I have been going to the Animal Hospital of Oakville for over 30 years. They have always been exceptional. All of their staff have been great and well trained. I consider Dr. Best a friend. The vets here are all good. Some of my favourites have left over the years, such as Dr. Stewart, but that is the nature of the profession, as people move or open their own practices. When we were camping up north 7 years ago, my dog fell over, was shaking, panting and weak. An emergency vet in Barrie wanted to strap on a heart monitor and have us come back the next day for blood work at an additional "followup charge". All of that would have been $900. We drove home and the dog improved. The next day, Dr. Best did a simple blood test and diagnosed her with Hypothyroidism. To this day, she is doing well thanks to their care. I love this clinic.

I have been taking my pets to the Animal Hospital of Oakville for 23 years and I have always felt that they have had the very best of care. Dr. Best has been their primary Veterinarian, (she is wonderful) but I have also seen other vets in her absence and I have nothing but good to say about their professionalism, compassion and the excellent care my animals received from any one of them. I have always found the front-line staff to be very friendly and Cara Lee more than willing to lend a helping hand when asked. I do not feel the services provided are unreasonably priced in comparison to other Veterinarian Clinics and have never felt they charged for more services or tests than were necessary. Anyone who has ever known me over the years, would tell you how much I love my animals and I would not hesitate to recommend The Animal Hospital of Oakville to anyone.

I tried to love this clinic as they were my family's clinic of choice for decades. I really liked the first vet I worked with, but when he got very sick and needed efficient and effective care, I felt like I was in a circus, not a professional veterinary clinic. I had to see several vets (not a problem in and of itself), but each vet could not follow the programme set by the former vet (the plans of action were adequate - the understanding of them by each subsequent vet was not). Eventually my dog became so ill I left and consulted a new clinic who hospitalized him given his severity. 6 months later and he is still recovering from a disease made terribly worse by the circus (AHOO) that couldn't get their act together. I'm just glad I left; I will never return. Also, my new clinic, which I love, is much cheaper.

The front staff are incredibly rude and nasty. I have been using this vet for many years and now want to get a new vet because of how the front staff treat people. The care my dog received was not that great either. I would not recommend taking a gerbil here. My healthy dog went in to get neutered and now may die because of their incompetence.

I find the staff incredibly trustworthy, compassionate and feel that they truly care for my animals. However, the cost for even routine exams and medication is double or occasionally triple the amount elsewhere. For life-saving surgery or treatment I trust them above any other vets but regular check-ups and treatment for common ailments is unbelievably expensive.

Went as a new client after hearing a lot of great things about Dr. Best. Unfortunately got a young vet, very nice but did not address anything I told her, and never called to follow up or anything after, never heard from them again.

I have taken my vizslas and kitties to AHOO since 2000. They are the best vet i have ever used. Dr. Best is indeed the Best. She keeps up to date on latest research, attending conferences and clinics, and reading. As an ethical breeder who wants to do all health tests to ensure only sound dogs are bred, this vet is able to do what i need. Radiology for OFFA, blood tests for genetic diseases, opthamology etc. If you are an educated pet owner, you will appreciate their knowledgeable team. I still bring my furry kids back to AHOO even though i moved to London years ago. Prices are average, and they do not over-prescribe or test. The most important qualities in a good vet are veterinary skills and knowledge- which you can find here in spades. They also are good at discussing health issues, and don't assume you are an idiot. Compassion is the final requisite, and this too you will find here. Yes, some staff can be somewhat rude due to dealing with bad owners.

Like most vets these days the accent is on the money. Although they profess kindness to animals (who doesn't?) it soon becomes clear that that caring comes at an exorbitant dollar price. The front staff are the rudest I have ever encountered. When I explained that I couldn't afford the visit to the vet for a prescription that my dog has been on for 5 years and offered to pay for the prescription alone, they try to make you feel inadequate about the care you are obviously not giving your dog by not paying them their blood money prior to them renewing a prescription. When I simply stated that I could not believe after years of loyalty to their business they could not waive the fee and help my dog get relief from an ear infection. She told me she is not to be talked to that way and hung up. News flash you are not my mother and my language was decent and I was genuinely sincere, I was in disbelief but the rudeness of the hang up clinched it. Do not frequent this money up front first

I have been taking my pets there and recommending this clinic to others for almost two decades. We have always received excellent, thoughtful, compassionate care and have never been made to feel that we should be spending money on unnecessary tests, procedures, medications or special foods. We have never been pressured to undertake a treatment that we did not agree with. The staff have even called around to pharmacies in the area to compare the cost of medications, and then sent me to the pharmacy with the lowest price for the meds we needed. Every member of the staff clearly loves to be involved with their patients - and tolerate the patients' owners! (LOL)

I came across this website by accident and decided to read about this clinic. I have been taking my animals here for about 25 years. If I didn't think they were excellent, I wouldn't still be a client. My work has taken me to live in other cities in Canada and I was never as happy with any other clinic as I am with AHO. There was one vet there a few years ago I wasn't fond of, but he didn't stay long. They don't look after birds, so I have a different vet for birds. If you want to see ridiculous prices, try a vet who specializes in birds! I have several pets so I am there frequently and I have never seen the staff be anything but courteous and caring. However, I have seen many people who were stressed about their pets or the fact that they couldn't afford the treatment who were terrible to the staff. I have to wonder if some of the people who wrote the negative comments did so right after a stressful experience, and if given some time to reflect, would write something different.

