Staged my dog's medical condition to make my dog an ICU patient. Drugged him into a coma, shoved a tube down his throat and then told me I need to do an MRI for $3500 to see why my dog is sedated on the tube because they put him on a tube against my consent, knew I did not have consent or knowledge of the risks and drugs involved to intubate a dog on a breathing tube, because they did this without telling what the drugs and risks involved are. They abused my ignorance, because of all the stress and shock I was under and then said I need to do surgery or an MRI if I want to get my dog off the tube or he needs to die. I refused and the doctor who drugged him and placed him on the tube assaulted my dog with the tube so violently that they told me to euthanize my dog. These people have no problem debilitating and even killing your animal in order to make money.

a 50$ x-ray will cost you 370$ at this hospital. Wait time 3-4 hours. reception, omg, not friendly would be an understatement. Clearly nobody wants to be there but us and poor animals.

that final decision had information of a different dog. This was not the first time this happened at the Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital, as when I signed the euthenization form I noticed that it also had the information of a different dog and pointed this out to the staff. They apologized and gave us a different sheet to sign, though I shutter to think what could have happened if I didn't catch that mistake. Now I am left with zero confidence that we made the right decision to end our dog's life as twice the hospital gave us the paperwork for a different dog. I will be doubting this for the rest of my life. Words cannot explain how shaken I am at the realization that we may have euthanized our dog based on a wrong diagnosis. I am disappointed, angry, sad, all in one. With other services you can always ask for a refund, but no refund would give us back our dog's life.

Truly disappointed with our experience here. This was my first experience with TVEH and we ended up there with our golden retriever who was declining quickly. After a quick exam we were presented with an action plan that was pretty outrageous. When I began questioning the incredibly invasive treatment plan and costs, the vet became incredibly condescending and then began scolding me. Cost is never an issue for us if the diagnostics being run make sense, but many of our boy's symptoms didn't match what the more invasive tests would be testing for. After her flat out refusal to start with x-rays and ultrasound once we got him on fluids and pain medication, we ended up leaving and going to Cavan Hills where we have had several positive experiences and we are so glad we decided to leave. After the way we were treated, I would never recommend this hospital to anyone.

Don't waste your with at the TVEH.Our dog has been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and so we were referred to Dr. Steven Patten. We arrived EARLY, but instead of being on time, we never got to see him at all. When we asked if our wait would be much longer, front line staff just made excuses for him. After being there over an hour, sadly, we left, and now we're looking elsewhere for care. So instead of properly managing the doctors time table properly, front line staff just made excuses. The facility looked good and clean but I cannot comment any further on that therefore a mid rating. AS far as punctuality is concern, we waited until we could wait no longer, so below zero rating if I could. Wasted time is wasted $$money so they failed there to. I also asked for him to call me back to explain himself.. he has not called back to date. I will be forwarding these complaints to the college. Don't waste your time here, your pets too important to waste on unprofessional like conduct.

I can not say enough good things about TVEH. My 5 year old cat began wheezing in the middle of the night, we were going to take her to the emergency vet on Kingston but they happened to be closed for renovations so we went to TVEH instead... I am SO happy we did. TVEH is a huge facility with everything you could possibly need on-site; cardiologists, neurologists, surgeons, critical care specialists, the list goes on. They were able to immediately tell that my cat was having congestive heart failure and as they went through treatment options, they were incredibly compassionate. Was it expensive? Yes. There isn’t universal health care for pets so I knew it wouldn’t be cheap but I never felt as though they were trying to upsell me, or guilting/pressuring me to spend outside my means. Because of the great vets and technicians, my little lady was able to come home.

Do not take your pet this hospital. After paying $200 for an emergency consultation, they weren't able to tell us a single thing other than recommending a number of additional tests that would cost us over $500.

worst experience ever my cat was dying, they wouldn't let me see her after i handed her in for tests. All they did is send in a vet and try to milk you as much as possible even though she couldn't be cured.

After countless horrendous experiences at both the VEC north and south I assumed all emerg clinics were ripoffs and uncompassionate. I am so happy to have found this place! I have come in after hours with my dog Skippy and received great care. But the specialists are OUTSTANDING. I have visited Dr Campbell, their neurologist, a couple times and he is thorough, patient with all my questions, compassionate and does not push for anything unnecessary. When I have had questions he was available to talk with me, and will respond to emails. Also their internal medicine specialist Dr. Smith has also been amazing at taking her time with me and Skip and calling with results and being available to talk further over the phone. Every doctor and tech I have seen believe to put quality of life over quantity, which I appreciate, and are compassionate and great with Skip and me. Last but not least, all of the front of house girls are always friendly, professional and caring. Thank you TVEH!!!!

