My daughters dog was misdiagnosed twice in two weeks with mastitis. Any good vet knows that a spayed dog can NEVER EVER get mastitis after being spayed. Sparrow couldn't pee, poo, eat, drink or anything, and still they sent her home with more meds that she couldnt keep down.. She suffered and I mean she suffered. They charged a single mom of 2 kids 1,200 dollars for something that she didnt even have. We got a second opinion from a vet that actually cares and loves animals and they gently and lovingly put our precious Sparrow to sleep. She had aggressive carcenoma. How do you sue these people? How do we get our money back? How can they do this to animals? How do they sleep at night knowing they didnt care for that animal in the right way, and sent it on its way suffering. I have never in my whole life saw an animal cry tears and Sparrow was. It just broke my heart. I will never ever recommend this place to anyone. Please if you love your animal, do not go there

Went to this vet for over 5 years. They refused to let my cat come in for an emergency appointment. He got hit by a car. The man that answered my call was extremely rude and told me that I would have to wait three days and it wasn’t their problem and to call Peterborough. Will never go back. Shame on you

This is the best place to bring your pet for care! The staff and vets really go the extra mile to care for animals. They are truly amazing and the only place I will go.

This facility has changed ownership. It is no longer the clinic we remember. To my knowledge at the time of writing this review, only 2 or three vets run the entire clinic, one of which is very difficult to understand and not very patient when we must ask for clarification. Waiting times in a busy, large vet clinic are to be expected. But in my case unreasonable whenever I was there. Admin staff are OK. I am not returning, sad, it’s been 10 years.

I am new to town and found Northhumberland Vet. They seemed to have good reviews. My previous vet forwarded my dogs files and we had set up an appointment. Due to my dog coughing the vet asked me to wait outside until they could see me. I waited outside for 40 minutes in the cold. My dog has horrible weak legs and is very old (all of this is on his file that Northhumberland Vet has on hand). Needless to say, I made the 40 minute drive there and back with my dog being in worst shape then when I arrived. We did not see the vet as she was "very busy" and my dog was very fed up waiting - as was I. I would NOT recommend this vet as it seems that the money and multiple bookings are more important than the animals themselves. Very disappointing.

Excellent, caring staff. I have experience elsewhere and now, this is the only place I will bring my dog. They are caring and offer personalized advice and care. Prices are excellent.

This is an excellent facility. Over the years, they have seen many of my dogs and cats. I absolutely want the best vet services for my animals, and I have always found this clinic and their caring, experienced staff deliver.

In it for the money NOT the animal. Treat domestic PETS like farm animals where they aren't valued as much as a pet. Not very informative, bedside manner is the worst! They need to understand people need reassurances NOT spoken down to..they bring their love ones in for CARE not to be turned away ane the owner ridiculed.

I have to agree with the previous reviewer somewhat. If you don't see Lex or Michele it is like starting over as a new patient and perhaps down a new road of treatment usually on the merits of 'new', 'ego based' graduate knowledge. It is funny when you question new vets they get all defensive usually from their insecurities/egos or both. A vet of experience takes it in stride and will apply their experience with diplomacy as well as except your understanding without the imperial attitude. This is an industry where your business is built on one or two select professionals and trying to 'can' that is difficult. I would recommend any new vet to this office to spend the time with Lex (regardless of their experience) to see the 'magic' in action and appreciate his interaction and informative ways of dealing with clients. It's great when I see Lex or Michele..not so much otherwise.

I called NVS last night around 11 as my cat started to breathe rapidly and drool after being given her usual medications. Was put through to my RVT, who seemed to have just been woken up and didn't seem to care about what was going on. I was willing to pay for an e-vet visit but she insisted to hold off, and that my cat was acting this way because of the medicine I "rammed down her throat". The medicine she's been on for months, maybe years. Mind you, this is the third different RVT assigned to my animals in just over a year, and it's frustrating to have to explain my animals' issues because the files apparently aren't enough to go on. I realize this may be the best vet in the area, but once you get outside Lex/Michelle's care, it's a grab bag.

I can only say the best of this vet...as someone that has had only the best form 1983...I am talking about Dr. Mackay and Dr. Bonner...I also have been through the mill with my animals...I just can't take it anymore when stupid people say such stupid things that they do not know about....as a breeder and a person with animals ....you will never ever get any better than this pair of vets...I am so thankful that I found them thirteen years ago....They are the real deal....just like Oprah...I never write in or ever say anything....but one thing for sure....Lex and Michelle are the real deal....and I love and respect them both...I am so lucky to have found them thirteen years ago....

Great staff with only the pets' well being in mind. I don't understand why people get upset if the bedside manner may be a little off,remember you are not the patient. As for diagnostic issues that people complain about. Lex and staff rely upon what you tell them. If animals could speak Lex's job would be far easier.Best vet I've ever had.

I've been taking my cats to NVS for over 15 years, although it's not the closest to my home by far. Quality has suffered measurably with Dr. Martin departing earlier this year, the vet taking over our animals is a nice person, but doesn't seem to know how to tackle medical issues without creating confusion on both ends. I just spent $500 on tests that resulted in no further course of action and I'm not sure whether their conditions are any worse off now than they were 6 months ago - very unclear.

Top notch in every way, it is worth the long drive for my loving companions to receive the best of care - this clinic is also very up-to-date in knowledge and procedures. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them. Love them or can you tell!

