Wow, very poor experience with rude staff and high prices versus any other vet office. They lack the compassion with animals that makes no sense and only recommend the most expensive treatments for you pets. Stay away from this poor experience if you are looking for a good vet.

I have been using The Ritson Vet Clinic for a few years now but never again after today!! There's not enough characters for me to type this all out but long story short my cat was taken into the back room to have her cage cleaned (she pee'd) upon hearing her screaming at the top of her lungs (through a closed door) I requested to be with her & told them they are not examining my cat without me present... Well they didn't like that so I was given nothing but attitude from that point on. When the vet came out (Not sure of name. Short lady w/ short hair) she slammed the door to the exam room (claimed it was an accident lol, ok). I told her there was no need for the attitude, it's my right to be with my pet & she responded with "why do you have her in here anyway"? At that point I knew this lady didn't care about my cat so I told her I'll take my services else where & to go F herself! Unprofessional staff & I agree with other posters on this page... These people are only in it for the $$$!

Dr. Carr is the Only Good thing at this clinic...if your lucky to have the one and only good receptionist..good for you for most of them are so rude...you can tell by there actions they are there for the pay check...not the compassion the clinic needs

I am starting to have faith in Ritson Vet Clinic again. I have not seen two of the receptionists that are very rude in my past visits. I was debating switching vets because how they treated us so rudely. I cannot believe the owner of the clinic has not seen this and kept these people there to serve there clients. I am happy with the vets that is what has kept me coming. I hope the receptionists they have that I have seen stay, they are nice!

Dr Hoogers is awesome . I've taken my Golden there since I moved to the area. Myself and Willie my Golden would like to thank Dr. Hoogers and his staff. Always been good to us. Even in difficult and stressful times . I am very happy with them.

The ony thing good about this clinic is Dr. Carr. She was very open and honest when our cat got a urinary blockage. She tried her best to save him. When my husband called to say we had to put him down the receptionist thought he was another man trying to put a perfectly healthy cat down. She was very rude and judgemental. My husband and I were already devastated, and she made him feel like we were killing our cat :(. We are not sure if we can face this clinic again. There have been other times where I have called and the receptionist has been very rude and snappy. She definitely is not suited to work in the compssionate, friendly world of animal care.

My family and I have been bringing our pets to Ritson for at least 9 years now. I have never had a complaint about the treatment my animals have received, and the vets have always been very honest. I have had a few of there vets, and the are all sincere and passionate, along with the assistants and techs. They did not push anything on me. My dog had a UTI after her spay and they booked me in withing 20 minutes, on top of that, they did not charge me for the visit! My only complaint is about a couple of the receptionists, they are miserable and rude. I have witnessed them act rude to a number of clients, and they rarely acknowledge my dog.

Our family has been going to the clinic with our 2 cats and our dog for many years. The care and concern shown by the veterinarians and support staff has been rate. Having tried 2 other pet hospitals before going here we truly can truly appreciate the quality service our pets receive. The clinic is immaculate and the vet's are very caring.

They take advantage of people's emotions and vunerability and gouge, similar to lawyers. Never go to this clinic. Charged my friend an ADDITIONAL $67.00 to have her cat put to sleep because "she had not been to the clinic for a long time"???? What is that all about

My family was one of the first when Peter Hoggers first opened. At the beginning he was excellent in every way. Things really changed as he established his practice. The final straw when he suggested I put my cat down. When I arrived at the office he had already left. When the other vet came in to do the procedure, she told me that this cat did not look ready to die and suggested I take him to Toronto, to the VEC and arranged an appointment for him the next day. When seen the next day by internal medicine, my boy had been totally mismanaged and was no where near dieing. Thank god for the female vet.

We have been taking our family pets to Ritson Veterinary Clinic for over 10+ yrs & have received nothing but the finest care. The vets are caring, knowledgeable and warm - the VERY BEST! They truly care and go above and beyond, while being very affordable compared to most clinics. As well as regular check-ups, we've had our cat declawed & neutered, & our dog spayed -without any complications. They have always been very clear on the recovery instructions and we have followed these diligently, appreciating their careful recovery guidelines. We love and adore our pets and know they are in AMAZING hands there. You can tell they genuinely love animals! During our last visit, while sitting in the waiting area I was brought to tears when I watched one of the receptionists come over, hug and console gently a pet owner. The lady soon left and it was obvious that she felt great comfort. Our pets are part of our family and we would never take them anywhere else! Thanks for the great care!!

