Waited 6 hours on a Sunday, start to finish. I understand they were busy but 6 hours??? Finally gave me my dog 1/2 hour after paying. The tech handed me the dog and a bag of pills. Not one person told me his Lymes test came back positive. Thankfully I’m a nurse and when I paid the bill saw a charge for antibiotics and assumed his test was positive. After waiting 6 hours and paying over 400$ for my dog to be seen and run one blood test, I expect to be told what’s wrong with him, things I need to look for ect…. Very disorganized!! For what they are charging things could be run much better. Really disappointed. That being said the staff were very nice.

Quite literally the worst care my pet has ever received. We had two major incidents involving our dog one which caused major injury to the pet and the second put him in a life threatening situation. You do not want to bring your dog to this hospital!!!

Two bad experiences with this facility. Our 12 yr old German shepherd was brought there for a nose bleed that could not be stopped or diagnosed. They had no problem running test after test ...oh and hitting my credit card each time. Giving me no results. Needless to say we packed up the dog and rushed him to Univ of Penna Vet Hospital. The second time was for our puppy who was diagnosed with pancreatic insuffiency right before a holiday. He needed meds on his food. The only place our vet could find it was at this clinic. The panacare runs about $100 to $150 a bottle. These people had the gall to charge me $250. Can you say price gouging.

I was not impressed at all. I saw a dr there who was pushing for a surgical biopsy on my cat which was very very risky do to the location..the dr had also wanted an mri done at close to 3000 dollars...(i had already done a cat scan at another facility). Doing either one of these things was not going to change my outcome..it would only confirm what they thought was the diagnosis..i wasn't going to risk killing my cat with a surgery. In the end my vet was able to get an accurate diagnosis with a needle biopsy without hurting my cat. I got my answer with no risk to my pet. I personally didn't think this was one of the better animal hospitals.

My dog had surgery to remove a tumor in May 2010 by Dr. Cabel, the surgery seemed to have gone well except they discharged my dog with a MRSA infection in her chest at the site of the surgery. I took my dog to the ER 3 times before they decided to do a culture, after 3 weeks from discharge, she was readmitted for surgery to remove the affected site. Not only they did not take responsibility for the infection, but they even stated that they had 5 or 6 other dogs that had the same infection before mine. In fact, I know of a couple whose dog was infected when he had orthopedic surgery there the year before and died shortly thereafter. One extremely bad experience that almost took my dog's life and their attitude of no-big deal including watching my dog almost die for 3 weeks until they got their act together to make the diagnosis will be enough not to go there ever again!

I was referred to Dr Jerry Northington and of course not knowing him or the facility went a little google crazy this site seemed the most helpful (having the most reviews) but the reviews are either terrible or great so I figure I would add one that may help put someone else at ease, that is probably sad and scared putting the life of there dog in a strangers hands(as i was because i love my dog hes my baby). The staff was super friendly and Dr Northington was an angel he was compassionate, listened to me and answered any questions I had and he was straight forward with me when telling me my options and wasn't pushy because lets be honest what most of us are going there for we know isn't going to be cheap and we shouldn't want it to be.I want to know that my dog is in care of top docs!My dog had an MR todayI which cost me 1925 and needs back surgery which will cost me 5000.The MRI went without incident and i will post when he has his surgery. But my heart goes out to those who lost pets

i have been so pleased with dr.cabell and the staff of mva. she previosly treated my dog for a degenerative back and now will perform acl surgery on my big mutt. i have done alot of research for his upcoming surgery and dr.cabell is the most inviting, intuitive vet i have encountered.she has given me all the options and i feel most comfortable with this vet practice. yes, they are very expensive but for the seriousness of surgery why risk your dog to anything but the best.

Metropolitan saved my dog's life on two different occasions. My dog had an intestinal obstructions and my normal veterinarian took 10 days to diagnose the problem. When she finally did operate my dog got a life threatening infection and they told us to rush him to Metropolitan with about a 50% survival rate. Metro managed to save him but he lost 18 inches of intestines. A year and a half later, he had adhesions from scar tissue of the previous surgeries so his intestines were in knots. They immediately took him in for surgery and broke down the scar tissue. They take care of your dogs 24/7, keeping constant watch, and giving them lots of love. Some of the vets are better than others. I would recommend Dr. Schwab, Dr. Niles, and Dr. Vanessa.

MVA Emergency Service staff saved my dog's life?. I will be forever grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Metropolitan Veterinary Associates -Emergency Services. I took my 5 lb Yorkie to another vet hospital first, they realized that they could not save her and referred me to MVA. I drove my yorkie to MVA in the middle of the night, she arrived at the hospital at 4:00AM with a pulse rate of 34 (normal rate is 140-150). Dr. Buckman quickly assessed her condition and began treatment. Over the next 36 hours, my yorkie received outstanding personalized care by Dr. Heckscher, nurses (Vanessa), and staff. I am so happy to say that my puppy has fully recovered. Had it not been for the staff of MVA, I am certain that I would have lost my yorkie. I confidently recommend MVA to anyone who loves their pet and wants the very best for them.

