Click to report rating    11/8/23   1     1     1     1   All they care is about the money they get. they do not have empathy for pets they never get the diagnosis right and they don't even acknowledge their mistakes. they always have an excuse for why things don't work out. Very sad place to take your pets?? RID: 70900
Click to report rating    8/26/23   1     1     2     1   Pretty sure they abused my 30 lb corgi. She's normally super friendly and loves people. Her groomer reports nothing but good things about her. Took her to another vet to get a second opinion and she tried to snap at him for even trying to touch her. The way I've seen them restrain my dog at Waterloo west is pretty abhorrent as well. They wouldn't even let me do it to keep her calm. Seriously, go anywhere else. They charged me $100 to bring my dog in because it was an 'emergency', bearly look at her, and feed her treats. RID: 70824
Click to report rating    9/25/20   2     4     4     1   They misdiagnosed our pet, and gave a medication which led to us having to put our otherwise healthy pet down! Do not go to this vet... There is also a huge communication barrier, as one cannot understand what they are saying most of the time, because of their accents... RID: 69560
Click to report rating    10/10/19   1     1     1     1   Their treatment recommendations damaged my dog's health. They prescribed highly toxic chemicals to treat mites that eventually blew out her immune system and she developed horrible skin allergies. Also suggested cosmetic surgery "fix" a problem ... it was the wrong problem and would not have been fixed by the surgery. Did not diagnose accurately either. Nothing good came out of this clinic for my dog. RID: 68626
Click to report rating    4/28/19   5     5     5     5   Awesome service! I have been coming here for the past 10 years, and they take care of my 2 cats very well. They helped me a couple of times after hours too. They’re staff is so humorous, talented and not to mention so kind! Highly recommend. RID: 67955
Click to report rating    1/17/18   2     2     1     1   I was left feeling it was a cash grab. They did not give me the feeling they even knew what the issue was but just kept treating and charging. Terrible service. For food not opened or consumed, there was no return. RID: 65394
Click to report rating    9/12/17   5     5     4     5   The entire team at Waterloo west is very caring, compassionate and knowledgeable. I couldn't be happier with their standard of care. I highly recommend them to all of my friends, especially those with exotic pets. Their prices are a little higher than some clinics, but you really get what you pay for. Id much rather have exceptional care for my animals and a higher wallet than go to a questionable "low cost" veterinarian. RID: 64630

6/8/17   2     2     4     1   I think the staff is extremely about MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!!!. They are very pushy and they trying to sell you things/services that your pet doesn't need. I felt almost like they were trying to force me to get extra services for my pet. When I disagree, one of assistant raised her voice and become even pushier. Finally, billing :) Nobody explaining you for what you actually paying, you just need to ask them and here you go!!! 2 extra costs that I didn't agree on. RID: 63869
Click to report rating    3/24/17   5     5     5     4   I'm sitting here now and I can say that I am very happy with how my cat is being cared for. I got in late at night but called on my way and the doctor actually stayed late to see us. The bill was quite reasonable, all of the staff were kind, and my furry friend will be coming home as soon as the drugs from his procedure wear off. RID: 63143

9/26/16   5     5     5     5   Awesome experience, and great team of professionals at Waterloo West animal hospital. This Hospital really puts the little ones we love at the forefront.Timely reminder of appointments and also they call to find out if you pet is doing fine after vaccination or some other treatment. I would definitely recommend this hospital to everyone. RID: 61693

9/20/16   1     1     1     1   Avoid this place at all costs. I took my pet to them that was showing the very same symptoms for a life threatening ailment he suffered from a couple years earlier. I told the attending vet this and instead of doing tests to validate the ailment she opted for more expensive procedures. Two days later I returned with my pet since his condition declined and the same vet took one look at him and confirmed what she should have treated him for initially and even admitted so. Needless to say I had to put my beloved pet down because of the incompetence of the vets at this place. Their only concern isn't for your pet but rather how much money they can suck from you. This is unfortunate considering the reputation of this facility was built by the previous owner on compassion and love for animal and not the almighty dollar. If you love your pet as I did and want them to live then do your pet a favor and go to a elsewhere. RID: 61631
Click to report rating    9/8/16   2     4     3     2   There is poor communication at this vet. After finding that one of my rats ( who had to be put sleep) had lice, I was given Revolution for the rest of my rats (who have never been there before) and I was asked to bring them in for a follow up appointment. I did thinking it would be quick appointment with the smaller recheck examination fee. I was wrong. Going in no one knew that they were there for a follow up, nor did they know that they were already on Revolution. I didn't see the same vet, but someone else, who didn't seem to want to see my rats. I could hear this conversation in the hall from the room I was in. There was no more evidence lice, and in the end I got charged for two full examinations. They did not get full examinations. I am not pleased with how they handle records/information there. They also charge too much to brush around fur for a couple seconds. RID: 61533

