10 yrs ago I rushed my 2 yr old cat there because he suddenly couldn't breathe (necropsy showed he had cardiomyopathy). He was there less than 2 days and fell into a coma. I was called in by the attending vet(Dr. Tom Garg who left the practice shortly after my cats death). He recommended euthanasia. He led us to the room that had 25 or so critical care dogs and cats, all kept together in 1 room with 1 vet! Loud rock music was blasting on the radio, as if to drown out the howls and yowls. I shocked and sickened by that. My cat's euthanasia also went horribly wrong. The 1st shot sent our comatose cat into a horrid seizure, sounds coming from him like a dying goose. We ran and got the dr. who had left us alone to say our goodbyes. It was clear this young vet was overwhelmed and it took a second shot to our cat's heart to stop his suffering. Final insult was the receptionist who yelled at us for offering a personal chk instead of a cc. Hard to think right when you have been traumatized!

In 2 yrs I had trouble seeing the same vet twice, and since there are so many vets there, Recently I took my 7 y/o Lhasa Apso in to see a specialist about hip problems. The vet didn't even touch him; she watched him walk around the room twice and shockingly recommended surgery. The vet said only that surgery was the best option, left 10min after she arrived, and handed me a large bill. I got a 2nd opinion and was given options from supplements to a different exercise routine to surgery. The receptionists are very rude. I went to buy my Frontline there right before the incident with my Lhasa. I asked for the same stuff they dogs always get, expecting to pay $200. The lady swiped my card and asked me to sign for $400. After a little back-and-forth she finally admitted that they don't carry "regular" Frontline anymore, just "Plus" which is in fact double the price. I said I'd go get the Frontline elsewhere. The lady replied in a snotty voice "you can't, so sign here."

This Vet Hospital is HORRENDOUS!!!! I cannot believe I have wasted the last several years of care with these heartless, cruel and unprofessional people. I was there today, and I saw Dr. Erica Tramuta. She was the last straw. Beyond the front desk staff, and outrageous prices, they didn't help my cat the first time I went for his Ear infection 2 weeks ago, but this time I had to listen to her berate me, and attack me as though I was an unfit owner who doesn't care for her cat's health. From the moment she walked in the room her bad attitude was overwhelming, and when I actually started to cry because she was so awful, she was like what is your problem? I told her she had a horrible attitude, and a horrendous bedside manner and she actually said, "well you don't have to see me the next time you come" I told her don't worry I won't be back. It took me 2 hours to calm down after the appointment, and I called and demanded my records and told them I would never be back and I would be

I was just informed that Dr. Beth Henry has left OMV. I have used them for all of my pets for over thirty years, Dr. Henry being our clear favorite of them all. She treated our last golden mix most of his life and she was unbelievably kind and loving as we went through the process of losing him to kidney failure three years ago. I received phonecalls at home numerous times, and a few specifically were for for my own emotional health! We were able to visit him while he was inpatient getting hydrated. I could not make an appointment yesterday for our 3 y/o goldens who know only Dr. Henry and adore her. (I think she adores them too). I was told she is working closer to home so if I have to make a thousand phonecalls to local vets, I will!! Reading this blog encourages me to mention the horrendous thing we witnessed the night we had to put our Orion down. The attending doc actually flicked his eyeball to verify his death. IN FRONT OF US! Just unbelievable...goodbye OMV.

Had a terrible experience with my mom's dog at the emergency vet here. After one night, we went and took him out of there and took him to our own vet. He was better within a day of going there. It has now been two weeks, and after spending $1000, we can't even get them to fax over the test results to our vet. They assured us that they were going to send them immediately when they came in. I am now on my third call trying to get them sent. When my mom's dog was there, they would refused to speak with her vet and give them any information. I was very disappointed in this hopsital and will NEVER return! On a different note, for the person who is looking for Dr. Henry, I found her. I have started taking my dogs to Wellington Vet Hopsital. I just called to schedule an appointment for them and they gave me an appointment with Dr. Henry who came there from Old Marple.

