Things have changed at the Riverbend Vet Clinic since they became VCA; maybe for the better; maybe for the worse. I feel sorry for the vets, as they may have lost the freedom to charge/work/interact with both their animal & human clients as they used to. I have been a client since 1990. I recently acquired a 5 yr old neutered male cat, & took him to the RVC vet for a wellness check & vaccinations. The vet whom I saw indicated that he has feline dental resorption, & showed this to me by pointing to one small, slightly pink area on the cat's gum. Then she indicated that it would cost me $1400 - $1900 to have the cat anaesthetized, x-rayed, the plaque removed, & whatever was deemed necessary performed. Which might have to be repeated any number of times during the cat's lifetime. No other solutions, ideas, assistance, suggestions were offered. As for the wellness exam: I felt that he was given a cursory look-over. RID: 67935

They have been great, we haven't needed any usual services though, just check ups, but they are always so gentle and always trim nails for me which is great!! RID: 63596

1/27/15   2     4     4     1   We had our dog come in for an emergency at 3.00pm. We were convinced to leave him overnight and in the morning he was found dead. we were then told that there was no one in the clinic from when they closed at 6.00pm to 7.00am the next morning. our bill was over$700 including the "hospital feee". WTH?? no one was with him. there as no surgery, just an exam, medication ($77) hospital fee and the fees associated with his death. Please, save your money and your pets and look else where. if you are in the west end look to Parkwest, they are excellent. RID: 55656
Click to report rating    6/9/14   5     4     4     5   Anyone with an exotic pet listen up. Dr. Horvath has been wonderful with all my reptiles (I have leopard geckos and a mountain horned dragon) and my rabbits. She is very knowledgable and always has great advice for me. She is very gentle and always makes sure they are at ease during the exam. She even warmed up a little hand towel for my nervous leo to make her feel more at home. The little things she does makes a BIG difference. The only negative thing I might be able to say is that the building is that some other the other staff (receptionists and some techs) can be a little cold when it comes to euthanasias. Other than that great place if you've got an exotic pet who needs some real TLC. RID: 52031
Click to report rating    3/27/14   5     5     5     5   My parents and I have been taking our pets to this clinic for twenty years. Dr. Bear is the best in the business and her staff are caring, honest, and fair, even over the phone in an emergency at no charge! The only office I trust with the care of my fur kids. RID: 50729
Click to report rating    7/16/11   3     3     1     1   I take my dog there as this is the vet that was recommended from where I got him(pet store). With my dog the vet was great!Moving slow, talking softly, trying to lure him out&didn't just yank my puppy(he was 4 months old at the time) out of his bag when he was scared to come out. With me tho,I barely got a hello.Only time I was acknowledged was when he was asking about my dog,if everything seemed ok at home, how I found him to be,any concerns,etc...but my greatest issue...cost.I brought my dog in for his last puppy shots,& $170.00 later I walked out!For 2 shots. I might be not use to prices here(originally from ontario)but that seemed a little high to me.More so for a 5 min appointment. So with my dog he was great!(sorry he never told me his name, either of the two visits!)but with me not so much,&the price was to high for my taste! Also,he wasn't on time, had to sit in waiting room until FORTY minutes PAST my appointment time!Staff was ok,but ignored us completely after confirming appointment. Click to report rating    9/6/10   1     3     4     1   I came here because our usual vet at Terwilleger couldn't fit us in in an emergency - the vet wasn't friendly at all and had no problem charging me $150 for a 2-minute procedure that she explained afterwards "wouldn't do any good". She then taped and wrapped my dog up so painfully tight that he was having problems breathing in the car and at home until I realized what was up and loosened his bandages for him. The staff at Terwilleger are wonderful and are so much better at explaining your options before doing unnecessary procedures on your pet and charging you hundreds of dollars. RID: 19591
Click to report rating    8/26/09   4     3     4     4   Nice staff, good service, can be a bit pricey but you get good care for the cost. The clinic is small and cramped for the number of vets they have, need an updated and bigger space. RID: 13994