Excellent vet!!!! Cared for my dog, when she needed to be put down the care and compassion was comforting..Dr, Lex, Joanne and Staff were always there for me, thank you so much for all the care. I now take my new addition to the family to Dr. lex, would not go to anyone else, because they care...Thank You Dorothy @ Peggy

I have been going to this vet for over 14 years now and have highly rec. to all I know. We did have an issue when our pup was gravely sick and had to find another vet to actually find out what was wrong. (she ended up passing away because of it, and the one vet here had no idea anything was wrong!!!) Lex is the only vet in the office I would rec. as I have found the others do not have the same knowledge and expertise as him. The ladies at the front are wonderful, depending on the day and stress level they are under it seems. Regardless, I would still rec. Lex. He has a love for animals that is just not seen often enough.

Lex and Michelle (1st names used!)are, by far, the most caring and thorough vets we have ever come across. We drive from Toronto to have our treasured "Jack" looked after by them and now, wouldn't have it any other way. Their excellent reputation is so well deserved!

The vet did a poor splint (covered the dogs foot which was not required) and this caused infection of the foot. Dog reacted badly to antibiotics. Vet argued with me and would not recast. My own vet had me recast with the foot open to the air and bearing some weight (as this should have been how the dog was casted in the first place. Vet was very nasty and unprofessional in front of clients to me.

Dr Lex and his staff are the best! I have 2 small dogs with health problems and thanks to Dr. Lex they are both doing great on their meds and his care. I highly recommend him.

I brought my 7 year old (former stud) dog here to get neutered. After the surgery I went to pick him up and the nurse who discharged us wasn't very informative. I told her I was worried because I've never experienced this before as this is my first dog. She was very dismissive and didn't send us home with any pain medication. I asked a lot of questions and she seemed annoyed with me, so I left and when I got home I called my regular vet and the nurse there gave me all the information I needed over the phone.

They don't charge as much as other vets but when our dog had an unusual disease they never found out and recommended the wrong treatment until we were fed up. I don't know why the other reveiwer are so happy. Probably their pet never had something difficult to diagnose. Go there to save money, but don't expect up to date medicine.

amazing vet!!! very breeder friendly, understands our needs and is always there 24/7. can be a little slow while waiting for appointments but that is because they give you the time you require and do not rush you out the door for the next appt.

I have been using this clinic for a number of years & the vets, staff & facilities are A1. I have a number of dogs & have found that their services are also more reasonable than other clinics. Would not hesitate to recommend them & have in the past.

EXCELLENT care always at NVS !! I highly recommended them to one and all. I live in a city with 3 vet. clinics and am a retired Veterinary Technician. There is a reason why I do not go to any vet. in my city and drive past another city to get to Dr Lex!!! HE ROCKS!!!~

We drive 1 1/2 hours to get to the office. We have only been taking our Berner there for the past two years. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I always get an honest opinion and they never try to do more testing then needed. I highly recommend Michelle and Lex.

My husbands family, as well as mine, all go to Colborne to get the best care towards our animals. We have know Lex and Michelle for about 17 years, and do not have any complaints towards them at all. He tells it like it is, when we need him for our pets, he is there in a flash. We truly look at him and his wide as our friends. I do know one thing, we will never switch vets, he is ours as long as we have animals !!! Yes he has feelings, we have had to make the tough call before and we did so with a very heavy heart.....All the best towards them. Their are a true vet that cares....:)

I do rescue and have spent time with many vets and never have we had such a great vet. Drive out of the way to see them (Michelle or Lex) as they are extremely knowlegable and don't just try and sell you stuff. Everything they do, because they believe it needs to be done. They listen to you and will offer advise but never tell you which way to make a decision. They are very honest in regards to prognosis and don't puch unlimited testing. All their staff is extremely caring and you can tell everyone in this office loves animals. Lex is very animated and likes to talk about his knowledge of his profession and you will come out knowing more about things you never thought you would know. Office is beautiful too.

top notch service and great prices. Lex and Michelle are fabulous and so are their staff. Country vets with country prices. we have been going to this clinic for over 14 years. I've never had a bad experience there. I've had to make that tough decision to say good bye to 3 cats over those 14 years and all I can say is the staff at this office made that very sad time easier to deal with. Wonderful sensitive ladies on the front desk who really care. recently we visited with our new puppy, Michelle was very excited to spend some time with our belgian Malinois...she has a belgian Tervuren ..both breeds are very similar other than hair length. she ran next door to her home and brought her Dino over to the clinic for me too meet.A very nice touch and great customer service!!! 100% A+++ wouldn't dream of going else where

This is the first vet clinic I have been to, that I feel, truly treats me as a member of my dogs health care team. L and M are top notch, with a vast knowledge base between them, with the animal's best interest coming first. I drive almost an hour, without any hesitation. Only the best for my furkids.

LOVE Lex the vet!!!! Extremely knowledgeable and I always learn something (despite my own indepth research). He's a talker, though, so punctuality sometimes suffers. Very collaberative and has the dogs' wellbeing at heart. Very cost-sensitive. Great value. I would trust all my animals with him.

My family was with this vet for many years. They were always good to us, and our pets. Until one day, we got a Sheppard mix. When he was six months old he started to have seizures. We later found out that he had epilepsy. Before his diagnosis, we had to take in there a number of times. The vet was not very sympathetic towards my family or our dog. Every time we went into the vet, he acted like we were inconveniencing him. He later confessed to my father that he does not like Sheppards. After this incident, we transferred vets, and we have not been back since. I would not recommend this vet.
