Dr. Young is the best rabbit vet I've had. He is very knowledgeable and cares about the animal. The staff is always so friendly.

Our experience with Hillside had been average and the staff are generally very kind. Our dog had surgery here to repair damage to his skin and subcutaneous tissues after an unfortunate collision with a wrought iron fence. While the wound was stitched and healed sufficiently, the confusion on the day he was brought in about whether he would be treated here after all or need to be taken to the emergency clinic left us distraught. The open communication was welcomed but more could have been done to instil confidence by making those decisions before engaging us. It left us feeling unsettled. A number of stitches were concealed in the healing wound as well. We brought him back in because he seemed very irritated and I found a stitch protruding. He had this one removed and we were reassured that was the last one. Since, I have removed three more stitches that have come to the surface and he has been continuously agitated by the now entirely healed wound so I suspect there may be more yet.

My dog Odin got hit by a car 3.5 months ago, I brought him into this vet about a month or so after he was hit and they screwed up my invoices going to trupanion I had to wait weeks before getting my re emburments.. he's had the okay to start hydro therapy since he was at the 6 week mark and I've been waiting a month to hear back from them I've called several times the staff who answers the phone is short tempered and rude, they're trying to make me see one of their doctors to get the okay to start him even though he's had the okay from his regular vet for weeks now, so I'm guessing it's a money grab, so far I've been to McKenzie vet and Canada west, and Victoria animal hospital and hillside dealing with my dogs injuries and hillside has been by far the worst place, I would highly recommend the others but hillside if you don't have to go I wouldn't. I have no choice seeing as they are they only vet in Victoria who does hydro therapy.. I wish I had other options.

We took our cat for entropion surgery on her eye. The surgery was unsuccessful and the only way they would redo the surgery without charging us again was to do dental surgery (circa $2000) within a time period since the blood work had already been done with the entropion surgery. We opted not to do it.

Very pleased with Hillside Veterinary Hospital. So beyond compassionate and caring. They recently fit me in on emergency when they had no appointments available and were so helpful and informative. I'm occassionally a last minute kind of person and requested a prescription refill just before they closed and they were happy to help and get it filled immediately for me. Can't say enough positive things about this practice.

Hillside Vet has caused a sudden decline in our beloved border collie leading to her death. She was given a medication which was to help with arthritis but the vet didn't bother to look over the bloodwork or consider existing contraindications. Receptionist wasn't much better, when I called in tears she showed less compassion than a robot. Now my best friend is gone and I'm left blaming myself for trusting the vet and not researching the med and asking for her the copy of bloodwork.

I loved our vet, Dr. Hyzka, but the office staff are a trial to deal with every time and even the most routine visit ends up costing hundreds of dollars somehow. The last time I was there, the office manager didn't provide the correct documents for travel, costing me even more to correct elsewhere. I just wish the doctor would switch clinics, but I guess I have to. Very disappointing.

Thorough and caring. Very skilled and compassionate Vet techs. Dropped my dog off for surgery and he was examined by the tech and she explained the procedure to me and answered all my questions. She called me once the procedure was done and eased my mind about how the day was going for my baby. At pick-up, time was taken to go over post-operative care and medications. Excellent follow-up care as well. They have great techs there. I think they hire the best of the best. Of course we would all love subsidized vet care or free vet care, but that wouldn't pay for all their equipment and supplies, and staff, and building, etc. I like to know they have all of this here for me when my pets need it. They also include everything on their estimate so no surprises. It may seem higher than other places, but you're getting best medical practices. They do the best for your pet.

5 minute check to tell me I would need sedation and xrays for a proper exam. Still charged 80 do?lars for time spent. Estimated another 500 for sedated exam and xray. Suggested may need 2000 dollar sugery for possibly torn ccl and another 200 in supplements. I realize ccl is priceybut felt like they were testing my credit limit based on a limited assessment.

As I live in the area it seemed a natural to go to Hillside Vets. My puppy's first visit was ok...didn't want to give me a puppy pack except I asked for it. 2nd situation, I ran my choking puppy to this vet...two vets working, both went for lunch together so no vet on duty. No competency here. The receptionist tried but was not much help. I had to drive to Victoria Vet Hospital while my son massaged puppy to help her breath. All that wasted time she could have been left with brain damage, or worse died. Took my girl to a different vet, she is now a healthy 4yrs.

Hillside was recommended to us by Dr Margaret Cairns at Juan De Fuca Veterinary Clinic (a wonderful vet!) when our 12 year old dog Otis (who had previously had hip dysplasia surgery on both hips)was recovering from Cranial Cruciate surgery as it had the Rehabilitation expertise and facilities to give him a better chance at an enjoyable life. Our interactions over the past 3 years with Dr. Newman and the rehabilitation techs, primarily Karen, included hydrotherapy, chiropractic, massage and ongoing wellness therapies. Their exceptional efforts provided Otis and us with 3 extra years of active and joyous life and when the time came to release Otis they were also there with love and compassion. When our new companion arrives, her first stop will be Hillside Veterinary Hospital.

Been there for three visits with my cat and each time they tried to sign me up for $2000 dental surgery - even though the cat has no symptoms and was brought there for urinary problems. I think that they fleece people by convincing them to have unnecessary dental surgery done on their pet.

After 17 years of loyalty I am looking to change clinics. Although the staff and doctors are lovely, I find the money issue unethical. I was quoted 'about 150 dollars' for a treatment, booked the appointment, then phoned to CONFIRM the cost as this industry has a reputation for upselling. She confirmed the 150 fee for the procedure. When I dropped off my pet, I was asked to sign a waiver for up to 525 dollars!!!! The base procedure was now 270. Maybe they assumed I was vulnerable - I'm not. I walked out and am now looking for a new clinic. Is this miscommunication? Dishonesty? Unethical? I don't know. I hope not. But, no follow up phone call, no customer service response. Disappointing.

Great hospital, kind, caring. My guinea pig would have died had Dr. Borwein pulled out all the stops and fixed her. The prices are reasonable too, for little critters anyways.

Have had a few dealings with them regarding my rabbits and all have been good. The front staff is friendly and the vets and vet techs I have encountered have been great.

I moved my two cats from here after one of the vets recommended 'at least two, maybe more' teeth be extracted from one of them. I had the preop bloodwork done but was glad to receive a second opinion from a retired vet before the surgery time. He reviewed her history and examined her. He indicated 'she has the teeth of an 8 year old cat' and he wouldn't recommend any extractions. I saved my cat the loss of several teeth and the estimated $1000-$1500.

If Not for the vets I would run from this clinic, Most front desk staff are absolutely horrible.Tons of attitude about everything. Two are great and personable. I do not at going in there unless needed. The front desk staff used to be great, not now. I will switch vets if it continues.

Dr. Borwein was so good to our cat, who is normally afraid of vets. She always recommends the best for our pets, and is very kind and gentle.
