Click to report rating    4/9/21   5     5     5     5   Dr. Gavin Meyers is the best vet I have worked with in Vancouver. Very personable, down-to-earth, and super helpful in difficult situations. He's also very honest, which I appreciate, and has a huge heart! I can't recommend him enough. RID: 69906

10/5/15   1     1     1     1   I am unimpressed with the service. This vet is all about the money and not the pet. The first time we went with our puppy they took her to a different room to get her temp taken, then they gave her the shots but refused to give her the rabies shot because they thought it wasn't needed right away. They then proceeded to give her something we didn't ask for which was apparently an experimental de-wormer without our permission. 2 weeks later we had to go to the vet again because she had contracted round worms. This time it was a different doctor who was assisting us and I told him what happened with the last visit and he seemed puzzled by the fact that they other doctor didn't explain anything to us. We then complained to them about the service that we had and they told us that our next vet visit would be free. Today we brought her in for a check up and they tricked us into paying once again even though they told us that it would be free. RID: 58593

7/13/13   5     5     5     5   Why ask me? My dog knows best. Whenever we have gone to the Yaletown Pet Hospital, she leaps out of the car and drags me on the leash all the way to the front door. She LOVES the place, the staff, the doctors and even the resident cats (okay . . well one of them anyway . . ) Great place! RID: 44550
Click to report rating    7/26/12   4     4     4     1   New client that took my dog in today with a minor skin irritation and an update on vaccines. I was quoted $110 for the visit and shots, and he prescribed an ointment for the irritation. When I went to pay the receptionist said "$280 please" and I was FLOORED. I inquired about the jump in price and it turns out it was for flea meds. The doctor had a feeling she MAY have fleas on top of her current condition, and casually offered me flea medication for all of my pets. Seeing as he had posters and media everywhere of this brand and he didn't even attempt to communicate a price, it seemed as if he was giving me a sample. When I went to pay the flea meds were almost $50 each and a cortisone cream was almost $60. VERY overpriced and not very well communicated. After she took them off the bill it was still $199 for vaccinations and an ointment I could by over the counter for $10. Very over priced and there is no extra value in paying that much. RID: 36093
Click to report rating    3/14/12   5     5     5     5   Before i went to Dr. Spooner, my cat went to other vet and didn't prescribe any medicine to my cat after Xray and found out my cat has enlarge heart, they want me to do other test to "ensure" what cause the problem which will cost me more than $500. I brought my cat to Dr. Spooner, he is amazing, explained to me the situation about my cat and what's the treatment, very patient. i spent almost 2 hours there and have everything set up, my cat also did the ultrasound which the other vet recommended, however his price is way cheaper and he is really professional, you won't be disappointed. Click to report rating    12/15/11   1     3     2     2   I have been a client of Yaletown vet hospital for several years after hearing how good they were. I am sadly disappointed that this is no longer true. My dog had to have acl surgery two years ago and has had nothing but complications since. Twice in the past few months I have phoned with emergency situations when my dog was in severe distress. On both occasions I was told they could see her the following day. They recommended I phone an emergency clinic ($$) that would know nothing of her history. On both occasions two seperate vet clinics came to my rescue and squeezed her in within 20 minutes of my phone calls. Urban animal hospital even did some free xrays to help me out. When they couldn't help today they said they could stay open late if I couldn't find another vet that would take me. Granville Island animal hospital took me as quick as I could drive there. Tomorrow my 13 year old dog will receive an ultrasound at granville island hospital to determine if she has RID: 29890

11/11/11   5     5     5     5   I have been going to Yaletown Pet Hospital for over four years now. Yes it is frustrating when you can't get in to see the excellent doctors at the drop of a hat, but in order to see MY doctor I have to book a MONTH in advance. This is a sign that the doctor is very busy, which mean that they are good doctors. It is not a walk in clinic. My pets have complex medical issues, and I find their pricing more than fair, I had to go to another clinic once and they charged significantly more. Yes some staff have been rude--I work in HR, I know it is hard to get good people. I have noticed that the rude ones don't last long at Yaletown. I would not hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend Yaletown Pet Hospital to anyone. They provide a Holistic approach and are open to alternate medicine to compliment traditional medicine. They are real human beings, and I enjoy my appointments because they are humorous compassionate people. The doctors even make time after their shift to call me back! For FREE RID: 29025
Click to report rating    2/10/11   4     5     5     5   When our new puppy was having GI issues, Dr. Spooner spent alot of time examining him, doing his best to figure out what was going on. On several occasions, his staff took my calls or my husband's calls, even if we were just calling to ask a quick question. There have been a few times where one of the receptionists has been quite rude to us, or didn't seem to want to help me find special diet food for our kidney-compromised cat. But the other front end staff and vets have been very kind and compassionate towards us. When one of our cats died suddenly and unexpectedly, the staff made every effort to help emotionally support me when I was bawling my head off, asking for his records to be closed. They treated me very humanely, and they continue to treat my remaining cat and puppy with love & care. I can't say that all the staff are 'warm & fuzzy' which is unfortunate, but they've always done right by our pets, so I can't complain. RID: 22728
Click to report rating    12/6/10   5     5     5     5   An excellent vet who has taken us compassionately through end of life with our previous dog and now many years of ongoing care for our current dog. We have always found Dr. Spooner to be available, knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. We feel fortunate to have such a calm, reasonable vet taking care of our family's precious pet. RID: 21273
Click to report rating    10/13/10   5     5     4     4   I have recently switched vets as my previous one retired and have nothing but good things to say about all of the staff there. I own a pet care business and most of my clients use Yaletown pet Hospital and are very happy with Dr Spooner and company. Someone else here commented about certain vets having a day off and not being available to them, To that I respond " Do you get days off? Aren't they entitled to days off. Good luck getting in to see your dr on his/her day off. That is what emergency clinics are for.Ignore all of the bad comments on here and go and see Dr Spooner and Dr Vandermeer if you want excellent and compassionate health care for your pet.God Bless Yaletown Pet Hospital, Too bad there aren't more Vets like these guys RID: 20263

