Click to report rating    7/28/23   1     1     1     1   I don’t recommend taking your love ones here, not even my worse enemy. My dog was sick for 2 days already took her to the vet before being referred to this place, I thought my bay girl just had a cold or some sort of viral infection or something and if I would’ve educated myself and read about this place I know she would’ve been still alive. As soon as I got there they brought me into a room closed door discussing how everything works, they took her in the back room for assessment and not long after I was told that they needed to keep her overnight and give her a blood transfusion due to her blood count being low but before they can proceed with the procedure 75% of $4500, I’m already frantic and distraught with her prognosis so they internal medicine team and we will be in contact over the next few hours to discuss further. said for me to go home and they’ll contact me Good morning, this is a morning update on your dog from GSVS. She was stable overnight and appeared comfortable this RID: 70781
Click to report rating    4/24/19   1     3     3     1   It has been 2 years and we have finally given up all hope that our tiny little pug, Skidget, will ever walk again. 2 years ago she walked into Garden State Veterinary Specialists (GSVS) in Tinton Falls, NJ, for an operation that Dr. Noemie Bernier, the neurosurgeon, said she need to have. We later learned that Skidget had nothing more than a simple case of constipation and never needed surgery to begin with. GSVS misdiagnosed her and pushed for an expensive surgery which paralyzed Skidget for the rest of her life. It started several days before when Skidget suddenly collapsed on her behind and started turning constantly in circles, her head jerking repeatedly behind her. I took her to Happy Tails vet in Shrewsbury, NJ, who referred me to GSVS. We paid $3,000 for an MRI, after which Dr. Bernier told us that Skidget had 2 herniated discs which were responsible for the way she as acting. And that a $5,000 surgery was the only way she would get better. Instead they paralyzed her. RID: 67943
Click to report rating    10/5/18   1     1     1     1   Pay attention to the bad reviews if you want your pet to make it home alive. I would not send my worst enemy to this nightmare place. RID: 66871
Click to report rating    6/19/18   1     1     1     1   The arrogant and greedy Scavellis are a menace to the veterinary community. Just read all the reviews here and elsewhere. An overall pattern emerges. You can sense the lack of humanity. Oh, but they saved Patrick. Yes they did to their credit, but we never hear the end of it. Tinton Falls only needs one emergency vet hospital and it's called Red Bank Veterinary Hospital. Red Bank even has a charity fund for those who prove they are destitute. RID: 66336

2/4/15   5     5     5     5   we have been going to GSV since it was just a small building so that is about 20 years, my Old English Sheep dog needed an ultra sound, they were so great they never had to sedate her. They worked out an antibiotic protocol and worked with my vet to treat a chronic bladder infection that returned every few months due to her hip dysplasia. They took great care of her for years RID: 55770

9/27/14   5     5     5     5   Our dog was recently diagnosed with, essentially, a hole in her heart. Left unfixed it would kill her. Dr. Goodwin and his team at GSVS were absolutely incredible. The office staff checking us in were courteous and remembered us despite the constant patients in and out of the clinic. Dr. Goodwin is an amazing cardiologist, and we were kept up to date with our pup's progress the entire time. He and his team were there to check us in, he greeted us the day of surgery, he came out after surgery to give us an update, he called us that evening, & he was there for her discharge. I don't know how many of you have experienced human surgery in a hospital setting, but sometimes you're lucky to meet your surgeon once before they put you under... We got a quote prior to surgery and that is exactly what our bill came to. We were treated professionally and kindly by the staff, and I'm honestly confused by the negative reviews. RID: 53758
Click to report rating    6/6/14   5     5     5     5   Dr. Skavelli is the most amazing doctor in the world. I do not trust any one else with my four legged babies. He always goes above and beyond the call of duty and I truly love him for it. RID: 51979
