Click to report rating    11/8/23   1     1     1     1   All they care is about the money they get. they do not have empathy for pets they never get the diagnosis right and they don't even acknowledge their mistakes. they always have an excuse for why things don't work out. Very sad place to take your pets?? RID: 70900
Click to report rating    8/26/23   1     1     2     1   Pretty sure they abused my 30 lb corgi. She's normally super friendly and loves people. Her groomer reports nothing but good things about her. Took her to another vet to get a second opinion and she tried to snap at him for even trying to touch her. The way I've seen them restrain my dog at Waterloo west is pretty abhorrent as well. They wouldn't even let me do it to keep her calm. Seriously, go anywhere else. They charged me $100 to bring my dog in because it was an 'emergency', bearly look at her, and feed her treats. RID: 70824
Click to report rating    10/10/19   1     1     1     1   Their treatment recommendations damaged my dog's health. They prescribed highly toxic chemicals to treat mites that eventually blew out her immune system and she developed horrible skin allergies. Also suggested cosmetic surgery "fix" a problem ... it was the wrong problem and would not have been fixed by the surgery. Did not diagnose accurately either. Nothing good came out of this clinic for my dog. RID: 68626
Click to report rating    9/12/17   5     5     4     5   The entire team at Waterloo west is very caring, compassionate and knowledgeable. I couldn't be happier with their standard of care. I highly recommend them to all of my friends, especially those with exotic pets. Their prices are a little higher than some clinics, but you really get what you pay for. Id much rather have exceptional care for my animals and a higher wallet than go to a questionable "low cost" veterinarian. RID: 64630
Click to report rating    3/24/17   5     5     5     4   I'm sitting here now and I can say that I am very happy with how my cat is being cared for. I got in late at night but called on my way and the doctor actually stayed late to see us. The bill was quite reasonable, all of the staff were kind, and my furry friend will be coming home as soon as the drugs from his procedure wear off. RID: 63143

9/26/16   5     5     5     5   Awesome experience, and great team of professionals at Waterloo West animal hospital. This Hospital really puts the little ones we love at the forefront.Timely reminder of appointments and also they call to find out if you pet is doing fine after vaccination or some other treatment. I would definitely recommend this hospital to everyone. RID: 61693

9/20/16   1     1     1     1   Avoid this place at all costs. I took my pet to them that was showing the very same symptoms for a life threatening ailment he suffered from a couple years earlier. I told the attending vet this and instead of doing tests to validate the ailment she opted for more expensive procedures. Two days later I returned with my pet since his condition declined and the same vet took one look at him and confirmed what she should have treated him for initially and even admitted so. Needless to say I had to put my beloved pet down because of the incompetence of the vets at this place. Their only concern isn't for your pet but rather how much money they can suck from you. This is unfortunate considering the reputation of this facility was built by the previous owner on compassion and love for animal and not the almighty dollar. If you love your pet as I did and want them to live then do your pet a favor and go to a elsewhere. RID: 61631
Click to report rating    9/8/16   2     4     3     2   There is poor communication at this vet. After finding that one of my rats ( who had to be put sleep) had lice, I was given Revolution for the rest of my rats (who have never been there before) and I was asked to bring them in for a follow up appointment. I did thinking it would be quick appointment with the smaller recheck examination fee. I was wrong. Going in no one knew that they were there for a follow up, nor did they know that they were already on Revolution. I didn't see the same vet, but someone else, who didn't seem to want to see my rats. I could hear this conversation in the hall from the room I was in. There was no more evidence lice, and in the end I got charged for two full examinations. They did not get full examinations. I am not pleased with how they handle records/information there. They also charge too much to brush around fur for a couple seconds. RID: 61533

9/24/15   2     3     4     1   IF YOU HAVE RATS, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THIS VET. You will get ripped off over and over again out of hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars. My rats had a simple case of mites, and instead of just letting us have a $20 tube of revolution, we were charged over $330 for unnecessary examinations for two of our rats and skin scrapings from one. Just as we suspected, our rat did have mites. Furthermore, instead of letting us treat all our rats for mites, the vet only wanted to treat the one he took the scrapings from. Likely, ALL our rats have mites. Our other rats also show symptoms of mites. If one rat has mites, you are supposed to treat all of them. If you research this, that is the standard practice. What's the point of treating one rat if she will catch it again? Oh right, money!! Plenty of people are able to access revolution without first having unnecessary examinations and unreliable skin scrapings. This vet will first make you empty your pockets. I told my breeder about this RID: 58510

