Click to report rating    8/28/15   1     3     3     1   I am planning to move back to Hawaii, so took my cats in for rabies booster shots. The clinic: 1)Made up birthdates for the required certificate (which didn't match the birthdates from prior vet)so I had to have them redo them; 2) Were unable to read my pets microchips with their scanner (although the SPCA and my prior vet were able to); 3)"fired me as a patient" when I complained so that I had to get another vet to titre the blood from the rabies shots they gave. One of my cats became seriously ill about a month after receiving the rabies shot. I thought I was going to lose him until I found Capital Cat Clinic. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a vet. Do not take your pets here! The staff were bungling, rude and incredibly uncaring. RID: 58205
Click to report rating    5/20/15   5     5     5     5   We've been patients of Dr. Hettle and his staff for more than 20 years, and even though we now live in Sidney, we still drive to Fairfield to see them. They are wonderful in every way -- helpful, friendly, very detailed and informative, and best of all, very empathetic. Throughout the years, we have had five cats and two dogs, and every one of them has gotten excellent care, including end-of-life care. I especially appreciate that Dr. Hettle is able to act as an advisor in those panicked moments when you don't know what's wrong. I wouldn't trust my pets to anyone else. And his staff are also fabulous - they provide help and assistance by phone, have even dropped medication off at our house when needed. If you are looking for a Victoria vet, this is your best choice. RID: 57073
Click to report rating    10/9/13   2     4     2     1   We have two cats (one now), and I have been a client of Dr. Hettle for several years. He is very nice, and the staff is really friendly, but I must say that they have not risen to the challenge when my cats have had health issues. The routine visits are always very fast and rushed. When my cat fell ill, I spent over $5K of tests (multiple blood work and ultrasounds). In spite of this, they never diagnosed him with anything, and never gave him any medication. The day he died I called to ask if they could come home to put him down (he was in such pain, he couldn't be transported), and they didn't. To me, this is unforgivable. My other cat was diagnosed with kidney problems (thanks to almost $1K of blood work) and then given two medicines, one of which no cat would ever take (a huge pill full of powder). I hesitate to post this, because diagnosing a pet is obviously very difficult, and tests are of course necessary, but I don't feel that this clinic has taken the best care of my cats. RID: 47538

8/20/13   1     1     1     1   I brought my lab in this week with a shore knee. The exact same thing happened to me as the previous comment except they wanted to give him $150 drugs as well. My bill was $450 and the reason for having to take 3 x-rays was because they couldn't get a good view with all the inflammation. Funny story, my dad is the head of diagnostic imagining for interior health and said swelling should have nothing to do with the xrays. I am done with fairfax, this is the second big bill I have had from them with no results. The part that angers me is the vet lied to my face about the xrays. Zero trust and full on drug pushers. No follow up at all. I had to call in to ask why my dog was sore. I just needed someone to explain to me what they did and why he would be sore. That did no happen RID: 46395
Click to report rating    2/20/13   5     4     5     5   My cats have been patients here for over 10 years and I can't recommend Dr. Hettle highly enough. We have been through many health issues, and our needs have always been met kindly and compassionately. Dr. Hettle takes a very practical approach to veterinary medicine and it is clear that he truly cares for the animals he treats. RID: 40581
2/12/13   3     3     1     1   Dr Hettle he is nice enough, but didn't have a clue what was wrong with my dog, even recommended really expensive meds that were toxic (ie. if you are pregnant or want to become pregnant DO NOT handle these meds) and even though we did try the meds at first the warning labels on the box said "DO NOT BREAK THE CAPSULES" but he told us to do just that, thank goodness we read the labels and told him no thank you. Anyhow after spending over $5k we were sent to the Vancouver vet specialist and they finally figured out what was wrong with our dog. Total bill in the end $8k over 2 months of my dog being in torturous pain, we almost thought about putting him down. I wonder if the vet would have done this many tests if we had pet insurance?? And poor follow up overall, we had to call in to remind them to order prescriptions etc. RID: 40350

Click to report rating    6/14/11   5     5     5     5   My 18 year old cat and I moved to Victoria in October of 2010. Now 19, Cosmo went to see Dr. Hettle for the first time this morning. The staff were professional, attentive and genuinely interested. The facilities were well kept and inviting. Most important to Cosmo and I was Dr.Hettle himself. He was gentle, thorough and took the time to explain things to me honestly. we have found our B.C. Vet! RID: 25607
Click to report rating    3/9/10   1     2     2     1   My regular Vet, Dr. Hettle from Fairfield Clinic used Central Hosp. for my puppy's possible spaying but since my pup had injured her leg the day before the spay I said they could have a look at it first. Well they didn't spay her, but took 4, yes FOUR x-rays of BOTH her injured &fine leg (she is a very small puppy and did not need FOUR films to cover her area!!). I didn't hear back from them all day so I called and was given a wrong vet, then told she had been ready to be picked up hours before!! I was charged almost $400 just for the leg exam, sedation and FOUR x-rays and sent home with a puppy (who was now walking on the hurt leg) and no one told me what was wrong! I had to call several times the next day until he finally admitted that he couldn't find anything wrong, it was probably a 'sprain'!!! Oh, & Central forgot to charge me for her after care medicine so Fairfield sent me a bill for it. There is no record of Central giving it to me, so as if I'm going to pay for that, too!! RID: 16962