I have been taking my dogs to this animal hospital for over 25 years and have never been diappointed. The front staff are excellent, caring people who get to know your pets and you, the owner. The "behind the scenes" staff also care about your animal and treat them lovingly. Dr. Best lives up to her name..."The Best" and I trust her judgement and treatment. I have dealt with a couple of the other vets on staff over the years and have nothing but praise at their compassion, how they physically handled and diagnosed my dogs(in the 25 years I have been going here, I think I can count on 1 hand the number of vets who have left the hospital and 4 of them were because they moved away). As for monetary comments below, their fees are not outside of the norm. They are located in a city, not a small town in the countryside. This is an EXCELLENT animal hospital with EXCELLENT staff. They are not out to make a "buck" off of you...They truely care!

I would highly recommend that anyone who loves their animals subject them to terrible and abusive visits to this clinic. I only went to this clinic once when my dog was experiencing extreme joint discomfort and pain for an unknown reason, and would never ever go back. They delayed every test, had a very rude and unsympathetic staff, didn't provide any diagnosis, administrated medicine that were harmful to my dog and I even caught them pulling my dog out of the cage on his leash aggressively knowing for fact that he had joint pain. You would think that people who claim to love animals would take greater care in providing them with the services they need. I must admit the only thing that these people are great at doing is: Overcharging you for poor services and providing disgusting care.

We have been going to this clinic for 8 years and have been satisfied with the care. As long as we could get Dr. Best we were fine, but she has become impossible to book. Now we seem to always get an inexperienced doctor who doesn't handle small dogs well. Our last visit, the doctor dropped the dog from the table and we are now looking for a new clinic. Also, we have found it to be expensive and the front desk staff to be dismissive and bordering on rude. The fact that the clinic is open on Sunday was always a bonus concept, but we never did use that feature in any case.

Expensive and they don't get the job done. It sometimes takes three visits for them to determine a basic diagnosis, even for something quite straight forward.

Generally pleased with the vets care here. However- until recently, it was a revolving door of doctors. Unless you see Dr.Best ( who is the best there)vets seemed to stay for a short while and then move on. Never could figure out why. Too bad some of the reception staff don't move on. Receptionist Carale could use some polishing of manners. Younger staff quite pleasant though and would give high marks to techs in the back room. Used to be more affordable but soon became quite pricey.

We had been taking our 12yr old golden here her whole life. She had become ill, and we had to take her there to be euthanized. The staff and doctors made a dreadful event more bearable. A bit pricey, but the care is excellent.

We have used this vet for over 20 years and found the staff exceptional. Dr. B. is a caring, thorough & knowledgeable doctor. In spite of what others have said, fees are reasonable in comparison to others. We have always been called promptly when test results are in and also called to follow-up on progress when our animals have been sick. I give this clinic an A+ rating!

overpriced & don't have experience with small animals. Can't handle nervous animals & seem more interested in getting paid than making you or your pet feel comfortable.

This veterinarian emergency office provided the most pathetic services to my dog and in my opinion failed at there job. During my dog's stay my dog was neglected and mistreated. His diagnosis was delayed for three days and even then after the 3 days, the doctor still failed to give us a diagnosis, let alone any idea as to what they believed was the source of his pain. All this clinic wanted was my credit card number. We were told several times that the doctor treating our dog would give us a phone call to update us on his condition, but yet we did not receive any phone calls, we had to take the initiative to call and check up. Even then we were disrespected by the doctor on the phone and she avoided answering where our money was being invested into. WE SPENT OVER $3,000 FOR THEIR SERVICES FOR THEM NOT TO PRODUCE ANY DIAGNOSIS. They prescribed a heavy prescription that according to our dog's vet was very bad for his liver and kidneys and was not compatible with his other meds. Im not go

Took my aging put for a geriatric blood panel. They saw elevated signs of kidney enzymes and gave a knee-jerk prescription for Hill's K/D. After some quick research online this is the WORST possible reaction a vet can make with this issue, also Hill's K.D is horrible horrible food. Many forums and other reference sites literally said if your vet reacts like this change vets, immediately. Instead of trying to figure out cause of the problem they just prescribed horrible food. We solved the problem on our own and got the pug's enzymes back to normal levels by modifying his diet to food with better quality protein and higher bio-availability. Vet had no idea what this even meant. They are attentive for other issues, but when it comes to anything to do with nutrition, run away, they are clueless.

These people sure know how to make a buck!
Case 1: my dog started to become inactive one summer which began to concern us so we took her to Animal Hospital of Oakville. They couldn't find anything wrong but said she would need to be on prescription food for the rest of her life - but couldn't explain why - her appetite had not been affected. I'm dumb, but I'm not stupid - I politely declined. Lo and behold, come the autumn and cooler temperatures and we had our same old dog back, raring to go. It turned out...our dog doesn't like to run around when it's 40+ humidex - go figure.
Case 2: Same dog, a few years later, was vomiting and heaving for a few days, also loss of appetite. Foolishly took her to the same vet - $300 later - she had an upset tummy. They went straight to her pancreas (?!), did bloodwork, and were even going to x-ray her (thank God the machine was out of service that day!) - all this within the span of half an hour! I felt like such a fool!