4/22/15   2     2     1     1   The staff are ok, the facilities always seem ok and they generally seem to be able to deal with my dog in relatively reasonable amount of time. Routine care is ok, the problem is if your animal ever gets sick. My dog had digestive issues several times when she was a puppy and every time they need to do xray, various medications, etc. which add up to $1,000+. In the end, all she needed was some anti-nausea medication and some fluids and this cost me over $4,000 in her first 2 years. This vet seems to do excessive treatments to get money out of you, but it's my first vet so I don't know how it compares to others. RID: 56751

6/26/14   2     2     2     1   Yes, they have extensive hours, and that may be worth it to you. But watch out for all the extra bogus service charges and fees! For example, if you pet goes in for an x-ray (digital), it will cost you $69 per view, and a $75 consult fee. Sounds reasonable, right? But check out the bogus $85(!) "setup" fee. I asked what this is for, and they said it's to turn on the machine, and to input the patient into the system. Really!??? I thought that was called normal work. I thought of going here for my kitties because the hours are so extensive, but I think I'll stick with my other clinic, who also does digital x-rays. In summary - check that bill! If they're doing this type of crap, no wonder they never seem to have clients in the parking lot! RID: 52283

5/28/14   5     5     5     5   I cannot thank this team enough for everything they have done for my two bunnies :-) On Sunday, I called with an emergency, and they re-arranged their schedules to ensure that I was able to get into the clinic. From the minute I arrived it was great service - from the treatments to the medical advice. This team treats my bunnies like they would their own pets. I live in Toronto now, however, I still make the trip into Waterloo West Animal Hospital if my bunnies need to see a vet - because this is the only team I trust. I would highly recommend this clinic to everyone! (and I do! :-)) RID: 51823

5/21/14   1     1     1     1   Small pet owners BEWARE! I thought my dwarf hamster had a simple case of mites, he had a few little sores on his back. I had an appointment to take him to another vet, but had to wait 5 days, so decided to call here, was assured by phone that they deal with hamsters & was booked in the next day. The vet came into the room with a vet assistant. The assistant picked him up by his back (which had sores), the hamster freaked out - as anything would, she called him a "little bugger" & grabbed a washcloth & buried his head into it so he wouldn't bite her. He was then taken into another room for mite testing, no more than 2 minutes later, my poor little hamster was dead - likely of a heart attack from being so roughly handled by someone who should NOT be anywhere near animals. Please do NOT take your small pet to this clinic. I found out the hard way, and taking him to this clinic was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. The staff is not properly trained to handle small animals!!! RID: 51672
10/31/11   1     1     2     1   BEWARE! There is no reason to go to this vet; if you are new to the area, or have a new pet, please shop around before deciding. This establishment seems to be motivated purely by money. I started at Waterloo West with my new puppy, and we saw a different Vet each time. They gave the standard vaccines, and when they started preparing other ones, I had to ask what they were and why he should get them. They tried to give every vaccine under the sun all in one visit! They also told me that the Leptosporosis vaccine was mandatory, so of course I went along with it. I then researched Leptosporosis, and it is an optional, controversial vaccine for a disease that can't be contracted by a dog in our situation EXCEPT POTENTIALLY FROM THE VACCINE! They will also try to send you off with a stool sample kit every time you go; they add these things to your bill without ever consulting you, because most people will just pay and be none the wiser. RID: 28718
Click to report rating    6/3/11   3     4     2     1   The staff is compassionate but I do agree that they do a whole lot of tests without clearing it with you first. Over $800 in December to diagnose a UTI, close to $600 to put our one cat to sleep less than 4 months later. I hate going because I know I'll be walking out with a huge bill. RID: 25395
Click to report rating    2/11/11   5     5     2     4   I took my little Russian Hamster for tumor removal (mammary cancer). Dr. Mahboob is one of the few vets in Waterloo who specialize in pocket pets. He did an exceptional job removing all of the granulated tumor, considering her small size and the many nodules. She woke up from the anesthesia and went straight to running on her wheel! The surgery took a lot longer than expected so he gave me a discount; overall, the price was high and expected, not completely unreasonable, but his skill and expertise is appreciated. The RVT and staff were all friendly and caring. My little pet is more active and happier than she has been in months; she's doing great and recovering quickly. RID: 22773