My vet referred my dog for an emergency procedure, as he did not have the necessary equipment to perform it that day. He called ahead and told them I was enroute. After waiting two hours to see a vet, I was told exactly what my vet had said and was presented with an estimate for $1900 worth of tests that they wanted to perform before completing the procedure. I said I just wanted the procedure done and if it was unsuccessful, I would consider further testing. They would not do what my vet had referred me for, so I left, but not before paying $200 for a useless "emergency" consultation to tell me what I already knew. RIP-OFF artists that think everyone is made of money. I went back to my vet the following day and they had obtained what was required and performed the procedure. My dog is now doing well. I'm going to do some research to find a better, less money-oriented, more caring emergency clinic.

this hospital should be re-named as they do not deal with the emergency at hand. our dog was brought in alert, but in a diabetic emergency but they treated her for 12 hours with IV (not insulin) and as a result developed a blood clot (PE in the lung) and suffered. All they care about is your money, she couldnt breath but the critical care specialist is taking about money another 8,000 to try to do help her by the time i went to see her she had taken her last breath

Emma was referred to TVEH-results of CT showed a large tumor of her liver. The recommendation was if we wished to treat her then surgery should be performed asap. One hour after surgery started Dr. Avery Gillick informed me the growth was encompassing major vessels-her chances of surviving major surgery was guarded-given her agethe enormity of the growth and location. As a responsible veterinarian he offered me 3 options:
1)As she was asleep now-let her go
2)Awaken her to say goodbye 3)Allow the surgeons to continue. There was only one choice & proceeded with surgery. Why was I given choices?I realized with the prognosis & a high chance that I could lose Emma-I would still be financially responsible for the surgery. Many rant about the cost of our pets’ medical care-think about it- our care is funded by our medical plans government provided or private-pets are not.My Emma is recovering.Words cannot express my gratitude.Thank You to ALL the incredibly skilled and caring staff at TVEH.

I only rated them low on finances because, well, it is expensive for emergency care, but I guess it would be anywhere. My dog is currently there because of digestive problems, and so far I have been very impressed. It is a very trying time for me but the staff has been very good. I've spoken personally to Dr. Nelson several times and she returns my calls when she can, and explains everything. They only admitted my dog when it seemed very serious; prior to that I was advised to monitor her myself but became worried and wanted her checked in. I just came for a visit because she has to stay another night, and was allowed a 1.5 hour visit with no problems (could have stayed even longer if I my dog wasn't feeling poorly). The front desk staff have been very good as well. I don't know, I guess each person's experiences are different but so far am I hopeful that the doctors will find the problem and get my dog home to me.

I seriously question the validity of the negative comments here. Price - this is an EMERGENCY hospital people! You're going to pay for that. Also, you get what you pay for. If you want sub-standard care, go visit a regular vet whose only good at pushing for blood tests and prescribing unnecessary medicine. If you are looking for top notch care by top notch vet's, go to TVAH. They recently saved my dogs life who is only 5 years old. He was in ICU for 5 days and yes it cost - but since when do you put a value on a beloved pet? An idiot vet recommended I take my dog back there this weekend because of another medical issue, only to find out that she was mistaken, much tur relief. Sure they could have taken the dog for the night to monitor him but they said it wasn't necessary. If you can't afford the care, particularly in case of a medical emergency, then don't own a pet - SIMPLE!!! I highly recommend this facility - they are the best of the best in Toronto.

I called the hosptial first and was asked about the problem. Was advised about an emergency clinic that was much closer to my home. I told them I would be coming there anyway. When I arrived, they were ready for my pet. The male vet tech at the desk checked her over first. Very professional I might add. When she saw the doctor, he found her problem within 15 minutes. I had a good ending to my story and my bill was very reasonable. Would go back in a second. Thank you TVEH.

Fantastic, brilliant medical team. a bit pricey, but that is to be expected seeing as canada's health care wont cover our pets the way it covers us. :)

This place is fantastic. The staff and doctors are the most caring in the city. I've been here a couple of times and have always been treated with respect and kindness. My dogs are treated even better. Would highly recommend this place.

Won't be using this clinic ever again if I can help it. ER docs are very good but was assigned a specialist whom I felt was more interested in making money off me & my pet's suffering than in helping to guide me in choosing which course to take in treating my pet's illness. A few staff members were not very helpful or were dismissive in tone or frankly rude, unprepared and condescending. Other staff members were very nice, empathetic and helpful. Was told in polite terms to limit my visits to see my pet in ICU by non-medical/support staff because my pet got too anxious when I left. Was told on the phone that I better not be later than 11:30 am picking up by pet for an MRI, I got there at 11 am but had to wait an hour before my pet was ready for me to transport to the MRI. When I returned to clinic with my pet after the MRI, reception asked if my pet was supposed to be returned to their clinic!!! He needed to be on a catheter 24/7-where else would I take him????

The main problem I have is money concerns. They charge you way more than other places. They also send my dog home before hving the report done. The next day they told me I gotta bring my dog back. They should not have send my dog home in the first place, they should wait for all results and send her back when her situation is stable. Also, the vet kept saying the chance is 50/50. But I research the problem online, and ask a few other vets, is not tht negative. It is very command and usually it heals by long term medication. But the vet in this place kept telling me 50/50. which made my mom extremely worry, even the issue wasnt as serious as describe.