9/24/15   2     3     4     1   IF YOU HAVE RATS, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THIS VET. You will get ripped off over and over again out of hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars. My rats had a simple case of mites, and instead of just letting us have a $20 tube of revolution, we were charged over $330 for unnecessary examinations for two of our rats and skin scrapings from one. Just as we suspected, our rat did have mites. Furthermore, instead of letting us treat all our rats for mites, the vet only wanted to treat the one he took the scrapings from. Likely, ALL our rats have mites. Our other rats also show symptoms of mites. If one rat has mites, you are supposed to treat all of them. If you research this, that is the standard practice. What's the point of treating one rat if she will catch it again? Oh right, money!! Plenty of people are able to access revolution without first having unnecessary examinations and unreliable skin scrapings. This vet will first make you empty your pockets. I told my breeder about this RID: 58510

4/22/15   2     2     1     1   The staff are ok, the facilities always seem ok and they generally seem to be able to deal with my dog in relatively reasonable amount of time. Routine care is ok, the problem is if your animal ever gets sick. My dog had digestive issues several times when she was a puppy and every time they need to do xray, various medications, etc. which add up to $1,000+. In the end, all she needed was some anti-nausea medication and some fluids and this cost me over $4,000 in her first 2 years. This vet seems to do excessive treatments to get money out of you, but it's my first vet so I don't know how it compares to others. RID: 56751

6/26/14   2     2     2     1   Yes, they have extensive hours, and that may be worth it to you. But watch out for all the extra bogus service charges and fees! For example, if you pet goes in for an x-ray (digital), it will cost you $69 per view, and a $75 consult fee. Sounds reasonable, right? But check out the bogus $85(!) "setup" fee. I asked what this is for, and they said it's to turn on the machine, and to input the patient into the system. Really!??? I thought that was called normal work. I thought of going here for my kitties because the hours are so extensive, but I think I'll stick with my other clinic, who also does digital x-rays. In summary - check that bill! If they're doing this type of crap, no wonder they never seem to have clients in the parking lot! RID: 52283

6/3/14   5     5     5     5   Wonderful staff. Always able to answer questions even at midnight. Yes they are open until midnight. Can't beat the hours. I have a wide variety of animals and have never had any problems with the doctors or staff. I have taken my 3 guinea pigs there for all their vet care, and recieved nothing but the best care. I highly recommend them for all your vet care. RID: 51929

5/28/14   5     5     5     5   I cannot thank this team enough for everything they have done for my two bunnies :-) On Sunday, I called with an emergency, and they re-arranged their schedules to ensure that I was able to get into the clinic. From the minute I arrived it was great service - from the treatments to the medical advice. This team treats my bunnies like they would their own pets. I live in Toronto now, however, I still make the trip into Waterloo West Animal Hospital if my bunnies need to see a vet - because this is the only team I trust. I would highly recommend this clinic to everyone! (and I do! :-)) RID: 51823

5/21/14   1     1     1     1   Small pet owners BEWARE! I thought my dwarf hamster had a simple case of mites, he had a few little sores on his back. I had an appointment to take him to another vet, but had to wait 5 days, so decided to call here, was assured by phone that they deal with hamsters & was booked in the next day. The vet came into the room with a vet assistant. The assistant picked him up by his back (which had sores), the hamster freaked out - as anything would, she called him a "little bugger" & grabbed a washcloth & buried his head into it so he wouldn't bite her. He was then taken into another room for mite testing, no more than 2 minutes later, my poor little hamster was dead - likely of a heart attack from being so roughly handled by someone who should NOT be anywhere near animals. Please do NOT take your small pet to this clinic. I found out the hard way, and taking him to this clinic was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. The staff is not properly trained to handle small animals!!! RID: 51672