We had our Wheaton Terrier out for a walk and when we got home, we noticed that she was frothing terribly at the mouth. I phoned some clinics close by our house and had no luck. My last call was to the Ritson Veterinary Clinic. The vet there said he would stay and wait for us. We were given exceptional care. The staff was friendly and helped to make me feel at ease while the doctor examined Molly. I was impressed with the vets easy and calm way with our dog. I was not charged an emergency fee and the doctor stayed very late with her until she was stable. We took her home the next day - happy and healthy. This will be our regular clinic from now on - even though the drive is longer for us.

My puppy went in to get fixed, he developed an infection 2 weeks later so he was put on cephaxelin. When i called to say he had thrown up, they said to continue with the meds, when he dropped dead on our walk they said it wasn't the meds. He was a healthy 10 month old. I wish I had gone with my gut feeling and taken him off them rather than trust the vets, but our pets lives are in their hands. The front desk staff have always been wonderful.

I have been going to this clinic for about 1 year. I will never bring my pets to this clinic again. I brought in my 1 year old pup who had ingested some medication and they refused to treat her as I could not pay upfront but had a family member driving from work to get there to pay. They advised me there was no clinic in Durham that would help me and I would basically have to watch her die if I didn't have money on me right then and there. My pup lied there in the room dying and getting worse by the minute and they did absolutely nothing until it was to late. They spent the first 30 minutes on wikipedia looking up the med she took and they didnt even take down the correct spelling and I gave it to them multiple times! I am completely disgusted with this clinic and how they would let one of thier own patients lie there in pain to die.

We used this clinic for 5 yrs. but no more, we rescued a dog, took her to the clinic since our other dog goes there, they were aware we were taking the new addition to SPCA for spay so they indicated on form to SPCA that our dog had a grade 2 murmur knowing SPCA would not do grade 2, meanwhile they had told me she has a slight murmur but nothing to worry about, they wanted $500. to spay SPCA was charging $100. Well she was done today at another clinic for $300. and l was informed she DOES NOT have a murmur, just goes to show they were just in it for the money. I hate it when people are not truthful, we were just going to have the spay done at SPCA and Ritson would have been retained to do everything else, but l refuse to deal with people who lie, in order to gain financially, so glad l went elsewhere! Now they have lost two dogs as clients and l will warn anyone else looking for a vet to stay away from Ritson! And yes the receptionist can be quite rude.

I have been going to this clinic for over 10 years. I would have to agree that the receptionist can sometimes be rude.. especially over the phone. Other then that we have had no problems with this clinic. Love the vets.. especially Dr. Carr. They do not push tests/medications and I have found them to be very compansionate when we have lost pets due to cancer. The costs are reasonable and the care is great. Just have to get past the receptionist attitude!

They let my dog go without doing extensive tests and asked me to come back the next day. They forced medication on me to buy for him which he did not need. If I gave my pup the meds he could had had an overdose. So I brought my dog to the Animal Hospital and they said he could have died overnight if I did bring him to the hospital. The Vet at Ritson Vet Clinic knows nothing about anything and the hospital was so knowledgable. I immediately transferred my files to the Animal Hospital and want nothing to do with the Ritson Vet Clinic!!!! Never bring your dog to the clinic! Unskilled vets and pushy.

I have been using this vet for 10 years and have only had one bad experience and that was with one of the support staff. When I call to make an appointment for whichever of my dogs, they always ask which vet I would like. Our primary vet has always given sound advice and been very gentle and professional with our dogs. When we have decided, due to our schedule, to book an appointment with one of the other vets we have recieved equally good care. I have nothing but good things to say about the care our dogs have received at this clinic.

I used to take my cats to this clinic to see the original vet that owns the place, they were great...with the cats. i now have 2 large dogs and no cats. they keep switching doctors with my one dog, they act like they are afraid of him and they are very rude with me. my dog is very friendly and is always a really good boy. i brought him in there yesterday because he has an eye infection, the vet was shaking as soon as she came in the room, she wouldn'tt go near him because she was afraid, she accused him of being viscous and later called my mom to tell her that my dog bit her and was no longer welcome there unless we sedate him. my dog does NOT BITE, he is a good dog and he was being very good. the time before i went in with him for his shots, that vet was also afraid of him, she didnt touch him at all, other than to administer the needle, she basically backed into the corner and quivered. i dont understand how you can be a vet and be afraid of dogs. looking for a different vet!

The receptionists are really snappy on the phone as well as when you're at the clinic. I thought maybe it was just me, or they've had a bad day or something. But I spoke to three friends this week who have also used the clinic before and they said the same thing. . . Not impressed.
