I’d never take another pet there again for emergency. I wasn’t allowed to be with her when brought in & wasn’t told how sick she was, until a phone call the next day telling us she wasn’t going to make it. Not even told what was wrong or what happened. Terrible

Don't take your pet here for emergency service unless you are afraid they will die. I waited 2 hours in a cold car only to have my dog returned to me with the same bloody bandage I had brought him in with. They offered no service for his bleeding wound and didn't even change the dressing. It was a complete waste of time and $200 and the advice I got to take my dog to my regular vet and put a T-shirt on him was kind of infuriating. The staff was nice but the vet kept interupting me when I asked questions and clearly had no time for my pet.

Our dog was in a lot of pain and we were able to receive quick service with clear feedback about the tests and the costs. They laid out our options in a clear and yet compassionate way. Our dog is so fearful and anxious of vets and she came out happy and confident. Great service and all this during a pandemic

Dr. Scammel is the most unprofessional, rude, coldhearted vet in the city! We took my cat there when he was blocked with crystals and Scammel lectured us on how "the protocol is to call ahead before coming down" and proceeded to leave us in an exam room while he chatted on a personal call in the next room. We heard every word!! After leaving us unattended for 20 mins we left and took my cat to another emergency vet clinic. I wrote on his admin. papers "Emergency!!! Maybe you should familiarize yourself with the definition!! I wouldn't trust you with my animals if you paid ME!" Unbelievable that he's still authorized to practice! Useless waste of skin!!

An odd group of people working here. Everyone I encountered are certainly lacking in people skills. This clinic should only be used as a last resort. Your pet deserves better.

I took my cat to emergency because he was having problems breathing. I agree with the majority of the people here, they say he was severely hydrated but when i asked about taking him to my own vet, they try to say they'll contact Animal Services, which is their scare tactic. They said they thought he had a tumor, so I decided to euthanize him. I'll never take any other animal to this clinic because if a vet tries to use scare tactics, then you know their trying to make extra money, and makes you wonder how honest are they. If you go here bring a tape recorder, then if they try to scare you, then you'll have proof of what they said, I wish i would have done that.

I have always had polite, caring, professional and "to the point" experiences here with my dog, this includes his ongoing care, surgical work and an emergency situation when he was very young.
Anyone who has run a small business knows that good staff (which are hard to find and keep) and managing receivables (getting paid) are critical to staying in business successfully. Pembina Veterinary Hospital has been here for years and I hope they'll be available to Winnipeg pet owners for years to come.

Dr. Leanne Hawkes is the best! Very caring, compassionate & thorough in her assessments. She has provided excellent care to my cats, especially after I recently adopted a kitty from a rural humane society. Unfortunately, it turned out that the kitten had several infectious healthcare issues, so this has required a # of visits over the past several mos. Yes, the meds can be expensive, but tis is a 24/7 clinic & I believe this adds to the costs. As for the front office staff, I would agree they could definitely improve upon their customer service skills. They have never been rude, but I would not describe them as particularly warm & welcoming. And their telephone skills would rank about the same; adequate.

I had a traumatizing experience two years ago with this vet. I took my puppy in since he was not well for an emergency. When I brought him in, the vet could not provide any information what may be wrong with him but still wanted me to leave him overnight with IV for $500. I could not afford that so I declined and said I would bring to my vet the next day. The next day while at my vet in the morning, Animal Services called and Pembina Veterinarian advised them that I gave my puppy narcotics. I was in shock for such an accusation and balling my eyes out at the vet. So please beware, they will fabricate a story to Animal Services if you decline their services. They are rude and only care about money.

Just had a bad expereince at the hospital the doctor I had was hostile and insisted on additional checks. When I asked for explanation she seems to interpret that as I couldn't undestand simple English. She for sure doesn't have a good character to be a doctor not mentioning threatening people by bringing up calling animal service.I'm not sure if veterinarians are regulated in Manitoba but as a professional in a different filed I suspect she has breached her duty of care to customer/patient and ethics in many ways. I will not recommend this place..