7/26/10   2     2     1     1   Stay away from this place. The veterinarians do not do hands on examinations, but would rather run up huge hefty bills on bloodwork, urine tests, etc.Evidence: It took one visit to a second veterinarian to diagnose a tumour on my dog. It took Yaletown 4 visits and $600 and they still didn't have an answer. RID: 18952

3/30/10   1     1     1     1   Rob Spooner refused to give me the final necropsy report re: my dog that I was forced to euthanize 7 days after a surgery he did on him without my informed consent. I had to go to another vet as he refused to help my dog, it was his day off. I filed a complaint about him with the BCVMA for breaching numerous code of ethics and refusing to give me all necropsy reports. I also filed a civil lawsuit against him and his clinic which they unsuccessfully sought an order dismissing it on March 23, 2010. The judge granted me leave to amend my claim due to actions of Rob Spooner after initial claim filed. Those being he stole my dead dog and kept his brain and lung tissue laying around some lab for 5 months, sent them out of province for testing that was supposed to be done in first place, had the report, did all this without my knowledge or consent. This is a criminal offence. He did this after I filed complaint and sued him. Very disturbing. Form he submitted said "owner unknown" RID: 17298
Click to report rating    1/2/10   5     5     5     5   If you are looking for a vet with an absolutely outstanding level of knowledge, compassion, dedication and heart.....look no further than Dr.Deb Archeck!!! Throughout the extensive medical challenges that we have had with our kittens.... NOT ONCE did Deb ever give up! Follow-up emails (from home)& calls to see how WE are doing all kept me from an emotional meltdown. Our little ones are in the best of hands with Deb!!!....... You are appreciated more than you will ever know!!! RID: 15986
Click to report rating    11/25/09   5     5     5     5   My dog had torn a ligament 2 yrs ago and was given a quote for surgery at two other vet hospitals, one for $6900 and the other for $10,000+ (depending on complications). Rob Spooner did an alternative surgery which was highly successful and he charged $2900 and even allowed me to pay for it in 3 installments which was incredibly kind. Both Dr. Spooner and the staff at Yaletown Pet Hospital have been nothing but exceptionally professional, caring and compassionate. I won't go anywhere else now. RID: 15462
7/23/09   1     1     1     1   Rob Spooner the owner of this place convinced me to have a surgical procedure on my dog without telling me of any risks whatsoever which is his legal and professional responsibility. He then also chose to perform another surgical procedure on my dog without getting my permission and I was told he had done this after the fact. Well there were so many risks involved with this surgery which he failed to tell and I had to watch my dog suffer and in pain for 7 days after this surgery as it was unsuccessful. Yet Spooner kept claiming he didnt know why my dog was reacting this way when he knew dam well why. He let my poor dog suffer for days and refused to help him even though he charged close to $1000.00 for this surgery. I had to take my dog to the animal emergency clinic and they told me my dog was dying and was in pain so I was forced to euthanize him. RID: 13587
Click to report rating    7/13/09   5     5     5     5   I have been bringing my cat here for years. All 3 of the vets here have been consistently helpful and accurate in their diagnosis. As well, they have occasionally waived fees when I was financially hard up. I know for a fact that friend whose cat had to be put down there was sent home with a hug and some kleenex and told "We are so sorry for your loss, don't worry about the bill, you can pay us later." The vets here have also been more than happy to talk to me on the phone at no added expense. I am sorry for the troubles of the poster below me, but I really do not agree with their judgement on Dr Spooner's ethics/personality. I have rarely met a vet less 'in it for the money'. RID: 13473
Click to report rating    5/16/09   5     5     5     4   My cat had been to several other vets when dealing with his bladder crystals, and Yaletown was, by far, the best care our cat received. The vet really cared about our cat and his comfort and the vet even calmed down our cat's crying & scared mom (me!)...They were caring yet professional and really knew their stuff. Even our cat, who despised the other vets, was calm at Yaletown. This will be our new vet, for both our cats. RID: 12818
Click to report rating    1/12/09   5     5     5     5   Dr. Spooner and his staff are absolutely wonderful. Not cash cows but people who really care about their customers, both human and animal. RID: 11182
Click to report rating    10/29/08   4     5     5     5   My cat loves Dr. Spooner! I have seen different vets and by far Dr. Spooner is one of the most caring vets out there. He knows his job well and it shows. The hours are excellent and the staff is great, with a nice clean clinic. Thanks Dr. Spooner. RID: 10424
Click to report rating    8/4/08   5     5     5     5   Dr. Spooner is one of the best vets in the Lower Mainland. He's kind, gentle and really does care about his patients. RID: 9555
Click to report rating    6/16/07   5     5     5     5   Dr. Spooner is the BEST vet out there. I live on the North Shore, but I refuse to go any where else but Yaletown Pet Hospital. My dog has liver issues and Dr. Spooner has been wonderful. The vet assistants and front counter staff are also very friendly and helpful. Dr. Spooner is someone who actually cares about animals (and it shows through his work). I will never ever bring my dog anywhere else. Thanks Dr. Spooner!~ You rock!!! RID: 4601
Click to report rating    4/7/07   5     5     5     5   I've had pets all my life and this is by far the best clinic I've experienced. Clean and professional, very caring and knowledgable. They have a very rounded approach to animal care - they don't just throw antibiotics at everything like some places I've been to. (unless it's really needed) RID: 3326
