Spent a small fortune one year ago for a routine yearly checkup including heartworm antibody tests (which were negative) shots, and heartworm medication. This year I went back to get a prescription for heartworm medication to fill at Walmart to save a few dollars. Receptionist refused my request saying that federal law required a yearly checkup to prescribe heartworm medication. In reality, as Florida is horse and cattle country, any animal medication can be purchased without a perscription so that people can treat their animals in a cost effective way. The vet herself, could not even trim my dogs nails without drugging her. Two different local groomers had absolutely no problem trimming her nails WITHOUT medication and laughed at the ineptitude of this veterinarian
