Avoid Dr Erik Irre. He is very abrupt when meeting canine patients and then accuses them of being timid or agressive when they react to him. I will never use this vet again! Dr Barkasay and Dr Douglas are wonderful

The only reason the ratings are not all 5's is I had a personal problem with one staff member. Not sure exactly why but the rest of the staff goes above and beyond. I think it's because they love my furry son Jack Dawg as much as I do. I am very greatful for the service and care my pets have gotten there. Thanks so much

Do NOT bring your pets here. Horrible customer service by staff. Friendly veterinarians however but what is the point if you can't get past the staff?

Best clinic in Vancouver BC, Dr. Rick Douglas and Dr. Anita Sawatzky are just wonderful. Great service and prices! They are gentle and they listen to your concerns. Accommodates breeders needs very well too! They are in an older building but have the latest in technology and have digital x-ray services. I come from the Island to see this clinic no problem! <3

Dr. Henderson is a very conscientious knowledgeable vet who is our vet for 4 of our small dogs for the last 10 yrs.I was pleasantly surprised she will follow up personally by phone even after the visit to give test results etc. She is very patient and will give detailed explanations with estimates on how much any procedure will cost so you can decide and plan.We had a senior dog live a very comfortable long life (18+) due to Dr Henderson and the medicine she prescribed ( he had kidney stones and a serious heart condition). We had our dogs neutered there also, their fee was very reasonable. I always found the staff to be very polite and professional ( I think the rude staff comments are for a different practice?). Very happy to find such a caring vet.

WORST FACILITY EVER! I have several issues to back this up! We were told our puppy needed steroids and special food because he had an allergy. Reasonable...but they failed to mentioned that in a month my bill would exceed $2000! Dr Douglas told us we needed special dog food that he sold us. A few months later when our dog still had an allergy he kept prescribing more costly and different dog cereals! None were beneficial and we had spend over $1000 in dog food/month! Then, during one visit Dr Douglas told us a special dog food would work and this one was on him...WRONG! Got a bill in the mail stating we owed them $202 for that food! Then, Newton Animal Hospital told us they were going to send us to collection agency when we tried to dispute it! Our dog only got better when we visited another vet, gave him raw meat, but Dr Douglas told us that wouldn't work. The staff are rude and bitter! Overall, Newton Animal Hospital was very unprofessional, rude, expensive, and overstaffed!

We dealt with Newton Animal Hosp in Surrey BC a while back. Our first rotti was diagnosed with cancer by Dr Barkasy at 2yrs old.The appt cost over $1000 and they put her on all sorts of meds including prednisone. We did not believe the diagnosis and did not see an improvement. We took her off the meds and figured nature would take it's course. She lived to be 6 yrs old and we ended up losing her to being hit by a car.On another occasion we went there with a broken canine tooth as they were convenient.I told them I wanted the tooth to keep. When we picked her up they did not have the tooth for me and claimed the didn't know I wanted it.A few days later I called them and said her breath was stinky and questioned whether they got it all.I could feel a sharp tip in there.I took her back in and sure enough they missed a piece. They wanted to charge me a fee and I told them if they did it right the first time there would be no fee and refused to pay. my advice STAY AWAY!!! most expensive vet ever.

Newton Veterinary Hospital and it's crew are Thieves! Bottom line, just stay away from them. I took my dog in for a yearly-routine visit and walked out over $500 lighter in my wallet. The real kicker is that they don't tell you what they are going to do or the associated costs. It's a real eye opener when you go to check out. They are over staffed, and making YOU and I pay for the ritzy building and the 3 or 4 folks standing around in the reception area. $500+ is their standard charge for extremely minimal service and with absolutely no explanation. There are plenty of truly caring and understanding Vets out there, Newton Veterinary Hospital Isn't One of Them! I'll never take any of my pets there again.

I brought my 13 year old cat there and dicovered he had Cancer. I paid for the X rays and visit and was told to come back for fluids and steroids when he got bad. Few weeks later I did and just paid for the stuff but not the visit. When I took him back at the end they were so great. I don't think they charged me for the visit either. RIP Domino.

