Click to report rating    1/27/20   1     1     3     2   This hospital nearly killed my dog. He came in almost a year ago for a broken leg. They wrapped it too tight and that was my first time experiencing any of this so I didn't know better. I did not know, and they did not push, the fact that he needed a prompt bandage change. 2 days later when it smelled like rotten meat and was weeping clear liquid, I called CVVH, concerned, to be told that is normal. By the next day he had gone gangrene and Waves Vet Hospital saved his life. 17 days in ICU on IV antibitoics and fluids, 4 surgeries, 63 days of antibiotics, 2 months of crate rest and close to $15,000 and 9 months later Waves was able to fix the DAMAGE and NEGLIGENCE caused by Central Vic Vet Hospital. I don't know who oversaw my dog that night at CVVH but Tracey Cornish and Lynette Browne were the vets on staff. I kept my home-care notes from CVVH as proof of lack of patient direction. I would like to know who wrapped him, and who I spoke to on the phone who mis-directed me. RID: 69004
Click to report rating    9/22/19   1     3     3     1   I was very disappointed in the treatment of my mother's elderly and sick cat (with kidney failure). Despite the cat's obvious decline and distress, the vet on call recommended extensive (and expensive) diagnostic testing and other alternative treatments. She seemed determined to "sell, sell, sell" - with no consideration about what was humane to my elderly mother or her cat. Her interest was in profit and not for patient or pet-parent well-being. Disgusted. RID: 68573

8/30/18   1     4     2     1   Unfortunately I would not recommend this clinic or Dr. Lynnette Browne but they are the only after hours option so you may have no choice like we did. It is going to be expensive if you don't have pet insurance, be prepared. We knew this going in from past experience, online reviews and stories from other pet owners. We waited a long time last night. After 1.5 hours we spoke with Dr. LBrowne and her bedside manner was not good - both in lack of empathy and explanation of options. She told me she didn't have time to explain the reason for an x-ray (despite the additional $300 cost) and how one would make a difference to our kitten's care as she had other patients to see. I am fairly well educated. If I had not had some confidence in my ability to analyze information it would have been overwhelmed by her authority and insistence and I likely would have signed off on the complete $1500-$2500 estimate for our kitten - who is now fine. The bill was still $1277 for under 24 hours of car RID: 66732
Click to report rating    8/30/18   5     5     5     4   I never write a review at all no matter what. However,my puppy had PDA and it is related with heart murmur from born. I was looking for a good surgeon for my puppy and I read some bad reviews for Central Victoria Vet Hospital and surgeon so I tried to avoid this facility. I was going to take my puppy to Calgary for the surgery but I just gave a chance to have counselling with Dr.Bolliger and he explain about surgery, recovery and all about PDA very well. So I decided to have surgery same day. Now my puppy got new life and she is very healthy and joyful. I really wanted to THANK to Dr.Bolliger and he is awesome!! Whoever hesitate to take your pet to Central vet hospital, I have an excellent experience with all the staff and Dr.Bolliger so go ahead and do what you need to do for your pet! I highly recommend this hospital to everyone! RID: 66731

Click to report rating    2/11/17   1     2     2     1   I recently had a horrible experience in this office and it wasn't the first time! My dog was referred there for a CT SCAN. When I went to pick him up he was heavily sedated. They forced me to manage my 90 lb sedated dog in their waiting room for 25 mins while I waited to settle my account with them. They then told me to leave as they would submit to the insurance company and let me know if there was aNY balance due. They also told me they would call me with the scan results in 24 hours. 48 hours later, they never called. I called them and was told I needed to call my vet for results. My vet had no report or results. A few days later someone very rudely called me and demanded to know why there was a small balance on my account?! I told them what I was told to do. They didn't care...they demanded immediate payment. My dog had surgery elsewhere on both elbows and couldn't be left alone. They refused to bill me or accept payment by cheque! They demanded payment by credit card! RID: 62641
Click to report rating    8/12/16   1     2     1     1   The young vets seem to want to focus more on their wallets and bonuses than they do on the care of an animal. Very disheartening! Try to sell shots that aren't needed. I certainly don't trust them! RID: 61314