3/13/12   5     5     5     5   Excellent veterinary care, a very accommodating staff too! I have always received informative and courteous service here! I recommend this hospital to my animal parent friends. They have helped me on numerous occasions after hours and treat my dog with care and respect. RID: 32856
Click to report rating    1/4/12   5     5     5     3   Our son was getting married Oct 1 and the night before his kitty hurt his leg. The clinic was closing in 5 mins. Clearly we could not make it there in 5 mins so Dr. Makkapati said to meet her at 9:00pm. The kitty had xrays, a laser therapy treatment and was given some medication. The Doctor was gentle, kind, loving and very thorough. My bill was exceptionally reasonable. We left with a happier kitty who was back on his feet from his soft tissue injury in a couple weeks. Thank you so much Dr. Makkapati you and Doctor Mahboob are wonderful caring Doctors! It is very comforting to know they are available day or night. I have NO problem recommending this clinic to anyone! You would have a hard time topping it. It is very unfortunate the past owner/vet left things in such a mess...it wasn't very nice and we feel for the new Doctors/owners. Wishing continued success and growth. RID: 30266
Click to report rating    12/6/11   5     5     5     5   The staff at Waterloo West are some of the most kind-hearted people I have ever known. Both Vet's go beyond the call of duty. Last Thanksgiving my darling Daisy decided to get sick. I was able to call the emergency number at 11pm on Sunday night. One of the doctor's actually called me back at that late hour. He told me how to proceed with taking care of Daisy and also what to watch out for if she got worse. I wish I had as good of care as my puppies do because I tell you there is no way I would have gotten a hold of my doctor at that hour. I feel truly blessed that my puppies are in such good hands. It is not just myself that feels this way about the positive atmosphere at the hospital. Daisy gets so excited if I tell her we are going there. Daisy loves being there whether it is for a medical visit or boarding for a couple of days. She has even passed on her enthusiasm to our latest addition to the family Bella. I would not trust any other animal hospital with my four-legged family. RID: 29617
Click to report rating    11/29/11   5     5     5     5   Great care to my dog with an excellent diagnose. Prices were very reasonable compared to my previous dog's vet rates. The clinic provides prompt attention, basically, they are there for you at any time you need. Their staff is very professional and friendly. I strongly recommend this clinic. RID: 29470
Click to report rating    11/27/11   5     5     5     5   I have been so pleased with the two new Vets. They have been so polite, caring and professional. They kindly explain the medical situations with my 2 cats and 1 dog. I have found their prices to be less than the previous Vet. It is nice to see the same helpful support staff. I also appreciate their Sunday hours and extended evening Emergency services. The offices are clean and no longer smell. I was very upset when Michelle left, without telling her clients. I had been a client for well over 10 years. I had concerns about her care of my animals but stayed out of loyality. The knee surgery she performed on my dog, was unsuccessful and required repeat surgery. De-claw surgery on my cats resulted in infections and arthritis. Michelle's prices were also too high. I strongly encourage pet owners to give the new owners a chance. I can't speak highly enough of their care of my 3 furry family members. RID: 29419

