Click to report rating    7/25/15   5     5     5     5   I have been going to Royal City for close to twenty years. The staff at Royal City, to a person, is wonderful--caring and compassionate. The veterinary technicians are highly trained, and provide extraordinary care. Dr. Drewry is an ace vet who has a gift for catching problems in their early stages, when they can be managed. My oldest cat, who is nearly twenty, was diagnosed by Dr. Drewry in the early stages of kidney disease seven or eight years ago. His condition has not declined significantly in that time, all thanks to Dr. Drewry and her team providing excellent and manageable treatment options. I value the rapport which I have with the clinical team at Royal City. I can talk easily with them, raise concerns and get clear, thoughtful responses. We are partners in the care of my three cats. The care my cats get at Royal City is fabulous. Thank you, to all the staff, clinicians and front of desk people: you are great! RID: 57813
Click to report rating    7/24/15   5     5     5     5   We have been clients of RCAH for 9 years. My dog has had her fair share of ailments and Dr Drewry and her team have always taken excellent care of us (both me and my dog!) One visit when I was extremely emotional they consoled me and phoned the next day to see how we were doing!!! Medications are always clearly explained and as an example if dosage is to be decreased gradually they always call to remind me of the change in amount. If a medical issue is discovered it is explained in detail and if there are options available for treatment they are always discussed and handouts are always given so you can read up on your own. I would never hesitate to call them or drop in if I had a question even if I had already been there the same day!! Clients are always welcome anytime and I feel a sense of family there. I have recommended RCAH to my friends and would never even think of going to another clinic. Exceptional clinic exceptional team! RID: 57804
Click to report rating    7/24/15   5     5     5     5   I have been going to this clinic for almost 10 years and am quite happy with the service, quality of care and the lovely staff. They have always made me and my dogs feel welcome and have been thorough in examining my pets. My appointments have always been punctual, except when there was an emergency. Explanations are forthcoming with handouts to take home to read. They have welcomed my questions or concerns and are more than willing to return my calls. The reception staff are happy to see us and 'fuss' over my dog upon arrival. When it was time to pay, the reception staff explained everything in detail on the invoice. I would highly recommend this hospital. RID: 57802
Click to report rating    5/26/15   1     3     4     1   When my original vet retired, I went to these guys. Big mistake. They changed my dog's thyroid medicine, telling me her usual pill was on 'backorder'. I just knew the new pills (same price) were a cheaper version - no manufacturer's label. My dog just didn't do as well on them, and I kept asking if her original pills were available, I never got a straight answer. My dog's hair thinned out and she became more lethargic. And why is the receptionist allowed to dispense and advise on medication???? MONTHS later, after my third or fourth request about my dog's 'backordered' medication, I still could not get an answer. Big fight, when I questioned their competence. I was asked to find another vet. I did so, and the new vet immediately put my dog back on her original medication. It was NOT on backorder. Guess what? Her hair thickened out, and her energy returned, I would never recommend Royal City Animal Hospital to anyone. They are intimidating, over priced and rude. RID: 57160
Click to report rating    3/19/15   1     1     1     1   Horrible clinic! Staff are rude, animals are just $ to them-if you board your dog there they do not get out for a decent walk but just a short 2 min walk around to back of building(if they get out at all!!). Since I worked there for a short 2 months I witnessed a cat die in their care as no one was monitoring it and they had no idea when the cat perished. DO NOT GO THERE!!! RID: 56327
5/17/13   1     4     3     1   Our 4 y/o cat appeared to have had a stoke. Called after hours line and told to wait til next day. Next day was yelled at for waiting so long with a cat that sick and that she would probably die! Told she ate poison in our house but had a 14 month old toddler at home so unsure how this was possible. She was in full kidney failure, which they fixed to the tune of $2000. We were happy to pay as long as she was going to live. Then she started having seizures. They wanted to do very $$ MRI but cat was still seizing and they couldn't stop them. When we decided to euthanize her they gave us grief. Total bill $4000!! We took our other cat to another vet after that! Terrible guilt ridden experience. Never again. RID: 42564
Click to report rating    2/27/13   5     5     4     1   I'll start with the good news: The clinic itself is clean and inviting, the staff carry themselves in a courteous and friendly manner, and both the doctor and nurse appear very knowledgeable. However, in the two years that I've been a client, there's been a nasty trend of upricing, usually fueled by fear and guilt. I've payed for countless tests and samples to be taken, despite my pet's clean bill of health. A vet should not pressure pet owners with hypotheticals like: "If the test comes back positive, we can intervene. But if you don't take the test, the animal might get ill and die". Mind you, all this is delivered with a concerned smile, inducing a sense of shame if the warning is not heeded. It all fuels the assumption that Royal City is aware that people will often spend beyond their means when a pet's health is at stake, and they seem to prey on that. RID: 40737
Click to report rating    2/9/13   1     4     4     1   We had a very bad experience with this vet. They did some blood work on our sick dog and said that it looked like he had cushings disease, but we had better do an ultrasound and other tests to rule out anything else. We took the dog's blood work to another vet for a second opinion and they said that not only was the blood work highly indicative of cushings, but that the dog was essentially the poster dog for the disease. Since the second vet was in TO, we took our dog back to Royal City to pursue treatment. The quote for the treatment was astronomically expensive. The vet in Toronto offered an extremely affordable and effective treatment plan that was way cheaper and easier on the dog. I find it unfortunate that you can't tell with vets whether they are offering the best treatment or trying to milk as much money as possible out of you. When our dog tore his ACL months later Royal City suggested surgery. Out TO vet said it was unsafe and unhelpful to do ACL surgery on such an old dog. RID: 40291
Click to report rating    5/7/12   5     5     5     5   All staff patient, very competent, knowledgeable, take time to explain - with value added humour and a sense of fun. Dr Drewry is a fine surgeon having removed a small tumor from r dog's eye with skill of plastic surgeon, also she is an excellent diagnostician picking up signs of low thyroid in r older dog, turning her back into a peppy puppy when we hadn't even realized there was anything wrong. Thanks to Greg for helpful education bites u add, Martha with the best phone voice and sense of humour, Lisa for your love of animals, Lisa B, for patience and keeping us organizted and Dr. Drewry, we have been your fans for more than 20 years. Particularly meaningful and touching was how you and staff handled the situation when we had to euthanize 2 of r beloved dogs. Thanks we r 100% pleased! RID: 34056

1/26/11   3     5     5     5   I had to have my guinea pig euthanized the other day. In a time which was incredibly hard for me, the staff at the hospital were very understanding. I was given time to make decisions and say good bye without someone peering over my shoulder. My only complaint was that in order to examine my guinea pig, she was taken from the room and away from me twice. If those examinations could have been done in the room I would have been a lot more content. RID: 22390