On two occasions I have brought two separate dogs to this Clinic / Hospital for the first visit it cost me $2,600 I did not complain about this $2,600 butt when the vet insisted that my dog needed another transfusion and three or four more days stay in the clinic at $400 a day to care for her the final bill would have been $3,800 when I refused the second transfusion and two additional X-rays paid for the stay $2,600 took my dog home and continued her treatment at home the vet called animal control and the Humane Society and insisted that she be brought back for the remaining three days blood transfusion and x-rays well I'm happy to say that I did not bring her back my dog is doing well and she is very healthy as for the second dog who had puppies the initial visit was $720 I was told that she would be dead by morning if not treated in the hospital for an additional $400 for the night and if she made it through the night in the hospital she would have to stay for another three days at

As a veterinarian technologist I am writing this to shed light on the negativity vet clinics get I understand when the bill comes you feel that's all they care about the fact is that other places you would have to pay for your own health care. Owning an animal can be costly believe I know but the veterinarians should not be penalized they are very hard working and especially emergency clinic when you have one doctor there and you feel they gone off cold they are there to give there honest opinion and it hurts sometimes but sometimes there are days the staff is working more than 12 hours insuring your pet is taken care of. It's not only the doctors but the techs and receptionist all help run the clinic and are extremely hard working. I have a vet on days that looks after my pets and I feel that they deserve more credit than what they get. I just feel that all that staff at every clinic needs more recognition and deserve to be treated with respect.

Unfortunately. This happens to be the only clinic that is open 24/7 for the time being... I have heard that another animal clinic is taking patients after hours and also Steinbach and Stonewall Vet Hospitals will accommodate pet parents. They are very caring and their prices are so low compared to Pembina Veterinary Hospital. Pembina is owned by Dr. David Scammel who is a money hungry vulture that really cares more about money than your pet. The majority of the staff are cold, especially Dr. Teerhuis formerly Krasnesky.... And the manager Debbie. It breaks my heart that many pet owners that are forced to take their pet because of the afterhours and treated like dirt and some are forced to put their pets down because of limited funds. Please do not take your pet here if you can at all avoid it. Look for alternatives. Hopefully soon Pembina will have competition and be forced to lower their prices but will their lack of caring improve? Probably not. A very, cold, money hungry business.

Performed orthopedic surgery on a dog and clearly were not experienced enough to handle the particular break. Acted like everything was healing well except the potential of infection (2 months post op when things should have been completely healed) until I started to get extremely suspicious and requested a second opinion from a specific OUTSIDE surgeon. **Hint... if they suspect an infection do not simply use the 'wait and see' approach with the consequence being a second surgery or loss of limb. Draw blood and verify ASAP! This is a no brainer for me. Don't want to know how many people they have caught with this** Second opinion is that the original break was fixed totally wrong and there will likely have to be a second surgery to fix it (with a much more skilled surgeon). Very disappointed in this vet clinic for not admitted their limitations (skill wise) and risking a dogs quality of life for it. Not to mention the money. First surgery was almost TWICE what was quoted.

The vets are ok, particularly Dr. Hawkes, she is very good. Most of the reception staff (not all) are rude and make you feel unwelcome, it didn't used to be the case, it seems recently they've hired some people who don't seem to know the importance of good customer service to a business. I've been going for years but I think I've had enough of the rude reception of late, I've spent too much money to be made to feel like I'm just a pain for bothering to care about my animals, and the eye rolling--Do they think people don't notice? i'm not sure if the vets are aware of just how unwelcoming and rude some of their front staff are, but they should give them some proper training if they wish clients to continue going to their clinic. Personally, I've had enough of it, there are lots of other clinics in Winnipeg and I'm taking my animals and money elsewhere.

Complete idiots working here, 1 day we were told there was nothing wrong with our pet, the next day we're talking over the phone trying to make out plans for a payment. And the next day they put our pet down without permission and without telling us, this same day we were making out plans for a payment. The next day when had gathered up the money to pay them before being transferred we received a call saying that our pet had been put down the previous day and that it was a lack of communication with the clerk and the doctor. These people are completely unprofessional and only in it for the money like almost every other review here states, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I'm currently doing research to see if any legal action can be taken and plan to speak to a professional vet and law-men, especially after reading all of these other negative reviews.

I went in after hours to PVH with my sick pet, and had an issue corrected. I asked how my vet missed it and got some eyebrow waggle and told they couldn't comment but that it was odd that they did miss it. I paid and had it addressed. I called my vet as I was upset they missed the problem, and they called PVH. The PVH vet left a message on my phone to call them. I did, and they were mad at me saying I misrepresented information I gave to my vet. I repeated to him what I told my vet about the trip to PVH. PVH vet told me the matter wasn't that serious and my pet was never in danger. So, were you playing on my worry for my pet to get me to pay? If it wasn't serious then why did it need to be addressed right away and cost so much? Then to scold me?? I'm not impressed and won't be going back.

I HAD to write this review because there are soo many bad reviews of this facility. My experience here was positive. I had to bring my dog in on Good Friday bacuse he was yelping in pain, not eating, drowsy, etc. It was visibly busy in there, but people seemed to be getting to the back with their pets in a timely fashion including me. The staff were pleasant and understanding. I found the vet to be a bit brash, but overall she was knowledgeable and reasonable in what she recommended for my dog. The cost was comparable to other vets I've been to in the past (although assessment fee more because of the holiday). My dog had to stay overnight for fluids and meds. The staff gave detailed updates. I took my dog to my regular vet in the morning because they have his history, but overall I want to emphasize how impressed I was with this place!