I absolutely loved Dr. Beth Henry and now she is another Vet who bit the dust at Marple. I said that if Dr. Henry leaves, I am done with Marple. She was the only reason why I was still taking my dog there. I can't say that I have had any problems with the front desk though, they have all been very kind to me but I especially do not like Dr. Tyson. I stopped seeing him a long time ago because I felt he was very cold and uncaring. Dr. Henry is an excellent doctor and she was very caring and returned my calls very faithfully. She was the only vet who had answers for my shepherd's problems. And she has tried so hard to work with me in solving my dog's problems. And now she is gone and I feel so abandoned. Something is very suspicious about so many doctors leaving this place and they were all good doc's. Dr. Wilmer was another good vet who bit the dust. If I knew where Dr. Henry has gone, I would definitely take my dog to her again and continue to get to the bottom of things.

We have been clients of OMV for many many years. Recently though we had an emergency. I brought my dog in for an emergency due to severe constipation and a virtually obstructed bowel(caused by a tumor -which required surgery elsewhere due to its complicated nature.) The vet on duty, Dr. Nicholas Rose, was extremely caring, concerned, and knowledgeable. He resolved the immediate problem, made my dog who was quite sick at the time very comfortable and kept me well informed at all times with many phone calls. He was a pleasure to deal with on the phone and in person. He took his time when discussing her condition and was very thorough. Due to his care of the immediate emergency situation my dog recovered enough to have the subsequent successful tumor removal surgery at a later date .

I have worked as a Vet. receptionist at 2 other practices for many yrs. I can verify that the Receptionists need much more sensitivity training/education. There is no excuse for misinformation & rudenss when the client questions that info. I had just brought my cat home, who got sick from a med they gave; the receptionist did not listen & told me to give my vomitting cat some boiled meat for a day! She would not let me communicate w/ the attending Vet or to see my cat's chart! That's Very Poor Business Practice! I have been a long-time client of Dr. Henry's otherwise I wouldn't patronize this business AT ALL. Dr. Tyson not only mismanages his policies, but HIS GREED IS EXPLOITATIVE. Price shop before you agree to supplies that cost twice the amt! When I asked for a Script, Dr. Tyson declined authorization for it. Being a large Vet practice, THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR THE PRICE GOUGING. Numerous times I've been wrongly charged for food/meds, services NOT done, given the Wrong Medicine!

This is a booming business. I have been going to Old Marple Veterinary Hospital for about 20 years but I have decided to seek another Veterinary Hospital. Apparently they are more interested in moving as many folks through as they can than providing personal services to keep you. They may be busy but that is no excuse.
Getting convenient scheduling is near impossible. You are most often referred to the more expensive "emergency" services if you cannot find convenient appointment. You may wait in the office for hours waiting for that emergency service too. My GREATEST complaint about this Hospital is the POOR attitude and treatment one receives from the front desk. It is unprofessional, rude, and inept. Extremely verbally abusive on the telephone and in-person. A while back, my daughter, who was traveling 15 miles to continue using Old Marple Veterinary Hospital was told to seek services elsewhere from a gnarly front desk receptionist. She obliged.

STAY AWAY!!! The vet who owns this place is rude and is not a good vet! I used to like some of the vets who worked here but the only 2 good ones left and started their own practice! When I tried to get my records for the new place to follow the doctors I liked Old marple refused to release my records and Dr. Tyson called me at home and gave me a hard time about not going to him anymore!!! I will NOR be going back! And by the way, the place smells bad.

Protect your beloved pet and your own sanity and self respect. Unprofessional, rude, inept and extremely cruel front desk staff. Extremely verbally abusive, uncaring and often inept on the telephone and in-person. I so wish I had read the reviews before taking my pet there. When I tried to speak with my pet's doctor today, I was told that the vet was only an employee and he would not talk with me. Please protect your pet and yourself from these greedy folks who have NO interest in your pet. Take your pet and your hard-earned money to a different vet clinic or animal hospital where they treat you with courtesy, dignity and respect.