2/3/16   2     5     1     1   The facilities are very impressive but there are serious scheduling issues and even more serious compassion issues. The younger techs and front desk people are very nice but at least one of the female vets was incredibly rude and showed LESS than zero compassion for us not being instantly willing to give them almost $3000 to perform umpteen tests on our 20+ year old pet. We have provided amazing care for our pet to even GET to 20 years old. We're hardly cheapskates. But zero respect for any of that and treated like scum for even wanting to discuss some of the tests they wanted to do. Zero respect for our feelings, concerns during an awful time. A second vet would confirm that 90% of what CVVH did was unnecessary and a money-grab. Also took more than an hour to get pet discharged and clinic wasn't even busy. Lots of vet techs standing around giggling and doing nothing. RID: 59675

11/12/15   1     3     2     1   The care of my pet was adequate. However, the cost was unbelievably expensive and I feel unnecessary and extremely expensive tests were pushed. The whole focus seems to be how much money they can make. RID: 58948

5/9/15   5     4     5     5   I read through some of the comments here, and I am surprised by the short-sightedness of some people, clearly driven by emotion rather than fact. I had to bring my dog there recently, and he was treated by several vets during his stay. Sadly, I can only remember the names of Dr.s Lana Bissett, and Blair Gurney. However, they were all wonderful. Dr. Bissett was the first one I dealt with, and she clearly outlined to me the BEST treatment for my dog. Yes, this was very expensive, due to the fact that this is an emergency facility with amazing staff 24 hours a day, and all of the equipment to do diagnostics, surgery, and whatever else is required all on site. She also gave me other, less expensive options when I asked, and let me decide how to proceed. I know my pets are my responsibility, financially and otherwise, and these people are here to help guide me with gold standard options. Dr. Bissett and the others saved my dogs life. They are the best and I will always be grateful! RID: 56952

10/21/14   5     5     4     5   I was just looking this site over as a friend mentioned the comment about Dr Kevin Oomah at Central Victoria Vet Hospital being a rip off artist. That couldn't be further from the truth. My visits with Doctor Oomah are always below expected financially and I trust him so much it's priceless. I would never have a pet see a different vet. It's shocking someone would see he's a rip off artist. He's an excellent vet RID: 54203
9/12/14   3     5     5     3   Your experience at the Hospital will be 100% based on which DVM is working. I always call before going in unless it is life threatening. Thank goodness the right DVM was working both times I needed help ASAP; the price was reasonable and my pets were saved. Dr. Kevin Oomah is a 100% RIP OFF ARTIST, he insisted on doing a $300 blood panel before doing stitches on my very healthy 2 year old dog. AVOID Dr OOMAH AT ALL COSTS!!!! RID: 53518
Click to report rating    9/8/14   2     4     3     1   Very upset with this animal hospital. We brought our kitten in and the vet quoted us an outrageous price ($1100) and unnecessary treatments. After a lot of hesitation and asking several questions (like 25 min of us probing if this is really necessary), we decided to not keep out kitten overnight at the hospital. Then the vet gives us another alternative which only cost $50 and didn't involve hooking our kitty up to an IV all night. We took her home and she was fine. Back to her normal hyper self actually. Ridiculous! These people do not have your pet's best interest in mind and only care about money. I can't believe they were going to stress the kitten out unnecessarily for a few extra bucks. That is inhumane. Be very cautious when taking your animal here and always ask questions. RID: 53442
Click to report rating    5/31/14   5     5     5     5   this clinic was open and ready to help us when we needed them....our regular vet was at home in bed ...... central was ready and whiling ....not sure what i would have done with out them!!! they are the only facility ready and whiling to help at all times. not like out our vet who didn't what to see us! RID: 51872
3/4/14   2     1     1     1   I had taken my dog into this clinic at 10:00 p.m. There was one other person there at the time. I waited for about 45 minutes for a vet to see my dog. She was in a great deal of pain and one of her teeth had fallen out. I was in the examining room with the vet and he put a muzzle on my dogs mouth even though she only had a few teeth. They then took x-rays. They thought it might be neck and leg pain but nothing showed up on the x-ray. They did notice that she had infection in her mouth so $450.00 dollars later I ended up leaving. The next day I could not administer any meds due to a lot of pain. I then took her back to the cinic and she stayed overnight so he could get pain meds into her. Another $1300. later and still no diagnosis. When I took to my own vet they said she needed dental surgery. Central never once checked her ears and mouth! Both vets that examined her DID NOT. When questioned about this they lied and said they had, with a muzzle, not Will never go there!!!! RID: 50307
Click to report rating    11/28/13   4     4     3     1   Unfortunately my regular vet has to send me here for any tests or x-rays. The staff member who took my cat was very nice but I do find it expensive. RID: 48488
Click to report rating    11/2/13   5     5     1     1   The staff at the counter were very nice , the prices were high and the wait time was very long..i do appreciate the fact that there is a vet hospital but I would have appreciated having been told that along with their original quote there are also other options .. I was stunned by the quote that was presented to me and only after my great hesitation and questioning about another option was it made available .. I got the same kind of feeling when I bring my car into a mechanic shop or dentist for that matter, not really sure if they are being totally honest?! RID: 48018
Click to report rating    7/9/13   3     3     3     1   I brought my dog here after she was injured in a vehicle accident. I am experienced in cleaning, dressing and caring for superficial wounds I brought her in to get her some pain meds and verify that there were no internal injuries. They examined her and I insisted she be brought to me as soon as the vet was done. She came back and the vet verified all her wounds were external. She then got an tech to write up a quote for me. They wanted another $800 on top of the $200 I already owed them. When I asked why they said it was to clean the wound and they were going to put her under to do it. I told them that their fee was ridiculous and that if they would prescribe some pain meds I would clean her up and be bringing her to my own vet. Their response was to call the SPCA on me! Claiming that I was refusing to have my pet treated at all because I refused to pay an outrageous amount for some thing that I managed in 20 minutes and my vet even said he couldnt have done any better. Greedy vet. RID: 43571
Click to report rating    8/5/12   5     5     5     4   My dog collapsed in pain and I thought she was having a stroke or heart attack. I rushed her here and a very nice staff member helped us into the clinic, and then took her into the back. It's true that she was in the back a long time, but they let me wait in a room, and the vet (Dr. Haven) and staff were all very caring and highly competent. The prices were higher than a regular vet ($110 for the exam, $200 for blood panel) but the good thing was that x-ray results were immediately available, so a diagnosis could be made right away. They prepared an estimate for her to stay overnight which was very high, but I explained that I couldn't afford for her to stay over, and as it turned out, her condition did not require it after all. Another very nice staff member said she stayed with my dog the whole time she was in the back. I thought that for an emergency, this level of care was warranted, and I appreciate everything they did and would recommend this hospital and Dr. Haven. RID: 36283