This veterinary clinic does not care about animals at all. They only care about the all mightily dollar. We took our little dog in early Monday morning 4 Am. he was in great distress yelping every time he moved. The vet really did not seem to care or have compassion for him. He did however take three x-rays of him and found he had a kidney stone lodged in his urethra. He suggested inserting a catheter up his urethra to try and dislodge it and see if that would work to clear it so he could empty his bladder. This so-called vet used a catheter made for a Great Dane our little dog is only 7.5 lbs. When this procedure did not work he told us we would have to take him to his regular vet (Transcona) and that would have to perform surgery to remove it. He never even gave him anything for the pain. Well in spite of Pembina he is doing just fine now after spending all day Monday at his regular vet with no surgery. That you for nothing Pembina vet, enjoy my 610.00 dollars. I hope it helps you.

I was not impressed. When I told him I was not working and had not income coming. I asked if there was something I can do at home. Should I be giving him some electrolytes at home. He suggested he blood work, xray and IV put in and kept there for a 24hrs period over $500 charge. I said I don't think so. I said to the Dr. That he had has kept the water he drank 5hrs ago.I can not afford that. I said not the the xray and the 24hrs still. It landed cost me $402.00 and all my dog was dehydrated.

My cat Tigger was in a house fire 5 years ago. He was treated at Beausejour Animal Hospital for a few hours then we took him to Pembina as Beausejour was not equipped to provide the care he would need. Tigger was on oxygen therapy and IV fluids for three days. They were very honest and said they were not sure if he would pull through. The staff said I could call at any time, which I did! We were able to take him home, and besides the occasional cough, he is back to his old self! Prices were high, but considering the fact that he had 24/7 care, and lots of it, we don't have complaints about that. I know there are lots of complaints on here, but the staff my cat's life, and without them he would have died.

I have had a very different experience than most of these reviewers. My vet was Dr. Van, he works during the day. I can't speak on the emergency part as I have never used it. Dr. Van has always been very compassionate and great with my cat. I have always felt like my cat was his only patient that day. Never felt rushed and always felt as though he cared about the well being of my animal. She is coming to the end of her life right now (20 yrs old) and there isn't anyone else I would want looking after her.

Our bunny was having a hard time breathing and we took him to pembina. They ignored us and even took the next walk in before us. They then said they had missed us walk in, even though it was 9pm and we were one of three clients. Then they had the bunny vet checked without us we were not allowed to be in the room. It turned out our rabbit would have to be put to sleep (that was no fault of theirs mind you) but they kept trying to convince us that we should try an aggressive treatment, finally I demanded to speak to the vet and asked her if she even thought he would live with the treatment, she said no. The techs were nice enough after that but this place is so obviously in it for the money that its just sad.

i have to say i dont understand some peoples comments on here. the pembina hospital is the day hospital with regular vets who i have seen for quite some time with all of my animals. the staff is always very friendly and even go out of their ways to help me when my pets are in need. i also find they're prices pretty reasonable. i have had to use the emergency service there after hours as well, which is run by different staff, and although it was a bit more costly it was well worth saving my pets life when no other clinic was open. it saddens me to know that such wonderful staff and vets are getting a bad reputation for a separte clinic that happens to run out of the same building. i certainly would recommend others to this clinic because the staff really do show compassion and care for both the animals and their owners.

I've used the Pembina Vet for years and they are excellent. I have cats and a dog and they've all been treated here. Dr. Paquin is an excellent vet who keeps you informed and follows up with calls. She has treated my cats for everything from regular check-ups to infections to end of life issues with competence and compassion. The techs and admin staff are also great. The Emergency Vet for Winnipeg is located here but they are separate from the regular vet staff. Having said that, I have not had a problem with them.

I had to rush my ferret in to them 2 days ago, the vet (Dr Krasnesky) was booked with surgeries all day but still made time to see him right when she got in. The staff was all super friendly and helped with everything that they could, if I had chosen a different clinic my ferret most likely would have died (the earliest appointment i could get anywhere else was 1pm, and not until 3 pm at some places). overall this is the most caring, and compassionate vet that I have been to, and all the staff is great. Dr Krasnesky called me personally throughtout the day and kept me updated on exactly what was going on, she made me feel like she wanted to do everything possible to save my ferret. The final bill was expensive but all vets run around the same, and in the end you get what you pay for. If you want a quality vet its expected that prices will be higher than vets that are not as experienced. I would definetely recommend this vet to everyone I know.

