Click to report rating    10/28/19   2     2     2     1   I'm a pensioner. This Vet is close to where I live, but they take advantage of a worried pet owner and charge WAY TOO MUCH. It cost me nearly $700 for checkup, blood, x-ray and meds. My pension is less than $1700 per month (and I told the vet that right at the beginning). Then they sent me an email quote for dental work for $2400!! Never again! RID: 68684

3/19/18   5     5     5     5   Very experienced doctor and very nice/helpful staff. I booked exam and boarding for my cat there, and Dr. Anderson recommended blood test since my cat is a senior. Unfortunately we found some abnormalities from the blood test but Dr. Anderson gave good advises and helped my cat to get healthier. I was really frustrated that why my PREVIOUS vet didn't suggest to do this very basic check--it's common knowledge that regular checkup is needed for even human seniors!!!! I'm glad that I could catch things early with Dr. Anderson's help!!!! RID: 65786
Click to report rating    1/25/18   1     1     1     1   AVOID THIS CLINIC AT ALL COSTS. SAVE YOURSELF HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN UNNECESSARY MEDICATIONS AND EXAMS. Dr. Anderson is the biggest SCAM ARTIST in Vancouver. I have a dog being treated for an autoimmune disease, and he required a blood test to check his platelets. His regular vet is in Victoria, and as we had been to Dr. Anderson years ago, I thought we'd simply need to do an exam and the blood test. This was supposed to cost me $150 with the blood test and exam. After conducting the test. Dr. Anderson prescribed 2 liver medications for my dog. The result a $500 vet bill. $250 of that was medication alone for a 2 week period. TWO WEEKS! After speaking with my dog's regular vet in Victoria and sending him the results of the test, he said that there was no indication that my dog has a liver issue, but that the medication is not necessary. AVOID THIS VET AT ALL COSTS! Unless you like to pay money for medications that are not needed. RID: 65450
Click to report rating    9/10/17   1     1     1     1   I left a completely healthy and happy dog at the clinics for couple weeks of boarding and they returned him with a terrible eye infection, wearing a collar... They refused any explanations (referring to a waiver I signed), charged extra 300 for eye exam (!), and never followed up. The medication they gave me when I left never worked , the eye became a real problem. Gladly, I found another , a real vet that eventually helped. Ignorant and overpriced place! RID: 64622

5/4/17   2     3     2     1   WORST CLINIC EVER. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. I wanted to give me dog a grooming but before they can groom him he needed to be examined. We did the examination only to be charged with almost 2k for dental and other tests. We agreed to the dental operation stuff and paid but the holy crap they were overly priced and it doesn't even seem necessary!! On the day of his dental operation they notified me there may be a possible extraction. But I was not aware that this wasn't part of the payment I have already paid for. So in addition I had to pay another thousand plus bucks. I was in complete shock and they wouldn't release my dog to my mom if I did not pay. And I was at work during this time. If I did not pay who the hell will take care of my dog! So they let him go to my mom after fighting back. They told me to pay this 1300.00 amount tmr. So I went to the clinic expecting to pay this price 1300.00 and they decided to charge me extra without telling me for something I was not aware of. WTF RID: 63544

3/2/17   1     1     1     1   We have had so many rabbits coming to our rescue after the guardians had taken them to this clinic and been totally hosed with absolutely insane rates and unnecessary or wrong procedures. This is the only clinic we tell people to avoid at all costs. RID: 62888
Click to report rating    10/5/16   5     5     5     5   The only veterinarian in the city who will actually find out what's wrong with my pet. All previous vets will throw medications at my pets problems...putting my pet at risk & wasting my money. Would never go anywhere but to Dr. Anderson. RID: 61754

7/26/12   5     5     5     5   I understand why some people say Dr. Anderson is only after your money, because his costs are high comparatively speaking, but you DO get what you pay for here. He recommends things and these things cost money. If you love your pet like a member of your family, he recommends all applicable interventions assuming you will want them, and this is what is expensive. If you do not value your pet like this, then this is probably not the place for you. Cheaper vets have not gone above and beyond the care he has, I learned this firsthand - thankfully before it was too late for my cat. The quality of care is exceptional, his facilities are top-notch, and he has unparalleled understanding of my pets' health. He spends LOTS of time talking to you if you need, is patient, explaining and helping you understand. Technicians are organized, helpful, friendly and compassionate. Expensive, but worth it!  4/29/12   2     2     1     1   please do not waste your time going to this Vet,he is only interested in your money. I understand fully that all Vets are businesses, and that they are expensive. This vet is very close to where i live, and have had to use him a few times, recently with a serious emergency. He is far more interested in taking your money than helping your pet. Basically a mastiff bill for a bunch of you don't need, and probably never done, and a recommendation to a real clinic where they can actually help you. Do yourself a favour and steer clear of this place, you will be happy you did... i agree... the worst Vet in Vancouver. RID: 33868

