Dog had valley fever. He told us to rush to Sonora. As we are leaving our vet told us Austin would likely not survive long enough to get there. Well he did. He was a horrible shape. Thank God Gilsen was on staff that night. Austin ended up spending 4 nights in the ICU before coming home. After several follow up visits, $100s added vet bills and meds, Austin was cured. We had another 4 years with him before he passed at 14yrs. We are convinced Gilson saved our dog, no doubt. I will says he lacks great bedside manner, but we would spend all that money again. Austin's bud, Simone, now has vestibular disease. It's taken me weeks to track down Gilson, as he has moved offices. Vestibular has no known cure or cause but I will roll the dice on GIlson's analysis and recommendations. I am not happy with current treatment from our vet, which is nothing more than throwing darts in the dark. Simone has had several relapses. IF it's time, it's time. I'll let ya know if he pulls off another miracle.

I brought my cat here last month and Sonora saved her life!! Dr. Gilson and Dr. Schnier are the best and went above and beyond to save our precious girl. Serena was given a 25%-30% chance by my regular vet and even he said the folks at Sonora really pulled off a miracle. They were compassionate, intelligent and took the time to explain all of the various options to me. It most certainly was not about the money - they truly cared about helping my baby who wouldn't be here today if not for them. Our funds were limited but Sonora worked with us and never pressured us. They knew how special Serena was. My husband and I don't have human children but Serena and Calvin are 100% our kids. Our friends joke that they live better than most humans! I will be forever grateful for the compassionate and professional care provided by Sonora. TRUE LIFESAVERS!!!

Killed our cat. Gilson has a big reputation but what is truly big about him is his ego. Arrogant and quick to go for the knife and the $$$. Did a very painful procedure on our by-then dying cat without our consent. Could have probably initially cured the cat with non-invasive measures we found out about later. The minute Gilson cut him open, he was a goner. This place is bad news. Must to avoid. Don't be fooled by that big reputation!

At Sonora, the animals always come first. Despite what the crazy person had to say, I recommend you visit with the doctors and staff and you will find them to be quite competent, compassionate, and caring. Don't let the rantings of a madman deter you. Sonora and their staff REALLY do care about their patients and my dog is living proof!!!

SONORA IS A MUST TO AVOID. Gilson performed needless, overly aggressive surgery that led to the death of our cat. He's a surgeon so his first instinct is to cut, cut, cut. He also lied to us about what he was doing and did not obtain our consent. He racked up a bill and the first we saw it was after our cat was dead. He then sued us claiming we owed him the money which we never consented to. Gilson has a big reputation as a hotshot vet-- and an ego to match-- but don't work with him. There are other vets in town even for the "tough cases." THIS GUY IS A MUST_TO_AVOID!!

I could not have gone through what I did with my Dogue in any other facility. Dr Gilson and staff are knowledgeable and amazingly compassionate. They kept me abreast of my Bordeaux' condition via phone and in person. I visited a lot and they had no problem with that.

I had two very good experiences with the staff and Dr. Lillian Rizzo at Sonoran. Both of my Pug dogs experienced emergencies, one of which required surgery. It was performed just in time to save his paw digits and he is fully back to 'good as new'. I highly recommend Dr. Rizzo and the whole staff at Sonoran.

Sonora Veterinary Specialists misled us and/or did not do due diligence when they performed surgery on our Boxer. They performed surgery to remove a cancerous tumor (purely palliative), but our dog died 7 days later from the spread of the cancer to his lungs. Now, we were not expecting a cure, nor were we promised one. The main point is that they must have known how advanced the cancer was and yet they were more than willing to charge us a small fortune to go ahead with unnecessary surgery (the dog was never in any pain or discomfort from the primary tumor). I believe this was a case where they knew how dire the situation was, and yet went ahead with the operation just to line their pockets. I could never recommend this vet clinic to anyone based on our experience.