Click to report rating    4/28/14   5     5     5     5   HATS OFF TO Dr Scavelli, Gail and the Garden State Vet Team!!!! Dr Scavelli is the absolute best in every way. He is creating miracles every day. Every person on the Garden State Vet Team is amazing. They are customer service oriented to both the parents and the pets. They really care about every patient. They go the extra mile all of the time. This is our second dog under GSVS’s care. Our dog, Scooby, had hip replacement surgery last week. We had a fantastic experience. They made everything seamless. We are thrilled to report Scooby is home, using his new titanium hip. None of this would be possible without Dr Scavelli and the GSVS Team. Dr Scavelli is amazing. We are forever grateful to Dr. Scavelli and team. RID: 51277
Click to report rating    4/8/14   5     5     5     5   We have 2 Newfoundland puppies (now 10 months old) and have been using Garden State based on a recommendation from a friend. We couldn't be happier with the care, the staff (from the Office Staff to the Dr's) and the concern for the well being of our dogs. We have been to 3 other local Vets in the area over the last 20 years (these are our 4th and 5th dogs and 3rd Newf) and Garden State is the best Vet we've used. We've been thru a lot of illness with our other dogs and understand how difficult and expense (Cancers, hips and Bloat) these can be. We just had our 2 Newfs Neutered and their Stomach's tacked (reduce the chance of Bloat) and the experience was terrific and less expensive that we thought. I'm pleased to write this rating and highly recommend Garden State. RID: 50943
Click to report rating    12/23/13   5     4     5     5   No one gave my dog much of a chance in early 2007 - she was born with an intrahepatic liver shunt. Tom Scavelli did, and saved her life. So, staff I rate the best (5 out of 5). Facilities , 4 out of 5....only because they are not one town away from me ( hint hint :) . Punctuality, well lets face it; when we take our pets to the doctor, we want the doctors to spend as much time as possible with us...so when things run a few minutes late , I ave to give that a 5 out of 5. Monetary value; my dog is with me today and I get to be with her. Priceless. 5 out of 5. RID: 48918
Click to report rating    11/22/13   1     1     1     1   Dr Gibson is a hack. She could not have been less interested in talking to me or my dog who is severly ill. When I asked her to explain issues, she shook her head and walked out of the room. She has an attitude and has to come off her high horse. Terrible , terrible doctor. The rest of the staff is great. She is by far, the bad apple. Stay away from her and meet with the nother wonderful doctors at this place. RID: 48400
Click to report rating    11/7/13   1     2     1     1   I had an emergency appointment with the neurologist, Dr. Gibson. She was not interested in helping my dog. She made me get expensive blood work, which my vet later said was probably not necessary and took urine from my dog, but never performed a urinalysis. She said there was nothing wrong neurologically and to go to the ophthalmologist, but she still wanted to give my dog an MRI, spinal tap, and brain surgery, if needed. The blood work results were supposed to come the latest by Monday. I called numerous times to get the results, which did come in but they wouldn’t read them to me. Finally, I asked them to fax a copy to my vet asap. At 11 am, I went to my vet, he gave me the results, and I put her to sleep. He said that after having so much trouble putting a needle in her vein, any MRI or brain surgery would be extremely high risk, something Dr. Gibson never said. At 6 pm, after she was put down 7 hours prior, they called with her blood work. I’m very disappointed. RID: 48128
Click to report rating    9/12/13   5     5     5     5   GSVS is a fantastic medical facility. The staff is outstanding. Our vet in the AC area recommended we take our 12 year old Jack Russell, Molly to GSVS. Molly was in extreme pain and had a critically high fever. The staff at GSVS diagnosed Molly with a immune mediated disease. While a patient at GSVS Molly's larynx muscle that allows air into the lungs and food into the stomach became paralyzed. The surgeon called and informed us of the situation, and performed an emergency laryngeal tieback, keeping her form suffocating to death. The outstanding staff corrected two major issues, showing compassion every step of the way. Whenever we called, day or late night, we were never rushed, and were always well informed of Molly's status. The entire medical staff understood that Molly is our baby, not just a dog. We cannot praise Dr. Scavelli and the entire staff at Garden State Veterinary Specialists enough. Molly is showing improvement every day, thanks to GSVS! RID: 46911