9/13/11   1     1     1     1   I've rated 1 across the board because our experience with this vet was uniformly terrible. Grooming is offered at $19, but you need a check up first. In our case, this revealed tests and issues that were "necessary". Total bill: $1000. Next, an ear infection "required" procedures totalling $1600. We balked at that and took her to another vet. Total bill: $75 out the door with antibiotics, ear cleaned and plucked, and some preventative herbal treatments. Some of the procedures recommended by Anderson are risky to the pet (such as general anaesthetic) and should not be performed so cavalierly. We felt we were being scammed and found another vet. Due to them putting profits ahead of animal health, I can't rate anything above a 1; his facilities are actually excellent, because unnecessary procedures are paying for them. Stay far away.  7/13/11   1     1     1     1   By far the worst vet and human being in the lower mainland. He takes advantage of desperate pet owners. He charged me $300 for unnecessary tests and did not improve my cat's health status. He started with a quote of $1000. This guy is a fraud, stay away. RID: 26190
3/19/11   4     4     4     2   First time here because I had to get my cat groomed. If you're a new client, expect to pay an examination fee. First visit, just for a cat grooming, $1500. Tooth decay on 2 teeth. Add anasthetic and local pain killers, surgery, HST. It went up. Grooming would have only been around $55. My cat is a senior. So far the hospital is clean (compared to others I've seen) and the equipment in the back has been obviously been paid by clients. Dental equipment like human stuff. Will have to check out the SPCA if they do stuff like this as others have said. I always like a 2nd opinion. RID: 23677
Click to report rating    11/5/10   5     5     5     5   This is a really good hospital! I was referred by a friend because my dog was losing weight. Went to few vets but no doctors could pin point the cause. Dr. Anderson was very knowledgable and recommended some tests for my dog. We were able to get results very quickly and found out my dog had cancer. He explained in detail about the problem and treatment options and we agreed on surgery. Now my dog is in process of chemo therapy sessions done by Dr. Anderson and doing really well! Already gaining weight back! His staff has been very helpful and sympathetic, gave me a lot of support along the way. They even went an extra mile to drop me and my dog off when I had difficulty arranging a ride one day. They are really professional people who are also caring for their clients and patients. RID: 20654
Click to report rating    3/30/10   1     1     1     1   I walked 5km to see him with my sick rabbit in my arms. I got to the door about 1 minute after closing. He said he couldnt see me cuz he was leaving. About 10 minutes after they kicked me out and LOCKED THE DOOR in my face, my rabbit died. I was 16 years old. NO JOKE. He is a horrible human being and the receptionists are bimbos! RID: 17310
Click to report rating    10/25/09   1     1     1     1   so bad! go for a doggie grooming, come out with bills for physical exam, drug for his bones, oil for his joint, eyes exam, blood test, x-ray, extra vacinne, if you decline treatment, look at his face! reception was trying to sell my doggie some cat food! RID: 15031
Click to report rating    9/19/09   5     5     3     1   yeah, he's farrrrrrrrr toooooooo expensive, i wish i found this website earlier so i could avoid him, i spend thousands of dollars on one of my two cats. long story short, by the very end, his suggestion was suspecious to me and my friend, so i made my final decision. and the cat that he told me having food allegic of chiken is eating chiken now, and he's totally fine!!! SO DONT GO THERE!!!! RID: 14310
Click to report rating    8/10/09   5     5     5     5   Great facilities! very clean and they use the latest equipments. The girls work there are super friendly and very professional! I have been a customer there for a long long time, and referred many of my friends and family memeber to them! Can't go wrong! Norm RID: 13797
Click to report rating    8/8/09   5     5     5     5   Dr.Anderson is a very knowledgeable person. He is very kind, funny and smart. He gives me options and estimates on what to do for my pet. The staff members are very friendly and supportive, and I am very grateful and thankful to have my pet taken there. I would recommend Dr.Anderson to all my friends who have pets at home. RID: 13779
Click to report rating    8/8/09   5     5     5     5   I first took my cat to Dr. Anderson 10 years ago, and he patiently helped me through finding Nicky a diet he wasn't allergic too. Since then, I have recommended him to everyone I know - he is definitely the best vet in Vancouver. When I moved to Burnaby a few years ago, I tried to find a vet closer to home, but after trying 3 other clinics, which didn't even begin to compare with Anderson Animal Hospital, I went back to him. Dr. Anderson is an excellent doctor - extremely knowledgeable, thorough, caring and kind. My cats are very important to me, and I have pet insurance to ensure I can provide them with the best possible care. I do a lot of research on my own regarding feline health and Dr. Anderson is an excellent person to discuss this research with, as he stays on-top of the latest developments in animal health care. The staff at Anderson Animal Hospital are very caring and friendly, too. I recommend Dr. Anderson 100% to anyone who wants the best care for their pets. RID: 13776