Click to report rating    11/18/11   5     5     5     5   I love this clinic,my dog broke her cruciate ligament and I checked on different clinics they recomend TPLO sx which is very expenessive. The male vet at this clinic said he can do it with nylon with much less price as of tplo.My dog had surgery here and has very good recovery. My dog is again now very happy dog and thanks to this clinic and their staff. My dog has all follow ups with no charge.DO NOT listen to other reviews,I will strongly recomend this clinic. RID: 29230
10/31/11   1     1     2     1   BEWARE! There is no reason to go to this vet; if you are new to the area, or have a new pet, please shop around before deciding. This establishment seems to be motivated purely by money. I started at Waterloo West with my new puppy, and we saw a different Vet each time. They gave the standard vaccines, and when they started preparing other ones, I had to ask what they were and why he should get them. They tried to give every vaccine under the sun all in one visit! They also told me that the Leptosporosis vaccine was mandatory, so of course I went along with it. I then researched Leptosporosis, and it is an optional, controversial vaccine for a disease that can't be contracted by a dog in our situation EXCEPT POTENTIALLY FROM THE VACCINE! They will also try to send you off with a stool sample kit every time you go; they add these things to your bill without ever consulting you, because most people will just pay and be none the wiser. RID: 28718
Click to report rating    10/19/11   5     5     5     5   I have two bunnies. They are both over 10 years old. One required a hernia operation and the other dental work. I thought I was going to have to put the one bunny down because I was worried that a hernia operation on my old bunny would be ineffective. I (at first) took my bunny into Guelph animal hospital which wanted to charge me over $1,000 to do this surgery, which is not something I cannot afford. I called around and told my situation to Dr. Mahboob- which was the best decision I have ever made. He is extremely caring and very talented. He conducted a very successful operation on my bunny (for the hernia) and the other had successful teeth work done. At an extremely reasonable cost. Both of my bunnies are now living like they are younger than before. Dr. Mahboob is extremely talented and I would recommend him for your family pet without question. I have already referred him to my close friends and family and they are all very happy as well. RID: 28424
Click to report rating    10/18/11   5     5     5     5   Excellent staff and very knowledgeable doctor. best place for our little charlie. RID: 28412
Click to report rating    9/12/11   1     1     1     1   Our dog died because of this clinic. We took St. Pierre to the OVC who found her to have failed that Standards of the CVO, as well as failing her in many other departments. The court case is on file in Kitchener. He went in for a neuter and was left on the floor of the examination room, hauled to the car on a stretcher without the ability to move anything but his eyes, while the vet left to look after her new clinic under construction. Surgery notes incomplete, dated for a year previous, just lie after lie after lie! RID: 27559
Click to report rating    8/19/11   3     3     2     2   I was reading through all the comments and completely agree with both positive and negative comments for the most part. It is now a clinic to easily be torn about. Completely agree that with the two new Veterinarians there that this Clinic has gone from a 5 star rating to a 2 or 3 at times. Not impressed with the costs, in the sense that they are trying to 'upsell.' I love the Technicians, some of the best I've come across as well as the Receptionist. The vet's themselvs could use a little better 'bedside manner.' I am currently looking for a new clinic. And yes, everyone definitely misses Dr. St. Pierre and if we found out where she was practicing Waterloo West would lose a ton of clients. (Which is likely why we weren't told until after the fact) RID: 27043
Click to report rating    6/6/11   3     5     5     1   I am so disappointed that Dr. St. Pierre sold the business and without any warning. I only went to Waterloo West for Michelle so didn't know where to go once I found out she was gone. Took my dog that Michelle had cared for lovingly for 8 years to my daugher's vet and received and paid for the same services I received at Waterloo West for $100 less. I found that I was paying for unnecessary tests that were very costly. I am sorry that Michelle is gone and I will miss her as I found her the best vet out there, but being a good pet owner I had to find another vet to take care of my beautiful furr baby. I felt left in the loop and really didn't know which way to turn. After trusting Waterloo West for 8 years you would think someone would have notified us sooner and in a more professional way than a newsletter. RID: 25429
Click to report rating    6/3/11   3     4     2     1   The staff is compassionate but I do agree that they do a whole lot of tests without clearing it with you first. Over $800 in December to diagnose a UTI, close to $600 to put our one cat to sleep less than 4 months later. I hate going because I know I'll be walking out with a huge bill. RID: 25395
Click to report rating    5/23/11   5     5     5     5   I had an emergency and upon recommendation contacted this clinic. They were compassionate and most kind in dealing with the situation. I would not hesitate to return and place the care of my pets in their very capable, caring and professional hands. RID: 25175
Click to report rating    4/8/11   2     4     1     3   I have exotic pets, this clinic told me they no longer do exotics. My iguana was sick and I suddenly had to find another vet. It was horrible. She was a great vet when we were there tho. I'm just very shocked how she just left, even if it was business agreement not to tell clients about the sale of the clinic, she could have at least told the exotic pet owners they would need to find a new vet. RID: 24237
Click to report rating    3/29/11   2     2     2     1   I went into this vet for flea treatment. I left with a bill of just over 500 dollars. The new owners here just try and get you for what they can. Even though I had declined to have a stool sample sent away, I checked my bill after I got home and realized I was charged for a stool container which I said I didn''t want and didn't even receive. This place is such a rip off. Heritage vet is in my opinion the best vet and even lowered prices for a surgery my cat had because they knew i could not afford it. RID: 23938
