Without a doubt, Dr. Downs is one of the best Veterinarians in the region and has cared for our two Whippets (sight hounds have some unique medical treatment concerns) for several years and provided nothing but excellent care.
She is very thorough in her approach, and as a result provided an early cancer diagnosis and treatment plan for our eldest Whippet (surgery, medication and diet) and also identified the early onset of heart conditions in both our (senior citizen) Whippets. Dr. Downs has always worked in close coordination with veterinary specialists (surgeon, oncologist and cardiologist).
I believe that Dr. Downs proactive approach has improved the quality of life and lifespan (12 and 13 years old) of both our Whippets.
Through the years, the staff at Little River have been nothing short of kind, caring, friendly and professional.
Highly recommended!

This is my sister's regular vet. She loves them. Now I know why. I visited Virginia for a wedding. The last time I boarded my dog at home, Connecticut, she had a nervous issue. To shorten her stay, I brought her to my sister's on the trip, so she only had to board for the week-end. When I picked her up, she had had another nerves episode. Although this was not the Vet's fault, they treated me and my dog as if it was. I met with the doctor before I left, they gave her a quick check-up and told me what to watch for to make sure she recovered fully. Most vets, even good ones, would have sent me on my way, never to see me again. Three days after I got home, my cell phone rang. It was Dr, Proia. She was calling to check on my dog.
This practice REALLY cares about your animals. I would recommend them highly. So would my sister