Click to report rating    7/31/09   5     5     5     5   WOW this is a great vet! I have an old cat who was loosing wt and I thought it was from the hot weather. A friend told me to see Dr Anderson. He was kind and gentle, found a hole in her fang and a large lump in her neck. I was worried about cost but unlike other vets I've been, to he printed estimates and clearly explained everything. He helped me chose the estimates in my budget and gave me excellent care. His hospital lab found that she has a hyperthyroid tumor and liver disease from it. He carefully let her sleep, took out the bad tooth and she came home the same day feeling great. Now shes on pills and is already getting better. I felt great knowing that he really cares. Nothing in vancouver is cheap and my cat is worth every cent and so is DR Anderson. >>You get what you pay for << is something I learned a long time ago. RID: 13689
Click to report rating    5/4/09   4     5     5     4   Dr Anderson is expensive. However he is extremely knowledgable and can do just about anything on site. What I do like is that you always see the same vet not rotated through different Dr's. Have been seeing him for 10 years and will continue on. He does suggest some things that I may find unnecessary but I just decline. A neuter can be $100-$1000 depending on what you want. All you have to do is tell him. Boarding is affordable and you can tell the staff treat the animals well. RID: 12691
Click to report rating    2/24/09   1     2     2     1   i called to just ask the vet if he was a certified exotic so i could know if he was qualified to treat my rats. The receptionist wouldn't give me a straight answer and wouldn't let me ask the vet. they wanted me to come in to ask and charge me $65 for a check up?!! RID: 11802
Click to report rating    5/27/08   1     5     4     1   Took my pet to Newton Animal Hospital. What he was going to charge 1300.00 for, they charged 300. And they are just as good at Newton, plus the staff knows what they are talking about, and explains things very well. Anderson's staff don't seem to ever know the answers to basic questions; they always say you'll have to ask the vet (probably so he can charge you more). RID: 8624
Click to report rating    5/10/08   4     5     4     1   Really nice guy...very knowledgeable. However, he is waaaaay too expensive. He charges a sixty buck examination fee on top of the vaccination fee EVERY time he gives a vaccination (even if the animal has been vaccinated for something else only a month earlier). Plus, he's always trying to upsell you on stuff: special food and products and he even recommends a particular vet insurance. RID: 8453
Click to report rating    11/7/07   1     3     3     1   I agree with the previous posters about the vet charging way too much (to support his million dollar home in south Vancouver...) I went in to ask the staff about vaccinations for my kitten and a recommendation for food and I was told that they didn't have a list of fees but the vet would tell me during the examination. She had to ask the vet about the food and even then said she couldn't really recommend anything until the vet had seen my kitten. What a load of crap. RID: 6387
Click to report rating    11/7/07   2     2     2     1   we have a dog who went in for treatment of a skin infection, and ended up with a $1,000 bill. the next time, he went in with an ear infection and the dr. tried to get us to sign for blood work, skin scrapings, general anesthesia, etc. that would have resulted in another $1,000 bill! i quickly went online to check reviews on the dr., and i am friends with a vet. who used to work with him. they all say the same thing--he hoses EVERYONE with what he calls mandatory bloodwork and general anesthesia to clean ears, etc, that will make your pet happy. Please avoid this vet. He knows his stuff BUT IS DEFINITELY LACKING IN THE ETHICS DEPARTMENT!!! we are taking our dog to amherst animal hospital. RID: 6386
Click to report rating    5/30/07   4     4     4     1   Dog went in for sore on paw pad. Dr. phoned to recommend that hair be pulled out of ears and he would "just put him under" to do so. Bill was $700!!!! RID: 4287
Click to report rating    5/23/07   2     4     4     1   Avoid this place! It is the single most expensive trip I've ever had; leaving me feeling more violated than my cat!!! With my new cat, I only wanted a simple check-up and ended up being guilt-tripped into a page full of blood tests, hospitalization, drugs, etc, that cost over $600!!! My cat was fine but I have scars to remember by... The staff consists of a bunch of 20 year-old receptionists that had no vet / nursing skills of dealing with pets or tactfully with humans either while there was the Dr. Anderson that butchered my wallet so badly at the first meeting which reminds me of a used car salesman... He didn't even spend the time to explain to me what happened! The facilities are all so high-end and beautiful that it only reminded me where all my money went every time I pass by it... Never again!!! RID: 4083
