I'm rating the staff low at this vet because in a routine checkup they put my cat on methimazole for a free T4 blood test for hyperthyroidism that was at the high end of normal. It was mostly precautionary. In one month my cat had a range of problems. We were told methimazole was not the cause because it can't do this. We were told this for nine months as his condition worsened. Finally, at nine months, we were referred to a vet dermatologist where we learned that our cat had severe immune mediated diseases from methimazole poisoning and could not be saved. We worked with experts and consultants and did get him another year, though not an enjoyable one for him or us. Spending $15,000 could not save him. In the end the medications took a toll and his immune system could not be controlled well enough to save him. Ultimately he had GI issues, stomach issues, lymphoma, and finally his immune system attacked his kidneys sending him to kitty heaven. Losing him was painful.