Click to report rating    3/5/11   3     5     5     1   Absolutely unethical charging, and a huge lack of transparency for diagnosis and treatment!! We took our 5month french bulldog pup to them because he had thrown-up a few times and had been eating 20% less food over one week. We explained that another puppy in his playgroup had very similar symptoms, so assumed that he likely only needed antibiotics. The vet performed a series of blood tests and an x-ray (which turned out to be inconclusive because, as he stated, we have a small dog), for a grand total of $632.00! In the end our pup was fine and needed only antibiotics. The owners of the other pup in the playgroup paied only $200.00 at Bucks. We have made a costly error choosing Waterloo West! RID: 23352
Click to report rating    2/11/11   5     5     2     4   I took my little Russian Hamster for tumor removal (mammary cancer). Dr. Mahboob is one of the few vets in Waterloo who specialize in pocket pets. He did an exceptional job removing all of the granulated tumor, considering her small size and the many nodules. She woke up from the anesthesia and went straight to running on her wheel! The surgery took a lot longer than expected so he gave me a discount; overall, the price was high and expected, not completely unreasonable, but his skill and expertise is appreciated. The RVT and staff were all friendly and caring. My little pet is more active and happier than she has been in months; she's doing great and recovering quickly. RID: 22773
Click to report rating    2/10/11   5     5     5     5   I love love love the new vets at this clinic. Very kind loving and compassionate. They treated us very very well when we sent the last of our older kittys home to heaven.....and now with our three new kittys and our son's two new kittys. They take their time and are so good with our furry family members.....Thank you to all the staff especially Carol and Jen and the two doctors....Please know that you are respected and appreciated. If the clinic hadn't been sold to the new doctors we would have been gone! But we love you all - thank you for doing a great job.... RID: 22760
Click to report rating    2/9/11   5     4     4     5   Took my dog there and they handled her so well!! She is very timid of a lot of people but here it seemed like she was at home!! Great value for the care you are getting from these people. Would recommend to any of my friends. RID: 22694
Click to report rating    2/5/11   4     5     5     4   I have had no real issues with this vet since St Piere sold or even before she did.... Yes she sold it without telling people, which isnt very professional but she isnt there anymore.... The new vets have taken care of my 3 dogs with no problems or high costs. The secretary there is very friendly and so is most of the staff! I have heard numerous great things about this vet and will remain a client of theirs for as long as they are there. They have shown their expertise in my dogs care and have also helped my lizard! Great Job Waterloo West... Keep up the great work! RID: 22601
Click to report rating    2/3/11   3     3     4     3   I had to euthanize my guinea pig today. I took it to this clinic 12 days ago to have his teeth clipped as he was having difficulty eating hard food. He didn't eat food again after that visit. I had to feed him with an eye dropper and critical care formula for 12 days. Today I took him to a veterinarian that specializes in guinea pigs. I was told that his jaw was not where it should be and that he may never be able to eat on his own again. I was also told that misplaced jaws in guinea pigs are usually genetic where the condition shows itself at birth. Highly unusual for this condition to suddenly appear. The specialist did not say that the previous vet caused this. He just gave me the facts. I put them together. RID: 22561
Click to report rating    1/24/11   1     1     1     1   DON'T GO TO THIS VET!! The first vet at Waterloo West sold the clinic immediately following our dog's knee ACL surgery (she got the $$$ first) and we suddenly had a new vet when we took our dog back for her recovery/physio. The old vet didn't even tell her staff she was selling. SO UNPROFESSIONAL. Anyway, our dog's leg swelled 3 times the size post-op and she didn't eat for 4 days. We thought she would lose her leg. We have spent thousands at this vet, only to have the new vets tell us she will need surgery again in a year for her torn meniscus (because her leg clicked!! which is RUBBISH) and that her other knee would likely need an operation as well. I left so visibly upset because we made our dog lame and they didn't fix her . We never returned and went to a new vet who tested her leg to see how the meniscus was (not torn, it turns out) and warned us the other leg would need surgery if she was overweight, so she's on a diet now. We are now at Beechmount and loving it. RID: 22327
Click to report rating    10/26/10   3     1     3     1   My family has used this vet for years and if not for two particular Vet Techs and a wonderful receptionist we would have been gone a long time ago. First you never ask her questions - she hates to be questioned. 2nd her prices are so ridiculously high and don't reflect the service. To top it off I understand she sold the business and NEVER told anyone! We are all glad she is gone gone gone.... RID: 20500
Click to report rating    6/13/10   2     3     3     1   Probably one of the worst vets I have seen. On our first appointment, we were rushed in and out, with neither dog receiving a proper physical (the vet checked the mouth, eyes and ears of one and the general torso of the other). They did not carry the heartworm meds we wanted and would not order them in, instead insisting that we had to use one of the brands they liked and carried. On the second visit they did a slightly better physical of each dog but still managed to miss the fact that one of my dogs is blind in one eye and when it was pointed out, said that they couldn't even guess at why (it's a cataract, fairly common if not in so young a dog). When doing a thyroid panel, they repeatedly ignored my insistence that it was to find out if the dog had an issue rather than to check an issue that we already knew about and were checking. I told them four times that this was to find out if there was an issue (twice on the phone, once at the desk and once to the vet) and still ran a ch RID: 18371
