffering pneumonia. Gave him anti-biotics (which the U of S didn't do for 3 days) and within 24hrs, my puppy was making a recovery at a cost SIGNIFICANTLY less than the U of S. I basically spent $1130.00 so that their students can use my pooch as a guinea pig. They didn't heed my concerns (about my puppy obtaining an illness from doggie daycare) and wasted my money, not bothering to perform a basic bacterial test (but pressuring me to consider a test for cancerous cells). Disgusted. RID: 17091
Click to report rating    11/28/09   4     5     2     1   Very overpriced, even for emergency care. My animals are my life, and I will pay any price to ensure they're healthy, but that doesn't mean I enjoy being gouged or guilt-tripped into unnecessary procedures. I find that they will quote you an exorbitantly high fee, and when you agree to pay it, it will usually end up costing less, almost as if they want to placate you into thinking you got a deal. Still the doctors are excellent and the facilities are very high end. I'd use them in an emergency only. RID: 15488
Click to report rating    11/1/09   2     3     1     1   Their costs are OUTRAGEOUS. We took our Dog in after normal hours when she was showing signs of an intestinal blockage. The vet and 4th year student were not interested in hearing her history. An xray and bloodwork were done but since the ultrasound technician was not there, they recommended that she should stay over night for IV fluids at a ridiculous cost and have the u/s in the am. We were told to expect a call early regarding her condition but did not receive one til after noon. They had not done the ultrasound and by that time our bill was nearing $700.00. We decided take her to our normal vet (Central Animal Hospital.) The 4th year student gave us a horrible guilt trip for taking the dog before the tests were finished and told us she didn't believe we were taking her to another vet. Within a couple of hours at Central, she had her ultrasound, was diagnosed and given meds at a far more reasonable cost. RID: 15147
Click to report rating    10/5/09   4     4     1     1   For a teaching hospital with state of the art equipment, a standard adrenal surgery on a ferret was quoted at well over a thousand dollars. Vets in other cities (Calgary for example) can do it for under $500 and that's a private clinic. Some vets there are great but most are after running needless tests instead of utilizing their top end equipment. Very disappointed with their treatment of ferrets; they couldn't identify that my 8 year old male had cancer; kept giving me drugs for him even though I was sure it was lymphoma or adrenal. Finally took him to Lawson where they proved he had cancer in about 5 minutes. So much needless suffering because of their incompetance/willingness to LISTEN TO THEIR PATIENTS. Prices do NOT reflect a teaching hospital. RID: 14539
Click to report rating    1/16/09   3     5     3     2   I once called the emergency service at 4 am about a dog that was having seizures. I spoke with a live person who took a message, but no one returned my call. I've also taken one of my dogs in twice for emergencies. The staff had no interest in the dog's medical history and gave me unsolicited advice about the dog's general health, which, had they asked, was already being looked after. I agree about the guilt trips. The second time we went, we lucked out with a fabulous 4th year student, but the resident who followed up was cold, unempathetic, unhelpful, and made me feel like a moron. I did not take my dog back for a follow-up as instructed. The one really good thing is that they provide you with detailed written instructions. RID: 11263
Click to report rating    7/11/08   5     5     4     4   For being a teaching hospital they do a good job. I have only had to wait an hour in the waiting room once to pick up an animal and that is only because they had just turned cases over to new interns and it has hard to get ahold of the new intern. They were excellent at treating a rescue dog who was in my care. They need to work on their organization and communication skills as I had called after hours and a vet did not get back to me at all; I had to get ahold of a different vet to see my dog in an emergency (it was better than having to sit in the emergency room). If I was paying for the service in the end I would have been more upset. Their fees for services are excellent except for microchiping (they are costly). RID: 9269
Click to report rating    2/9/07   4     5     4     2   This is the only avian vet currently available in Saskatchewan and they treat all exotics. They are a teaching college and the prices don't adequately reflect this. The science and technology available, however, is above par. This is one of the largest veterinary colleges in the world and the best in Canada. Bring a book with you, you might be sitting more than you like. RID: 2785