Click to report rating    5/31/13   3     4     2     3   We have been going to Dr. Goodwin in cardiology for a few years and are very happy. He has extende our dog's life and quality. She has many heart problems being treated very well. Dr. Goodwin gets right down on the floor with her, makes her feel comfortable and does all the testing himself. It is very expensive, but luckily we have insurance. We trust Dr. Goodwin implicitly and wouldnt go anywhere else. Unfortunately, the scheduling is not that good and we usually wait quite a long time. Office staff a little cold but the vet is great RID: 42853
Click to report rating    3/19/13   1     1     1     1   We were sent there for an emergency C-section by another emergency clinic which GSVS owns. The surgeon was suppose to be there within 15 minutes. Young vet said she needed oxytocin, even though she was passing a the pup that died in utero and had viable pups, We had to keep calling the vet back when to tell them the oxytocin was not working. After 3 shots and 4 hrs the surgeon was finally called. In the end 1 puppy survived and the surgeon tried to make us feel better that he had saved the 1 pup, I reminded that killed other by not showing up. Said had been overseeing case all night, when really did not only people overseeing dogs was us. In the end cost more and left with the mom and pup. So make sure the surgeon is really going to show up if you are transferred there. Staff was not helpful and would not release the mom and pup when I requested them and held them captive until the exact time the surgeon said we could leave which was 2 hrs after the c-section. RID: 41180
Click to report rating    2/20/13   3     4     4     1   My wife and I brought our cat in with constipation. After 20 hours at the vet, and $1900 later, the cat is sicker than when he went in. He hasn't had a solid bowel movement since visiting GSVS, he will no longer eat or drink on his own and has a fever. He had to go back to a different vet 2 days later, and back again 2 days after that. We're still trying to get him better. This vet is an incredible waste of money. I wish I could give them a recommendation, but at this point, I can't even say I'm not going to sue them Here's a copy of my bill. Feel free to ask your vet what these treatments should have cost... http://www.blonski.com/gsvsbill.pdf RID: 40567
Click to report rating    1/12/13   1     1     1     1   I took a 10 year old dog to them and said I wanted to have her put down. They insisted she could be treated. They gave me a doagnosis and when I pciked her up she looked OK. THEN they told me I would need to bring her back once a month for a $ 300.00 injection ($ 3,600 per year) or she would die. I took her home and within 2 weeks (before the first injection was to be scheduled) she dropped dead on the floor. TOTAL COST - $ 4,000.00. They didn;t tell me about the monthly cost until I picked her up AFTER they called saying she was fine. RID: 39578
Click to report rating    7/12/12   1     1     1     1   I took my dog there in Dec 2011. They do not care about the pets. They only want the $. As soon as you walk in they tell you a fee (in my case $2500- $3500). My wonderful basset stayed there 2 nights. They gave her a transfusion and had to have used her a pin cushion. Dr Worwag has no concept that pets are family members and could not understand when I told her that my Lola thought we abandoned her there and that was why she was not responding. I also don't know why they had to have an internist and oncologist and then a pathologist to confirm cancer other than to charge 3 times for the same diagnosis. Very bruntly I was told she had 24- 48 hrs but they wanted to continue to keep her.. I told them my girl was going to die at home with family in a loving environment. We did have to put her down 4 days later and my local vet was barely able to find a vein to euthanize her. Who knows what they did to her. Lola passed still wagging her tail. I will NEVER go there again RID: 35601