I just took my boxer in after Memorial Day for an emergency. He had a 107 temp and needed a blood tranfusion. If it wasn't for the staff at Old Marple he would have died that night. They diagnosed a tumor on his spleen and he is in surgery today. Dr. Shelley has been terrific. She is kind and thorough. If people think that they are only after money, then I don't know why she would insist that if we felt we couldn't financially afford to go forward that we should not feel guilty and that they would help us make him as comfortable as possible. They have taken wonderful care of our dog from day one. It's like any place even the local hospital....you are going to run into people who have horrible bedside manner or who are not that good. It happened to me at the hospital. It's not an indication of the entire facility. We've been there many times in the past few weeks and we have had only the best care for our beloved dog.

I just heard that Dr. Niggemeier & Dr. Lockhart left Old Marple to go work at Wellington Veterinary Hospital. Good for them!!! Now people will see the true colors of Old Marple! When I called to have my records prepared for me to pick up, I received a call back from Dr. Tyson himself at 9:30 at night telling me how stupid I was for switching vets-he called me an idiot, stupid, and a few other derogatory names. He's the stupid one-NOBODY should go there for vet care he doesn't care about animals, he cares about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

This place is horrendous. I had to take my pug there for an emergency and the staff was very unprofessional, cold and insensitive. They didn't even diagnose my dog correctly. The vet was some young guy who was clearly inexperienced. When we realized my dog wasn't getting any better we called to ask the vet a question and he refused to talk to us and to top it all off we had to speak to the rudest receptionist, who clearly had no class whatsoever. This place needs to be shut down along with the staff in it. PLEASE take your pets elswhere if you love them.

Horible veterinary Hospital I ever been too My German shepherd of 11 years was put down there due to cancer, the veterian was very cold and could not wait to shove the bill in our faces before we even said good bye to her, on top of that they charge me for a extra day when she was only in their for one night and then gone. before the dogs are exaimie they make sure that you pay them up front, they where extermely cold about our feelings we could not even look at the bill because I was too busy crying about my dog, her name was diamond 11 year old german shepherd (she walked in my soul forever). This place too business like! and they dont even care about you or your dog as long as you pay the bill on the spot. My son has friend that works ther in the broading kennel and no taxs are taken out of the personal check that they get and somtimes they even forget give you the pay check for a week or two terible ......good luck for anyone who takes their pet their.

I have had 6 animals there for their Emergency Care, and have 1 survivor. I breed my Chihuahuas, and I took my 2 and a half year old Chihuahua, Star, there for an emergency C-Section because she was having difficulty giving birth at 2 am. They let me take Star home mere 4 hours after the surgery, spayed her without my consent, and gave me a care packet on ABANDONED KITTENS. They never told me Star would not produce milk for up to 72 hours after a C-Section, and the puppies started weakening. We brought them back there, and they told me I could bring Star home with me while they kept the puppies. One by one, the 4 puppies died. After the 4th one, I asked why they had all died, and the girl without missing a beat and with no emotion in her voice said, "Oh, we left them in the incubator too long." Then she had the gall to tell me to come in and pay the bill for the care of the four deceased puppies! STAY AWAY FROM OLD MARPLE!

We took our dog on a 45 mile ride to Old Marple just recently cause I had used them years ago before I had moved , upon arriving I could see that the change there was drastic .. the welcome feeling was gone and it seemed more like a business than the caring practice I once knew
We were there for a second opinion and received that and our dog had to go so I left the building and my wife stayed to pay the bill , when she came out I asked how much it was and her reply was $175 and change ... WHAAAAT I asked .. for what ?... it was only a 15 minute verbal consultation with no tests run or meds given ..give me that bill I says
Turns out they added on two tests that apparently had been done when I blinked in the office ? I sent my wife back in and sure enough it was a test that had been " accidentally " put on the bill by the doctor , she told my wife she forgot to take them off ? oh ... but she did apologize LOL.. that was nice eh
That $125 accident confirmed my first impressio