2 and half yrs ago i had to put my long time family friend Rosie here to put her down due to complications due to her old age; my 13 yr old german shepherd. the staff promptly brought us into a clean comfortable room. they talked with compassion to me about her medical condition and my decision. they handled her with tenderness and care. they gave her a light sedative to calm her & make her more comfortable and let me spend as much time as i needed to say goodbye to her. when Rosie and i were ready; they passionately discussed the process with me again. they gave me all the private time with my dog before and after i needed. i would recommend them anytime. i wish NAH was open yesterday. there may be less an expensive emergency clinic in Newton but yesterday i had a horrible experience at that clinic which you can read about (24 hour).

WOW.. I just started taking my Rottweiler there. I have to admit that my experiences have been excellent. The staff all greet the dog, no exceptions. Dr Barkasy has been wonderful, explained every detail, highly informative, professional. hmm sorry but their prices were on par with my other vet.. with the exception of emergency vets.I certainly have no problem reccomending them..

my dog was at another vet and left untreated except for antibiotics. I took my dog here and they made her better with drugs. They explained her disease and told me she would need to be treated for life. My dog is already 11 years old and I figure she only has a few years left. Her treatment costs approx $80.00 per month, but she is well worth it. If left untreated, like my old vet did she would be in alot of pain. Sooo glad I went for another opinion. I will stay with them forever.

They are supposed to be the premier AI vets so this is where I took my dog and the frozen****. The visit for the 2nd breeding was very stressful. Someone took the box with the frozen**** from me when I arrived and I was told to go sit down. I sat with my dog in the waiting room for nearly and hour and a half until someone else realized why I was waiting and then it was still another 20 minutes until we saw the vet and he did the AI. 3 visits, NO puppies. I won't ever do AI again. Too far from Abbotsford to Bellingham to get the**** and then to Newton for the AI only to be ignored (I called, as I was instructed to do - before I left home - so they knew I was coming and approximately when I should be arriving at the clinic).

What beautiful building. and oh the interior, so very nice...look at the number of people working here. GET READY TO PAY FOR ALL OF IT!! Four (4) vaccines and a grooming of a small (13 lbs) short haired dog was nearly $400!! Don't go near this place unless like paying triple of what you should be charged.

Dr. Douglas is busy...TOO busy to actually talk to his clients and to even schedule in important surgeries. Maybe he should stop CROPPING EARS, a cruel practice that has been banned in England and he would have more time to take care of animals that actually need care. Appointments are always late and some of the staff is very rude when you call, most likely from dealing with frustrated clients who cant book surgeries or talk to the vet. Next time, I would go elsewhere and would rather pay more for a vet who has time to deal with his patients.

I took my Pomeranian in for a cough and a pregnancy ultrasound. I was told my dog was indeed pregnant. The doctor said the cough was nothing. He did a cursory exam of her lungs and didn't give her a proper exam. Within a week my dog and pups just about died. The doctor spent the whole visit talking about the Surrey Animal Hospital and what a horrible place it was and how they shouldn't be in practice. Without the help of Dr. Gillot I would have lots my puppies and my dog. I will never go there again; and I went as far as to make a formal complaint to the Vet Association of BC. Stay away for the safety of your pet and for your wallet!

Dr. Douglas is an amazing vet but the hardest part is getting an appt with him since he is always booked up. He has always gone the extra mile with our pets. He is the only reason I drive the 30min instead of going to a vet much closer.

Cost me about 1000 bucks to find out my dog ate something bad, felt like my money was stolen from me, but in the end my dog was health so im okay with it. I wont return to this vet though, as they are costly and run it like a business...

Worst and most potenitly expensive vet trip. The staff are cold and misdiagonsed the cat. We brought the cat in with a sore on his eye. They said it was an ulcer and then 2 trips after that and about $300 later they said it was a tumor that they needed to remove the eye for $1300. We called around and asked about prices and another vet told us $350-400 for the whole procedure and when we brought him in they said there is no way that is a tumor and just an ulcer. They were going to take a cats eye for no reason and charge us almost $1000 more then the other area vets.