Click to report rating    9/17/11   1     1     1     1   Be prepared to spend a lot of money. If you bring your pet there and there is nothing wrong, you;re probably out $ 500 to $ 1,000 anyway. I took my 12 year old dog there, she wasn't well and I felt she should be put down. I had dicussed it with my kids and we all agreed to it. GS told me they could treat her, which they did for $ 3,000, and gave her every test imaginable until they dicovered some obscure Thyroid problem. When I went to pick her up, they said "BY THE WAY, SHE'S OK NOW, BUT IN ORDER TO KEEP HER ALIVE, YOU WILL HAVE TO BRING HER IN FOR MONTHLY INJECTIONS AT A COST OF $ 300 per month ($ 3,600 PER YEAR). They never mentioned that until after the treatment and I was picking her up. It didn't matter becuase she dropped dead in my living room two weeks later in front of my kids. We never got the chance to go for the first injection anyway. Find any other place unless you have unlimited resources. RID: 27665
Click to report rating    9/14/11   4     5     5     4   I've been using Garden State exclusively for emergencies for 25 years otherthan for Opthalmology. Overall I would say I am pleased. I would give the practice a 100% if they would get rid of Judy Hone in emergency and change the opthamologist. Both are cold, rude and callous. I take all my pets with eye problems to Red Bank and I will walk out and go to Red Bank if they insisted I see Dr. Hone during an emergency. But, I was not happy with Red Bank during one emergency. She was inexperienced and further injured my dog so with that experience I am very hesitant to go to Red Bank for any emergency. RID: 27583
Click to report rating    5/7/11   1     4     1     1   They are expensive, but that's a choice we may make for our pets. However, they add services without mentioning a price; watch those phone calls, because anything you say is taken as approval to do more. Their reception staff is just plain COLD, and when you question them they turn officious quickly. I'm talking to my own vet, to get her to stop referring to them. RID: 24862
Click to report rating    5/3/11   2     3     2     1   We brought our puppy to this facility after suffering proptosis (eye popped out). I never guess the doctor we spoke with had a love for animals. She gave us two options. The first was overnight care & eye removal with a minimum price of $3,000, the second was to put the dog down. This was a recommendation she made before finding out if the puppy had any life threatening injuries. We decided to bring the puppy home for a second opinion after spending over $300 for the visit. We found a vet what offered overnight care and the surgery for a third of the quote from GSVS. The most disturbing news to me, is after speaking to other vets (we've called many in the area), if she had tried to put the eye back in place, it may have been usable again and none of the other vets recommended euthanasia! RID: 24763

Click to report rating    2/8/11   1     1     1     1   I was not satisfied with the services or lack of services that I received. My cat was refused treatment when the doctor told me Garden State did not have the proper dental tools to do difficult dental surgery that my cat required if deep rooted teeth extraction might be necessary. I expected nothing but perfection from a Vet hospital so putting my cat through an unnecessary surgery that would cause her more pain and require additional surgery in the future was not an option. The doctor was very unprofessional and non sympathetic to my cat as he would not look at my cats teeth as he said he was “afraid of getting bit and having to go to the hospital …” this is not a response I expect from an experienced professional. RID: 22683
Click to report rating    12/30/10   1     1     1     1   Not very professional; more interested in making a buck than in showing compassion. The cardiologist there said my cat was "cured" of congestive heart failure and no longer needed meds. The vet in Red Bank said CHF can be controlled but is not curable and taking my cat off meds would be a death sentence....Under Red Bank's care, he lived with a good quality of life for two and a half years (on meds). Thank God my gut feeling told me the GSVH vet was way off base. Facility looks very sloppy when you walk in. RID: 21681
Click to report rating    12/27/10   1     1     1     1   HORRIBLE!! All they care about is your money! If you love your pet, don't take them to Garden State. RID: 21611
Click to report rating    10/14/10   5     5     5     5   I am a veterinarian who is also a pet owner. Both of my pets have required the care and expertise of the specialists at GSVS. I could not have been happier with Dr. Pintar (internal medicine) and the staff at GSVS. They were kind and compassionate, and quickly and effectively treated both of my pets. RID: 20287