This hospital was a joke. Don't go. I went because my cat had blood in urine. I only wanted a urine test done. The vet was rude, wiped her runny nose all over her hands then handled my cat, never washing her hands once. (poor hygiene) Vet insisted on extens. blood work and Xray which I had done under pressure. Then stated that their tech wiped up the urine sam. before they could ck it. Insisted that I leave my cat for extensive heart tests, echos, etc. Vet told me I either leave my cat for heart tests or euthanize her. The vet refused to give me my cat back unless I signed a form stating that I refuse to leave the cat under against advise. I was literally robbed with their bill. I wrote them a check and truly felt like a $ sign.Next day, for 8 hrs.I begged a manager or Tyson to take my phone call(s). Office employees gave me a run around beyond belief. Owner return. my call 8 hrs. later and talked over me and could care less. Owner was most arrogant inmy opinion. Horrible Experience.

I took my 9mo chocolate lab to be neutered and 2 hours after I dropped him off they called me saying he was vomiting, bloody stool, lethargic and unresponsive. They ran xrays did blood work and wanted permission for an emergency operation because they thought there was something in his bowels. I already paid $250 and it would have cost another $500 for what they wanted. I refused and when I picked my dog up he was fine. 100% fine! I got home put a stop payment on the check and now am being taken to court. 3 mos later and no issues with the dog. The vet wanted $750 for services rendered and the worst part, they never even neutered him. It may not happen right away, but Old Marple Vet will rip you off.

The staff is disrespectful and down right rude. You can leave a message for a vet and 9x out of 10, the vet won't get it! They talk to customers, like they work for them! The only good thing about this vet is the facilities. The vets are also rude if you disagree with them. I've lost dogs there, due to irresponsible care. AND they are very greedy! They charge too much and make you pay for things that aren't necessary. If you love your pet, your not going to deny it anything the vet says it needs. Last but not least, these vets promote puppy mills, by supporting pet shops that sell animals! They even recommend one in Media. If you love your pet, go somewhere else!

I have been going to Old Marple for almost 30 years. I have never experienced the type of service described in some of the negative reviews. All of the vets that have seen my dogs over the years have been knowledgeable and very compassionate in their care. While there are a good number of vets on the staff, you can ask for a particular one when you make your appointment. I have been seeing Dr. Beth Henry for 8 yrs with my golden. She is an excellent and caring vet and I trust her completely. In her absence I have seen other vets including Dr. Johnson, Dr. Wordley, Dr. Kovath and Dr. Niggenmeir, all who have treated my dog, who is sometimes a real pain, with understanding and kindness. I have had the occasion to call their emergency staff at 3:00 a.m and was given guidance on how to handle my dog's problem so that I could avoid having to bring her in at that awful hour of the morning. They are the greatest!

Last summer I had a young sick kitten who was breathing through her mouth and I rushed her to Old Marple after hours. The staff acted like I was inconveniencing them and the doctor (Indian guy) didn't even talk to me to see what was going on. The tech just took the kitten to the back and the doctor came back awhile later and simply told me how to feed the kitten and sent me away. No x-rays were done and I couldn't believe they expected me to feed a kitten when it could hardly breath. I ended up having to go back later and demanded an x-ray. Why should the client have to tell the doctor what to do??? I ended up leaving the kitten with them so they could give it fluids but it died 2 hours later. Maybe if they had done all that during the first visit, the kitten would not have been so stressed out from the two trips and maybe would have made it.

I have to say, I haven't had the same experiences that the other reviewers had. When I first started going there I would see different Vets, but once I found one that I liked (Dr. Niggemeir) I just requested her when making the appt. and have had no problems. My dog Annie just had to spend a weekend at the hospital for vomitting and although they could not pin point the cause, they allowed my husband and I to visit during non-business hours (they even set us up in an exam room so that we could really spend time with her) and when we missed the emergency vets call we spoke to the receptionist about our need to talk with him (Dr. Johnson), and he called back within an hour. The only thing that I have seen is that their waiting room can move a bit slow at times. Hope that this helps.