We've been going here for over 30 years and they've always been awesome. They won us over several times by saving the lives of two of our animals. The second dog, a life saving surgery was done at a fraction of the cost of what the Langley emergency clinic would have carged us. They are knowledgeable, very professional and caring. The best by far!

As a new dog owner we only starting using this vet when we got our dog under 2 years ago. I would never go elsewhere. We did once go to another vet which was a big mistake, and the prices were outrageous at the other place. Our dog needed surgery and Douglas fit her in within days! He is also the same surgeon that spayed her and delivered her along with her siblings. We didn't even get charged for the 4 nights stay or food that she ate after her leg surgery. I was very impressed. Of course, they are always busy, but always friendly and good to the animals. Busy means that so many people love their services :)

The staff have been helpful, but Dr. Douglas in particular has been impossible for me to reach. He's so busy either on holidays, dealing w/ floods at one of his properties, etc to actually return several phone calls left over several weeks. This was after visiting his office to set up an appt to get my dog neutered and have an ear corrected. I have not been a pest, nor have I ever met the doctor. I just find it frustrating that I've been told over and over again by staff that he'll get back to me to schedule surgery. Obviously I finally went somewhere else for the neutering. As for the ear surgery that he suggested, I'm still trying to get in to see him. Maybe one day before my dog is old and gray Dr. Douglas' office will call with a surgery date.

This vet clinic is excellent. I used to go here years ago, and when I got a new dog, I tried a vet in my neighbourhood. What a mistake: the guy charged a fortune for the most basic thing. At Newton, they have great facilities, staff, and vets, and they charge about 75% LESS than the Westside vet I mistakenly took my dog to.

Dr. Douglas and Dr. Henderson are amazing! My senior dog had to have surgery and I went to this clinic to get a second opinion. I ended up saving several hundred dollars and the care and attention my dog received was first rate. Dr. Douglas performed the surgery and Dr. Henderson did the initial consult and made several follow up phone calls to explain my pet's condition in great detail (and to offer suggestions for her other pre-existing medical conditions). A+ all around!

I am in love with this hospital. I am in the pet industry & deal w/ a number of establishments and I have found Dr. Douglas to be the best in his field. I will wait a month for his services if need be -- there is a reason why the majority of ethical breeders in BC use this clinic above all others & why many travel from the States to do so as well. Prices are reasonable. Care is A+. This clinic has some of the most knowledgeable vet techs in BC, specially Shannon. If they ignore you when you enter or put you on hold, it is b/c they are insanely BUSY at the clinic. Being a patient of Dr. Douglas is a treat as every visit is a learning experience.

DR BARKASY AND DR DOUGLAS ARE PHENOMENAL VETS. WE HAVE BEEN GOING TO THIS HOSPITAL FOR OVER 30 YEARS, EVEN WHEN WE HAD MOVED FAR AWAY. THESE TWO GUYS GO ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY. HOWEVER, IN THE SAME BREATH WE WILL NOT BOOK APPOINTMENTS WITH THE OTHER VETS, THEY ARE COLD, MONOTONE AND MAKE VERY SERIOUS MISTAKES. AND... THE GIRLS AT THE FRONT ARE NOT ATTENTIVE OF OUR PRESENCE WHEN COMING IN THE DOOR AND THEY WILL LEAVE YOU ON HOLD FOR 8 (EIGHT) MINUTES OR LONGER. SO, THIS OFFICE IS BOTH EXCEPTIONAL AND POOR.

Very attentive staff, clean facilities, knowledgeable, helpful Principal Veterinarians, very expensive Dental and above average high costs. Probably typical of high end Veterinary Clinics/Hospitals; Public need clarification about adhereance to recommended BCVMA fees versus independent assessed cahrges - something all Veterinarians should provide the Public.