I live in the area and my dog ran away. Someone found him on Pembina and picked him up and brought him to this clinic. They called my phone number which was on my tag and told me that they had him and I can pick him but there would be a $50.00 charge that i HAD to pay that night. They must have had him for about 5 minutes, and when I came to pick him up they charged me $50.00 + tax so in the end I had to pay $56.00. VERY VERY poor service for a place that is supposed to help families and their pets. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE unles syou are a millionaire and can afford to pay their ridiculous fees.

Pembina vet clinic charged me $185 last year for exam fee, ear flush and ear mite medication for my cat. This year, my dog got ear mites, gave them to my cat and he got an eye infection. Pembina Vet quoted me $320 for the both of them BEFORE the price of medication and taxes. So when alls said and done, around $440. Instead, I hopped in my truck, drove 45 min to Pet Vet in Steinbach and they sorted it out for $95. NINETY FIVE DOLLARS??!!! This confirms my belief that all the city vets are a bunch of swindling con artists. The first time I took my cat there, they quoted $80 and it wound up being $185. When I complained, they implied that I don`t care about my cat. I walked out of there with the feeling that I just got raped. I care about my pets. It's a slap to the face to imply otherwise. These city vets need to quit worrying about how they're gonna make their BMW payments and think more about animal welfare. Seriously, I would have paid $200 and I wouldn't have felt ripped off.

We took our cat rescued from the WHS, two months after the adoption. She was going to be put down and she had been through a lot. One day we saw her having trouble breathing. She was suffocating herself and there was nothing we could do. We took her to Pembina Hospital very early in the morning, not knowing that those sharks charged an extra 100 dollars before 9 a.m. Our Royale was kept there for investigation. At 5 p.m. the same day, our bill was 400 dollars and they did not know what was going on with her. They gave her disgusting food she did not even touched, food they charged us for and we had to leave her overnight. Well, the next morning, the cat had her liquid removed from her lungs, the lungs were filled with water and the staff waiting for the tests to arrive. The next morning, our bill was 860 dollars and no reason to keep her there. We found out later in the day that she had lung cancer. They did not offer any word about helping her further on. Sharks, heartless and greedy

I took my dog there with bladder stones. They did two surgeries, damaged his urethra, then said it was too difficult for them to find and fix the tear. I took the dog to another vet who performed surgery to fix the damage they caused to his urethra but found that they damaged both ureters during the first two surgeries and despite his best efforts (5 1/2 hour surgery), he could not repair either ureter. Subsequently the dog died.

Repeat what everyone else has said DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE (No I will not call it a vetrinary clinic as that is insulting to those places. My dog was lethargic and vomiting. They did all these tests, gave him some saline, charged me $600, and told me they where not sure but just to watch him they next day or so and call back if anything. He started diarhea the next day and I called back. They told me they could not help me and to go see another vet. I just wanted to know if it was normal. However if I wanted to pay again I could go back and have him seen... ummmm didn't I already pay and do what they asked? I told them I had already paid and that I needed a simple answer. They hung up on me. Now I am off to a proper Vet clinic.

DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS HOSPITAL!! There was no medical discussion, the only conversation was about money. At our first visit they didn't have any idea what the problem was but immediately suggested a 1600 dollar surgery or euthanasia and we had to sign that we are taking our dog home against medical advice. When we wanted to ask more questions we were told that doctor Hawkes' shift ended and she went home. A few days later our dog recovered completely. (Without surgery) We hope no one will make a mistake of using this clinic.

i would not recommend anyone to bring there pet to Pembina. We feel they are only there for the money and do not want to help the animals. Our dog got his ear pulled and was crying and the vet didnt even let him calm down before pulling at his ears and trying to look in them. my dog jumped right off the table into my arms. thats never happend before at our regular vet. We felt there were a few members of the staff who were rude and they didnt even want to listen to our concerns. Dont bring your animals to this vet, there are other places where they will be treated way better.

If you care about your pet, DO NOT take them to Pembina Vetrinarian Hospital. Horrible experience dealing with staff and especially "vets". Brought my cat in beacause of a FUTD, it was the weekend, usual clinic was closed. Staff changes are so frequent nobody knows what is going on during the pets stay. When calling to receive updates always someone new, never receiving full details. They wouldn't let me take my cat home when I asked! Then during emerg hours only 6 hours after they removed his catheter, DR.S (a male) put another one in WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! The charges on that alone were $400 on a bill at $900. By this time my cat was very swollen sore and tired from being poked prodded, exasberating his condition, I demanded to take him home to rest only to recieve a young girl see me out with vauge info on his condition. The techs train as they go, the vets are cold and feed off the people who care more for their pets. Not sure if my cat will recover, but won't take him back there!