2/23/12   3     3     1     1   Its all about the money. Because its the only emergency hospital in town you are at their mercy. Each time I had to go I felt very uncomfortable and when they take your pet away from you and won't let you attend is what makes it worse. There is one very good doctor who works there (there may be more but I know only him) who worked at another clinic in town. Too bad he left there. RID: 32452
Click to report rating    1/4/12   5     4     4     5   I have been going to this hospital for over 32 years and I feel we are lucky in Victoria to have such a fantastic vet hospital with a full staff and real experts available for our pets. My own veterinarian is associated with this hospital and my pets are treated extremely well and kindly with expert care. I, also, am treated very well by the staff and the veterinarians. I wouldn't ever go to a veterinarian who isn't part of this modern medical facility. All veterinary care is expensive these days, but when we love our pets, we want the very best. That is what this hospital gives. Not many cities have access to this type of excellent medical care. Great veterinarians here with love for our pets. Can't ask for better than that. My pets say thank you. RID: 30276
3/9/10   1     1     1     1   My regular Vet, Dr. Hettle from Fairfield Clinic used Central for my puppy's possible spaying but since my pup had injured her leg the day before the spay I said they could have a look at it first. Well they didn't spay her, but took 4, yes FOUR x-rays of BOTH her injured and fine leg (she is a very small puppy and did not need FOUR films to cover her area!!). I didn't hear back from them all day so I called and was given a wrong vet, then told she had been ready to be picked up hours before!! I was charged almost $400 just for the leg exam, sedation and FOUR x-rays and sent home with a puppy (who was now walking on the hurt leg) and no one told me what was wrong! I had to call several times the next day until he finally admitted that he couldn't find anything wrong, it was probably a 'sprain'!!! Oh, & Central forgot to charge me for her after care medicine so Fairfield sent me a bill for it. There is no record of Central giving it to me, so as if I'm going to pay for that, too!! RID: 16961