Click to report rating    3/15/10   5     5     5     3   I don't know about these other cases, but Dr. Kazmierski and the surgical staff saved my dog's life and gave him a quality of life that he had not had in several years. My regular vet practically gave him a death sentence, and said say goodbye. Dr. K. treated and cured him. They were very compassionate, everyone there seemed to genuinely love animals. They are VERY expensive, but in my case, MORE than worth it! RID: 17058
Click to report rating    1/17/10   5     5     5     5   Garden State has saved many of our rescue dogs. Dr Scavelli is amazing & truly cares. He has saved numerous dogs that other vets thought couldnt be saved. I would never have anyone else touch my rescue dogs or my personal dogs.Any speciality hospital in the tri state area is expensive.. but not many of them actually care.. Garden State is the best in NJ. Ask any surgeon about Tom Scavelli & they will all say he is the best in the field. having been in the rescue world for many years I have seen my share of bad vets & hospitals but Garden State is sure NOT one of them. RID: 16184
Click to report rating    3/20/09   1     1     1     1   My boyfriend's cat died after receiving anesthesia prior to surgery here. We were told afterwards that the cat did not receive any pre-anesthesia testing to make sure he could tolerate it. Their reception area is very sloppy and the vets all look confused. If you live in the Tinton Falls area and love your pet, go to Red Bank. RID: 12183
Click to report rating    2/24/09   1     1     1     1   Unfortunately this hospital has too many interns on staff, charges for treatments without approval and base their entire business on other good doctors pre-existing relationships, are arrogant and insensitive to a pets quality of life and could care less on whether the treatment they prescribe will torture your pet in the process. The head Dr. Who runs the place has forgotten about why he started in the business to begin with. It's clearly a business for him at this point in his life, otherwise he would insist on making changes in their procedures, customer service, attitude and overall human decency. How can they leave critical decisions to very inexperienced interns. Why hasn't The State Of New Jersey Investigated them for allowing unqualified interns act like doctors. Why doesn't the State Of New Jersey pass a law requiring animal hospitals to treat pets in emergency care situations if the money is not there ! RID: 11787
Click to report rating    5/9/08   1     1     1     1   It's a business but if you have little money - you're shown the door. Zero compassion for animals. You'd think there'd be a sliding scale. It's money or else - even with life-threatening illness which is the reason for my overall poor ratings. What good is the facility or punctuality if it is of no benefit to the middle/working class dog lovers? RID: 8435
Click to report rating    1/8/08   2     1     1     1   dr. demarco diagnosed my dog with the wrong disease. She said he had itp a disease that is diagnosed by exclusion but failed to do an echocardiogram or xray. my dog died because of her. he was taking drugs that he did not need. he died from heart disease (we had an autopsy)which could have been controlled by the right medications, a healthy diet and excercise. but she failed to look at the whole entire body. it took him 3 months to die. he was only 5 years old. we specifically went to her because of his breathing and she recommended the palatal surgery that pugs usually get. meanwhile difficulty breathing is a sign of heart disease and she did not check his heart. do not go to her she might diagnose your dog with the wrong disease. when your dog is sick and it has an autoimmune disease make sure you have a vet check them from head to toe. i trusted her and it was the wrong thing to do! Click to report rating    7/28/07   1     2     2     1   My cat died here as a result of a just out of school vet's inexperience. When you walk in as an emergency patient, you do not see a specialist as the name implies. You see kids who just graduated school and are working to get their own practice. The dr who overdosed my cat, Dr Cohen was horrified by a simple nasal swelling and completely unprofessional. My cat's dead body was brought to me in a dirty stained blanket and I was told by the receptionist, just go. Then I tried called the owner, Dr Scavelli, who avoided my call for hours and had a secretary call me. I went there to confront him and he said he was too important to talk to customers- he has people to do that for him. This after knowing that my cat died unnecessarily because of his staff member. This vet is only interested in champion show dogs. Cats are an unnecessary nuisance to them. RID: 5389