This is an interesting rating website. Seems feedback is either great or really bad. I've had 2 surgical experiences with Metropolitan. First with Dr. Nannos and most recently with Dr. Niles for soft tissue work. The work performed both times had excellent outcomes. My dogs were well cared for and we came home with very specific instructions for after care. Both times the Dr's. called several times after surgery and made themselves available for questions. They are very expensive but not out of range of other veterinary clinics and unlike some of their colleages with a lower level of integrity (Fairfax, PA), they provided an itemized estimate for the work within minutes of our request for a breakdown. I will continue to bring my dog's to Metropolitan even though we are an hour and a half away and it's not convenient at all for us. We want the best care and we get that at Metropolitan.

I brought my dog to this facility because my vet said he needed surgery on his knee. After being examined by the surgeon she determined that it was actually his hip. Instead of pushing for an expensive surgery she gave me all the options available which included medical management. My dog may still need surgery, but he is comfortable at this time. The staff was extremely nice, helpful and curteous. When he does get his surgery it will be at Metropolitan because I have confidence in their doctors and staff.

I have had all 3 of my dogs to metro and have had nothing but wonderful experiences. It is true that they are much more expensive than a regular vet, but you get what you pay for.The staff is great and very friendly, and the vets have been nothing but caring to my dogs. I find it very hard to believe what people are posting here. I have many friends go there also to see different vets and not one has been disapointed. I would and will go back to see the vets at metro.

Don't let the glitzy facility fool you into thinking high quality, competent care is given here.My dog was admitted for simple fluid therapy. The staff did not monitor her and she was overloaded with fluid. When I visited her she clearly showed signs of fluid overload.I called a vet over and she said there was nothing wrong. It took me an hour to convince them to take her from her cage and examine her. They took my dog to another room and came back and tersely reported that she needs an emergency diuretic to remove fluid from her lungs. They administered the diuretic and again kept her overnight. She looked even worse the next morning and I insisted on her discharge.A vet pulled her down the hall toward me,stumbling and falling as she could barely walk at this point. She died the next day, having spent her final two days caged with an e-collar,alone in an uncaring place.A simple treatment could not even be properly managed here, instead resulting in unnecessary death. STAY AWAY from MetroVet.

We came over from Gwynend, another hospital. The other hospital did nothing but test, but they called for the next three days to follow up. Went here had a rinoscopy and biopsy, called then the day after I picked up my pet only to get a hard time from the receptionist telling me no one from internally medicine was there that day. Called again later and asked to speak to a vet tech on duty, got the third degree untill they put one on. I thought they were good, but now I think I may go elsewhere when I get the results.

I had a fantastic experience at Metropolitan and they saved my dog's life. They were there for me in the middle of the night (open 24 hours a day), and their knowledge, compassion and caring made all the difference. I can never thank them enough!

I took my dog to Metropolitan for a life threatening emergency. The staff was extremely competant and caring. The facilities were clean and impressive. The doctors were efficient and very clear about the best course of treatment and explained to me what my options were. They were very understanding about my financial situation and gave my pet the best care. I will definately use them in the future if the need arises.

I have only been to Metropilitan Veterinary Associates one time. I am the founder of Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue and my foster dog got terrible seizures. We visited Dr. Jerry Northington, the neurologist, at this facility and he did wonders for Zorro. I was very happy with the time he took with Zorro and myself. I had access to e-mail him with questions after our visit and was always responded to promptly. Zorro's life changed 100% for the better after our visit. I cannot speak to any other services there, but I recommend Dr. Northington highly.

If looking for an emergency vet, I would look elsewhere. Our cat had been neutered, surgery dehisced(stitches broke) his intestines had fallen out. Took him there, while waiting for vet,an attendant came out with "parcel" - something(presumably post mortem pet)wrapped in paper and bound with duct tape, only a simple "here" verbalized as it was handed over to the owner. Finally vet came out, told us our cat didn't have much of a chance, not worth operating, advised putting cat to sleep. We insisted he try to help the cat,he demanded maximum amount of surgery fee+ up front, cash/credit card only. While we were on phone trying to find another emergency vet (waiting for them to bring our cat back out to us), someone else was getting the same euthanization speech we got. I left $350 poorer, our cat would not be turned back over to us till we had paid.Their fees were not mentioned beforehand by them. Luckily I got him to another emergency vet, the cat is alive and doing well!

My seizure dog was treated by the a specialist at this facility. The specialist did not care about the dog's previous blood work, did not care about the medication the dog was on and did not care that the animal was already susceptible to liver disease. He prescribed Rimadyl for a minor sprain. I was not given any warnings about the medication, nor was I provided with a Client Information Sheet regarding the side effects of Rimadyl. When his abdomen started swelling, I was then charged almost $1000 for them to determine what was wrong - chronic liver disease. With his medical history and recent blood work, he should never have been prescribed Rimadyl. The result was that he had to be put to sleep. Be forwarned!
